She was born in New York into an Episcopalian family, who ostracized her and left her penniless when she became a Catholic in 1805. Seton was the first native born American to be canonized by the Catholic Church.

Meditation
To be begotten by God means being a child of God, and if you are a child of God, then you must live a holy life. This means that there should be no trace of sin in you. Holiness and sin are contradictory; they simply cannot dwell in the same person. If you sin, then you are not holy. Children of God do not sin, because God’s seed dwells in them; their lives are pleasing to God, and they love their brothers and sisters. This seed which makes them holy is Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The true child of God is therefore the one in whom Jesus Christ dwells, the one who lives with Christ and for Christ. Make Jesus your Rabbi, your Teacher. Follow him and live with him. Take your brother, your sister, your child and your friend to him. He is the way to holiness; he is the one who can free you from sin and make you a child of God

C’est dans le monde qu’elle mènera sa vie consacrée. Selon la tradition, lors du siège de Paris en 451, grâce à sa force de caractère, Geneviève, qui n’a que 28 ans convainc les habitants de Paris de ne pas abandonner leur cité aux Huns. Paris est effectivement épargné. Elle passera sa vie à secourir les pauvres et à aider les malades.

MÉDITATION
L’évangile de ce jour prolonge le témoignage que Jean Baptiste rend à Jésus. Tout en rappelant son statut de précurseur du Messie, Jean le décrit comme « l’Agneau de Dieu qui enlève le péché du monde ». L’image de l’agneau résume toute l’histoire de l’Alliance. Elle évoque ainsi le sang de l’agneau pascal de l’Exode que les israélites mirent sur les montants des portes des maisons afin d’échapper au fléau destructeur (Ex 12, 13) ; l’agneau d’Isaïe, en référence au Serviteur souffrant (Is 53, 7) et l’agneau immolé et dressé de l’Apocalypse, vainqueur des forces du mal (Ap 17, 14). Jésus est présenté comme cette victime pure et innocente qui vient s’offrir elle-même pour délivrer et sauver définitivement l’humanité du péché. Cet Agneau expiatoire et libérateur s’offre chaque jour dans le sacrement de l’Eucharistie. Jean Baptiste nous le présente et nous invite à l’accueillir.

Meditation
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we are invited to meditate on his identity. Who is this Jesus, on whose account we indulge in so much celebration? John the Baptist gives us three elements of the identity of Jesus. First, Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He is the one who is sacrificed in order for our sins to be washed away. Second, Jesus has always existed, which means that he is more than just a human being; he is God. Third, Jesus is the one on whom the Holy Spirit dwells, and who baptises with the Holy Spirit. He is filled with the Spirit of God, and he gives us this Spirit, who makes us children of God like him. The Lamb of God, who has always existed, and who brings the Spirit of divine sonship – that is the person whose birth we celebrate. What should be our attitude towards him? Nothing short of total surrender.

Saint Basile le Grand et saint Grégoire de Nazianze, évêques et docteurs de l’Église, Mémoire.
Saint Basile de Césarée (329-379) est l’un des principaux Pères de l’Église. Fondateur d’un monastère, il est l’auteur d’une règle connue comme la « règle de saint Basile » devenue la principale règle monastique de l’Église d’Orient. Saint Grégoire de Nazianze (329-390) fit la rencontre de Basile de Césarée dont il devint ami. Il est Ordonné évêque de Sasimes contre son gré par son ami Basile. Il est invité à Constantinople où il prend part à la lutte contre l’arianisme. L’empereur Théodose l’impose comme évêque et c’est lui qui préside le concile de Constantinople.

MÉDITATION
À travers les réponses que Jean Baptiste donne à ceux qui viennent l’interroger sur son identité, il nous est rappelé l’importance de la conscience et l’acceptation de notre identité et de notre mission. Jean Baptiste sait clairement qui il est. Il connaît exactement son rôle et sa mission qu’il ne compare et ne confond pas avec celle de Jésus. Jean nous donne une leçon sur la véritable humilité qui consiste à savoir reconnaître et aimer la place qui est la nôtre, apprécier et exalter celle des autres. Beaucoup de conflits qui surgissent souvent entre des personnes naissent du fait qu’elles ne se sentent jamais bien à leur place et convoitent celle des autres. Demandons au Seigneur la grâce d’aimer ce que nous sommes et d’y trouver sanctification par l’accomplissement joyeuse de notre mission.

Basil became bishop of Caesarea in 370. He fought against the Arians and was generous to the poor. Nazianzen was elected Bishop of Constantinople in 381 where he died on 25 January 389. He is known as “Gregory the Theologian” in honour of his learning and eloquence

In the first reading,St. John thus gives a simple and clear definition of the anti-Christ; the anti-Christ is anyone who does not acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ. Our Christian faith is founded on the person and teaching of Jesus; we believe that Jesus is the Christ, that is, the one anointed and sent by God to redeem us by his death and his resurrection, and we live in him by obeying his commandments. It is by doing these things that we can inherit the eternal life he has promised. Let us renew our faith in Jesus Christ, whose birth we are celebrating. Let us make a straight way for him in our hearts by amending our ways and embracing his teaching. And let us, like John the Baptist, point him out to those around us, so that they too may come to know and believe in him.

Marie fut proclamée Mère de Dieu par le concile d’Éphèse en 431, suite à l’hérésie nestorienne qui, niant la double nature humaine et divine de Jésus, ne reconnaissait pas de ce fait Marie comme Mère de Dieu, mais uniquement comme Mère du Christ. La reconnaissance de la maternité divine atteste la filiation divine de Jésus qui n’altère en rien son humanité.

Deuxième lecture: Galates 4, 4-7
Frères, lorsqu’est venue la plénitude des temps, Dieu a envoyé son Fils, né d’une femme et soumis à la loi de Moïse, afin de racheter ceux qui étaient soumis à la Loi et pour que nous soyons adoptés comme fils. Et voici la preuve que vous êtes des fils: Dieu a envoyé l’Esprit de son Fils dans nos cœurs, et cet Esprit crie « Abba ! », c’est-à-dire: Père ! Ainsi tu n’es plus esclave, mais fils, et puisque tu es fils, tu es aussi héritier: c’est l’œuvre de Dieu.

En ce temps-là, les bergers se hâtèrent d’aller à Bethléem, et ils découvrirent Marie et Joseph, avec le nouveau-né couché dans la mangeoire. Après avoir vu, ils racontèrent ce qui leur avait été annoncé au sujet de cet enfant. Et tous ceux qui entendirent s’étonnaient de ce que leur racontaient les bergers. Marie, cependant, retenait tous ces événements et les méditait dans son cœur. Les bergers repartirent ; ils glorifiaient et louaient Dieu pour tout ce qu’ils avaient entendu et vu, selon ce qui leur avait été annoncé. Quand fut arrivé le huitième jour, celui de la circoncision, l’enfant reçut le nom de Jésus, le nom que l’ange lui avait donné avant sa conception.

Nous avons communié à ton sacrement, Seigneur, en ce jour où nous saluons avec fierté, dans la bienheureuse Vierge Marie, La Mère de ton Fils, et la Mère de l’Église ; que cette communion fasse grandir en nous la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.
MÉDITATION
Le premier jour de l’an constitue une occasion de se souhaiter mutuellement du bien. Mais que valent réellement ces bénédictions ? La première lecture de ce jour nous rappelle que Dieu est la source de toute bénédiction véritable et l’être humain n’en constitue que le canal ou le moyen. Si le canal que nous constituons est défectueux, il est évident que la bénédiction n’atteint pas efficacement sa cible. Ce qui peut altérer la transmission de la bénédiction divine, c’est par exemple le refus d’aimer et de pardonner. Avant toute bénédiction, il faut un réel pardon, une réconciliation effective et une paix certaine. Ai-je pardonné ? Suis-je réconcilié ou pacifié avec moi-même et avec les autres lorsque je leur adresse mes vœux ? La bénédiction de Dieu nous est sans cesse proposée. Mais il nous revient de l’accueillir et d’en faciliter l’accès aux autres à travers de bonnes dispositions et attitudes.

Gospel: Luke 2:16-21

Meditation
Today, we celebrate the divine motherhood of Mary; Mary is the mother of God, Theotokos, because she is the mother of Jesus, who is true God and true Man. She carried God’s Son in her womb and gave him to the world on Christmas Day. We too can become “mothers” of God by carrying Jesus in our hearts, by letting him live in us, and by giving him to the world through words and actions that are inspired by his Word. Mary teaches us how to do that; she treasured all that was said about Jesus and pondered it in her heart. In the same way, we should ponder the Word of God in our hearts everyday; we should meditate on it and let it guide our thoughts, words and deeds. In this way, Jesus will dwell in us and through us people will know him.

Yaoundé, Cameroun. Le programme du Quinquennat du Cameroun a eu lieu du 26 au 29 décembre, 2018 à la Maison –Noviciat Anton Probst, à Yaoundé, sous la direction du P. Théophile Parfait Yene. CMF., comportant le thème : « Demeurez en mon amour » (Jn 15,9). En plus des expériences partagées par les jeunes missionnaires, ils se sont, aussi, enrichi les un avec les autres avec le partage d’expériences de certains de leurs frères ainés : Le P. Michel Archange Tigui, CMF (Supérieur Majeur), P. Rodolphe Mbida, CMF (Préfet de Formation), P. Franck Pare Loapan CMF (Préfet de Théologie de la Maison d’Étudiants) et le P. Alexandre Mvogo, CMF. Leurs témoignages ont semé chez eux la joie de demeurer dans l’amour du Christ et ils les ont invités à, toujours. Fixer leur regard sur Jésus, lequel les envoie en mission. De plus, le Secrétaire de la Délégation, P. Frédéric Kpournie CMF., leur a offert une formation sur liturgie afin d’améliorer leur façon de célébrer l’Eucharistie.
