Immaculée conception de la Vierge Marie
Choisie pour devenir la mère de l’unique Sauveur, Marie est comblée de la grâce que son Fils offre à tous les hommes. Cette grâce la préserve, dès sa conception, d’être privée de la vie divine, comme l’est tout homme solidaire d’Adam et de son péché. Marie est, selon l’expression de saint Irénée, la nouvelle Eve.
Antienne d’ouverture
Je tressaille de joie dans le Seigneur, mon âme exulte en mon Dieu. Car il m’a enveloppée du manteau de l’innocence, et m’a fait revêtir les vêtements du salut, comme une épouse parée de ses bijoux.
Prière d’ouverture
Seigneur, tu as préparé à ton Fils une demeure digne de lui par la conception immaculée de la Vierge; Puisque tu l’as préservée de tout péché par une grâce venant déjà de la mort de ton Fils, accorde-nous, par l’intercession de cette Mère très pure, de parvenir jusqu’à toi, purifiés, nous aussi, de tout mal. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Gn 3, 9-15.20
Quand l’homme eut désobéi à Dieu, le Seigneur Dieu l’appela et lui dit : «Où es-tu donc?» L’homme répondit: « Je t’ai entendu dans le jardin, j’ai pris peur parce que je suis nu, et je me suis caché.» Le Seigneur reprit: « Qui donc t’a dit que tu étais nu? Je t’avais interdit de manger du fruit de l’arbre ; en aurais-tu mangé ? » L’homme répondit: « La femme que tu m’as donnée, c’est elle qui m’a donné du fruit de l’arbre, et j’en ai mangé. » Le Seigneur Dieu dit à la femme : « Qu’as-tu fait là ?» La femme répondit : « Le serpent m’a trompée, et j’ai mangé. » Le Seigneur Dieu dit à la femme : « Qu ’as-tu fais là?» La femme répondit: « Le serpent m ’a trompé et j ’ai mangé.» alors le seigneur Dieu dit au serpent: «Parce que tu as fait cela, tu seras maudit parmi tous les animaux et toutes les bêtes du champs. Tu ramperas sur ton ventre et tu mangeras de la poussière tous les jours de ta vie. Je mettrai une hostilité entre la femme et toi, entre sa descendance et ta descendance : sa descendance te meurtrira la tête, et toi tu la meurtriras le talon. » L’homme appela sa femme « Ève » (c’est-à-dire : «la vivante » à, parce qu ’elle fut la mère de tous les vivants.
Psaume : 97, 1, 2-3b, 3c-4a.6b
R/ Le Seigneur a fait pour toi des merveilles, Vierge Marie.
- Chantez au Seigneur un chant nouveau, car il a fait des merveilles; par son bras très saint, par sa main puissante, il s’est assuré la victoire.
- Le Seigneur a fait connaître sa victoire et révélé sa justice aux nations ; il s’est rappelé sa fidélité, son amour, en faveur de la maison d’Israël.
- La terre toute entière a vu la victoire de notre Dieu. Acclamez le Seigneur, terre entière, acclamez votre roi, le Seigneur !
2ème lecture : Ep 1, 3-6.11-12
Béni soit Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ. Dans les cieux, il nous a comblés de sa bénédiction spirituelle en Jésus Christ. En lui, il nous a choisis avant la création du monde, pour que nous soyons, dans l’amour, saints et irréprochables sous son regard. Il nous a d’avance destinés à devenir pour lui des fils par Jésus Christ : voilà ce qu’il a voulu dans sa bienveillance, à la louange de sa gloire, de cette grâce dont il nous a comblés en son Fils bien-aimé. En lui, Dieu nous a d’avance destinés à devenir son peuple; car lui qui réalise tout ce qu’il a décidé, il a voulu que nous soyons ceux qui avaient espéré dans le Christ à la louange de sa gloire.

Alléluia. Alléluia Réjouis-toi, Vierge Marie, comblée de grâce : le Seigneur est avec toi, tu es bénie entre toutes les femmes. Alléluia. (cf. Lc 1, 28.42)
Évangile : Lc 1, 26-38
L’ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth, à une jeune fille, une vierge, accordée en mariage à un homme de la maison de David, appelé Joseph ; et le nom de la jeune fille était Marie. L’ange entra chez elle et dit : « Je te salue, Comblée-de-grâce, le Seigneur est avec toi. » À cette parole, elle fut toute bouleversée, et elle se demandait ce que pouvait signifier cette salutation. L’ange lui dit alors : « Sois sans crainte, Marie, car tu as trouvé grâce auprès de Dieu. Voici que tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils ; tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus. Il sera grand, il sera appelé Fils du Très-Haut ; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David son père ; il régnera pour toujours sur la maison de Jacob, et son règne n’aura pas de fin. » Marie dit à l’ange : « Comment cela va-t-il se faire, puisque je suis vierge?» L’ange lui répondit : « L’Esprit Saint viendra sur toi, et la puissance du Très-Haut te prendra sous son ombre ; c’est pourquoi celui qui va naître sera saint, et il sera appelé Fils de Dieu. Et voici qu’Élisabeth, ta cousine, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils dans sa vieillesse et elle en est à son sixième mois, alors qu’on l’appelait : ‘la femme stérile’. Car rien n’est impossible à Dieu.» Marie dit alors: « Voici la servante du Seigneur; que tout se passe pour moi selon ta parole. » Alors l’ange la quitta.

Accueille, Seigneur, le sacrifice du salut que nous t’offrons en ce jour où nous célébrons la conception immaculée de Marie ; Puisque nous reconnaissons que la prévenance de ta grâce l’a préservé de tout péché, accorde-nous par son intercession d’être libérés de toute faute. Par Jésus.
Antienne de la communion
Nous célébrons les merveilles que le Seigneur a faites pour la Vierge Marie: Par elle nous est venu le Soleil de justice, le Christ, notre Dieu.
Prière après la communion
Que cette communion Seigneur notre Dieu, guérisse en nous les blessures de la faute originelle dont tu as préservé la Vierge Marie, grâce au privilège de sa conception immaculée. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Après le péché d’Adam et Eve, Dieu avait promis à Satan que le Fils d’une femme lui meurtrira la tête (Gn 3, 15). La Vierge Marie, la seconde Eve, est cette femme par qui Dieu devait restaurer la grâce perdue à cause du péché de la première Eve. Cette femme a été préparée par Dieu d’une façon spéciale pour mettre au monde celui qui devrait restaurer la création et nous ouvrir aux bénédictions spirituelles dont parle l’apôtre Paul dans la deuxième lecture. Elle est une vierge (Mt 1, 25), pleine de grâce et bénie entre toutes les femmes (Lc 1, 42). Cette grâce lui est faite depuis sa conception. Le ventre qui devait porter le Fils de Dieu ne pouvait pas comporter de péché, faute de quoi il l’aurait transmis génétiquement. Marie a été conçue de ses parents Anne et Joachim, pleine de grâce. Elle est bénie entre toutes les femmes car le fruit de son sein est aussi béni (Lc 1, 42). Son fils est celui qui meurtrit la tête du serpent en soumettant même la mort à la damnation par sa résurrection. Par conséquent le cœur de Marie est immaculé, c’est-à-dire exempte de souillure du péché. En plus, Grâce à son oui Marie est devenue protagoniste de l’incarnation.

The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin, a grace that enabled Mary to give a “Yes” to becoming mother of the incarnate God, Jesus. The doctrine was formally defined as a doctrine of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
Entrance Antiphon : Is 61: 10
I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul; for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation, and wrapped me in a mantle of justice, like a bride adorned with her jewels.
Collect
O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin, prepared a worthy dwelling for your Son; grant, we pray, that, as you preserved her from every stain by virtue of the Death of your Son which you foresaw, so, through her intercession, we too may be cleansed and admitted to your presence. Graciously accept the saving sacrifice which we offer you, O Lord, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and grant that, as we profess her, on account of your prevenient grace, to be untouched by any stain of sin, so, through her intercession, we may be delivered from all our faults. Through Christ our Lord.
Communion Antiphon
Glorious things are spoken of you, O Mary, for from you arose the sun of justice, Christ our God.
Prayer after Communion
May the Sacrament we have received, O Lord our God, heal in us the wounds of that fault from which in a singular way you preserved Blessed Mary in her Immaculate Conception. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Even before he created us, God had willed that we should be his children through Jesus. The devil tried to foil this plan by leading Adam and Eve into sin. But Jesus overcame sin on the cross and reconciled us with God. When we celebrate the Immaculate Conception, we remember the role Mary played in this divine plan of salvation. God chose her to be the new Eve, whose offspring would destroy sin and death, and to prepare her for this mission he covered her with his shadow from the moment of her conception. By preserving Mary from original sin, God has made her a model of the purity he wants us to attain. May her prayers support us in our quest for holiness.

St. Ambrose of Milan
(340 – 397), Bishop, Doctor
He was born in Trier, Germany, between 337 and 340. Coerced by the people and by the emperor, he was baptized, ordained, and installed as bishop in 374. Ambrose was a key figure in the conversion of St Augustine to Catholicism, impressing Augustine by his intelligence and scholarship. He died on Holy Saturday, 4 April 397.

In the midst of the Church he opened his mouth, and the Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding and clothed him in a robe of glory.
Collect
O God, who made the Bishop Saint Ambrose a teacher of the Catholic faith and a model of apostolic courage, raise up in your Church men after your own heart to govern her with courage and wisdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading : Isaiah 40:25-31
‘To whom could you liken me and who could be my equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look. Who made these stars if not he who drills them like an army, calling each one by name? So mighty is his power, so great his strength, that not one fails to answer. How can you say, Jacob, how can you insist, Israel, ‘My destiny is hidden from the Lord, my rights are ignored by my God’? Meditation
In times of crisis, God can seem to be far away or absent. “God, are you alive? Do you even exist?” These are questions we tend to ask when things go awry and we see no signs of betterment. Today, God tells us that he is never absent or ignorant. He sees our sufferings and hears our cries of pain. Isaiah addresses words of hope and encouragement to us: those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. Jesus gives us the same message: “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.” Do not give up on Jesus. When troubles come, turn to him in confidence, and you will find consolation.

St. Ambroise, évêque et docteur de l’Eglise (340-397)
Haut fonctionnaire romain, né à Trèves vers 340, Ambroise est un homme estimé de tous. Le 7 décembre 374 à Milan, alors qu’il vient s’assurer que l’élection épiscopale se déroule sans trouble, ce chrétien, quoique catéchumène, ententd la foule reprendre, unanime, le cri lancé par un enfant :’’Ambroise évêque’’. La ‘’vocation’’, c’est aussi l’appel lancé par le peuple de Dieu.

Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu : « Je me susciterai un prêtre fidèle, qui agira selon mon cœur et mon désir ».
Prière d’ouverture
Seigneur, tu as fait de saint Ambroise un docteur de la foi catholique et un courageux successeur des Apôtres ; suscite en ton Église des hommes selon ton cœur, capables de la gouverner avec force et sagesse. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Is 40, 25-31
À qui donc pourriez-vous me comparer, qui pourrait être mon égal ? dit le Dieu Saint. Levez les yeux et regardez : qui a créé tout cela ? Celui qui déploie toute l’armée des étoiles, et les appelle chacune par son nom. Si grande est sa force, et telle est sa puissance qu’il n’en manque pas une. Pourquoi parles-tu ainsi, Jacob ? Israël, pourquoi affirmes-tu : « Mon chemin est caché à mon Dieu, le Seigneur néglige mon bon droit » ? Tu ne le sais donc pas, tu ne l’as pas appris ? Le Seigneur est le Dieu éternel, c’est lui qui crée la terre entière, il ne faiblit pas, il ne se lasse pas. Son intelligence est insondable. Il rend des forces à l’homme épuisé, il développe la vigueur de celui qui est faible. Les jeunes gens se fatiguent, se lassent, et les athlètes s’effondrent, mais ceux qui mettent leur espérance dans le Seigneur trouvent des forces nouvelles ; ils prennent leur essor comme des aigles, ils courent sans se lasser, ils marchent sans se fatiguer.

R/ Bénis le Seigneur, ô mon âme !
- Bénis le Seigneur, ô mon âme, bénis son nom très saint, tout mon être ! Bénis le Seigneur, ô mon âme, n’oublie aucun de ses bienfaits !
- Car il pardonne toutes tes offenses et te guérit de toute maladie ; il réclame ta vie à la tombe et te couronne d’amour et de tendresse.

En ce temps-là, Jésus prit la parole: «Venez à moi, vous tous qui peinez sous le poids du fardeau, et moi, je vous procurerai le repos. Prenez sur vous mon joug, devenez mes disciples, car je suis doux et humble de cœur, et vous trouverez le repos. Oui, mon joug est facile à porter, et mon fardeau, léger ».

Que ton Esprit, Seigneur notre Dieu, nous donne, dans cette eucharistie, la lumière de la foi qui éclairait saint Ambroise quand il annonçait ta gloire à son peuple. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Aujourd’hui, le Christ invite les pauvres et les petits à venir à lui. Ils portent sur eux des lourds fardeaux des exclusions, des silences imposés, des stigmatisations (à cause de leurs péchés ou de leur appartenance à la classe méprisée). Ce sont eux qui ont ouvert leur cœur à l’évangile. Ils sont nombreux des hommes et de femmes qui ploient sous le poids des fardeaux, qui sont écrasés par les souffrances physiques, morales ou spirituelles. Aucun de nous n’en est épargné d’une manière ou d’une autre. Le Christ nous invite à décharger sur lui nos fardeaux. Sur la croix Il s’est chargé de nos péchés pour obtenir notre libération. Il nous propose de porter le joug de l’évangile par ses exigences, son intransigeance, mais un joug qui allège, qui libère, qui soulage. Comment porter le joug de l’évangile ? En devenant disciple du Christ, autrement dit, en nous mettant à son école pour apprendre de lui la douceur et l’humilité du cœur. Ceci sous-entend que la plupart de nos malheurs proviennent de la dureté du cœur et de l’orgueil. Ce sont ces vices qui rendent rugueux nos sentiers et qui nous privent de la paix du cœur qui est la vraie paix.

St. Nicholas
He was bishop of Myra, in Lycia (now part of Turkey) and died about the middle of the fourth century. He is the patron saint of pawnbrokers, whose insignia of three golden balls represent the three purses of gold he is said to have given secretly to a poor man who could not afford dowries for his three daughters.

Replenished by the food of spiritual nourishment, we humbly beseech you, O Lord, that, through our partaking in this mystery, you may teach us to judge wisely the things of earth, and hold firm to the things of heaven. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Our lives are a wilderness characterised by intense activity and the quest to satisfy multiple desires: material success, justice, self-fulfilment and happiness. God wants us to prepare, in this wilderness, a way for him to travel. He wants us to make a place for him in our lives. He desires to come to us because he does not want us to be lost; he knows that the world makes us many offers that can lead us astray, and cannot give us the happiness we seek. Let us turn to him and allow him to renew us. Let us also allow him to use us to reach out to those around us who are lost, in order to bring them back to the fold.
