Prière d’ouverture
Dieu qui as envoyé ton Fils pour nous sauver et pour faire de nous tes enfants d’adoption, regarde avec bonté ceux que tu aimes comme un père. Puisque nous croyons au Christ, accorde-nous la vraie liberté et la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Ez 33, 7-9
La parole du Seigneur me fut adressée : « Fils d’homme, je fais de toi un guetteur pour la maison d’Israël. Lorsque tu entendras une parole de ma bouche, tu les avertiras de ma part. Si je dis au méchant : ‘Tu vas mourir’, et que tu ne l’avertisses pas, si tu ne lui dis pas d’abandonner sa conduite mauvaise, lui, le méchant, mourra de son péché, mais à toi, je demanderai compte de son sang. Au contraire, si tu avertis le méchant d’abandonner sa conduite, et qu’il ne s’en détourne pas, lui mourra de son péché, mais toi, tu auras sauvé ta vie. »

Entrez, inclinez-vous, prosternez-vous, adorons le Seigneur qui nous a faits. Oui, il est notre Dieu ; nous sommes le peuple qu’il conduit.
Aujourd’hui écouterez-vous sa parole ? « Ne fermez pas votre cœur comme au désert, où vos pères m’ont tenté et provoqué, et pourtant ils avaient vu mon exploit. »
2ème lecture : Rm 13, 8-10
Frères, n’ayez de dette envers personne, sauf celle de l’amour mutuel, car celui qui aime les autres a pleinement accompli la Loi. La Loi dit : Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère, tu ne commettras pas de meurtre, tu ne commettras pas de vol, tu ne convoiteras pas. Ces commandements et tous les autres se résument dans cette parole: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même. L’amour ne fait rien de mal au prochain. Donc, le plein accomplissement de la Loi, c’est l’amour.

Dans le Christ, Dieu réconciliait le monde avec lui : il a mis dans notre bouche la parole de la réconciliation.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Si ton frère a commis un péché contre toi, va lui faire des reproches seul à seul. S’il t’écoute, tu as gagné ton frère. S’il ne t’écoute pas, prends en plus avec toi une ou deux personnes afin que toute l’affaire soit réglée sur la parole de deux ou trois témoins. S’il refuse de les écouter, dis-le à l’assemblée de l’Église ; s’il refuse encore d’écouter l’Église, considère-le comme un païen et un publicain. Amen, je vous le dis : tout ce que vous aurez lié sur la terre sera lié dans le ciel, et tout ce que vous aurez délié sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel. Et pareillement, amen, je vous le dis, si deux d’entre vous sur la terre se mettent d’accord pour demander quoi que ce soit, ils l’obtiendront de mon Père qui est aux cieux. Dieu qui donnes la grâce de te servir avec droiture et de chercher la paix, fais que cette offrande puisse te glorifier, et que notre participation à l’eucharistie renforce les liens de notre unité. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Dans l’évangile il nous est donné des outils permettant de maintenir les relations et de construire l’harmonie là où la discorde, la méfiance et l’égoïsme s’imposent. Alors que dans le monde d’aujourd’hui les menaces et de la force dominent sur les modes privilégiés de résolution des conflits entre les personnes et les nations, Jésus propose un modèle de résolution des conflits basé sur le respect de l’autre, le respect de la sagesse et des conseils des tiers et, en fin de compte, le respect des décisions de la communauté. Il s’agit de la rencontre et du dialogue entre les deux parties en présence. Ce mode repose sur la conviction que dans toute lutte, il y a du bon et du mauvais des deux côtés. Il se déroule sans publicité, ce qui réduit les risques d’embarras pour les parties concernées. L’Évangile nous appelle donc à découvrir par nous-mêmes le mode de résolution des conflits que nous utilisons.

Second reading: Romans 13:8-10
Avoid getting into debt, except the debt of mutual love. If you love your fellow men you have carried out your obligations. Love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbour; that is why it is the answer to every one of the commandments.

Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: “If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: the evidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain any charge. But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to the community, treat him like a pagan or a tax collector. I tell you solemnly, whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven. I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. O God, who give us the gift of true prayer and of peace, graciously grant that through this offering, we may do fitting homage to your divine majesty and, by partaking of the sacred mystery, we may be faithfully united in mind and heart. Through Christ our Lord.

Prayer after Communion
Grant that your faithful, O Lord, whom you nourish and endow with life through the food of your Word and heavenly Sacrament, may so benefit from your beloved Son’s great gifts that we may merit an eternal share in his life. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Meditation
Jesus gives us the necessary steps of reconciliation when wronged by a fellow brother or sister. But even if all these fail, he still urges us to treat them as a tax collector or pagan. The question to ask here is how did Jesus treat them? Jesus said that he came for sinners (Matthew 9:12). He showered them with love. He called Matthew – a tax collector, and made him a disciple (Matthew 9:9-13). He spent time with Zacchaeus the tax collector and turned him from a cheat and oppressor to charitable and repentant disciple. Jesus forgave the numerous sins of the sinful woman who washed his feet with her tears (Luke 7:36-50). And he said whatever we agree on earth is accepted in heaven. Agreement can only come when there is love. A gathering in God’s name is a gathering of Love because God is love. Love is the only debt we owe one another. If we love our brothers, we will always strive for peace and reconciliation. We will always watch over them and prevent them from falling into sin. We will keep all the other commandments if we love.

Alain fut un grand prédicateur dominicain et l’un des premiers disciples de saint Dominique. C’est lui qui coordonna le chapelet et l’enrichit en y ajoutant les méditations, ainsi que la vie de Jésus et Marie. Il le baptisa chapelet du Rosaire parce qu’il ressemblait à un bouquet de roses qu’on dépose aux pieds de la Vierge.

Dieu puissant, de qui vient tout don parfait enracine en nos cœurs l’amour de ton nom. Resserre nos liens avec toi, pour développer ce qui est bon en nous, veille sur nous avec sollicitude, pour protéger ce que tu as fait grandir. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Col 1, 21-23
Frères, vous étiez jadis étrangers à Dieu, et même ses ennemis, par vos pensées et vos actes mauvais. Mais maintenant, Dieu vous a réconciliés avec lui, dans le corps du Christ, son corps de chair, par sa mort, afin de vous introduire en sa présence, saints, immaculés, irréprochables. Un jour de sabbat, Jésus traversait des champs ; ses disciples arrachaient des épis et les mangeaient, après les avoir froissés dans leurs mains. Quelques pharisiens dirent alors: « Pourquoi faites-vous ce qui n’est pas permis le jour du sabbat ?» Jésus leur répondit : « N’avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David un jour qu’il eut faim, lui-même et ceux qui l’accompagnaient ? Il entra dans la maison de Dieu, prit les pains de l’offrande, en mangea et en donna à ceux qui l’accompagnaient, alors que les prêtres seulement ont le droit d’en manger. » Il leur disait encore : « Le Fils de l’homme est maître du sabbat. »

Méditation
A la base du conflit, il y a la récolte des épis de maïs par les disciples pour raison de famine, considérée par les pharisiens comme une transgression de la loi du sabbat. Jésus répond immédiatement en rappelant que David lui-même a fait des choses qui étaient interdites pour sauver la vie de ses soldats (I Sam 21,2-7). En Matthieu, il cite aussi la législation qui autorise les prêtres à travailler le samedi. Jésus termine par une déclaration qui va choquer profondément ses adversaires, à savoir que le Fils de l’homme est le maître du sabbat. Il s’affirme ainsi comme égal de Dieu qui a donné cette loi à Moïse. Ce qui est aux yeux des pharisiens un blasphème qui mérite la sentence de la mort. Voilà pourquoi ils vont chercher à l’éliminer. Dans l’Évangile de Marc, Jésus revalorise la loi du sabbat en disant : «Le sabbat a été institué pour l›homme et non l’homme pour le sabbat». Autrement dit ce qui importe c’est l’esprit de la loi (le bien de l’homme), et non pas la lettre de la loi.

Saint Stephen, the First Martyr
Feast
Stephen is the first martyr. He was one of the deacons appointed by the Apostles to organize the distribution of food to the poor. Angry Jews fabricated false charges against him and was stoned to death. He prayed for his persecutors as he was dying. One of them, Saul of Tarsus, was later converted and became the great missionary, St Paul.
Entrance Antiphon
The gates of heaven were opened for blessed Stephen, who was found to be first among the number of the Martyrs and therefore is crowned triumphant in heaven.
Collect
Grant, Lord, we pray, that we may imitate what we worship, and so learn to love even our enemies, for we celebrate the heavenly birthday of a man who knew how to pray even for his persecutors. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: Acts 6: 8-10, 7: 54-59
Stephen was filled with grace and power and began to work miracles and great signs among the people. But then certain people came forward to debate with Stephen, some from Cyrene and Alexandria who were members of the synagogue called the Synagogue of Freedmen, and others from Cilicia and Asia. They found they could not get the better of him because of his wisdom, and because it was the Spirit that prompted what he said. They were infuriated when they heard this, and ground their teeth at him. But Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God’s right hand. “I can see heaven thrown open”, he said, “and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” At this all the members of the council shouted out and stopped their ears with their hands; then they all rushed at him, sent him out of the city and stoned him. The witnesses put down their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul. As they were stoning him, Stephen said in invocation, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

For the many mercies which surround us we give thanks to you, O Lord, who save us through the Nativity of your Son and gladden us with the celebration of the blessed Martyr Stephen. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Today’s Gospel speaks of the tribulations and sufferings of the disciple owing to the name of Jesus. The convocation before tribunals, flogging, betrayals by close ones and the death – as is the case of Saint Stephen – are part of the fate of the disciples of Jesus. Just like Saint Stephen the first martyr, many Christians suffer persecution and death in different parts of the world today because of the name of Jesus. In this situation, Jesus recommends that we be calm and let the Spirit fight for us. But he also asks us to be perseverant, “for he who perseveres till the end will be saved”. What prevents me today from persevering on path of faith amidst tribulation today? Remember what Saint Augustine says, “God who created you without you cannot save you without you”.

Nativité de la Vierge Marie
Fete
Toute naissance est source de joie et motif d’action de grâce envers le Dieu vivant qui a appelé le nouveau-né à la vie et l’appelle à partager la vie éternelle. La naissance de Marie suscite dans l’Église une joie et une action de grâce spéciales. Remplie du Saint-Esprit dès sa conception, celle qui naît est déjà la fille de Dieu et est appelée à être la Mère du Sauveur, le Fils unique de Dieu.
Antienne d’ouverture
Célébrons dans la joie la naissance de la Vierge Marie : par elle nous est venu le Soleil de justice, le Christ notre Dieu.
Prière d’ouverture
Ouvre à tes serviteurs, Dieu très bon, tes richesses de grâce ; puisque la maternité de la Vierge Marie fut pour nous le commencement du salut, que la fête de sa nativité nous apporte un surcroit de paix. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Mi 5, 1-4a
Parole du Seigneur : Toi, Bethléem Éphrata, le plus petit des clans de Juda, c’est de toi que sortira pour moi celui qui doit gouverner Israël. Ses origines remontent aux temps anciens, aux jours d’autrefois. Mais Dieu livrera son peuple jusqu’au jour où enfantera… celle qui doit enfanter, et ceux de ses frères qui resteront rejoindront les fils d’Israël. Il se dressera et il sera leur berger par la puissance du Seigneur, par la majesté du nom du Seigneur, son Dieu. Ils habiteront en sécurité, car désormais il sera grand jusqu’aux lointains de la terre, et lui-même, il sera la paix !

Dans son amour pour les hommes, que ton Fils unique vienne à notre secours, Seigneur ; puisque sa naissance n’a pas altéré mais a consacré la virginité de sa mère, qu’il nous délivre aujourd’hui de nos péchés et te rende agréable cette offrande. Lui qui.

Voici que la Vierge enfantera un fils; c’est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés.

Par cette communion, seigneur, tu refais les forces de ton Eglise ; donne-lui d’exulter de joie, heureuse de la nativité de la Vierge Marie qui fit lever sur le monde l’espérance et l’aurore du salut. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Aujourd’hui, l’Eglise nous invite à célébrer la Nativité de la Vierge Marie. La date du 8 septembre a contribué à déterminer la date de la fête de l’Immaculée Conception, le 8 décembre. Chaque naissance humaine est un appel à une nouvelle espérance dans le monde. L’amour de deux êtres humains rejoint Dieu dans son œuvre créatrice. C’est une source d’espoir dans un monde rempli de souffrance. Le nouvel enfant est l’un des canaux de l’amour et de la paix de Dieu dans le monde. Si Jésus est l’expression parfaite de l’amour de Dieu, Marie est la préfiguration de cet amour. Si Jésus a apporté la plénitude du salut, Marie en est l’aube. La célébration d’un anniversaire apporte du bonheur à la personne qui le célèbre, mais aussi à sa famille et à ses amis. Après la naissance de Jésus, la naissance de Marie offre le plus grand bonheur possible au monde. Chaque fois que nous célébrons sa naissance, nous pouvons espérer avec confiance un accroissement de la paix dans nos cœurs et dans le monde entier.

The Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Feast
The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.
Entrance Antiphon
Let us celebrate with joy the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for from her arose the sun of justice, Christ our God.

Meditation
Jesus had both sinners and saints in his own family line, and God used each of them for his own purpose. There is no perfect family. Jesus doesn’t expect any of us to be perfect, or to come from a perfect family. He expects us to be loyal to him. Loyalty to God is the common thread that was woven with love throughout every generation that led to Christ’s birth. God can draw a straight line with imperfect writing instruments. Today we celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In remembering her, we remind ourselves that God, in His grace, mystery, and love, has chosen to concern Himself with mankind so intimately as to come to us and make his home with us (John 14:23). While the Blessed Mary had the special privilege to be the temple of the Lord both physically and spiritually, we are reminded that God also calls everyone to the same grace of being his dwelling.

Il vit deux barques qui se trouvaient au bord du lac ; les pêcheurs en étaient descendus et lavaient leurs filets. Jésus monta dans une des barques qui appartenait à Simon, et lui demanda de s’écarter un peu du rivage. Puis il s’assit et, de la barque, il enseignait les foules. Quand il eut fini de parler, il dit à Simon : « Avance au large, et jetez vos filets pour la pêche. »Simon lui répondit: « Maître, nous avons peiné toute la nuit sans rien prendre ; mais, sur ta parole, je vais jeter les filets. » Et l’ayant fait, ils capturèrent une telle quantité de poissons que leurs filets allaient se déchirer. Ils firent signe à leurs compagnons de l’autre barque de venir les aider. Ceux-ci vinrent, et ils remplirent les deux barques, à tel point qu’elles enfonçaient. À cette vue, Simon-Pierre tomba aux genoux de Jésus, en disant : « Éloigne-toi de moi, Seigneur, car je suis un homme pécheur. » En effet, un grand effroi l’avait saisi, lui et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, devant la quantité de poissons qu’ils avaient pêchés; et de même Jacques et Jean, fils de Zébédée, les associés de Simon. Jésus dit à Simon : « Sois sans crainte, désormais ce sont des hommes que tu prendras. » Alors ils ramenèrent les barques au rivage et, laissant tout, ils le suivirent.

Méditation
« Avancez au large, et jetez vos filets pour la pêche. » Il semble ridicule et insultant pour un pêcheur de recevoir des instructions d’un charpentier sur un métier dont le premier devrait être un expert. Écouter Jésus reviendrait à céder toute autorité à celui qui n’en a aucune pour s’exprimer sur le sujet. Mais Pierre reste assez humble, écoute le Seigneur et obéit à ses instructions. Il remplit leur filet, se faisant connaître ainsi comme le Maître de l’univers, Celui qui commande aux poissons de la mer selon le Ps. 8:7 ; Ps 8.4-10, et qui peut tout là où l›homme ne peut rien. Saisi de crainte, convaincu pécheur en présence du Seigneur, Simon se jette à ses genoux en s’écriant : « Éloigne-toi de moi, Seigneur, car je suis un homme pécheur. » Mais, désormais, Pierre sera un pêcheur d’hommes comme nous le voyons dans le livre des Actes des Apôtres, devenu pêcheur d’une miraculeuse «prise» d’environ 3 000 âmes (Act. 2:41 — 2.37-41).

Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets.” And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear, so they signalled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, they filled the two boats to sinking point. When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, “Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.” For he and all his companions were completely overcome by the catch they had made; so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon’s partners. But Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on it is men you will catch.” Then, bringing their boats back to land, they left everything and followed him.

Meditation
Luke, in this Gospel passage, tells us how Jesus called His first disciples. He started by preaching to the people, using Peter’s boat as a pulpit. Then he turned to Peter and ordered him to step out into the deep and cast his net. Despite being the professional here, Peter obeyed Jesus, and the reward was very great – they had such a huge catch as they had never had before. Peter saw himself unworthy. This was an unmerited favour. Jesus then makes of him a fisher of men. At this, they left everything, even the huge catch and followed Jesus. Jesus is calling us today to be his disciple. It begins with allowing Him to take the lead in our lives as Peter did. We will experience his numerous blessings. Most often, we hold onto these blessings and turn away from the provider. Jesus is urging us to hold unto him the giver of all, and help to gather in the harvest. The only way to do it, is to let go of our attachments and turn to him.

Leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever and they asked him to do something for her. Leaning over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to wait on them. At sunset all those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them to him, and laying his hands on each he cured them. Devils too came out of many people, howling, “You are the Son of God.” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ. When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look for him, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them, but he answered, “I must proclaim the Good News of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, because that is what I was sent to do.” And he continued his preaching in the synagogues of Judaea.

Meditation
The healing of Peter’s mother in law by Jesus attracted a whole lot of people: those suffering from ailments and those possessed. Jesus healed the sick and delivered the possessed without any display of importance nor need for recognition. He even rebuked evil spirits who knew his identity and spoke of it, because his time had not come to reveal himself fully. Without losing focus, he still went to be alone with the Father, to reconnect and prepare himself to continue his mission. Even the insistence of the crowd could not make him lose focus. But what happens today when we use God-given talents with visible results? We become overtaken by fame, and we claim the glory upon ourselves. We forget our mission, and bath in short-lived glory. Our Christian mission is to journey to heaven, not alone, but with others. We are pilgrims on earth, focused on things above. The glory we will share in heaven is incomparable.

Or, la belle-mère de Simon était oppressée par une forte fièvre, et on demanda à Jésus de faire quelque chose pour elle. Il se pencha sur elle, menaça la fièvre, et la fièvre la quitta. À l’instant même, la femme se leva et elle les servait. Au coucher du soleil, tous ceux qui avaient des malades atteints de diverses infirmités les lui amenèrent. Et Jésus, imposant les mains à chacun d’eux, les guérissait. Et même des démons sortaient de beaucoup d’entre eux en criant : « C’est toi le Fils de Dieu!» Mais Jésus les menaçait et leur interdisait de parler parce qu’ils savaient, eux, que le Christ, c’était lui. Quand il fit jour, Jésus sortit et s’en alla dans un endroit désert. Les foules le cherchaient ; elles arrivèrent jusqu’à lui, et elles le retenaient pour l’empêcher de les quitter. Mais il leur dit : « Aux autres villes aussi, il faut que j’annonce la Bonne Nouvelle du règne de Dieu, car c’est pour cela que j’ai été envoyé. » Et il proclamait l’Évangile dans les synagogues du pays des Juifs.

Jésus est venu pour annoncer le salut aux pauvres, guérir les aveugles et libérer les opprimés. Aujourd’hui il guérit la belle-mère de Pierre de sa fièvre, il impose les mains et guérit les malades qu’on lui amène, il libère les possédés du diable et il ne se lasse pas d’aller de ville en ville «annoncer le royaume de Dieu». Au milieu de tout ce travail apostolique, il se donne des moments de prière dans un endroit isolé. Voilà un modèle de programme pour tout chrétien et surtout pour un apôtre. «Quand nous sortons de nos messes et services, sachons nous réserver un temps de prière personnelle. Jésus va de village en village. Il ne s’installe pas. De la sorte, il nous invite à éviter deux dangers : l’activisme avec négligence de la prière, et la tentation de rester dans le milieu où nous sommes bien accueillis, oubliant l’universalité de notre mission.
