Pelagia, more often called Margaret, was an actress of Antioch who was converted by a sermon of Bishop Nonnus of Edessa. She gave her wealth to Nonnus to aid the poor. She subsequently became a hermitess in a cave on Mount of Olivette. Her feast day is October 8th.

Then God, who had specially chosen me while I was still in my mother’s womb, called me through his grace and chose to reveal his Son in me, so that I might preach the Good News about him to the pagans. I did not stop to discuss this with any human being, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were already apostles before me, but I went off to Arabia at once and later went straight back from there to Damascus. Even when after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and stayed with him for fifteen days, I did not see any of the other apostles; I only saw James, the brother of the Lord, and I swear before God that what I have just written is the literal truth. Meditation
Today we find Jesus in the home of Mary and Martha. Martha is busy, a thing any host would do, and she is “distracted with all the serving”. Serving is something that Jesus himself constantly did, as he said that the son of man did not come to be served but to serve. Martha is overwhelmed by the service while Mary takes the position of a disciple sitting at the master’s feet, so Martha complains about her sister. Listening to his message is something Jesus tells his disciples and the crowd they need to do all the time. Listening involves understanding, accepting and assimilating that message so that it becomes part of our very selves. Following the parable of the Good Samaritan, which we had yesterday, Jesus blends the two personalities of Martha and Mary: he spent long hours bringing healing to people’s lives, being a real neighbour, but also retired to quiet places to be alone in communion with his Father. Also, unlike the others, these sisters were ready to offer Jesus their love and hospitality. They never asked for anything in return; they did not even ask Jesus to raise their brother Lazarus from the dead. Jesus did it out of his own divine will.

1ère lecture : Ga 1, 13-24

Méditation L’action et la contemplation sont constitutives de la vie du disciple de Jésus. C’est ce que Marie et Marthe représentent prises conjointement dans la page de l’Evangile. Le chrétien doit écouter la parole de Dieu parcequ’elle est le modèle à partir duquel sa vie doit être rythmée. Son action doit avoir pour socle la volonté de Dieu qu’il aura contemplé dans l’écoute de la parole. Certains chrétiens ont souvent épousé un extrême de penser que seule la contemplation suffit. En réalité notre contemplation doit s’achever dans l’action, c’est à dire le service, le travail, le pardon. La controverse aujourd’hui est que le chrétien qui écoute la parole et qui contemple le Christ n’est pas un modèle dans son lieu de service. Il est corrupteur ou corrompu, malhonnête, triste, orgueilleux. Ceci montre une déconnexion entre la foi que nous professons et la foi que nous vivons. Demandons à Dieu de faire de nous des chrétiens authentiques qui prêchent par la parole et par le témoignage de vie.
Titre donné à Marie, Notre Dame du Rosaire évoque une forme de piété : le Rosaire. Celui-ci consiste à louer et à invoquer la Vierge Marie en lui adressant la salutation de l’Ange et en parcourant l’Évangile. C’est une piété qui nous apprend à contempler le Christ.

Méditation Le docteur de la loi sait que l’homme doit faire quelque chose pour avoir la vie éternelle. Il sait également ce qu’il doit faire car lorsque le Christ lui pose la question sur les écritures , il récite par coeur la réponse à sa propre question. Dans sa réponse il ressort que la vie éternelle s’obtient par l’amour. Ce qu’il faut bien comprendre c’est que notre cœur a pour rôle d’aimer le prochain mais nous pouvons quelque fois feindre de ne pas connaître ce prochain, nous pouvons même arranger des situations qui ne permettent pas de l’identifier. A cause du tribalisme, de l’égoïsme, de la haine nous ignorons très souvent notre prochain. L’argent et les honneurs peuvent être des obstacles à la vie du prochain. En leur nom on peut sacrifier l’homme en niant en lui toute dignité y compris le droit à la vie.

Meditation
For many people, their neighbour is the person who lives in the apartment next to theirs, the one with whom they share the same block. In today’s Gospel passage, thanks to the lawyer’s question, Jesus gives us another definition of a neighbour. A neighbour is any human being we come across. Jesus’ definition of neighbour cuts across religious, ethnic and social boundaries. Imagine a Samaritan caring for a Jew, and the Jews looked at Samaritans as outcasts, contaminated and unworthy humans because of their intermarriage with Gentiles. By the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus teaches us to give the respect and treatment that are worthy of humans to every human being we meet. In what concrete ways can I practice the challenge Jesus gives me in today’s Gospel passage?

Le Seigneur Dieu dit : « Il n’est pas bon que l’homme soit seul. Je vais lui faire une aide qui lui correspondra. » Avec de la terre, le Seigneur Dieu modela toutes les bêtes des champs et tous les oiseaux du ciel, et il les amena vers l’homme pour voir quels noms il leur donnerait. C’étaient des êtres vivants, et l’homme donna un nom à chacun. L’homme donna donc leurs noms à tous les animaux, aux oiseaux du ciel et à toutes les bêtes des champs. Mais il ne trouva aucune aide qui lui corresponde. Alors le Seigneur Dieu fit tomber sur lui un sommeil mystérieux, et l’homme s’endormit. Le Seigneur Dieu prit une de ses côtes, puis il referma la chair à sa place. Avec la côte qu’il avait prise à l’homme, il façonna une femme et il l’amena vers l’homme. L’homme dit alors : « Cette fois-ci, voilà l’os de mes os et la chair de ma chair ! On l’appellera femme – Ishsha –, elle qui fut tirée de l’homme – Ish. » À cause de cela, l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, il s’attachera à sa femme, et tous deux ne feront plus qu’un.

2ème lecture : Hébreux 2, 9-11.
Frères, Jésus, qui a été abaissé un peu au-dessous des anges, nous le voyons couronné de gloire et d’honneur à cause de sa Passion et de sa mort. Si donc il a fait l’expérience de la mort, c’est, par grâce de Dieu, au profit de tous. Celui pour qui et par qui tout existe voulait conduire une multitude de fils jusqu’à la gloire; c’est pourquoi il convenait qu’il mène à sa perfection, par des souffrances, celui qui est à l’origine de leur salut. Car celui qui sanctifie et ceux qui sont sanctifiés doivent tous avoir même origine; pour cette raison, Jésus n’a pas honte de les appeler ses frères,

Il peut arriver que les us et coutumes des hommes s’opposent ou contournent la volonté de Dieu . Dieu a établi au commencement que l’homme et la femme s’unissent pour toujours . Cela est remis en question par la culture du provisoire qui est en vogue de nos jours . Il est normal aujourd’hui que de jeunes gens entrent en relation intime sans avoir un projet d’une vie commune à construire. On peut aussi observer qu’il y a des défenseurs y compris parmi les chrétiens des unions contre nature des personnes de même sexe . Tout cela arrive parceque notre coeur est en crise d’amour , il est en crise de Dieu . C’est la raison pour laquelle la fidélité à sa parole trouve des obstacles en nous et au sein de la société . La colère de Jésus lorsqu’on empêche les enfants de venir à lui est révélatrice qu’il veut nous enseigner de rester fidèles à ce que le Seigneur attend de nous « celui qui n’accueille pas le royaume à la manière d’un enfant n’y entrera pas « . Second Reading : Hebrews 2:9-11
We see in Jesus one who was for a short while made lower than the angels and is now crowned with glory and splendour because he submitted to death; by God’s grace he had to experience death for all mankind. As it was his purpose to bring a great many of his sons into glory, it was appropriate that God, for whom everything exists and through whom everything exists, should make perfect, through suffering, the leader who would take them to their salvation. For the one who sanctifies, and the ones who are sanctified, are of the same stock; that is why he openly calls them brothers.

Meditation
Generally, when young people are in school, they dream of completing their studies and getting a job. The sacrament of marriage offers another dimension in which one goes to school again, where they learn to love and forgive. Today, such authentic commitments are a hard-to-find treasure. Today’s readings allow us to relook at and rediscover the meaning of radical commitment in every human relationship, marriage being the relationship par excellence. The couple’s fidelity to each other symbolises and reflects the faithfulness of God to his people and the faithfulness of Christ to the Church. Marriage is not a matter of mere feelings. It is a gift of the whole person to the other: «it is not good that man should be alone.» God carefully founded this relationship and endowed it with his own initiative. Therefore, for it to be truly authentic, each relationship must be founded on the love God has bestowed. Thus, we must respect marriage as an institution which only God can break, and no man can split apart. The words of Jesus underline the seriousness of marriage, and anyone who tries to attack the institution of marriage is like attacking the bond of God’s commitment to us – God’s love for his people.
Ce 05 octobre 2024, journée internationale des enseignants fut aussi une journée spéciale pour Saint Claret Relief Acade, Santa. C’était établissement à eu la messe d’ouverture qui inaugurait l’année scolaire 2024/2025. Plus de 500 élèves, 50 enseignants et plusieurs parents d’élèves ont participé à cette cérémonie.
Le célébrant, le révérend père Frédéric Kpoumié, cmf, préfet d’apostolat des Missionnaires Clarétains au Cameroun a remercié les élèves, les enseignants ainsi que les parents qui font tout, malgré la situation sociopolitique qui sévit dans la région pour garantir un avenir meilleur à la jeunesse Camerounaise.
Le principal de l’établissement a réitéré sa gratitude à l’endroit du conseil de la Délégation sans oublier les enseignants et les parents qui veillent à la continuité de cette école. Le père Joseph Viseme, cmf a également encouragé ses élèves à étudier avec assiduité pour une année scolaire couronnée de succès.
La cérémonie s’est achevée par la Bénédiction des élèves et leurs enseignants. C’était aussi une occasion de fêter la journée des enseignants avec ceux qui sont venus nombreux pour représenter le corps professoral de l’établissement.
October 5, 2024, was a day of extraordinary significance for Saint Claret Relief Academy Santa. Not only was it the International Day for Teachers, but it was also the Eucharistic Celebration, marking the grand opening of the 2024/2025 academic year. This unique combination of events drew over 500 students, over 50 teachers, and numerous parents who gathered to express their gratitude for God’s blessings. The students, in particular, were the heart of this event, their vibrant and colourful liturgy adding a special touch to the celebration.
Father Frederic Kpoumie, cmf, prefect of Apostolate, who presided over the Mass, not only thanked the parents, staff, and students for their love and support for the institution but also inspired them with his words. He encouraged them to pray and offer their studies for God’s protection, instilling a sense of purpose and dedication in their hearts.
In the Homily, Father Melvin Neba, cmf, beaconed all to hold fast to prayers and always implore God’s blessings in their studies, trusting that everything is possible with God and no project is above Him. The homilist also encouraged the students to root their studies in Christ in Christ to record success at the end of the academic year.
Father Joseph Viseme, cmf, the school’s principal, took a moment to appreciate the council members’ presence and to thank all the teachers for their dedicated service. He then turned to the students, urging them to approach their studies with seriousness and dedication. He concluded with a heartfelt prayer for a smooth and successful academic year.
The presence of the Claretians in Saint Claret Academy is a powerful testament to their unwavering commitment to the community. The claretians, who have always risen above challenges to serve those in need, are a constant source of inspiration in Santa. Their presence in this zone is not just a reminder of the enduring spirit of service and encouragement, but also a reassurance of the school’s strong mission and values.
Sister Faustina was a young, uneducated, nun in a convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland during the 1930’s. She received extraordinary revelations on God’s loving message of Divine Mercy. Saint Faustina’s revelations are a constant reminder of the message to trust in Jesus’ endless mercy, and to live life mercifully toward others.

Meditation
At the beginning of chapter 10 of the Gospel, according to Luke, we saw how Jesus had sent his 72 disciples out to all the places where he would visit. Today, we see them returning full of joy and satisfaction. “Lord, even the devils submit to us when we use your name.” They discovered that, in his name, they could do the same things that Jesus did. The power of the evil one is being reversed, and he assures them: “I have given you power to tread underfoot serpents and scorpions … nothing shall ever hurt you”. Nothing, as Paul says, can separate us from the love of God, that is, the love that God extends to us at every moment of every day. Jesus tells his disciples the real reason why they should be happy. It is not because they have special powers over evil spirits but because their names are written in heaven. They have been chosen as the instruments for God to do his work, to make the Kingdom a reality. That blessedness granted to the apostles is granted to us today, also. Let us, therefore, count our blessings daily as we continue to receive such uncountable blessings from our God.

De fait, j’ai parlé, sans les comprendre, de merveilles hors de ma portée, dont je ne savais rien. C’est par ouï-dire que je te connaissais, mais maintenant mes yeux t’ont vu. C’est pourquoi je me rétracte et me repens sur la poussière et sur la cendre. » Le Seigneur bénit la nouvelle situation de Job plus encore que l’ancienne. Job posséda quatorze mille moutons et six mille chameaux, mille paires de bœufs et mille ânesses. Il eut encore sept fils et trois filles. Il nomma la première Colombe, la deuxième Fleur-de-Laurier, et la troisième Ombre-du-regard. On ne trouvait pas dans tout le pays de femmes aussi belles que les filles de Job. Leur père leur donna une part d’héritage avec leurs frères. Après cela, Job vécut encore cent quarante ans, et il vit ses fils et les fils de ses fils : quatre générations. Et Job mourut âgé, rassasié de jours.

Méditation L’essence de la joie du Chrétien c’est de partager éternellement la vie de Dieu . Notre vie quotienne nous offre des succès . Un élève qui réussit son examen de baccalauréat , un jeune fonctionnaire qui perçoit son tout premier salaire , un politicien qui gagne une élection , une femme qui se marie à l’église par exemple . Ces succès offre la joie et sont motif de joie parceque nous voyons arriver à leur accomplissement un but visé. C’est ce qui arrive aux 72 disciples du Christ qui participent déjà de sa mission . Ils font des prouesses avec le nom de leur maître et les esprits malveillants leur sont soumis. Ils ne trouvent pas leur joie dans le nom de leur maître mais dans les effets que produit ce nom à savoir la soumission des esprits. Cher frères et sœurs c’est le Christ qui est notre joie parfaite pour le croyant. Ne nous laissons pas obnubiler par les joies ou un certain confort que nos efforts quotidiens nous offrent en nous détachant de celui qui est la source de tout bien . Gardons nos yeux fixés sur lui et nous serons toujours joyeux .
