Il travailla à affermir la foi en combattant l’arianisme qui professait que si le Christ était parfait, en revanche il n’était pas divin. Son mérite fut d’avoir maintenu le mystère de la Sainte Trinité contre ceux qui tentaient de faire de la doctrine chrétienne un monothéisme à moitié rationaliste, acceptable par tous sans doute, mais éloigné des paroles du Christ lui-même dans leur interprétation fondamentale.

Première lecture : Jérémie 20, 10-13

Allons le dénoncer, celui-là, l’Épouvante-de-tous-côtés. » Tous mes amis guettent mes faux pas, ils disent : « Peut-être se laissera-t-il séduire… Nous réussirons, et nous prendrons sur lui notre revanche!» Mais le Seigneur est avec moi, tel un guerrier redoutable : mes persécuteurs trébucheront, ils ne réussiront pas. Leur défaite les couvrira de honte, d’une confusion éternelle, inoubliable. Seigneur de l’univers, toi qui scrutes l’homme juste, toi qui vois les reins et les cœurs, fais-moi voir la revanche que tu leur infligeras, car c’est à toi que j’ai remis ma cause. Évangile : Jean 10, 31-42
En ce temps-là, de nouveau, des Juifs prient des pierres pour lapider Jésus. Celui-ci reprit la parole : « J’ai multiplié sous vos yeux les œuvres bonnes qui viennent du Père. Pour laquelle de ces œuvres voulez-vous me lapider ? » Ils lui répondirent: «Ce n’est pas pour une œuvre bonne que nous voulons te lapider, mais c’est pour un blasphème: tu n’es qu’un homme, et tu te fais Dieu. » Jésus leur répliqua : «N’est-il pas écrit dans votre Loi : J’ai dit: Vous êtes des dieux ? Elle les appelle donc des dieux, ceux à qui la parole de Dieu s’adressait, et l’Écriture ne peut pas être abolie. Or, celui que le Père a consacré et envoyé dans le monde, vous lui dites: “Tu blasphèmes”, parce que j’ai dit : “Je suis le Fils de Dieu”. Si je ne fais pas les œuvres de mon Père, continuez à ne pas me croire. Mais si je les fais, même si vous ne me croyez pas, croyez les œuvres. Ainsi vous reconnaîtrez, et de plus en plus, que le Père est en moi, et moi dans le Père. » Eux cherchaient de nouveau à l’arrêter, mais il échappa à leurs mains. Il repartit de l’autre côté du Jourdain, à l’endroit où, au début, Jean baptisait ; et il y demeura. Beaucoup vinrent à lui en déclarant : « Jean n’a pas accompli de signe ; mais tout ce que Jean a dit de celui-ci était vrai. » Et là, beaucoup crurent en lui.

Dieu de bonté, accorde-nous de pouvoir toujours te servir en approchant de ton autel, et de trouver le salut en participant à son mystère. Par Jésus.
Antienne de communion : 1P 2, 24
Dans son corps, le Christ a porté nos péchés sur le bois de la croix, afin que nous puissions mourir à nos péchés et vivre selon la justice: c’est par ses blessures que vous avez été guéris.
Prière après la communion
Que la force de cette communion, Seigneur, ne nous abandonne jamais ; qu’elle écarte loin de nous tout ce qui pourrait nous perdre. Par Jésus.
MÉDITATION
Les œuvres de Jésus parlent de Lui et de la foi à laquelle il convie les hommes. Ceux qui croient deviennent des fils de Dieu, des fils de la Lumière. Jésus contrarie ses accusateurs qui refusent sa personne et ses œuvres. Ceux-ci voient en Lui un blasphémateur qu’il faut vouer à la mort. Cependant, Jésus dévoile le plan du Père, Lui qui montre la direction aux hommes par les œuvres qu’il accomplit. En général, l’homme de Dieu se fait remarquer par la qualité de ses œuvres. Il n’est pas très souvent le bienvenu dans les milieux où le mal a pris le dessus sur la vérité. Implorons le courage de Jérémie qui a tenu devant des systèmes de manipulation et de mensonge, aux intérêts égoïstes. Seigneur protège nous d’être entraîné aujourd’hui par les jeux de la manipulation ourdie par le mal.

St Zeno of Verona (d. 371)
Zeno, a native of North Africa, was appointed bishop of Verona (Northern Italy) in 362. He preached much against Arianism and fostered the growth of missionary activity in his area. He died in 371.

Meditation
The works of Jesus speak of Him and the faith to which He invites men. Those who believe become sons of God, sons of the Light. Jesus opposes his accusers who refuse his person and his works. They see in Him a blasphemer who must be committed to death. However, Jesus reveals the plan of the Father through the works he performs. Any God-fearing person stands out by the quality of the works he does. Such person is generally not welcome in circles where evil has replaced the truth. Let us implore the courage of Jeremiah, who stood firm before systems of manipulation, lies and selfish interests. Lord, protect us from being dragged today into the games of manipulation wrought by evil.

Saint Stanislas, évêque et martyr
Fils d’une riche famille polonaise, Stanislas (1030-1079) distribue ses biens aux pauvres. Évêque de Cracovie en 1072, il entre en conflit avec Boleslas II, monarque injuste et débauché, dont il dénonce les fautes pour défendre le peuple opprimé. Quand il doit en venir à excommunier le roi, celui-ci le tue de sa main, alors que l’évêque célébrait la messe. Stanislas est un des patrons de la Pologne.

Le Christ est le médiateur d’une alliance nouvelle : puisqu’il est mort pour le rachat des fautes commises sous l’ancienne Alliance, ceux qui sont appelés peuvent recevoir l’héritage éternel déjà promis.

Abraham est mort, les prophètes aussi, et toi, tu dis : “Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne connaîtra jamais la mort. Es-tu donc plus grand que notre père Abraham ? Il est mort, et les prophètes aussi sont morts. Pour qui te prends-tu ? » Jésus répondit: « Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n’est rien ; c’est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui dont vous dites : “Il est notre Dieu”, alors que vous ne le connaissez pas. Moi, je le connais et si je dis que je ne le connais pas, je serai comme vous, un menteur. Mais je le connais, et sa parole, je la garde. Abraham votre père a exulté, sachant qu’il verrait mon Jour. Il l’a vu, et il s’est réjoui.». Les Juifs lui dirent alors : « Toi qui n’as pas encore cinquante ans, tu as vu Abraham ! » Jésus leur répondit : «Amen, amen, je vous le dis : avant qu’Abraham fût, moi, JE SUIS. » Alors ils ramassèrent des pierres pour les lui jeter. Mais Jésus, en se cachant, sortit du Temple.

MÉDITATION
Jésus inquiète ses interlocuteurs en leur avouant qu’Abraham s’est réjoui de sa venue dans le monde. Comment peut-il le justifier ? «Avant qu’Abraham fût, moi, JE SUIS ». Cette réponse déroutante, est incompréhensible pour les Juifs qui écoutent Jésus. Il faut retenir de cet épisode que Jésus reste un mystère qui se révèle par la parole. Cette parole est l’essence qui nourrit notre foi. Nous sommes fils d’Abraham, par la filiation de l’Archi-fils qui est la Parole éternelle. En nous nourrissant de cette parole, nous entrons dans la volonté du Père qui nous invite à demeurer en Lui.

St Stanisław (1036 – 1079)
He was born in Poland in 1036. He became bishop of Krakow 1072. He ruled the church as a good shepherd and gave help to the poor. He was murdered as he was celebrating Mass on 8 May 1079.

Meditation
Jesus worries his interlocutors by admitting to them that Abraham rejoiced at his coming into the world. How can he justify it? “Before Abraham ever was, I AM”. This confusing answer is incomprehensible to the Jews who listen to Jesus. It must be remembered from this episode that Jesus remains a mystery that is revealed by the Word. This Word is the essence that nourishes our faith. We are sons of Abraham, by the filiation of the “Arch-son” who is the “Eternal Word”. By nourishing ourselves with this word, we enter into the will of the Father who invites us to abide in Him.

Meditation
Jesus’ dialogue with the Jewish crowd revolves around the unique sonship of Abraham’s sons. Jesus tells them that their identity as descendants of Abraham only has meaning if they acknowledge the truth about God’s message, and this truth lies in Jesus. Each one of us is called to know the truth about the Son of Man. Knowing the truth about Jesus brings liberation from ignorance and sin, because lies imprison man and make him a disciple of Evil. Let us take the side of truth and trust like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who refuse to disobey the Lord’s prescriptions. Remaining faithful to the truth leads us to a life that does not end.

En ces jours-là, le roi Nabucodonosor parla ainsi : « Est-il vrai, Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago,que vous refusez de servir mes dieux et d’adorer la statue d’or que j’ai fait ériger ? Êtes-vous prêts, maintenant, à vous prosterner pour adorer la statue que j’ai faite, quand vous entendrez le son du cor, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la harpe, de la lyre, de la cornemuse et de toutes les sortes d’instruments ? Si vous n’adorez pas cette statue, vous serez immédiatement jetés dans la fournaise de feu ardent ; et quel est le dieu qui vous délivrera de ma main ? » Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago dirent au roi Nabucodonosor : « Ce n’est pas à nous de te répondre. Si notre Dieu, que nous servons, peut nous délivrer, il nous délivrera de la fournaise de feu ardent et de ta main, ô roi. Et même s’il ne le fait pas, sois-en bien sûr, ô roi : nous ne servirons pas tes dieux, nous n’adorerons pas la statue d’or que tu as érigée. » Alors Nabucodonosor fut rempli de fureur contre Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago, et son visage s’altéra. Il ordonna de chauffer la fournaise sept fois plus qu’à l’ordinaire. Puis il ordonna aux plus vigoureux de ses soldats de ligoter Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago et de les jeter dans la fournaise de feu ardent. Le roi Nabucodonosor les entendit chanter. Stupéfait, il se leva précipitamment et dit à ses conseillers « Nous avons bien jeté trois hommes, ligotés, au milieu du feu ? » Ils répondirent: «Assurément, ô roi. » Il reprit : « Eh bien moi, je vois quatre hommes qui se promènent librement au milieu du feu, ils sont parfaitement indemnes, et le quatrième ressemble à un être divin. » Et Nabucodonosor s’écria: «Béni soit le Dieu de Sidrac, Misac et Abdénago, qui a envoyé son ange et délivré ses serviteurs ! Ils ont mis leur confiance en lui, et ils ont désobéi à l’ordre du roi ; ils ont livré leur corps plutôt que de servir et d’adorer un autre dieu que leur Dieu. »

Nous n’avons qu’un seul Père : c’est Dieu. » Jésus leur dit : « Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m’aimeriez, car moi, c’est de Dieu que je suis sorti et que je viens. Dieu nous a fait entrer dans le royaume de son fils bien-aimé, par qui nous sommes rachetés et par qui nos péchés sont pardonnés.

Que cette communion à tes mystères, Seigneur, nous procure la guérison que toi seul peux donner: qu’elle arrache de nos cœurs jusqu’aux racines du mal, qu’elle nous protège et nous fortifie à jamais. Par Jésus
MÉDITATION
Le dialogue de Jésus avec la foule juive, tourne autour de la filiation unique des fils d’Abraham. Jésus saisit cette controverse pour leur rappeler que l’origine des fils d’Abraham est néanmoins plus visible à travers la réalisation de la vérité. Chacun de nous est appelé à connaître la vérité du Fils de l’Homme. Et le faire est une libération de l’ignorance et du péché, car le mensonge y emprisonne l’homme, qui devient par conséquent un disciple du Mal. Prenons le parti de la vérité et de la confiance comme Sidrac, Misac, et Abdénago, qui refusent de désobéir aux prescriptions du Seigneur. Le prix de la vérité de Dieu, nous conduit à une vie qui ne finit pas.

Meditation
The density and depth of the message of the one who is called I AM is a true call to know the Father. The Son does the Father’s will and gives him glory in the presence of the Holy Spirit. This text of John leads us to the realities of heaven in that Jesus tells us that sin belongs to the world below. It is necessary to detach oneself from the life of sin and rise to the spiritual world of Good. Dwelling in the Father’s house is our ultimate objective and the illustration of the bronze serpent that Moses raises is an invitation for us to raise our heads to heaven and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus in order to enter into this communion with the Father.

Il récrimina contre Dieu et contre Moïse : « Pourquoi nous avoir fait monter d’Égypte ? Était-ce pour nous faire mourir dans le désert, où il n’y a ni pain ni eau ? Nous sommes dégoûtés de cette nourriture misérable ! » Alors le Seigneur envoya contre le peuple des serpents à la morsure brûlante, et beaucoup en moururent dans le peuple d’Israël. Quand un homme était mordu par un serpent, et qu’il regardait vers le serpent de bronze, il restait en vie !

MÉDITATION
La densité et la profondeur du message de celui qui se nomme, JE SUIS, est un appel véritable à connaître le Père. Le Fils fait la volonté du Père et lui rend gloire en présence du Saint Esprit. Ce texte de Jean, nous mène aux réalités du ciel en ce que Jésus nous y apprend que le péché appartient au monde d’en bas. Il faut se détacher de la vie du péché pour s’élever dans le monde spirituel du Bien. Habiter la maison du Père est notre point d’arriver et l’illustration du serpent de bronze que Moïse dresse, invite le peuple à lever la tête vers le ciel pour entrer dans cette communion avec le Père.

You judge by human standards; I judge no one, but if I judge, my judgement will be sound, because I am not alone: the one who sent me is with me; and in your Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid. Meditation
The Lord himself defends the cause of the righteous. Our God is the source of truth, and Daniel relies on this truth to do justice to poor Susanna. It is the same for the adulterous woman whom the Pharisees brought to Jesus in the hope of trapping him. The truth of Jesus’ words save her from their cruelty. Very often, we condemn others while remaining blind on our own sin. We forget that the other is like me and helps me to see my weaknesses, my vulnerability. Jesus alone can give us the light, which will dispel our darkness and blindness and help us follow him. If we seek the truth that comes from his Word and the love his Spirit gives, then we will not be walking in the dark; we will have the light of life.

A 7 ans, elle transmettait déjà le catéchisme à ses camarades. A 16 ans, elle travaillait aux champs pour venir en aide à ses parents. Paralysée à 22 ans, elle fonda, malgré cela, la Congrégation des Sœurs de Notre-Dame pour l’enseignement et l’éducation des jeunes filles pauvres.

En ces jours-là, le peuple venait de condamner à mort Suzanne. Alors elle cria d’une voix forte : « Dieu éternel, toi qui pénètres les secrets, toi qui connais toutes choses avant qu’elles n’arrivent, tu sais qu’ils ont porté contre moi un faux témoignage. Voici que je vais mourir, sans avoir rien fait de tout ce que leur méchanceté a imaginé contre moi. » Le Seigneur entendit sa voix. Comme on la conduisait à la mort, Dieu éveilla l’esprit de sainteté chez un tout jeune garçon nommé Daniel, qui se mit à crier d’une voix forte : « Je suis innocent de la mort de cette femme!» Tout le peuple se tourna vers lui et on lui demanda: « Que signifie cette parole que tu as prononcée? » Alors, debout au milieu du peuple, il leur dit: « Fils d’Israël, vous êtes donc fous ? Sans interrogatoire, sans recherche de la vérité, vous avez condamné une fille d’Israël. Revenez au tribunal, car ces gens-là ont porté contre elle un faux témoignage. » Tout le peuple revint donc en hâte, et le collège des anciens dit à Daniel : « Viens siéger au milieu de nous et donne-nous des explications, car Dieu a déjà fait de toi un ancien.» Et Daniel leur dit : « Séparez-les bien l’un de l’autre, je vais les interroger.» Quand on les eut séparés, Daniel appela le premier et lui dit : « Toi qui as vieilli dans le mal, tu portes maintenant le poids des péchés que tu as commis autrefois en jugeant injustement : tu condamnais les innocentes tu acquittais les coupables, alors que le Seigneur a dit : “Tu ne feras pas mourir l’innocent et le juste. Eh bien ! si réellement tu as vu cette femme, dis-nous sous quel arbre tu les as vus se donner l’un à l’autre ? » Il répondit: « Sous un sycomore.» Daniel dit : « Voilà justement un mensonge qui te condamne: l’ange de Dieu a reçu un ordre de Dieu, et il va te mettre à mort.» Daniel le renvoya, fit amener l’autre et lui dit : «Tu es de la race de Canaan et non de Juda ! La beauté t’a dévoyé et le désir a perverti ton cœur. C’est ainsi que vous traitiez les filles d’Israël, et, par crainte, elles se donnaient à vous. Mais une fille de Juda n’a pu consentir à votre crime. Dis-moi donc sous quel arbre tu les as vus se donner l’un à l’autre? » Il répondit: « Sous un châtaignier. » Daniel lui dit : «Toi aussi, voilà justement un mensonge qui te condamne : l’ange de Dieu attend, l’épée à la main, pour te châtier, et vous faire exterminer. » Alors toute l’assemblée poussa une grande clameur et bénit Dieu qui sauve ceux qui espèrent en lui. Puis elle se retourna contre les deux anciens que Daniel avait convaincus de faux témoignage par leur propre bouche. Conformément à la loi de Moïse, on leur fit subir la peine que leur méchanceté avait imaginée contre leur prochain : on les mit à mort. Et ce jour-là, une vie innocente fut épargnée.

Évangile : Jean 8, 1-11
En ce temps-là, Jésus s’en alla au mont des Oliviers. Dès l’aurore, il retourna au Temple. Comme tout le peuple venait à lui, il s’assit et se mit à enseigner. Les scribes et les pharisiens lui amènent une femme qu’on avait surprise en situation d’adultère. Ils la mettent au milieu, et disent à Jésus: « Maître, cette femme a été surprise en flagrant délit d’adultère. Or, dans la Loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider ces femmes-là. Et toi, que dis-tu ? » Ils parlaient ainsi pour le mettre à l’épreuve, afin de pouvoir l’accuser. Mais Jésus s’était baissé et, du doigt, il écrivait sur la terre. Comme on persistait à l’interroger, il se redressa et leur dit : « Celui d’entre vous qui est sans péché, qu’il soit le premier à lui jeter une pierre.» Il se baissa de nouveau et il écrivait sur la terre. Eux, après avoir entendu cela, s’en allaient un par un, en commençant par les plus âgés. Jésus resta seul avec la femme toujours là au milieu. Il se redressa et lui demanda : « Femme, où sont-ils donc? Personne ne t’a condamnée ? » Elle répondit : « Personne, Seigneur. » Et Jésus lui dit : « Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas. Va, et désormais ne pèche plus. »
Prière sur les offrandes :
Accorde-nous, Seigneur, cette grâce : qu’au moment de célébrer l’Eucharistie, les renoncements imposés à notre corps nous permettent de nous présenter devant toi avec un cœur purifié. Par Jésus.

Déjà fortifiés par cette Eucharistie, nous te prions encore, Seigneur : que ta grâce nous purifie de nos penchants mauvais, et nous aide à marcher vers toi en suivant joyeusement le Christ. Lui qui.
MÉDITATION
La cause du juste est défendue par le Seigneur lui-même. La vérité pour éclairer les peuples est à rechercher d’auprès de Lui. Daniel s’appuie sur cette vérité pour rendre justice à la pauvre Suzanne. Il en est de même pour la femme adultère qu’on amène à Jésus dans l’espoir de le piéger. La vérité des paroles de Jésus l’a sauvée de la cruauté de ses contemporains. Très souvent nous condamnons les autres tout en restant aveugle sur notre propre péché, oubliant que l’autre est en moi et m’aide à voir mes faiblesses, ma vulnérabilité. Nous devons chercher ardemment à nous éloigner de notre méchanceté. Seigneur, garde nous de l’orgueil et éclaire notre conscience sur ce qui l’inquiète et l’égare.
