SAINT Albert the Great
He was born in Germany and joined the Dominican Order. He taught in a number of places including the University of Paris, where St Thomas Aquinas studied under him. He was one of the greatest philosophers of the Middle Ages. He made great efforts to secure peace between people and between cities. He died at Cologne in 1280.

They stood some way off and called to him, “Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.” When he saw them he said, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made Jesus say, “Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.” And he said to the man, “Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.”

Meditation
Who would have thought of it; Jews and Samaritans able to communicate or help each other?! Indeed, the socio-historical context of the past did not allow for cohabitation or even dialogue between Jews and Samaritans. This is the first obstacle between Jesus and his listeners. In addition, the presence of leprosy must be emphasized, which was a reason for physical distancing. But Jesus, through his moral positions and convictions, brings an overcoming of interpersonal relationships which must essentially be based on the law of love and not the love of the law. SAINT Dyfrig
He was born in what is now Herefordshire, the illegitimate son of the daughter of a local king. He founded monasteries in south-east Wales, was the teacher of Saints Teilo and Samson among others, and exercised the functions of a bishop.

Meditation
To serve without expecting anything in return cannot be obvious or easy. But Jesus in his Word, which is truth and life, invites us to do so because it is also a sure and certain way to our salvation. Whoever serves his brothers and sisters with faith and joy, automatically serves God whom he does not see. He certainly acts in a manner that brings him closer to salvation. In fact, we will be judged on the last day on the exercise of brotherhood, the practice of charity and our ability to serve (Cf Mt 25, 31-46). Through the intercession of the saints, may we know how to conjugate the verb “to serve” both in our words and deeds, that we may have Eternal Life.

Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini
She was born in Lombardy. Because of her frail health she was refused admission to two convents. She devoted herself to teaching, and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She founded 67 institutions across the United States, South America and Europe. She died of malaria at Chicago in 1917.

Meditation
In the history of salvation, as in the life of the Church, scandal has always been severely punished because it leads to the fall of the weak and more sensitive souls. Today’s Gospel is a warning to those who do not pay much attention to the little ones. Our faith must lead us to fraternal correction rather than to indifference or total closure. It should give us the strength and power to always forgive on the one hand and to perform wonders on the other. May the Lord strengthen, revive and increase our faith.

Meditation
This very famous Gospel text is part of the eschatological discourses of Jesus. Here the emphasis is on vigilance or prudence, which is a cardinal virtue: “Watch therefore, for you know not the day nor the hour” (Mt 25:13). Contrary to the dark picture of the foolish, the picture of the sensible virgins presents us with the multiple advantages of prudence: it avoids dangers, unnecessary risks and fatal errors. Because he has understood that “prevention is better than cure”, the prudent man is the owner of an inestimable grace (Cf. Pr 13:16). By remaining prudent at all times, he will hardly find himself in a difficult and embarrassing situation. Let us pray for all the unwise people of the world, that they may recognize their shortcomings and find the strength to correct their handicap in order to share in salvation.

SAINT Martin of Tours
He was born in the Roman province of Pannonia. He spent some time as a hermit on an island off the Ligurian coast, founded a monastery at Ligugé in western France. The famous story about St Martin is that while a soldier in Amiens he gave half of his military cloak to a beggar and later had a dream in which the beggar revealed himself as Christ. He died in 397.

If then you cannot be trusted with money, that tainted thing, who will trust you with genuine riches? And if you cannot be trusted with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own? ‘No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.” The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and laughed at him. Meditation
If we want to reach Heaven in our Christian life, we must absolutely be aware of some incompatibilities. Evil and good, lies and truth, darkness and light, for example, are radical opposites. In the same way, Money – very seductive and tempting (of referred to as “the devil!”) – and God cannot be a good match. Yes, we absolutely have to make a choice between them and bear it. At our baptism, we chose to serve God. It is a very noble choice, but a demanding one that requires us to distance ourselves from material goods, wealth and money. Having understood this text of the Gospel, and conscious of the fate of Judas, the ministers of Christ make the Vow of Poverty thus renouncing attachment to money or to possessions which tend to replace God in their lives.

SAINT Leo the Great, Pope
He was born in Etruria and became Pope in 440. He was a true shepherd and father of souls. He constantly strove to keep the faith whole and strenuously defended the unity of the Church. He left many doctrinal and spiritual writings behind and a number of them are included in the Office of Readings to this day. He died in 461.
Entrance Antiphon: Sir 45: 30
The Lord established for him a covenant of peace, and made him the prince, that he might have the dignity of the priesthood for ever.

O God, who never allow the gates of hell to prevail against your Church, firmly founded on the apostolic rock, grant her, we pray, that through the intercession of Pope Saint Leo, she may stand firm in your truth and know the protection of lasting peace. First reading: Romans 15:14-21
My brothers, I am quite certain that you are full of good intentions, perfectly well instructed and able to advise each other. The reason why I have written to you, and put some things rather strongly, is to refresh your memories, since God has given me this special position. He has appointed me as a priest of Jesus Christ, and I am to carry out my priestly duty by bringing the Good News from God to the pagans, and so make them acceptable as an offering, made holy by the Holy Spirit. I think I have some reason to be proud of what I, in union with Christ Jesus, have been able to do for God. What I am presuming to speak of, of course, is only what Christ himself has done to win the allegiance of the pagans, using what I have said and done by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus all the way along, from Jerusalem to Illyricum, I have preached Christ’s Good News to the utmost of my capacity. I have always, however, made it an unbroken rule never to preach where Christ’s name has already been heard. The reason for that was that I had no wish to build on other men’s foundations; on the contrary, my chief concern has been to fulfil the text: Those who have never been told about him will see him, and those who have never heard about him will understand.

“Whatever we have and whatever we are, without friendship-fraternity-solidarity, we are miserable. In speaking of a skilful manager or steward who is truly praised by the Master, today’s Gospel confirms our original point of view. Indeed, having realized his state of disgrace and the imminence of his dismissal, this manager of the Gospel creates a more or less solid fraternal fabric by helping all the debtors of his Master. The lesson that we can draw from this story is simply that each of us can embellish the end of the story of our life even if the beginning and the unfolding were only a rough draft. Through the intercession of St. Leo the Great, may God grant us the wisdom and spirit of discernment without which we are bound to neglect or even break Fraternity.
