Saint Casimir
Prince polonais, Casimir (1458-1484) fut surnommé ‘’frère et défenseur des pauvres’’. Ame très pure, il avait un ardent amour envers la Vierge Marie. Après une vie austère, il mourut de phtisie. Il est le patron de la Pologne et de la Lituanie.

Scrute-moi, mon Dieu, et tu connaîtras mon cœur. Vois si le mal ne fait pas en moi son chemin et conduis-moi sur le chemin d’éternité.
Dieu qui aimes l’innocence et la fais recouvrer, oriente vers toi le cœur de tes fidèles, pour que, dociles à ton Esprit, ils soient fermes dans la foi et vraiment efficaces. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture : Jérémie 17, 5-10
Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Maudit soit l’homme qui met sa foi dans un mortel, qui s’appuie sur un être de chair, tandis que son cœur se détourne du Seigneur. Il sera comme un buisson sur une terre désolée, il ne verra pas venir le bonheur. Il aura pour demeure les lieux arides du désert, une terre salée, inhabitable. Béni soit l’homme qui met sa foi dans le Seigneur, dont le Seigneur est la confiance. Il sera comme un arbre, planté près des eaux, qui pousse, vers le courant, ses racines. Il ne craint pas quand vient la chaleur :son feuillage reste vert. L’année de la sécheresse, il est sans inquiétude :il ne manque pas de porter du fruit. Rien n’est plus faux que le cœur de l’homme, il est incurable. Qui peut le connaître ? Moi, le Seigneur, qui pénètre les cœurs et qui scrute les reins, afin de rendre à chacun selon sa conduite, selon le fruit de ses actes.

1. Heureux est l’homme qui n’entre pas au conseil des méchants, qui ne suit pas le chemin des pécheurs, ne siège pas avec ceux qui ricanent, mais se plaît dans la loi du Seigneur et murmure sa loi jour et nuit !
2. Il est comme un arbre planté près d’un ruisseau, qui donne du fruit en son temps, et jamais son feuillage ne meurt ; tout ce qu’il entreprend réussira. Tel n’est pas le sort des méchants.
3. Mais ils sont comme la paille balayée par le vent. Le Seigneur connaît le chemin des justes, mais le chemin des méchants se perdra.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait aux pharisiens : « Il y avait un homme riche, vêtu de pourpre et de lin fin, qui faisait chaque jour des festins somptueux. Devant son portail gisait un pauvre nommé Lazare, qui était couvert d’ulcères. Il aurait bien voulu se rassasier de ce qui tombait de la table du riche ; mais les chiens, eux, venaient lécher ses ulcères. Or le pauvre mourut, et les anges l’emportèrent auprès d’Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi, et on l’enterra. Au séjour des morts, il était en proie à la torture ; levant les yeux, il vit Abraham de loin et Lazare tout près de lui. Alors il cria : “Père Abraham, prends pitié de moi et envoie Lazare tremper le bout de son doigt dans l’eau pour me rafraîchir la langue, car je souffre terriblement dans cette fournaise. – Mon enfant, répondit Abraham, rappelle-toi : tu as reçu le bonheur pendant ta vie, et Lazare, le malheur pendant la sienne. Maintenant, lui, il trouve ici la consolation et toi, la souffrance. Et en plus de tout cela, un grand abîme a été établi entre vous et nous, pour que ceux qui voudraient passer vers vous ne le puissent pas, et que, de là-bas non plus, on ne traverse pas vers nous. ”Le riche répliqua : “Eh bien ! père, je te prie d’envoyer Lazare dans la maison de mon père. En effet, j’ai cinq frères : qu’il leur porte son témoignage, de peur qu’eux aussi ne viennent dans ce lieu de torture !” Abraham lui dit :“Ils ont Moïse et les Prophètes : qu’ils les écoutent ! – Non, père Abraham, dit-il, mais si quelqu’un de chez les morts vient les trouver, ils se convertiront.” Abraham répondit : “S’ils n’écoutent pas Moïse ni les Prophètes, quelqu’un pourra bien ressusciter d’entre les morts : ils ne seront pas convaincus.” » .
Par cette Eucharistie, Seigneur, sanctifie nos œuvres de pénitence, pour que l’entraînement du carême aboutisse à la vraie conversion du cœur. Par Jésus.

Heureux, les hommes d’une conduite irréprochable qui suivent la loi du Seigneur.

Que cette communion, Seigneur, demeure agissante en nous et prolonge son effet dans notre vie. Par Jésus.
La parabole d’aujourd’hui est d’actualité car relevant une réalité que nous rencontrons encore autour de nous. D’un côté les pauvres toujours appauvris, et de l’autre les riches s’enrichissant sans cesse. Cependant, le péché des riches n’est pas d’être riche. Il est de ne même pas porter un regard sur les pauvres qui pourtant sont sous leurs yeux, à leurs pieds. Les riches ne voient pas les pauvres. Ils ne considèrent que les riches. Le péché des riches dans la parabole est donc un péché d’aveuglement. C’est le péché de l’indifférence aux pauvres. Ce qui cause la perte des riches, c’est que leur cœur est un désert d’humanité. Il en va de même pour nous tous. Comment nous comportons-nous envers les pauvres ? Jusqu’où va notre générosité ?

He was the second son of King Casimir IV of Poland. He assiduously cultivated the Christian virtues, especially chastity and generosity to the poor. He died of tuberculosis on 4 March, 1484.

Situations of suffering actually call for pity and compassion for the victim, but this is not what we see in today’s Gospel between the rich man and Lazarus. While on earth, he never had compassion for Lazarus or offer him as much as a meal. When he died and was in pain, he cried to Abraham to have compassion on him and help with just a drop of water to cool his tongue. Dear friends, show compassion. Suffer with and assist those who suffer. Remember, when we help them, we are helping Christ and sharing his suffering.

Saint Guénolé
Alors qu’il a 24 ans et se trouve dans une école monastique tenue par saint Budoc, sur l’île Lavret (archipel de Bréhat), saint Patrick d’Irlande lui apparaît en songe en le priant de fonder un nouveau monastère. Il part avec 11 compagnons et se fixe d’abord sur l’îlot de Tibidi au fond de la rade de Brest, puis sur la rive opposée de l’Aulne, à Lantowinnoc, actuel Landevennec. Dans l’abbaye de Landevennec, les moines ne manquent pas d’invoquer chaque soir leur « père saint Guénolé ».

Le nom de Jésus veut dire sauveur. Servir et donner sa Vie, voilà comment Jésus résume sa mission sur terre. Jésus savait que c’était surtout par la souffrance et par une mort sanglante qu’il exercerait la mission de Sauveur. A plusieurs reprises, il a annoncé à ses Apôtres sa passion et sa mort tout en prédisant qu’il ressusciterait trois jours après. Ces deux événements, mort et résurrection, sont intimement associés à l’œuvre du salut. Si Jésus est mort, c’est pour nous donner la vie, sa propre Vie de Ressuscité. Aussi, pendant la semaine sainte, en méditant les moindres détails de sa passion, gardons toujours à l’esprit la grande lumière de pâques. Efforçons-nous donc de lui donner une réponse d’amour en écoutant sa Parole, en contemplant ses moindres gestes, surtout en le recevant souvent dans notre cœur par la sainte communion.

St. Katharine Drexel (1858 – 1955)
She was born in Philadelphia to a rich banking family. In 1891, at the age of 33, she founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, an order dedicated to mission work among Indians and black people. (A survey of the situation in the United States at this time described “250,000 Indians neglected, if not practically abandoned, and over nine million of negroes still struggling through the aftermath of slavery”). She spent her entire life and her entire fortune to this work, opening schools, founding a university, and funding many chapels, convents and monasteries. She died on 3 March 1955, by which time there were more than 500 Sisters teaching in 63 schools throughout the United States.

One thing which destroys us is the desire to be noticed at almost all levels of our lives. We want to be seen to have done something significant and, of course, be applauded by all. That is why the other apostles were indignant at the attitude of James and John. Could they be blamed for being led to Jesus by their mother? When we seek attention, there is the tendency to forget our primary function. Recognition is for this passing world, so let us all focus and gaze on God and His grandeur which is heaven, our reward.

Bienheureux Charles le Bon
Homme pénétré de l’amour de Dieu et fils du roi Knut IV (saint Canut du Danemark), il participa à la première croisade. A son retour, il devint comte des Flandres, de Picardie et d’Artois. Sa bonté lui fit des amis chez les pauvres et sa justice lui attira la haine des grands de ce monde qui l’assassinèrent pendant la messe dans l’Eglise Saint-Donatien de Bruges. Son culte fut confirmé en 1883.

Dans son sermon sur la montagne, la première béatitude que Jésus proclame concerne les pauvres de cœur. Saint Jean Chrysostome dira pour ceux qui se reconnaissent tout-petits devant Dieu et qui attendent tout de lui, les humbles. Dans l’Evangile d’aujourd’hui, Jésus dénonce l’attitude des scribes et des pharisiens nécessairement contraire à l’esprit des béatitudes. Il énumère quelques faits de leur orgueil : l’hypocrisie, le désir d’être remarqué, la recherche des premières places, la recherche des honneurs. En méditant l’évangile, demandons-nous si nous n’adoptons pas ces attitudes des pharisiens ? Ne nous arrive-t-il pas de nous croire supérieurs aux autres ? De se faire remarquer par nos vêtements et bijoux ? De rechercher certains honneurs, des titres ou des dignités ? Jésus, doux et humble de cœur, rendez mon cœur semblable au votre !

Chad was born in Northumbria, one of four brothers, all of whom became priests. He was educated under St Aidan and partly in Ireland. Chad was outstanding for his humility and simplicity of life. He died of the plague on 2 March 672.

Our authority must come from our submission to the teachings of charity and service and not from titles, as many think. Many of us today cling to titles and positions of honour, but forget too soon that respect is earned and not demanded. Christian leadership must follow the path Christ took; he led by serving others and giving them his time and love. To be a leader, lead by example and not by command. Even though we have to respect our leaders, we need to do so consciously so that we do not imitate their bad examples.

On the 28th of February, Claretian Missionaries celebrated the Bible Festival in two parishes in Yaoundé: Saints Peter and Paul, Simbock and Saint Joseph’s Anglophone’s Parish Mvog-Ada.
The year, the Evangelium Bible Diaries arrived this year late due to the pandemic in the world. Christians showed real hunger for the word of God and came in their numbers to feed themselves on the word of God.
The Evangelium Bible Diary published by the Claretian Missionaries of Cameroon is being used officially in Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Chad, and Cameroon. Our aim remains to Proclaim the Good News through all means possible.
The theme “Proclaim the Good News” has been chosen for our Bible Pastoral Ministry. We celebrate the Word of God and we spread it by all possible means particularly through social media: WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, etc. The Bible Festival gives us the occasion to celebrate, preach the Good News to the whole world and encourage people to live and practice this Word in their daily lives. Through the Bible Festival, we also profit to present the new edition of the Evangelium Bible Diary and other publications done by claretians. There were many Claretian Missionaries, lay Claretian, and collaborators present.

Cette année, les agendas bibliques de l’Evangelium sont arrivés très tard en raison de la pandémie qui sévit dans le monde. Les chrétiens ont montré une réelle faim de la parole de Dieu et sont venus en grand nombre pour se nourrir de la parole de Dieu.
L’Evangelium Agenda biblique publié par les Missionnaires Clarétains du Cameroun est utilisé officiellement au Mali, au Burkina Faso, en Côte d’Ivoire, au Gabon, au Tchad et au Cameroun. Notre objectif reste de proclamer la Bonne Nouvelle par tous les moyens possibles.
Le thème “Proclamer la Bonne Nouvelle” a été choisi pour notre ministère de pastorale biblique. Nous célébrons la Parole de Dieu et nous la diffusons par tous les moyens possibles, notamment par les médias sociaux : WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, etc. La Fête de la Bible nous donne l’occasion de célébrer, de prêcher la Bonne Nouvelle au monde entier et d’encourager les gens à vivre et à pratiquer cette Parole dans leur vie quotidienne. Saint Aubin d’Angers
Originaire de Vannes en Bretagne, il fut d’abord abbé de Nantilly, près de Saumur. Il devint évêque d’Angers dont il est le patron céleste. Il sut se dresser devant l’injustice pour adoucir le sort des prisonniers et des malheureux. Alors que beaucoup d’évêques se taisaient par crainte, il sut imposer le respect du mariage aux grands seigneurs qui, à l’époque mérovingienne, n’hésitaient pas à épouser leurs propres sœurs ou leurs propres filles.

Que cette communion, Seigneur, en nous guérissant du péché, nous donne part aux joies du ciel. Par Jésus.
Jésus nous demande de ne pas être prompts à juger les autres. Dieu seul peut sonder, à juste titre, les reins et les cœurs. Nous ne pouvons nous limiter qu’aux apparences et ignorons très souvent les influences, le manque d’éducation, les épreuves et les souffrances qui ont conduit au péché. Par ailleurs tous, nous sommes nous-mêmes pécheurs. Comme avec la femme adultère, Jésus nous interpelle aussi simplement : « que celui qui est sans péché lui jette la première pierre ! » Jean l’évangéliste déclare, non sans une pointe d’humour, que les accusateurs se retirèrent tous « en commençant par les plus âgés ! » Nous devons ressembler à notre Père du Ciel qui est la bonté même et qui fait lever son soleil sur les justes et sur les impies.

Although it is easier to forgive than forget, we must realise that both are extremely difficult to live. Each time we see our offender, we remember the injustice or the judgemental attitude we suffered from, the things we were denied of, the cruelty meted on us instead of compassion. Is it possible to forget about what happened and move forward? Difficult of course but we need to make an effort to forgive our neighbours because by not forgiving them, we imprison ourselves the more and God may just pay us back in our coins.

As we receive these glorious mysteries, we make thanksgiving to you, O Lord, for allowing us while still on earth to be partakers even now of the things of heaven. Through Christ our Lord.
Bless your faithful, we pray, O Lord, with a blessing that endures for ever, and keep them faithful to the Gospel of your Only Begotten Son, so that they may always desire and at last attain that glory whose beauty he showed in his own Body, to the amazement of his Apostles. The Lord himself is aware of the weakness of the human mind and its tendency to dampen quickly in the face of imminent threat, and so he shows his disciples a glimpse of what the end looks like as a way of strengthening their faith. As much as the transfiguration serves to strengthen the faith of the disciples, it also tells us who to pay attention to: Christ. In the journey of life, especially during Lent, we must not lose sight of Christ or give a deaf ear to his words. May the Lord open our eyes to see his glory and our minds to understand his words. Amen.
