Alors, à pied, de toutes les villes, ils coururent là-bas et arrivèrent avant eux. En débarquant, Jésus vit une grande foule. Méditation
Les apôtres viennent d’accomplir une mission. Ils viennent de servir et cela leur valu de perdre des énergies. De retour auprès de leur maitre Jésus, ils rendent compte de ce qu’ils ont fait. Jésus voudrait leur offrir un repos bien mérité « Venez à l’écart dans un endroit désert, et reposez-vous un peu ». Cette invitation se transforme rapidement en enseignement. Tant que les gens ont besoin de Dieu les apôtres doivent le leur donner. La force intérieure qui nous pousse à nous oublier pour les servir, à nous donner totalement pour le salut c’est la compassion qui est l’expression de l’amour divin. Avons-nous encore un cœur compatissant ? Pouvons-nous sacrifier notre sommeil pour garder les malades, pouvons-nous sacrifier nos chats sur WhatsApp pour mettre de notre temps en faveur d’un homme ou une femme avancer en âge en lui rendant visite juste pour l’écouter ?

Meditation
REST! Taking a break from physical activity and daily hurdles is fundamental to progress and growth. Our work can become so overwhelming that we yearn for it to be over, and we may feel so indispensable that we struggle to know when and how to take a break. On their return from mission, Jesus asks the 12 to go and rest for a while. Taking a moment of recollection, a retreat, a day off, a picnic, or even an hour’s break, are all crucial ways to re-energise our bodies for the tasks that lie ahead in every sphere of life. Incorporate rest as a necessary component of your agenda. While dedicating your energy to serving those in need, always set aside some quiet time to be alone with God and rebuild your strength.

Meditation
Herod’s experience in the Gospel passage mirrors the predicament faced by Christians in positions of authority and responsibility. They frequently find themselves caught at a crossroads when making significant decisions that involve navigating the moral and ethical values advocated by society as opposed to those upheld by the Church. Regrettably, much like Herod, they often take the convenient route of pleasing people and atoning for their sins later. But could this not be seen as cowardice? God does not fail those who call upon Him. Let us always call on God – our light and our help – so that when faced with tough choices, we may always choose life and, in so doing, choose Him, God the Almighty Father.

En effet, Jean lui disait: « Tu n’as pas le droit de prendre la femme de ton frère. » Hérodiade en voulait donc à Jean, et elle cherchait à le faire mourir. Mais elle n’y arrivait pas parce que Hérode avait peur de Jean : il savait que c’était un homme juste et saint, et il le protégeait ; quand il l’avait entendu, il était très embarrassé ; cependant il l’écoutait avec plaisir. Or, une occasion favorable se présenta quand, le jour de son anniversaire, Hérode fit un dîner pour ses dignitaires, pour les chefs de l’armée et pour les notables de la Galilée. La fille d’Hérodiade fit son entrée et dansa. Elle plut à Hérode et à ses convives. Le roi dit à la jeune fille: « Demande-moi ce que tu veux, et je te le donnerai. » Et il lui fit ce serment: « Tout ce que tu me demanderas, je te le donnerai, même si c’est la moitié de mon royaume. » Elle sortit alors pour dire à sa mère: « Qu’est-ce que je vais demander? » Hérodiade répondit : « La tête de Jean, celui qui baptise. » Aussitôt la jeune fille s’empressa de retourner auprès du roi, et lui fit cette demande: « Je veux que, tout de suite, tu me donnes sur un plat la tête de Jean le Baptiste. » Le roi fut vivement contrarié ; mais à cause du serment et des convives, il ne voulut pas lui opposer un refus. Aussitôt il envoya un garde avec l’ordre d’apporter la tête de Jean. Le garde s’en alla décapiter Jean dans la prison. Il apporta la tête sur un plat, la donna à la jeune fille, et la jeune fille la donna à sa mère. Ayant appris cela, les disciples de Jean vinrent prendre son corps et le déposèrent dans un tombeau.

Méditation
Hérode fait un serment et il l’accomplit. Il offre comme promis la tête de Jean Baptiste à la fille d’Hérodiade comme promis dans son serment. En effet, Jean était devenu nuisible aux yeux de sa concubine Hérodiade. Nuisible parce qu’il disait la vérité à Hérode. On peut concéder à Hérode d’avoir été loyal parce que ce qu’il a promis, il l’a accompli. Cependant, il faut se demander ce que vaut la loyauté si elle n’est pas enracinée dans la vérité ? Quelle est la valeur de la loyauté lorsqu’elle s’oppose à la vérité, à la bonté, au bien qui sont des attributs de Dieu . Se désolidariser de notre projet de faire le mal même quand on a fait des promesses à des personnes c’est cela écouter la voix de l’Esprit Saint. Cela déverse l’opprobre, la honte sur nous certes mais par la aussi se fraie le chemin du salut. Hérode aurait pu renoncer.
During his canonical visitation to Saint Dominic’s Parish, Munyenge, the Major Superior of the Claretian Missionaries in Cameroon, Fr. Jude Thaddeus Langeh, CMF, inaugurated a grinding machine to support the people affected by the ongoing socio-political crisis.
For over seven years, the population of Saint Dominic’s Parish has been displaced, struggling to meet their basic needs. Due to the enclave nature of the area, residents have had to travel long distances at great risk to grind foodstuffs. Lykoko-Native remains the only locality where life shows some promise. The installation of this grinding machine is a significant relief to the suffering population, especially in the absence of electricity for several years.
The oldest Christian and catechist, Papa Eto, expressed that this support benefits not only the Catholic community but the entire village. With gratitude, Fr. Gaston Mary Muh, CMF, Parish Priest, thanked God for the gift of the machine, pledging that the community would take good care of it.

Le spectacle était si effrayant que Moïse dit : Je suis effrayé et tremblant. Mais vous êtes venus vers la montagne de Sion et vers la ville du Dieu vivant, la Jérusalem céleste, vers des myriades d’anges en fête et vers l’assemblée des premiers-nés dont les noms sont inscrits dans les cieux. En ce temps-là, Jésus appela les Douze ; alors il commença à les envoyer en mission deux par deux. Il leur donnait autorité sur les esprits impurs, et il leur prescrivit de ne rien prendre pour la route, mais seulement un bâton ; pas de pain, pas de sac, pas de pièces de monnaie dans leur ceinture. « Mettez des sandales, ne prenez pas de tunique de rechange. » Il leur disait encore : « Quand vous avez trouvé l’hospitalité dans une maison, restez- y jusqu’à votre départ. Ils expulsaient beaucoup de démons, faisaient des onctions d’huile à de nombreux malades, et les guérissaient.

Méditation
Jésus appelle les douze disciples et les envoie en mission deux à deux. Il détermine aussi la portée de leur action c’est-à-dire le contenu de ladite mission. Il faut ici apprendre que Dieu lui-même est auteur et propriétaire de la mission. En plus de cela nous devons nous rappeler à chaque fois que nous agissons dans l’Eglise notre action ne doit pas faire triompher nos idées, notre culture mais elle doit rechercher en tout la volonté de Dieu qui est le propriétaire éternel de la mission. L’Eglise entière est missionnaire parce qu’elle est au service du Christ. Chaque chrétien participe de la mission. C’est donc dans la peau de serviteur qu’il doit agir et non pas avec les honneur d’un maitre comme le font les profanes. L’évangile de ce jour nous rappelle qu’il n’y a pas de mission si l’on n’accepte pas d’être des serviteurs, chose qui requiert l’humilité.

O God, strength of all the Saints, who through the Cross were pleased to call the Martyrs Saint Paul Miki and companions to life, grant, we pray, that by their intercession we may hold with courage even until death to the faith that we profess. First reading: Hebrews 12:18-19,21-24
What you have come to is nothing known to the senses: not a blazing fire, or a gloom turning to total darkness, or a storm; or trumpeting thunder or the great voice speaking which made everyone that heard it beg that no more should be said to them. The whole scene was so terrible that Moses said: I am afraid, and was trembling with fright. But what you have come to is Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem where the millions of angels have gathered for the festival, with the whole Church in which everyone is a ‘first-born son’ and a citizen of heaven. You have come to God himself, the supreme Judge, and been placed with spirits of the saints who have been made perfect; and to Jesus, the mediator who brings a new covenant and a blood for purification which pleads more insistently than Abel’s.

Jesus made a tour round the villages, teaching. Then he summoned the Twelve and began to send them out in pairs giving them authority over the unclean spirits. And he instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no haversack, no coppers for their purses. They were to wear sandals but, he added, ‘Do not take a spare tunic.’ And he said to them, ‘If you enter a house anywhere, stay there until you leave the district. And if any place does not welcome you and people refuse to listen to you, as you walk away shake off the dust from under your feet as a sign to them.’ So they set off to preach repentance; and they cast out many devils, and anointed many sick people with oil and cured them.

Prayer after Communion
O God, who in your holy Martyrs have wonderfully made known the mystery of the Cross, graciously grant that, drawing strength from this sacrifice, we may cling faithfully to Christ and labour in the Church for the salvation of all. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Complete surrender to God’s providence serves as a profound indication of the strength of our faith and our commitment as missionaries, bearing witnesses to God’s love. In sending out the Twelve today, Jesus set them on the path of absolute dependence on God. Yet, it is both strange and sad how easily we forget our identity and purpose as God’s children, missionaries, and witnesses to His love. How often do we neglect to reverence Him in His own presence? Can we genuinely ponder God’s love within His Temple, as the psalmist suggests? Let us make a conscious effort to live lives that are worthy of God’s presence, relying solely on Him. In so doing, we will live the very message of God that we proclaim to the world.

1ère lecture : Hébreux 12, 4-7.11-15
Frères, vous n’avez pas encore résisté jusqu’au sang dans votre lutte contre le péché, et vous avez oublié cette parole de réconfort, qui vous est adressée comme à des fils : Mon fils, ne néglige pas les leçons du Seigneur, ne te décourage pas quand il te fait des reproches. Quand le Seigneur aime quelqu’un, il lui donne de bonnes leçons ; il corrige tous ceux qu’il accueille comme ses fils. Ce que vous endurez est une leçon. Dieu se comporte envers vous comme envers des fils ; et quel est le fils auquel son père ne donne pas des leçons ? Quand on vient de recevoir une leçon, on n’éprouve pas de la joie mais plutôt de la tristesse. Mais plus tard, quand on s’est repris grâce à la leçon, celle-ci produit un fruit de paix et de justice. C’est pourquoi, redressez les mains inertes et les genoux qui fléchissent, et rendez droits pour vos pieds les sentiers tortueux. Ainsi, celui qui boite ne se fera pas d’entorse ; bien plus, il sera guéri. Recherchez activement la paix avec tous, et la sainteté sans laquelle personne ne verra le Seigneur. Soyez vigilants: que personne ne se dérobe à la grâce de Dieu, qu’il ne pousse chez vous aucune plante aux fruits amers, cela causerait du trouble, et beaucoup en seraient infectés.

R/ L’amour du Seigneur, sur ceux qui le craignent, est de toujours à toujours.

Comme la tendresse du père pour ses fils, la tendresse du Seigneur pour qui le craint ! Il sait de quoi nous sommes pétris, il se souvient que nous sommes poussière.
Mais l’amour du Seigneur, sur ceux qui le craignent, est de toujours à toujours, et sa justice pour les enfants de leurs enfants, pour ceux qui gardent son alliance.

Évangile : Marc 6, 1-6
En ce temps-là, Jésus se rendit dans son lieu d’origine, et ses disciples le suivirent. Le jour du sabbat, il se mit à enseigner dans la synagogue. De nombreux auditeurs, frappés d’étonnement, disaient: « D’où cela lui vient-il ? Quelle est cette sagesse qui lui a été donnée, et ces grands miracles qui se réalisent par ses mains ? N’est-il pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie, et le frère de Jacques, de José, de Jude et de Simon ? Ses sœurs ne sont-elles pas ici chez nous? » Et ils étaient profondément choqués à son sujet. Jésus leur disait : « Un prophète n’est méprisé que dans son pays, sa parenté et sa maison.» Et là il ne pouvait accomplir aucun miracle ; il guérit seulement quelques malades en leur imposant les mains. Et il s’étonna de leur manque de foi. Alors Jésus parcourait les villages d’alentour en enseignant.

Seigneur, tu as donné à la bienheureuse Agathe d’être comptée parmi les saintes du ciel, au double titre de vierge et de martyre ; par la force de cette communion, fais-nous sortir vainqueurs de toute épreuve pour obtenir un jour la gloire du Royaume. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Nos us et coutumes, notre culture ainsi que la familiarité d’avec les personnes peuvent devenir un énorme obstacle dans la réception de la vérité et la parole de Dieu qu’il nous transmette. Très souvent, on cesse de contempler la vérité ou la volonté de Dieu pour s’accrocher sur ce qui nous conforte de ne pas la recevoir. N’a-t-on souvent pas entendu dire qu’« un enfant ne raisonne pas ses parents » ? C’est la une façon de rejeter la vérité qui est le Christ lui-même. Il est vérité pérenne indépendamment de celui qui la porte. « N’est-il pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie ? » Les auditeurs d’Evangelium pourraient dire « Nous écoutons ces lectures et médiations chaque année. Que sont-elles apportées de neuf ? » voilà un obstacle à la foi et à la conversion.
She was martyred at Catania in Sicily during the persecution of Decius (250-253). She is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the Mass.

First reading: Hebrews 12:4-7,11-15
In the fight against sin, you have not yet had to keep fighting to the point of death. Have you forgotten that encouraging text in which you are addressed as sons? My son, when the Lord corrects you, do not treat it lightly; but do not get discouraged when he reprimands you. For the Lord trains the ones that he loves and he punishes all those that he acknowledges as his sons. Suffering is part of your training; God is treating you as his sons. Has there ever been any son whose father did not train him? Of course, any punishment is most painful at the time, and far from pleasant; but later, in those on whom it has been used, it bears fruit in peace and goodness. So hold up your limp arms and steady your trembling knees and smooth out the path you tread; then the injured limb will not be wrenched, it will grow strong again. Always be wanting peace with all people, and the holiness without which no one can ever see the Lord. Be careful that no one is deprived of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness should begin to grow and make trouble; this can poison a whole community.

Gospel: Mark 6:1-6
Jesus went to his home town and his disciples accompanied him. With the coming of the sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue and most of them were astonished when they heard him. They said, ‘Where did the man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been granted him, and these miracles that are worked through him? This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joset and Jude and Simon? His sisters, too, are they not here with us?’ And they would not accept him. And Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is only despised in his own country, among his own relations and in his own house’; and he could work no miracle there, though he cured a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

O God, who bestowed on blessed Saint Agatha a crown among the Saints for her twofold triumph of virginity and martyrdom, grant, we pray, through the power of this Sacrament, that, bravely overcoming every evil, we may attain the glory of heaven. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
It is not uncommon to encounter individuals who face rejection, or are unwelcome in certain circles because of their views and ideals, regardless of their genuine kindness, humanitarian efforts, and willingness to contribute to the common good. For instance, people often favour businessmen who bring them personal gain over those who alleviate the suffering of others. Our legal system sometimes prioritises financial gain over justice. Even some churches may neglect welcoming strangers or feeding the hungry. The situation becomes more disheartening when those attempting to make a positive difference are rejected by their own kin. Yet, as long as we are alive, the struggle against sin and evil remains ever-present. Let us ask God for the grace to remain steadfast in the battle for good to triumph.
He was born at Sempringham, he founded an order of monks and nuns, known as the GIlbertines. He died at Sempringham in 1190, at the age of 106.

Gospel: Mark 5:21-43
When Jesus had crossed in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered round him and he stayed by the lakeside. Then one of the synagogue officials came up, Jairus by name, and seeing him, fell at his feet and pleaded with him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is desperately sick. Do come and lay your hands on her to make her better and save her life.’ Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed him; they were pressing all round him. Now there was a woman who had suffered from a haemorrhage for twelve years; after long and painful treatment under various doctors, she spent all she had without being any the better for it, in fact, she was getting worse. She had heard about Jesus, and she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his cloak. ‘If I can touch even his clothes,’ she had told herself ‘I shall be well again.’ And the source of the bleeding dried up instantly, and she felt in herself that she was cured of her complaint. Immediately aware that power had gone out from him, Jesus turned round in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ His disciples said to him, ‘You see how the crowd is pressing round you and yet you say, “Who touched me?”’ But he continued to look all round to see who had done it. Then the woman came forward, frightened and trembling because she knew what had happened to her, and she fell at his feet and told him the whole truth. ‘My daughter,’ he said ‘your faith has restored you to health; go in peace and be free from your complaint.’ While he was still speaking some people arrived from the house of the synagogue official to say, ‘Your daughter is dead: why put the Master to any further trouble?’ But Jesus had overheard this remark of theirs and he said to the official, ‘Do not be afraid; only have faith.’ And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. So they came to the official’s house and Jesus noticed all the commotion, with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly. He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.’ But they laughed at him. So he turned them all out and, taking with him the child’s father and mother and his own companions, he went into the place where the child lay. And taking the child by the hand he said to her, ‘Talitha, kum!’ which means, ‘Little girl, I tell you to get up.’ The little girl got up at once and began to walk about, for she was twelve years old. At this they were overcome with astonishment, and he ordered them strictly not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something to eat.
Prayer over the Offerings
O Lord, we bring to your altar these offerings of our service: be pleased to receive them, we pray, and transform them into the Sacrament of our redemption. Through Christ our Lord.
Communion Antiphon: Cf. Ps 30: 17-18
Let your face shine on your servant. Save me in your merciful love. O Lord, let me never be put to shame, for I call on you.

Nourished by these redeeming gifts, we pray, O Lord, that through this help to eternal salvation true faith may ever increase. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
This double miracle – healing one person and raising another to life – holds significant importance in Mark’s Gospel. However, it would be common error to merely focus, as many do, on the rather spectacular unfolding of the events. Beyond a display of Jesus’ power, we are called to embrace at least two dispositions without which no miracle could be worked in our lives. The first is faith. “If I can touch even his clothes…”, says the woman with the flow of blood. This sounds more in our days like “if only you believed…”. The second is humility. On meeting Jesus, Jairus falls at his feet to plead for his daughter’s healing, while the woman, aware of what hads happened to her, also falls at our Lord’s feet. In our daily struggles, therefore, we must cultivate the qualities of belief, humility, and a continuous reliance on God!
