Antienne  d’ouverture : Ps 37, 22-23

Ne m’abandonne pas, Seigneur, mon Dieu, ne reste pas loin de moi. Hâte-toi de venir à mon aide, toi, ma force et mon salut.

 

Prière  d’ouverture

Dieu de puissance et de miséricorde, c’est ta grâce qui donne à tes fidèles de pouvoir dignement te servir ; Accorde-nous de progresser sans que rien nous arrête vers les biens que tu promets. Par Jésus Christ.

 

1ère lecture : Sagesse 11, 22 – 12, 2

Seigneur, le monde entier est devant toi comme un rien sur la balance, comme la goutte de rosée matinale qui descend sur la terre. Pourtant, tu as pitié de tous les hommes, parce que tu peux tout. Tu fermes les yeux sur leurs péchés, pour qu’ils se convertissent. Tu aimes en effet tout ce qui existe, tu n’as de répulsion envers aucune de tes œuvres ; si tu avais haï quoi que ce soit, tu ne l’aurais pas créé. Comment aurait-il subsisté, si tu ne l’avais pas voulu ? Comment serait-il resté vivant, si tu ne l’avais pas appelé ? En fait, tu épargnes tous les êtres, parce qu’ils sont à toi, Maître qui aimes les vivants, toi dont le souffle impérissable les anime tous. Ceux qui tombent, tu les reprends peu à peu, tu les avertis, tu leur rappelles en quoi ils pèchent, pour qu’ils se détournent du mal et croient en toi, Seigneur.

 

Psaume 144 (145), 1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13cd-14

R/   Mon Dieu, mon Roi,je bénirai ton nom toujours et à jamais ! (Ps 144, 1)

 

  1. Je t’exalterai, mon Dieu, mon Roi,je bénirai ton nom toujours et à jamais! Chaque jour je te bénirai, je louerai ton nom toujours et à jamais.
  2. Le Seigneur est tendresse et pitié, lent à la colère et plein d’amour; la bonté du Seigneur est pour tous, sa tendresse, pour toutes ses œuvres.
  3. Que tes œuvres, Seigneur, te rendent grâce et que tes fidèles te bénissent! Ils diront la gloire de ton règne, ils parleront de tes exploits.
  4. Le Seigneur est vrai en tout ce qu’il dit, fidèle en tout ce qu’il fait. Le Seigneur soutient tous ceux qui tombent, il redresse tous les accablés.

 

2ème lecture : 2 Th 1, 11 – 2, 2

Frères, nous prions pour vous à tout moment afin que notre Dieu vous trouve dignes de l’appel qu’il vous a adressé ; par sa puissance, qu’il vous donne d’accomplir tout le bien que vous désirez, et qu’il rende active votre foi. Ainsi, le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus sera glorifié en vous, et vous en lui, selon la grâce de notre Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus Christ. Frères, nous avons une demande à vous faire à propos de la venue de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ et de notre rassemblement auprès de lui : si l’on nous attribue une inspiration, une parole ou une lettre prétendant que le jour du Seigneur est arrivé, n’allez pas aussitôt perdre la tête, ne vous laissez pas effrayer. »

 

Acclamation

Alléluia. Alléluia! Dieu a tellement aimé le monde qu’il a donné son Fils unique, afin que ceux qui croient en lui aient la vie éternelle. Alléluia! (Jn 3, 1)

 

Évangile : Luc 19, 1-10

En ce temps-là, entré dans la ville de Jéricho, Jésus la traversait. Or, il y avait un homme du nom de Zachée ; il était le chef des collecteurs d’impôts, et c’était quelqu’un de riche. Il cherchait à voir qui était Jésus, mais il ne le pouvait pas à cause de la foule, car il était de petite taille. Il courut donc en avant et grimpa sur un sycomore pour voir Jésus qui allait passer par là. Arrivé à cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux et lui dit : « Zachée, descends vite : aujourd’hui il faut que j’aille demeurer dans ta maison. » Vite, il descendit et reçut Jésus avec joie. Voyant cela, tous récriminaient : « Il est allé loger chez un homme qui est un pécheur. » Zachée, debout, s’adressa au Seigneur : « Voici, Seigneur : je fais don aux pauvres de la moitié de mes biens, et si j’ai fait du tort à quelqu’un, je vais lui rendre quatre fois plus. » Alors Jésus dit à son sujet : « Aujourd’hui, le salut est arrivé pour cette maison, car lui aussi est un fils d’Abraham. En effet, le Fils de l’homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu. »

 

Prière  sur  les  offrandes

Seigneur, que cette eucharistie soit pour toi une offrande pure, et pour nous, le don généreux de ta miséricorde. Par Jésus.

 

Antienne  de  communion : Ps 15, 11

Tu m’as montré, Seigneur, la route de la vie, tu m’as rempli de joie par ta présence.

 

Prière  après  la  communion

De plus en plus, Seigneur, exerce en nous ta puissance: afin que, fortifiés par tes sacrements, nous devenions capables, avec ta grâce, d’entrer en possession des biens qu’ils promettent. Par Jésus.

 

 

Méditation

La miséricorde et la grâce de Dieu sont insondables et ne font pas de différence entre les hommes. Quand elles touchent un cœur endurci, il finit par se convertir et changer de vie. Aujourd’hui c’est au tour de Zachée d’être interpellé par le regard miséricordieux de Dieu qui ne veut perdre aucun de ses fils, mais plutôt qu’ils aient la vie éternelle. Devant l’infinie bonté de Dieu, Zachée décide de rembourser jusqu’à quatre fois à celui à qui il a extorqué quoi que ce soit, et de donner la moitié de ses biens, car le salut de Dieu est entré dans sa maison, lui aussi fils d’Abraham. Nous sommes tous fils d’Abraham et Dieu a un regard miséricordieux sur chacun de nous. Accepterions-nous de l’accueillir comme Zachée pour qu’il change notre vie nous aussi ?

Almighty and merciful God, by whose gift your faithful offer you right and praiseworthy service, grant, we pray, that we may hasten without stumbling to receive the things you have promised. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

 

First reading : Wisdom 11:22-12:2

In your sight, Lord, the whole world is like a grain of dust that tips the scales, like a drop of morning dew falling on the ground. Yet you are merciful to all, because you can do all things and overlook men’s sins so that they can repent. Yes, you love all that exists, you hold nothing of what you have made in abhorrence, for had you hated anything, you would not have formed it. And how, had you not willed it, could a thing persist, how be conserved if not called forth by you? You spare all things because all things are yours, Lord, lover of life, you whose imperishable spirit is in all. Little by little, therefore, you correct those who offend, you admonish and remind them of how they have sinned, so that they may abstain from evil and trust in you, Lord.

 

Psalm 144(145):1-2,8-11,13b-14

R/ I will bless your name for ever, O God my King.

 

  1. I will give you glory, O God my king, I will bless your name for ever. I will bless you day after day and praise your name for ever.
  2. The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures.
  3. All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord, and your friends shall repeat their blessing. They shall speak of the glory of your reign and declare your might, O God.
  4. The Lord is faithful in all his words and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall and raises all who are bowed down.

 

Second reading : 2 Thessalonians 1:11-2:2

We pray continually that our God will make you worthy of his call, and by his power fulfil all your desires for goodness and complete all that you have been doing through faith; because in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. To turn now, brothers, to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we shall all be gathered round him: please do not get excited too soon or alarmed by any prediction or rumour or any letter claiming to come from us, implying that the Day of the Lord has already arrived.

Gospel : Luke 19:1-10

Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the town when a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance: he was one of the senior tax collectors and a wealthy man. He was anxious to see what kind of man Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way. When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him: ‘Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry, because I must stay at your house today.’ And he hurried down and welcomed him joyfully. They all complained when they saw what was happening. ‘He has gone to stay at a sinner’s house’ they said. But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, ‘Look, sir, I am going to give half my property to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody I will pay him back four times the amount.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek out and save what was lost.’

 

Prayer over the Offerings

May these sacrificial offerings, O Lord, become for you a pure oblation, and for us a holy outpouring of your mercy. Through Christ our Lord.

 

Communion Antiphon : Cf. Ps 15: 11

You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence, O Lord.

 

Prayer after Communion

May the working of your power, O Lord, increase in us, we pray, so that, renewed by these heavenly Sacraments, we may be prepared by your gift for receiving what they promise. Through Christ our Lord.

 

Meditation

Jesus often visits at unexpected times and often visits the underprivileged and public sinners like the tax collector, Zacchaeus. Tax collectors are often treated as outcasts, despised and hated because they accumulate wealth at the expense of others. Zacchaeus needs God’s merciful love because of his sinful nature. In his encounter with Jesus, he finds more than he ever hoped for: salvation. His change of heart results in his change of life. The Lord is always ready to make His home in us if we truly repent like Zacchaeus. Do you have room for Jesus in your heart and home like Zacchaeus?

Il présida le concile de Palestine qui décida de célébrer Pâques un dimanche et non au jour anniversaire du 14 nisan. Il mourut plus que centenaire.

 

Antienne d’ouverture : Ps 104, 3-4

Soyez dans la joie, vous qui cherchez Dieu. Cherchez le Seigneur et sa force, sans vous lasser, recherchez son visage.

 

Prière  d’ouverture

Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, augmente en nous la foi, l’espérance et la charité. Et pour que nous puissions obtenir ce que tu promets, fais-nous aimer ce que tu commandes. Par Jésus Christ.

 

1ère lecture : Ph 1, 18b-26

Frères, de toute façon, que ce soit avec des arrière-pensées ou avec sincérité, le Christ est annoncé, et de cela je me réjouis. Bien plus, je me réjouirai encore, car je sais que cela tournera à mon salut, grâce à votre prière et à l’assistance de l’Esprit de Jésus Christ. C’est ce que j’attends avec impatience, et c’est ce que j’espère. Je n’aurai à rougir de rien ; au contraire, je garderai toute mon assurance, maintenant comme toujours ; soit que je vive, soit que je meure, le Christ sera glorifié dans mon corps. En effet, pour moi, vivre c’est le Christ, et mourir est un avantage. Mais si, en vivant en ce monde, j’arrive à faire un travail utile, je ne sais plus comment choisir. Je me sens pris entre les deux : je désire partir pour être avec le Christ, car c’est bien préférable ; mais, à cause de vous, demeurer en ce monde est encore plus nécessaire. De cela, je suis convaincu. Je sais donc que je resterai, et que je continuerai à être avec vous tous, pour votre progrès et votre joie dans la foi. Ainsi, à travers ce qui m’arrive, vous aurez d’autant plus de fierté dans le Christ Jésus, du fait de mon retour parmi vous.

R/   Mon âme a soif du Dieu vivant.

 

  1. Comme un cerf altéré cherche l’eau vive, ainsi mon âme te cherche toi, mon Dieu.
  2. Mon âme a soif de Dieu, le Dieu vivant ; quand pourrai-je m’avancer, paraître face à Dieu?
  3. Je me souviens, et mon âme déborde : en ce temps-là, je franchissais les portails !
  4. Je conduisais vers la maison de mon Dieu la multitude en fête, parmi les cris de joie et les actions de grâce.

 

Acclamation

Alléluia. Alléluia! Prenez sur vous mon joug, devenez mes disciples, dit le Seigneur, car je suis doux et humble de cœur. Alléluia! (cf. Mt 11, 29ab)

 

Évangile : Lc 14, 1.7-11

Un jour de sabbat, Jésus était entré dans la maison d’un chef des pharisiens pour y prendre son repas, et ces derniers l’observaient. Jésus dit une parabole aux invités lorsqu’il remarqua comment ils choisissaient les premières places, et il leur dit : « Quand quelqu’un t’invite à des noces, ne va pas t’installer à la première place, de peur qu’il ait invité un autre plus considéré que toi. Alors, celui qui vous a invités, toi et lui, viendra te dire : “Cède-lui ta place” ; et, à ce moment, tu iras, plein de honte, prendre la dernière place. Au contraire, quand tu es invité, va te mettre à la dernière place. Alors, quand viendra celui qui t’a invité, il te dira : “Mon ami, avance plus haut”, et ce sera pour toi un honneur aux yeux de tous ceux qui seront à la table avec toi. En effet, quiconque s’élève sera abaissé ; qui s’abaisse sera élevé. »

Regarde les présents déposés devant toi, Seigneur notre Dieu. Permets que notre célébration contribue d’abord à ta gloire. Par Jésus.

Joyeux d’être sauvés, nous acclamons le nom de notre Dieu.

 

Prière  après  la  communion

Que tes sacrements, Seigneur, achèvent de produire en nous ce qu’ils signifient, afin que nous entrions un jour en pleine possession du mystère que nous célébrons dans ces rites. Par Jésus.

 

 

Méditation

L’humilité est une vertu qui pousse à la connaissance de ses qualités et de ses défauts. Elle n’invite pas à une autoglorification, mais plutôt à se mettre à la dernière place et servir les autres. C’est un chemin de maturité. Dans l’évangile, Jésus nous invite à être vigilants à l’esprit d’orgueil qui nous guette tous et qui nous pousse souvent à nous considérer plus important que d’autres. Il nous invite à être prudents pour ne pas se faire humilier dans les manifestations publiques. L’humiliation n’a rien à voir avec l’humilité. Demandons à Dieu de nous donner le don de l’humilité et de la prudence.

He was the son of an Irish chieftain. He was educated at Saint Enda’s monastery in the Aran Islands. Thereafter he was a recluse, living in prayer and fasting. With the King of Connaught he founded the monastery of Kilmacduagh which he governed as abbot-bishop.

First reading : Philippians 1:18-26

Christ is proclaimed; and that makes me happy; and I shall continue being happy, because I know this will help to save me, thanks to your prayers and to the help which will be given to me by the Spirit of Jesus. My one hope and trust is that I shall never have to admit defeat, but that now as always I shall have the courage for Christ to be glorified in my body, whether by my life or by my death. Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would bring me something more; but then again, if living in this body means doing work which is having good results-I do not know what I should choose. I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and be with Christ, which would be very much the better, but for me to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need for your sake. This weighs with me so much that I feel sure I shall survive and stay with you all, and help you to progress in the faith and even increase your joy in it; and so you will have another reason to give praise to Christ Jesus on my account when I am with you again.

Gospel : Luke 14:1,7-11

Now on a sabbath day Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely. He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. He said this, ‘When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A more distinguished person than you may have been invited, and the person who invited you both may come and say, “Give up your place to this man.” And then, to your embarrassment, you would have to go and take the lowest place. No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your host comes, he may say, “My friend, move up higher.” In that way, everyone with you at the table will see you honoured. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’

 

Prayer over the Offerings

Look, we pray, O Lord, on the offerings we make to your majesty, that whatever is done by us in your service may be directed above all to your glory. Through Christ our Lord.

We will ring out our joy at your saving help and exult in the name of our God.

 

Prayer after Communion

May your Sacraments, O Lord, we pray, perfect in us what lies within them, that what we now celebrate in signs we may one day possess in truth. Through Christ our Lord.

 

Meditation

Jesus’ parable of the guest invited to the marriage feast examines our motives for seeking honour and position. Many seek self-promotion at the expense of others. True humility is not feeling bad about yourself or having an inferiority complex. It is about truth in self-understanding and action. Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues because it enables people to see and judge correctly. There is always someone more distinguished than us, but we always have to rely on God to assure us of our dignity and worth.

StS. Simon and Jude, Apostles – Feast

 

Jude, also called Thaddaeus, is the apostle who at the Last Supper asked the Lord why he showed himself only to the disciples and not to the world. For many centuries he was scarcely venerated because people confused him with Judas Iscariot. He is the patron saint of lost and desperate causes.

 

Entrance Antiphon

These are the holy men whom the Lord chose in his own perfect love; to them he gave eternal glory.

 

Collect

O God, who by the blessed Apostles have brought us to acknowledge your name, graciously grant, through the intercession of Saints Simon and Jude, that the Church may constantly grow by increase of the peoples who believe in you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

 

First reading : Ephesians 2:19-22

You are no longer aliens or foreign visitors: you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God’s household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit.

 

Psalm 18(19):2-5

R/ Their word goes forth through all the earth.

 

  1. The heavens proclaim the glory of God, and the firmament shows forth the work of his hands. Day unto day takes up the story and night unto night makes known the message.

When day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve of them; he called them ‘apostles’: Simon whom he called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor.

 

Prayer over the Offerings

As we venerate the perpetual glory of the holy Apostles Simon and Jude, O Lord, we ask that you receive our prayers and lead us to worthy celebration of the sacred mysteries. Through Christ our Lord.

 

Communion Antiphon : Jn 14: 23

Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.

 

Prayer after Communion

Having received this Sacrament, O Lord, we humbly implore you in the Holy Spirit, that what we do to honour the glorious passion of the Apostles Simon and Jude may keep us ever in your love. Through Christ our Lord.

 

Meditation

Do you pray when faced with an incredibly important decision in life? Jesus is faced with one of such decisions. He has come to earth to show and teach people what God is like and how to have an everlasting relationship with God. He must pass on the essential truths of why He came to a few people who, in turn, will pass it on to others after He is gone. Knowing it is an important decision, He prays the whole night before choosing the twelve disciples. Again we see Jesus as a perfect model of prayer. He chooses ordinary men to take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. Do you often pray to ask for God’s enlightenment like Jesus does, before taking important decisions in life?
