St. Andrew the Apostle
Red
He was born in Bethsaida, in Galilee, and worked as a fisherman.
He became one of the first to follow Jesus and introduced his brother, Simon Peter, to him. He became patron saint of Scotland because according to legend some of his bones were brought and buried at the place where the town of St Andrew’s now stands.
Entrance Antiphon : Cf. Mt 4: 18-19
Beside the Sea of Galilee, the Lord saw two brothers, Peter and Andrew, and he said to them: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Collect
We humbly implore your majesty, O Lord, that, just as the blessed Apostle, Andrew, was, for your Church, a preacher and pastor, so he may be for us a constant intercessor before you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First Reading : Romans 10 : 9-18
If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. By believing from the heart you are made righteous; by confessing with your lips you are saved. When Scripture says: those who believe in him will have no cause for shame, it makes no distinction between Jew and Greek: all belong to the same Lord, who is rich enough however many ask his help, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But they will not ask his help unless they believe in him, and they will not believe in him unless they have heard of him, and they will not hear of him unless they get a preacher, and they will never have a preacher unless one is sent, but as Scripture says: The footsteps of those who bring Good News are a welcome sound. Not everyone, of course, listens to the Good News. As Isaiah says: Lord, how many believed what we proclaimed? So faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached comes from the word of Christ. Let me put the question: is it possible that they did not hear? Indeed they did; in the words of the psalm, their voice has gone out through all the earth, and their message to the ends of the world.

Prayer after Communion
May communion in your Sacrament strengthen us, O Lord, so that by the example of the blessed Apostle, Andrew, we, who carry in our body the Death of Christ, may merit to live with him in glory. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Meditation
The Catholic Church is built on 12 pillars which are the apostles. From generation to generation, the Word of God is passed on, so that the sons and daughters of God may receive light. St. Paul reminds us in the first reading that if you confess from your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He rose from the dead, then you will be saved. And believing in Jesus means living by the commandments that he taught us. It also implies bearing witness to the love of Christ by being a living Bible for others. Through us, this word of life must be transmitted to future generations, as it was transmitted through the apostle Andrew we are celebrating today. Abandoning their boat, he set out to follow Christ. We are also invited to abandon everything that takes us away from Christ and to follow him.

L’histoire de saint Saturnin a partie liée avec celle de Datif, Félix, Marie, Thélice, Ampèle, Emérite, Rogatien, Victoire, Hilarion et bien d’autres encore. Martyrs à Carthage pendant qu’ils célébraient les saints mystères, quelques uns parmi eux furent mis à mort après de cruelles tortures ; d’autres furent jetés en prison et moururent sous les coups, la faim, la pesanteur des chaines et l’insalubrité des lieux.

1ère lecture : Is 2, 1-5
Le prophète Isaïe a reçu cette révélation au sujet de Juda et de Jérusalem : Il arrivera dans l’avenir que la montagne du temple du Seigneur sera placée à la tête des montagnes et dominera les collines. Toutes les nations afflueront vers elle, des peuples nombreux se mettront en marche, et ils diront: « Venez, montons à la montagne du Seigneur, au temple du Dieu de Jacob. Méditation
La puissance du Christ n’a pas de limites. Même ses ennemis et les non juifs vont vers lui pour chercher les solutions à leurs problèmes. Le fait le plus important dans cette péricope de l’évangile est ce centurion qui quitte son trône d’autorité et s’humilie devant le Christ afin qu’il guérisse son serviteur. Cette attitude du centurion nous amène à réfléchir sur les rapports que nous entretenons avec notre entourage. Quel qu’en soit notre rang social nous devons tourner notre regard sur nos frères et sœurs. Nous ne devons pas fermer nos oreilles aux cris de l’orphelin(e)s. Nous ne devons pas fermer notre cœur à la misère des autres. Si le Seigneur nous a bénis c’est pour que nous soyons une bénédiction pour les autres.

Bernard Francis de Hoyos (1711-1735) was born in Torrelobatón, Spain. He entered the Jesuit novitiate at Villagarcia in 1726 and, just three months later, had his first mystical experience. Then, in early May 1733, during his theology studies, he received his decisive mission from Christ: “I wish for you to spread the devotion to my Sacred Heart throughout all of Spain.” Days later he obtained the “Great Promise”: “I will reign in Spain with more veneration than in other places.” Through his efforts, devotion to the Sacred Heart became popular throughout Spain. He is acclaimed as the first apostle of the Sacred Heart in Spain.

Meditation The power of Christ has no limits. Even come to his enemies and non-Jews cometo him to seek solutions to their problems. The most important fact in the Gospel is that the centurion leaves his throne of authority and humbles himself before Christ to ask him to heal his servant. This attitude leads us to reflect on our relations with those around us. Whatever our social status, we must turn our gaze to our brothers and sisters. Méditation
La première lecture nous annonce la venue du Seigneur issue de la lignée de David. C’est le Seigneur de justice et son règne n’aura pas de fin. Son règne est un règne de paix et d’amour. C’est pour cela que dans la deuxième lecture Saint Paul implore la grâce de l’amour entre les habitants de Thessalonique. A la venue du Christ sauf ceux et celles qui vivent dans l’amour hériterons de son royaume. Dans Marc 13,26 Jésus nous assure que son retour sera l’instauration permanente de la gloire de Dieu. Par-là toutes les douleurs et toutes souffrances cesseront. Gardons notre foi vive tout en fixant nos regards sur la croix du Christ, et il s’occupera toujours de nous.

Envahi par le désir de mener une vie contemplative, il s’enferma dans une petite cellule sur les bords de la Seine. Il eut de nombreux disciples dont Saint Cloud. Il fut enterré au lieu même de son ermitage qui est devenu une paroisse parisienne.

Le Seigneur annonce la paix pour son peuple et ses fidèles, et pour ceux qui reviennent vers lui.
Prière d’ouverture
Réveille, Seigneur, le courage de tes fidèles : Qu’ils soient plus ardents à profiter de tes grâces, pour obtenir de toi de plus puissants secours. Par Jésus
Première lecture : Dn 7, 15-27
Moi, Daniel, j’avais l’esprit angoissé, car les visions que j’avais me bouleversaient. Je m’approchai de l’un de ceux qui entouraient le Trône, et je l’interrogeai sur la vérité de tout cela. Il me répondit et me révéla l’interprétation : « Ces bêtes énormes, au nombre de quatre, ce sont quatre rois qui surgiront de la terre. Mais ce sont les saints du Très-Haut qui recevront la royauté et la posséderont pour toute l’éternité. » Puis je l’interrogeai sur la quatrième bête, qui était différente de toutes les autres, cette bête terriblement puissante, avec ses dents de fer et ses griffes de bronze, qui dévorait, déchiquetait et piétinait tout ce qui restait. Je l’interrogeai sur les dix cornes de sa tête, et sur cette corne qui lui avait poussé en faisant tomber les trois autres devant elle – cette corne qui avait des yeux, et une bouche qui tenait des propos délirants – cette corne qui était plus imposante que les autres. Je l’avais vue faire la guerre aux saints et l’emporter sur eux, jusqu’à la venue du Vieillard qui avait prononcé le jugement en faveur des saints du Très-Haut, et le temps était arrivé où les saints avaient pris possession de la royauté. À ces questions, il me fut répondu : « La quatrième bête, c’est un quatrième royaume sur la terre, qui sera différent de tous les royaumes. Il dévorera toute la terre, la piétinera et l’écrasera. Les dix cornes, ce sont dix rois qui surgiront de ce royaume-là. Un autre roi surgira ensuite ; il sera différent des précédents, et il renversera trois rois. Il prononcera des paroles hostiles au Très-Haut, il persécutera les saints du Très-Haut, et il entreprendra de changer la date des fêtes et la Loi. Les saints seront livrés à son pouvoir pendant un temps, des temps, et la moitié d’un temps. Puis le tribunal siégera, et la domination sera enlevée à ce royaume, qui sera détruit et totalement anéanti. La royauté, la domination et la puissance de tous les royaumes de la terre, sont données au peuple des saints du Très-Haut. Méditation
La fin des temps est une réalité indiscutable bien que certains essaient de se cacher dans leur style de vie immonde (beuveries, ivresses etc.) niant cette réalité divine, cela ne change rien au fait que le ils de l’homme reviendra dans sa gloire pour juger les vivants et les morts. Dans l’évangile Jésus nous rappelle de rester éveiller et en prière car ce jour arrivera à l’improviste. Par conséquent nous sommes appelés à vivre et témoigner de notre vie chrétienne au jour le jour. C’est également une invitation de fréquenter les sacrements que le christ nous a légué par le biais de son Église. En le faisant « vous avez la force d’échapper à tout ce qui doit arriver et de vous tenir devant le Fils de l’homme. »

He is also known as Vergilius of Salzburg. He was born of a noble family and educated in the monastery at Iona. In 745 he left Ireland on pilgrimage. He became Abbot of St Peter’s at Salzburg. He engaged in controversy with St Boniface, but on Boniface’s martyrdom he became his successor as Bishop of Salzburg in 767.

First reading: Daniel 7:15-27
I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me. So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him to tell me the truth about all this. And in reply he revealed to me what these things meant. ‘These four great beasts are four kings who will rise from the earth. Those who are granted sovereignty are the saints of the Most High, and the kingdom will be theirs for ever, for ever and ever.’ Then I asked to know the truth about the fourth beast, different from all the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth and bronze claws, eating, crushing and trampling underfoot what remained; and the truth about the ten horns on its head – and why the other horn sprouted and the three original horns fell, and why this horn had eyes and a mouth that was full of boasts, and why it made a greater show than the other horns. This was the horn I had watched making war on the saints and proving the stronger, until the coming of the one of great age who gave judgement in favour of the saints of the Most High, when the time came for the saints to take over the kingdom. This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from all other kingdoms. It will devour the whole earth, trample it underfoot and crush it. As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will be different from the previous ones and will bring down three kings; he is going to speak words against the Most High, and harass the saints of the Most High. He will consider changing seasons and the Law, and the saints will be put into his power for a time, two times, and half a time. But a court will be held and his power will be stripped from him, consumed, and utterly destroyed. And sovereignty and kingship, and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty and every empire will serve and obey him.’

Meditation
The end times are an indisputable reality, although some try to deny this divine reality by hiding in a filthy lifestyles. The son of man will return in his glory to judge the living and the dead. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us to remain awake in prayer, for this day will come unexpectedly. We are called to live and bear witness to our Christian life daily. We are also invited to frequent the sacraments that Christ bequeathed to us through his Church. By so doing, we will have the “strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to stand with confidence before the Son of Man.”

Première lecture : Daniel 7, 2-14
Daniel prit la parole et dit : « Au cours de la nuit, dans ma vision, je regardais. Les quatre vents du ciel soulevaient la grande mer. Quatre bêtes énormes sortirent de la mer, chacune différente des autres. La première ressemblait à un lion, et elle avait des ailes d’aigle. Tandis que je la regardais, ses ailes lui furent arrachées, et elle fut soulevée de terre et dressée sur ses pieds, comme un homme, et un cœur d’homme lui fut donné. La deuxième bête ressemblait à un ours ; elle était à moitié debout, et elle avait trois côtes d’animal dans la gueule, entre les dents. On lui dit : “Lève-toi, dévore beaucoup de viande !” Je continuais à regarder :je vis une autre bête, qui ressemblait à une panthère; et elle avait quatre ailes d’oiseau sur le dos ;elle avait aussi quatre têtes. La domination lui fut donnée. Puis, au cours de la nuit, je regardais encore; je vis une quatrième bête, terrible, effrayante, extraordinairement puissante ; elle avait des dents de fer énormes ; elle dévorait, déchiquetait et piétinait tout ce qui restait. Elle était différente des trois autres bêtes, et elle avait dix cornes. Comme je considérais ces cornes, il en poussa une autre, plus petite, au milieu ; trois des premières cornes furent arrachées devant celle-ci. Et cette corne avait des yeux comme des yeux d’homme, et une bouche qui tenait des propos délirants. Je continuai à regarder : des trônes furent disposés, et un Vieillard prit place ; son habit était blanc comme la neige, et les cheveux de sa tête, comme de la laine immaculée ; son trône était fait de flammes de feu, avec des roues de feu ardent. Un fleuve de feu coulait, qui jaillissait devant lui. Des milliers de milliers le servaient, des myriades de myriades se tenaient devant lui. Le tribunal prit place et l’on ouvrit des livres. Je regardais, j’entendais les propos délirants que vomissait la corne. Je regardais, et la bête fut tuée, son cadavre fut jeté au feu. Quant aux autres bêtes, la domination leur fut retirée, mais une prolongation de vie leur fut donnée, pour une période et un temps déterminés. Je regardais, au cours des visions de la nuit, et je voyais venir, avec les nuées du ciel, comme un Fils d’homme ; il parvint jusqu’au Vieillard, et on le fit avancer devant lui. Et il lui fut donné domination, gloire et royauté ; tous les peuples, toutes les nations et les gens de toutes langues le servirent. Sa domination est une domination éternelle, qui ne passera pas et sa royauté, une royauté qui ne sera pas détruite. »

Méditation
Psaume 18 « tes paroles Seigneur sont esprit et elles sont vives. » C’est pour cette raison que Pierre disait “à qui irions-nous ? tu as les paroles de la vie éternelle (Jean 6, 68). ’’ La parole de Dieu est le Fils qui s’est fait chair (Jean 1,14) et par qui tout fut créé. De ce fait, pour connaitre Dieu, nous devons lire et méditer constamment sa parole; le faire est une marque d’amour pour le Christ qui dit : « Si quelqu’un m’aime il gardera ma parole et mon Père l’aimera et nous viendrons à lui et nous ferons notre demeure chez lui (Jean 14,23).» Par conséquent, c’est dans la parole de Dieu que nous trouvons et donnons un sens à notre vie. Saint Jérôme ne dira-t-il pas que l’ignorance des écritures est ignorance du Christ?

Leonard was born in Porto Maurizio in 1676. He joined the Franciscan order and for forty-seven years preached, wrote letters and sermons, and travelled the whole length of Italy. The popularity of the Stations of the Cross is much due to the impetus he gave to the devotion. He died at Rome in 1751.

The first was like a lion with eagle’s wings; and as I looked its wings were torn off, and it was lifted from the ground and set standing on its feet like a man; and it was given a human heart. The second beast I saw was different, like a bear, raised up on one of its sides, with three ribs in its mouth, between its teeth. “Up!” came the command “Eat quantities of flesh!” After this I looked, and saw another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird’s wings on its flanks; it had four heads, and power was given to it. Next I saw another vision in the visions of the night: I saw a fourth beast, fearful, terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate, crushed and trampled underfoot what remained. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns. While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of the original horns were pulled out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and a mouth that was full of boasts. As I watched: Thrones were set in place and one of great age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. A court was held and the books were opened. The great things the horn was saying were still ringing in my ears, and as I watched, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames. The other beasts were deprived of their power, but received a lease of life for a season and a time. I gazed into the visions of the night. And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and men of all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire ever be destroyed.

Meditation As we draw near to the end of the year, our readings speak of signs. In the Gospel, the fig tree is a sign of the nearness of the “Kingdom of God.” We are encouraged to be aware of and alert to the signs of the times, the signs of the presence of God. However, most people are so worried about the end times. Because of this, many prophets have arisen. Some have given specific dates. Around the millennium year 2000, there were many speculations. The more authoritarian and demanding a false messiah is, the more satisfying he is to people. And if his proposed solutions are effective in the social or political realm, he will be even more enticing. The disciples too were worried about predictions about the end. As Christians, we must take to heart the consoling messages of Christ about the end time. We must be active in waiting. He has given us hope. Instead of living in fear, we must remember that Jesus promises that not one hair of our head will be harmed.

En ces jours- là, les hommes qui avaient comploté contre Daniel se précipitèrent et le surprirent en train de prier et de supplier en présence de son Dieu. Ils allèrent trouver le roi et lui dirent : « N’as-tu pas fait mettre par écrit cette interdiction : Tout homme qui, dans les trente jours à venir, adressera une prière à un dieu ou à un homme autre que le roi, sera jeté dans la fosse aux lions ? » Le roi répondit : « Oui, c’est la décision que j’ai prise. Et, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, elle est irrévocable. » Ils dirent alors au roi : « Daniel, un des déportés de Juda, ne tient compte ni de toi, ni de ton interdiction, ô roi ; trois fois par jour, il fait sa prière. » En apprenant cela, le roi fut très contrarié et se préoccupa de sauver Daniel. Jusqu’au coucher du soleil, il chercha comment le soustraire à la mort. Les mêmes hommes revinrent à la charge auprès du roi : « N’oublie pas, ô roi, que, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, toute interdiction, tout décret porté par le roi est irrévocable.» Alors le roi ordonna d’emmener Daniel, et on le jeta dans la fosse aux lions. Il dit à Daniel : « Ton Dieu, que tu sers avec tant de constance, c’est lui qui te délivrera!» On apporta une plaque de pierre, on la plaça sur l’ouverture de la fosse; le roi la scella avec le cachet de son anneau et celui des grands du royaume, pour que la condamnation de Daniel fût irrévocable. Puis le roi rentra dans son palais ; il passa la nuit sans manger ni boire, il ne fit venir aucune concubine, il ne put trouver le sommeil. Il se leva dès l’aube, au petit jour, et se rendit en hâte à la fosse aux lions. Arrivé près de la fosse, il appela Daniel d’une voix angoissée : « Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu, que tu sers avec tant de constance, a- t-il pu te faire échapper aux lions?» Daniel répondit : « Ô roi, puisses- tu vivre à jamais ! Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange, qui a fermé la gueule des lions. Ils ne m’ont fait aucun mal, car j’avais été reconnu innocent devant lui ; et devant toi, ô roi, je n’avais rien fait de criminel. » Le roi ressentit une grande joie et ordonna de tirer Daniel de la fosse. On l’en retira donc, et il n’avait aucune blessure, car il avait eu foi en son Dieu. Le roi ordonna d’amener les accusateurs de Daniel et de les jeter dans la fosse aux lions, avec leurs enfants et leurs femmes ; or, avant même qu’ils soient au fond de la fosse, les lions les avaient happés et leur avaient broyé les os. Alors le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, nations et gens de toutes langues, qui habitent sur toute la terre : « Que votre paix soit grande ! Voici l’ordre que je donne : Dans toute l’étendue de mon empire, on doit trembler de crainte devant le Dieu de Daniel, car il est le Dieu vivant, il demeure éternellement ; son règne ne sera pas détruit, sa souveraineté n’aura pas de fin. Il délivre et il sauve, il accomplit des signes et des prodiges, au ciel et sur la terre, lui qui a sauvé Daniel de la griffe des lions. »

Quel malheur pour les femmes qui seront enceintes et celles qui allaiteront en ces jours- là, car il y aura un grand désarroi dans le pays, une grande colère contre ce peuple. Ils tomberont sous le tranchant de l’épée, ils seront emmenés en captivité dans toutes les nations ; Jérusalem sera foulée aux pieds par des païens, jusqu’à ce que leur temps soit accompli. Il y aura des signes dans le soleil, la lune et les étoiles. Sur terre, les nations seront affolées et désemparées par le fracas de la mer et des flots. Les hommes mourront de peur dans l’attente de ce qui doit arriver au monde, car les puissances des cieux seront ébranlées. Saint Paul dans la lettre aux romains dit: « Si Dieu est pour nous, qui sera contre nous » (6,31). Biens aimés du Seigneur si Dieu est de notre côté quel ennemi pourrait encore nous toucher? Si Dieu justifie, qui pourrait encore nous accuser ? Si Dieu sanctifie, qui pourrait encore nous souiller? Daniel a eu foi en son Dieu et il est resté fidèle à la tradition (prier trois fois par jour) c’est par cela que Dieu l’a préservé de la mort lorsqu’il était dans la fosse aux lions. Nous sommes invités à rester fidèle à la tradition de l’Église surtout en ces temps où la société nous présente des contre valeurs et pratiques contraires à la foi chrétienne. En tant que baptisés nous sommes ambassadeurs du Christ dans notre société et représentants de l’église du Christ.

St. Catherine was very outspoken at the time of the persecutions of Christians. She even protested openly to the emperor Maxentius who had her arrested, tortured on the wheel and decapitated in 305. St Catherine’s courage is a great challenge to all African Christians in their struggle for justice and peace.

The presidents and satraps came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God. They then came to the king and said, ‘Have you not just signed an edict forbidding any man for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, god or man, other than to yourself O king, on pain of being thrown into the lions’ den?’ ‘The decision stands,’ the king replied, ‘as befits the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.’ Then they said to the king, ‘O king, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregards both you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.’ When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed, and determined to save Daniel; he racked his brains until sunset to find some way out. But the men came back in a body to the king and said, ‘O king, remember that in conformity with the law of the Medes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.’ The king then ordered Daniel to be fetched and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, ‘Your God himself, whom you have served so faithfully, will have to save you.’ A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signet and with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel. The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of his concubines. Sleep eluded him, and at the first sign of dawn he was up, and hurried off to the lion pit. As he approached the pit he shouted in anguished tones, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God! Has your God, whom you serve so faithfully, been able to save you from the lions?’ Daniel replied, ‘O king, live for ever! My God sent his angel who sealed the lions’ jaws, they did me no harm, since in his sight I am blameless, and I have never done you any wrong either, O king.’ The king was overjoyed, and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from the pit, and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God. The king sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, they, their wives and their children: and they had not reached the floor of the pit before the lions had seized them and crushed their bones to pieces. King Darius then wrote to men of all nations, peoples and languages throughout the world, ‘May peace be always with you! I decree: in every kingdom of my empire let all tremble with fear before the God of Daniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his sovereignty will never be destroyed and his kingship never end. He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.’

Gospel: Luke 21:20-28
Jesus said to his disciples, ‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you must realise that she will soon be laid desolate. Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it. For this is the time of vengeance when all that scripture says must be fulfilled. Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come! For great misery will descend on the land and wrath on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every pagan country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans until the age of the pagans is completely over. There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.’
Prayer over the Offerings
Accept, O Lord, the sacred offerings which at your bidding we dedicate to your name and, in order that through these gifts we may become worthy of your love, grant us unfailing obedience to your commands. Through Christ our Lord.

Prayer after Communion
We pray, almighty God, that those to whom you give the joy of participating in divine mysteries may never be parted from you. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
In the letter to the Romans St. Paul says: ‘If God is for us, who will be against us’ (6:31). Beloved of the Lord, if God is on our side which enemy could touch us? If God justifies, who could accuse us? If God sanctifies, who could defile us? Daniel had faith in his God and remained faithful to tradition (praying three times a day), and God preserved him from death when he was thrown in the lion’s den. We are invited to remain faithful to the tradition of the Church, especially in these times when society presents us with values and practices which are contrary to the Christian faith. As baptised people we are ambassadors of Christ in our society and representatives of the Church of Christ.
