St. Brigid (451? – 525)
She was born in 451 or 452 at Faughart, near Dundalk, in Ireland. Her name is that of the pagan goddess of fire. She converted to Christanity, inspired by the preaching of St. Patrick. She founded a double monastery, of monks and nuns, at Kildare, the first women’s monastic community in Ireland, and she died there in 525.

First Reading: Hebrews 11:32-40
Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets – these were men who through faith conquered kingdoms, did what is right and earned the promises. They could keep a lion’s mouth shut, put out blazing fires and emerge unscathed from battle. They were weak people who were given strength, to be brave in war and drive back foreign invaders. Some came back to their wives from the dead, by resurrection; and others submitted to torture, refusing release so that they would rise again to a better life. Some had to bear being pilloried and flogged, or even chained up in prison. They were stoned, or sawn in half, or beheaded; they were homeless, and dressed in the skins of sheep and goats; they were penniless and were given nothing but ill-treatment. They were too good for the world and they went out to live in deserts and mountains and in caves and ravines. These are all heroes of faith, but they did not receive what was promised, since God had made provision for us to have something better, and they were not to reach perfection except with us.

Jesus and his disciples reached the country of the Gerasenes on the other side of the lake, and no sooner had Jesus left the boat than a man with an unclean spirit came out from the tombs towards him. The man lived in the tombs and no one could secure him any more, even with a chain; because he had often been secured with fetters and chains but had snapped the chains and broken the fetters, and no one had the strength to control him. All night and all day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he would howl and gash himself with stones. Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and fell at his feet and shouted at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? Swear by God you will not torture me!’ – for Jesus had been saying to him, ‘Come out of the man, unclean spirit.’ ‘What is your name?’ Jesus asked. ‘My name is legion,’ he answered, ‘for there are many of us.’ And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the district. And those who had witnessed it reported what had happened to the demoniac and what had become of the pigs. Then they began to implore Jesus to leave the neighbourhood. As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to be allowed to stay with him. Jesus would not let him but said to him, ‘Go home to your people and tell them all that the Lord in his mercy has done for you.’ So the man went off and proceeded to spread throughout the Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him. And everyone was amazed.

O Lord, we bring to your altar these offerings of our service: be pleased to receive them, we pray, and transform them into the Sacrament of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord.

Every human attempt to chain the evil one would always prove futile. As seen in the gospel, nothing could keep the (possessed) man down. Nothing but the power of God. Once our human effort to resist sin is not drawn from God’s power, we cannot do much. Nothing stands above the salvation of man, not even your prized possessions. This is seen in the loss of the herds of pigs. This gesture shows us that the dignity and wellbeing of man comes first. Our world leaders need to understand this and not place things over man.

1. Venez, crions de joie pour le Seigneur, acclamons notre Rocher, notre salut ! Allons jusqu’à lui en rendant grâce, par nos hymnes de fête acclamons-le !
2. Entrez, inclinez-vous, prosternez-vous, adorons le Seigneur qui nous a faits. Oui, il est notre Dieu ; nous sommes le peuple qu’il conduit le troupeau guidé par sa main.

Deuxième lecture : 1 Co 7, 32-35
Frères, j’aimerais vous voir libres de tout souci. Celui qui n’est pas marié a le souci des affaires du Seigneur, il cherche comment plaire au Seigneur. Celui qui est marié a le souci des affaires de ce monde, il cherche comment plaire à sa femme, et il se trouve divisé. La femme sans mari, ou celle qui reste vierge, a le souci des affaires du Seigneur, afin d’être sanctifiée dans son corps et son esprit. Celle qui est mariée a le souci des affaires de ce monde, elle cherche comment plaire à son mari. C’est dans votre intérêt que je dis cela ; ce n’est pas pour vous tendre un piège, mais pour vous proposer ce qui est bien, afin que vous soyez attachés au Seigneur sans partage.
Alléluia. Alléluia. Le peuple qui habitait dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière. Sur ceux qui habitaient dans le pays et l’ombre de la mort, une lumière s’est levée. Alléluia. (Mt 4, 16)
Jésus et ses disciples entrèrent à Capharnaüm. Aussitôt, le jour du sabbat, il se rendit à la synagogue, et là, il enseignait. On était frappé par son enseignement, car il enseignait en homme qui a autorité, et non pas comme les scribes. Or, il y avait dans leur synagogue un homme tourmenté par un esprit impur, qui se mit à crier : « Que nous veux-tu, Jésus de Nazareth ? Es-tu venu pour nous perdre ? Je sais qui tu es : tu es le Saint de Dieu. » Jésus l’interpella vivement : « Tais-toi ! Sors de cet homme. » L’esprit impur le fit entrer en convulsions, puis, poussant un grand cri, sortit de lui. Ils furent tous frappés de stupeur et se demandaient entre eux : « Qu’est-ce que cela veut dire ? Voilà un enseignement nouveau, donné avec autorité ! Il commande même aux esprits impurs, et ils lui obéissent. » Sa renommée se répandit aussitôt partout, dans toute la région de la Galilée.
Que ton Esprit, Seigneur notre Dieu, nous donne, dans cette eucharistie, la lumière de la foi qui éclairait l’Apôtre Paul quand il annonçait ta gloire aux nations païennes. Par Jésus .

Prière après la communion
Que cette communion, Seigneur notre Dieu, entretienne en nous la charité qui brûlait au cœur de l’Apôtre Paul et lui donnait un souci passionné de toutes les Eglises. Par Jésus.
Le jour du shabbat Jésus se rend aussitôt à la Synagogue pour enseigner. Voici le réflexe de l’oint de Dieu. Se rendre dans le Sanctuaire pour rencontrer Dieu dans sa Parole. Nous, fidèles du Christ, sommes appelés à fréquenter avec action de grâce et reconnaissance les lieux privilégiés de la présence de Dieu. Pendant des moments de voyages ou d’autres formes de déplacements, il arrive que certains chrétiens oublient ce devoir fondamental de chercher les lieux de cultes afin de rendre grâce à Dieu et écouter sa Parole. Il est bon d’imiter cette attitude du Christ en cherchant à identifier nos églises lorsque nous arrivons nouvellement dans une ville ou un quartier. En le faisant, nous prenons en même temps l’engagement de rendre visite au Saint-Sacrement de façon régulière.

I would like to see you free from all worry. An unmarried man can devote himself to the Lord’s affairs, all he need worry about is pleasing the Lord; but a married man has to bother about the world’s affairs and devote himself to pleasing his wife: he is torn two ways. In the same way an unmarried woman, like a young girl, can devote herself to the Lord’s affairs; all she need worry about is being holy in body and spirit. The married woman, on the other hand, has to worry about the world’s affairs and devote herself to pleasing her husband. I say this only to help you, not to put a halter round your necks, but simply to make sure that everything is as it should be, and that you give your undivided attention to the Lord.

I know who you are: the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus said sharply, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!’ And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him. Meditation
Yesterday, Jesus showed his powers over nature. Today he shows his power over other spiritual beings especially over evil. We are once again reminded of the power of Christ over everything seen and unseen. Let us place our trust in him and have faith that he will set us free.

St. Aedan of Ferns (c.550 – 632)
He was the son of an Irish tribal chieftain and studied under St. Finian and St. David. He was the first bishop of Ferns, in Ireland, and founded many churches and monasteries.

First reading : Hebrews 11:1-2,8-19
Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen. It was for faith that our ancestors were commended. It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants, and that he set out without knowing where he was going. By faith he arrived, as a foreigner, in the Promised Land, and lived there as if in a strange country, with Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. They lived there in tents while he looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God. It was equally by faith that Sarah, in spite of being past the age, was made able to conceive, because she believed that he who had made the promise would be faithful to it. Because of this, there came from one man, and one who was already as good as dead himself, more descendants than could be counted, as many as the stars of heaven or the grains of sand on the seashore. All these died in faith, before receiving any of the things that had been promised, but they saw them in the far distance and welcomed them, recognising that they were only strangers and nomads on earth. People who use such terms about themselves make it quite plain that they are in search of their real homeland. They can hardly have meant the country they came from, since they had the opportunity to go back to it; but in fact they were longing for a better homeland, their heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, since he has founded the city for them. It was by faith that Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac. He offered to sacrifice his only son even though the promises had been made to him and he had been told: It is through Isaac that your name will be carried on. He was confident that God had the power even to raise the dead; and so, figuratively speaking, he was given back Isaac from the dead.

R/ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! He has visited his people and redeemed them.
- He has raised up for us a mighty saviour in the house of David his servant, as he promised by the lips of holy men, those who were his prophets from of old.
- A saviour who would free us from our foes, from the hands of all who hate us. So his love for our fathers is fulfilled and his holy covenant remembered.
- He swore to Abraham our father to grant us that free from fear, and saved from the hands of our foes,we might serve him in holiness and justice all the days of our life in his presence.

Meditation
The calmness of Christ in a rocking boat fills his disciples with worry, They think he cares little about them, they probably expect him to join them in their anxiety. Rather, Jesus wakes up and rebukes the wind and the sea, ordering them to be quiet and calm. This act of Jesus indicates that he has authority over land and sea and the forces of the universe. Do I recognise Jesus as such? How often do I invite Jesus to calm the storms in my life? Do I believe he can do it for me?

Vierge martyre à Rome. Fille de nobles romains son père fut plusieurs fois consul. À la mort de ce dernier, elle vendit tous ses biens et consacra cette fortune à des œuvres de charité. Elle vécut sous le règne de l’empereur Alexandre devant qui elle refusa de renier sa foi et fut ainsi décapitée à Rome. Ses reliques furent découvertes en 1634.

Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, dirige notre vie selon ton amour, Afin qu’au nom de ton Fils bien-aimé, nous portions des fruits en abondance. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture : He 11, 1-2.8-19
Frères, la foi est une façon de posséder ce que l’on espère, un moyen de connaître des réalités qu’on ne voit pas. Et quand l’Écriture rend témoignage aux anciens, c’est à cause de leur foi. Grâce à la foi, Abraham obéit à l’appel de Dieu : il partit vers un pays qu’il devait recevoir en héritage, et il partit sans savoir où il allait. Grâce à la foi, il vint séjourner en immigré dans la Terre promise, comme en terre étrangère ; il vivait sous la tente, ainsi qu’Isaac et Jacob, héritiers de la même promesse, car il attendait la ville qui aurait de vraies fondations, la ville dont Dieu lui-même est le bâtisseur et l’architecte. Grâce à la foi, Sara, elle aussi, malgré son âge, fut rendue capable d’être à l’origine d’une descendance parce qu’elle pensait que Dieu est fidèle à ses promesses. C’est pourquoi, d’un seul homme, déjà marqué par la mort, a pu naître une descendance aussi nombreuse que les étoiles du ciel et que le sable au bord de la mer, une multitude innombrable. C’est dans la foi, sans avoir connu la réalisation des promesses, qu’ils sont tous morts ; mais ils l’avaient vue et saluée de loin, affirmant que, sur la terre, ils étaient des étrangers et des voyageurs. Or, parler ainsi, c’est montrer clairement qu’on est à la recherche d’une patrie. S’ils avaient songé à celle qu’ils avaient quittée, ils auraient eu la possibilité d’y revenir. En fait, ils aspiraient à une patrie meilleure, celle des cieux. Aussi Dieu n’a pas honte d’être appelé leur Dieu, puisqu’il leur a préparé une ville. Grâce à la foi, quand il fut soumis à l’épreuve, Abraham offrit Isaac en sacrifice. Et il offrait le fils unique, alors qu’il avait reçu les promesses et entendu cette parole : C’est par Isaac qu’une descendance portera ton nom. Il pensait en effet que Dieu est capable même de ressusciter les morts ; c’est pourquoi son fils lui fut rendu : il y a là une préfiguration.

Ce jour-là, le soir venu, Jésus dit à ses disciples : « Passons sur l’autre rive. » Quittant la foule, ils emmenèrent Jésus, comme il était, dans la barque, et d’autres barques l’accompagnaient. Survient une violente tempête. Les vagues se jetaient sur la barque, si bien que déjà elle se remplissait. Lui dormait sur le coussin à l’arrière. Les disciples le réveillent et lui disent : « Maître, nous sommes perdus ; cela ne te fait rien ? » Réveillé, il menaça le vent et dit à la mer : « Silence, tais-toi ! » Le vent tomba, et il se fit un grand calme. Jésus leur dit : « Pourquoi êtes-vous si craintifs ? N’avez-vous pas encore la foi ? » Saisis d’une grande crainte, ils se disaient entre eux : « Qui est-il donc, celui-ci, pour que même le vent et la mer lui obéissent ? »
Dans ta bonté, Seigneur, accepte notre offrande: Qu’elle soit sanctifiée et serve ainsi à notre salut. Par Jésus.

Ensemble, approchez du Seigneur: resplendissez de sa lumière et sur votre visage il n’y aura plus d’ombre.
Prière après la communion
Permets, nous t’en prions, Dieu tout-puissant, Qu’ayant reçu de toi la grâce d’une nouvelle vie, nous puissions nous en émerveiller toujours. Par Jésus.
Passer sur l’autre rive est une manière de se confronter à d’autres épreuves qui nous attendent sur notre chemin de sainteté. Il y a toujours des situations dans la vie où notre foi est appelée à être mise à rude épreuve. Ce faisant, la présence du Christ dans la barque de notre trajectoire existentielle devrait à elle seule suffire à nous redonner sérénité et paix. Le Christ est toujours à l’œuvre dans nos vies. Jamais il ne nous abandonne. Et lorsque nous avons l’impression qu’il est emporté dans un sommeil, son réveil nous rappelle que jamais il ne nous laisse périr. La foi devra toujours être demandée dans la prière de tous les fidèles du Christ car, elle nous aide à garder la sérénité quelques soient les circonstances que nous traversons.

Bl Archangela Girlani (1460-1495)
Blessed Archangela Girlani was born Eleanor Girlani in 1460 at Trino, in northern Italy, to a noble family. At age seventeen, she, along with her two sisters, Maria and Frances, took the Carmelite habit in the monastery at Parma. Eleanor took the religious name Archangela. She later become prioress of the monastery at Parma, and then prioress at a new foundation at Mantua in 1492. She died at Mantua in January 1495 in her third year as prioress there. Apart from her role of service to the monasteries in which she was prioress, Archangela’s Carmelite life is remembered as one permeated by strivings in the mystical life of prayer. Her frequent prayer was “Jesus, my Love.”

Meditation
When we lead authentic and transparent lives after the example of Jesus himself, we positively influence those around us and spread the kingdom of God in an unconscious manner. Using the example of a sower who plants a seed and it grows without his monitoring it and the example of a mustard seed, the smallest of seeds, which grows into the biggest shrub, Jesus invites us to engage in little acts of goodness, for by so doing, we contribute to spreading of the kingdom of God.

Saint Gildas ; Saint Valère
Saint Gildas (+570) dit « Le Sage », est né dans l’île de Bretagne. Il fonda l’abbaye de Rhuys qui a conservé son tombeau et développé son culte. Il promeut dans ses écrits la vie monastique, et des fragments de lettres indiquent qu’il aurait également rédigé une règle monacale moins austère que celle de son contemporain saint David.

1ère lecture : He 10, 32-39
Frères, souvenez-vous de ces premiers jours où vous veniez de recevoir la lumière du Christ : vous avez soutenu alors le dur combat des souffrances, tantôt donnés en spectacle sous les insultes et les brimades, tantôt solidaires de ceux qu’on traitait ainsi. En effet, vous avez montré de la compassion à ceux qui étaient en prison ; vous avez accepté avec joie qu’on vous arrache vos biens, car vous étiez sûrs de posséder un bien encore meilleur, et permanent. Ne perdez pas votre assurance ; grâce à elle, vous serez largement récompensés. Car l’endurance vous est nécessaire pour accomplir la volonté de Dieu et obtenir ainsi la réalisation des promesses. En effet, encore un peu, très peu de temps, et celui qui doit venir arrivera, il ne tardera pas. Celui qui est juste à mes yeux par la foi vivra ; mais s’il abandonne, je ne trouve plus mon bonheur en lui. Or nous ne sommes pas, nous, de ceux qui abandonnent et vont à leur perte, mais de ceux qui ont la foi et sauvegardent leur âme.

1. Fais confiance au Seigneur, agis bien, habite la terre et reste fidèle ; mets ta joie dans le Seigneur : il comblera les désirs de ton cœur.
2. Dirige ton chemin vers le Seigneur, fais-lui confiance, et lui, il agira. Il fera lever comme le jour ta justice, et ton droit comme le plein midi.

Et dès que le blé est mûr, il y met la faucille, puisque le temps de la moisson est arrivé. » Il disait encore : « À quoi allons-nous comparer le règne de Dieu ? Par quelle parabole pouvons-nous le représenter ? Il est comme une graine de moutarde : quand on la sème en terre, elle est la plus petite de toutes les semences. Mais quand on l’a semée, elle grandit et dépasse toutes les plantes potagères ; et elle étend de longues branches, si bien que les oiseaux du ciel peuvent faire leur nid à son ombre. » Par de nombreuses paraboles semblables, Jésus leur annonçait la Parole, dans la mesure où ils étaient capables de l’entendre. Il ne leur disait rien sans parabole, mais il expliquait tout à ses disciples en particulier.
Dans ta bonté, Seigneur, accepte notre offrande: Qu’elle soit sanctifiée et serve ainsi à notre salut. Par Jésus.

La dimension germinale de toute vie chrétienne réside en sa capacité à tirer de l’existence des ressorts parfois insoupçonnés de forces capables de nous faire avancer vers notre destinée en Dieu. Toute vie a en soi des puissances qu’on ne saurait d’emblée imaginer mais qui se découvrent au fur et à mesure que les évènements historiques nous emmènent à mieux en cerner les contours. Lorsque nous accueillons le Royaume de Dieu, des possibilités immenses d’avenir s’ouvrent à nous et nous plongent dans une atmosphère d’espérance sans cesse renouvelée et inépuisable. En Dieu, tout devient possible, rien ne saurait mettre un terme à la loi inhérente de croissance et de libération que l’on expérimente avec lui.

Saint Thomas d’Aquin, prêtre et docteur de l’Église
Né dans une noble famille napolitaine et élevé à l’abbaye bénédictine du Mont-Cassin, Thomas choisit à 19 ans d’entrer chez les Frères Prêcheurs. Il est l’auteur de la Somme Théologique, ouvrage dans lequel il met en œuvre la leçon de Saint Albert le Grand selon laquelle il faut faire confiance à la raison et à l’intelligence de l’homme pour chercher Dieu. Il meurt sur la route, en chemin vers Lyon où il devait participer au grand Concile de 1274.

Dieu qui as fait de saint Thomas d’Aquin un modèle admirable par sa recherche d’une vie sainte et son amour de la science sacrée, accorde-nous de comprendre ses enseignements et de suivre ses exemples. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture : He 10, 19-25
Frères, c’est avec assurance que nous pouvons entrer dans le véritable sanctuaire grâce au sang de Jésus : nous avons là un chemin nouveau et vivant qu’il a inauguré en franchissant le rideau du Sanctuaire ; or, ce rideau est sa chair. Et nous avons le prêtre par excellence, celui qui est établi sur la maison de Dieu. Avançons-nous donc vers Dieu avec un cœur sincère et dans la plénitude de la foi, le cœur purifié de ce qui souille notre conscience, le corps lavé par une eau pure. Continuons sans fléchir d’affirmer notre espérance, car il est fidèle, celui qui a promis. Soyons attentifs les uns aux autres pour nous stimuler à vivre dans l’amour et à bien agir. Ne délaissons pas nos assemblées, comme certains en ont pris l’habitude, mais encourageons-nous, d’autant plus que vous voyez s’approcher le Jour du Seigneur.
R/ Voici le peuple qui cherche le Seigneur
1. Au Seigneur, le monde et sa richesse, la terre et tous ses habitants ! C’est lui qui l’a fondée sur les mers et la garde inébranlable sur les flots.
2. Qui peut gravir la montagne du Seigneur et se tenir dans le lieu saint ? L’homme au cœur pur, aux mains innocentes, qui ne livre pas son âme aux idoles (et ne dit pas de faux serments)
3. Il obtient, du Seigneur, la bénédiction, et de Dieu son Sauveur, la justice. Voici le peuple de ceux qui le cherchent! Voici Jacob qui recherche ta face !

Si quelqu’un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende ! » Il leur disait encore: « Faites attention à ce que vous entendez! La mesure que vous utilisez sera utilisée aussi pour vous, et il vous sera donné encore plus. Car celui qui a, on lui donnera; celui qui n’a pas, on lui enlèvera même ce qu’il a. »
Regarde, Seigneur, les offrandes que nous te présentons en la fête de saint Thomas d’Aquin ; que la confession de ta vérité conduise au salut ceux qui gardent la même foi que lui. Par Jésus.
« Ce n’est pas vous qui m’avez choisi, dit le Seigneur c’est moi qui vous ai choisis. Je vous ai mis à cette place afin que vous partiez, que vous donniez du fruit, et que votre fruit demeure. »

Nous t’en prions, Dieu tout-puissant: puisque nous confessons, avec saint Thomas d’Aquin, que Jésus est vraiment Dieu, fais que la divinité de ton Fils unique nous apporte, dans cette communion, la vie et la force pour toujours. Lui qui.
« Si quelqu’un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende ! ». Des oreilles pour ne pas entendre existent-elles ? Certes oui à en croire les mots de Jésus. Il peut y arriver que certains fidèles décident délibérément de boucher leurs oreilles à toutes formes d’invitation à la conversion et à la réconciliation. Ces attitudes en effet font des oreilles des organes qui n’entendent pas, non pas parce qu’elles ne correspondent pas à leur être, mais plutôt parce qu’elles ont décidé de se fermer à la Grâce divine qui pourtant renouvelle nos sens à la vraie connaissance des réalités terrestres et célestes.

Sainte Angèle Merici, vierge
L’humanisme païen de la Renaissance avait engendré le relâchement des mœurs. Une laïque chrétienne comprit que, pour remédier à cette situation, il fallait former des femmes capables de répandre l’esprit de l’Evangile dans leurs foyers. Après des années passées dans la prière et le dévouement, Angèle Merici (vers 1470-1540), âgée de 65 ans environ, fonda à Brescia l’Institut des Ursulines. Pour assurer la totale disponibilité des religieuses, elle ne voulait pas de clôture, elle souhaitait peu de vie commune et une adaptation périodique de la règle. Sa pédagogie peut être résumée en cette consigne qu’elle donnait aux éducatrices : « attirer les jeunes filles avec amour ».

Première lecture : He 10, 11-28
Tout prêtre, chaque jour, se tenait debout dans le Lieu saint pour le service liturgique, et il offrait à maintes reprises les mêmes sacrifices, qui ne peuvent jamais enlever les péchés. Jésus Christ, au contraire, après avoir offert pour les péchés un unique sacrifice, s’est assis pour toujours à la droite de Dieu. Il attend désormais que ses ennemis soient mis sous ses pieds. Par son unique offrande, il a mené pour toujours à leur perfection ceux qu’il sanctifie. L’Esprit Saint, lui aussi, nous l’atteste dans l’Écriture, car, après avoir dit: Voici quelle sera l’Alliance que j’établirai avec eux quand ces jours-là seront passés, le Seigneur dit : Quand je leur donnerai mes lois, je les inscrirai sur leurs cœurs et dans leur pensée et je ne me rappellerai plus leurs péchés ni leurs fautes. Or, quand le pardon est accordé, on n’offre plus le sacrifice pour le péché.

1. Oracle du Seigneur à mon seigneur: « Siège à ma droite, et je ferai de tes ennemis le marchepied de ton trône. »

Jésus se mit de nouveau à enseigner au bord de la mer de Galilée. Une foule très nombreuse se rassembla auprès de lui, si bien qu’il monta dans une barque où il s’assit. Il était sur la mer, et toute la foule était près de la mer, sur le rivage. Il leur enseignait beaucoup de choses en paraboles, et dans son enseignement il leur disait: « Écoutez! Voici que le semeur sortit pour semer. Du grain est tombé aussi sur du sol pierreux, où il n’avait pas beaucoup de terre ; il a levé aussitôt, parce que la terre était peu profonde ; et lorsque le soleil s’est levé, ce grain a brûlé et, faute de racines, il a séché. Du grain est tombé aussi dans les ronces, les ronces ont poussé, l’ont étouffé, et il n’a pas donné de fruit. Mais d’autres grains sont tombés dans la bonne terre; ils ont donné du fruit en poussant et en se développant, et ils ont produit trente, soixante, cent, pour un.»Et Jésus disait: «Celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende ! » Quand il resta seul, ceux qui étaient autour de lui avec les Douze l’interrogeaient sur les paraboles. Il leur disait : « C’est à vous qu’est donné le mystère du royaume de Dieu ; mais à ceux qui sont dehors, tout se présente sous forme de paraboles. Et ainsi, comme dit le prophète : Ils auront beau regarder de tous leurs yeux, ils ne verront pas ; ils auront beau écouter de toutes leurs oreilles, ils ne comprendront pas ; sinon ils se convertiraient et recevraient le pardon. » Il leur dit encore : « Vous ne saisissez pas cette parabole ? Alors, comment comprendrez-vous toutes les paraboles? Le semeur sème la Parole. Il y a ceux qui sont au bord du chemin où la Parole est semée : quand ils l’entendent, Satan vient aussitôt et enlève la Parole semée en eux. Et de même, il y a ceux qui ont reçu la semence dans les endroits pierreux : ceux-là, quand ils entendent la Parole, ils la reçoivent aussitôt avec joie; mais ils n’ont pas en eux de racine, ce sont les gens d’un moment ; que vienne la détresse ou la persécution à cause de la Parole, ils trébuchent aussitôt. Et il y en a d’autres qui ont reçu la semence dans les ronces : ceux-ci entendent la Parole, mais les soucis du monde, la séduction de la richesse et toutes les autres convoitises les envahissent et étouffent la Parole, qui ne donne pas de fruit. Et il y a ceux qui ont reçu la semence dans la bonne terre : ceux-là entendent la Parole, ils l’accueillent, et ils portent du fruit : trente, soixante, cent, pour un. »

La fécondité spirituelle caractérise ceux qui reçoivent la semence dans la bonne terre, car ils portent du fruit: trente, soixante, cent pour un. La terre à préparer pourrait renvoyer au type d’éducation de base que nous avons chacun reçue. Cette terre-éducation doit devenir terre d’évangile, docile au souffle du Saint-Esprit et capable de nous faire prendre des options radicales de vie avec Dieu. Le Christ nous invite à nourrir nos terres infertiles aux sels minéraux de l’amour, du pardon et de la joie. De telles terres sont nécessairement fécondes puisque ouvertes à la vie. Certains éléments culturels et historiques pourraient aussi appauvrir le sol de notre vie chrétienne. Voilà pourquoi il nous faut prendre des engagements résolus de laisser à Dieu le soin de mettre de l’ordre dans nos vies.
