Sainte Brigitte de Suède,

Mariée à treize ans avec un seigneur suédois nommé Ulf, Brigitte lui donne huit enfants. Au retour d’un pèlerinage à Compostelle, Ulf meurt (1344) ; Brigitte vit alors dans la pauvreté et la prière. Elle reçoit des révélations sur le mystère de la Passion et travaille à la réconciliation des rois chrétiens. Venue à Rome pour l’année sainte 1350, elle y travaille à obtenir l’approbation de l’ordre du Saint-Sauveur que sa fille, sainte Catherine de Suède, organisera après sa mort.

1ère lecture : Mi 7, 14-15.18-20
Seigneur, avec ta houlette, sois le pasteur de ton peuple, du troupeau qui t’appartient, qui demeure isolé dans le maquis, entouré de vergers. Qu’il retrouve son pâturage à Bashane et Galaad, comme aux jours d’autrefois ! Comme aux jours où tu sortis d’Égypte, tu lui feras voir des merveilles ! Qui est Dieu comme toi, pour enlever le crime, pour passer sur la révolte comme tu le fais à l’égard du reste, ton héritage : un Dieu qui ne s’obstine pas pour toujours dans sa colère mais se plaît à manifester sa faveur? De nouveau, tu nous montreras ta miséricorde, tu fouleras aux pieds nos crimes, tu jetteras au fond de la mer tous nos péchés ! Ainsi tu accordes à Jacob ta fidélité, à Abraham ta faveur, comme tu l’as juré à nos pères depuis les jours d’autrefois.

Tu as aimé, Seigneur, cette terre, tu as fait revenir les déportés de Jacob ; tu as ôté le péché de ton peuple, tu as couvert toute sa faute.
Fais-nous revenir, Dieu, notre salut, oublie ton ressentiment contre nous. Seras-tu toujours irrité contre nous, maintiendras-tu ta colère d’âge en âge?

En ce temps-là, comme Jésus parlait encore aux foules, voici que sa mère et ses frères se tenaient au-dehors, cherchant à lui parler. Quelqu’un lui dit : « Ta mère et tes frères sont là, dehors, qui cherchent à te parler. » Jésus lui répondit : « Qui est ma mère, et qui sont mes frères ? » Puis, étendant la main vers ses disciples, il dit : « Voici ma mère et mes frères. Car celui qui fait la volonté de mon Père qui est aux cieux, celui-là est pour moi un frère, une sœur, une mère. »

Méditation
Jésus s’applique à lui-même les exigences pour être au service du règne de Dieu. Renoncer parfois à sa propre famille. Qui veut être véritable disciple du Christ doit suivre son exemple. C’est dans notre propre famille que nous viennent souvent des incompréhensions. Combien de personnes ont-elles compromis leur vie parce qu’elles voulaient aider leur famille ? Et plus tard se sont retrouvés dans le pétrin, tu es toute seules. Nous devons conduire nos familles dans l’accomplissement de la volonté de Dieu. C’est cela les aimer. Sinon, elles nous perdent et elles avec.

Au pied de la croix de Jésus un groupe fidèle était présent: celui des femmes dont Luc nous dit qu’elles avaient suivi et servi Jésus durant sa prédication. Parmi elles, Marie de Magdala est nommée la première. Elle avait été la proie du démon ; mais la parole du Christ suscite en elle une foi qui la libère des passions, et elle répond à l’amour que cette parole lui révèle avec toute l’ardeur de son cœur purifié.
Antienne d’ouverture : Jn 20,17
A Marie Madeleine, Jésus ressuscité a confié ce message : « Va trouver mes frères, et dis-leur: Je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu.»
Prière d’ouverture
Seigneur, notre Dieu, c’est à Marie-Madeleine que ton Fils bien-aimé a confié la première annonce de la joie pascale ; Accorde-nous, à sa prière et à son exemple, la grâce d’annoncer le Christ ressuscité et de le contempler un jour dans ta gloire.
1ère lecture : 2 Co 5, 14-17
Frères, l’amour du Christ nous saisit quand nous pensons qu’un seul est mort pour tous, et qu’ainsi tous ont passé par la mort. Car le Christ est mort pour tous, afin que les vivants n’aient plus leur vie centrée sur eux-mêmes, mais sur lui, qui est mort et ressuscité pour eux. Désormais nous ne regardons plus personne d’une manière simplement humaine : si nous avons connu le Christ de cette manière, maintenant nous ne le connaissons plus ainsi. Si donc quelqu’un est dans le Christ, il est une créature nouvelle. Le monde ancien s’en est allé, un monde nouveau est déjà né.

Le premier jour de la semaine, Marie Madeleine se rend au to beau de grand matin ; c’était encore les ténèbres. Elle s’aperçoit que la pierre a été enlevée du tombeau. Elle se tenait près du tombeau, au-dehors, tout en pleurs. Et en pleurant, elle se pencha vers le tombeau. Elle aperçoit deux anges vêtus de blanc, assis l’un à la tête et l’autre aux pieds, à l’endroit où avait reposé le corps de Jésus. Ils lui demandent : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? » Elle leur répond : « On a enlevé mon Seigneur, et je ne sais pas où on l’a déposé. » Ayant dit cela, elle se retourna ; elle aperçoit Jésus qui se tenait là, mais elle ne savait pas que c’était Jésus. Jésus lui dit : « Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu ? Qui cherches-tu ? » Le prenant pour le jardinier, elle lui répond : « Si c’est toi qui l’as emporté, dis-moi où tu l’as déposé, et moi, j’irai le prendre. » Jésus lui dit alors : « Marie ! » S’étant retournée, elle lui dit en hébreu : « Rabbouni ! », c’est-à-dire : Maître. Jésus reprend: « Ne me retiens pas, car je ne suis pas encore monté vers le Père. Va trouver mes frères pour leur dire que je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu. » Marie Madeleine s’en va donc annoncer aux disciples : « J’ai vu le Seigneur ! », et elle raconta ce qu’il lui avait dit.

Méditation
“Maître, nous voulons voir un signe venant de toi”. La foi n’est pas une question de sensationnalisme ou faits extraordinaires. Les scribes et les pharisiens demandent à Jésus un signe du ciel. Quel autre signe du ciel peuvent-ils demander alors que Dieu du ciel est devant eux. Oui nous sommes cette génération mauvaise et adultère, nous marchons à la recherche des miracles. Un pied en Jésus et un pied dans les voyants, astrolologues, féticheurs. Ce qui nous manque, c’est la foi. Comme la ville païenne de Ninive s’est convertie à la prédication de Jonas, le Christ nous appelle à la conversion. Le plus grand miracle, c’est le Christ qui est devant toi, c’est lui seul qui peut te sauver et changer ta vie. Confie-toi en lui.

Mary of Magdala was healed of “seven devils” by Jesus. She ministered to him in Galilee and was present at his crucifixion. She was in the group of women who were the first to discover the empty tomb, and it was to her that the risen Jesus first appeared.

O God, whose Only Begotten Son entrusted Mary Magdalene before all others with announcing the great joy of the Resurrection, grant, we pray, that through her intercession and example we may proclaim the living Christ and come to see him reigning in your glory. It was very early on the first day of the week and still dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved. ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb’ she said ‘and we don’t know where they have put him.’ Meanwhile Mary stayed outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, still weeping, she stooped to look inside, and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other at the feet. They said, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ ‘They have taken my Lord away’ she replied ‘and I don’t know where they have put him.’ As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not recognise him. May the holy reception of your mysteries, Lord, instill in us that persevering love with which Saint Mary Magdalene clung resolutely to Christ her Master. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Meditation
Mary Magdalene was one of the genuine disciples of Jesus who remained faithful to him until the end. She received the privilege of seeing first the risen Lord and carrying his message to the apostles. Mark and Luke tell us that Jesus had cast out seven demons from her. Luke also informs us that she was one of the several women who faithfully accompanied Jesus and the apostles during his journeys and “provided for them out of their resources” (Luke 8:2-3). The Jesus experience of Mary Magdalene made her commit herself fully to Jesus and offer her love, time, and material support to the mission of Jesus. She is an example for us to share the Good News of the risen Lord with others. Let our Jesus experience make us carriers of his message to others.

In Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far apart from us have been brought very close, by the blood of Christ. This was to create one single New Man in himself out of the two of them and by restoring peace through the cross, to unite them both in a single Body and reconcile them with God: in his own person he killed the hostility. Later he came to bring the good news of peace, peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near at hand. Through him, both of us have in the one Spirit our way to come to the Father.

Meditation
In today’s world, so many “workaholics” refuse to rest. Jesus teaches us today the importance of taking some time to rest. When we rest, our mind is at peace. Our soul can have no rest until it rests in Christ and God becomes our peace. How does God become our peace? Prayer is certainly one way because prayer unites us with the Blessed Trinity. In prayer, we go to the Father through Jesus and speak to the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. This intense and powerful union with the Holy Trinity is achieved through the action of the Holy Spirit each time we pray and disposes us to receive an abundance of the divine grace. Which in turn enriches everything we do. The dynamic is this: Prayer keeps our soul in frequent contact and union with God and allows God to fill us with His peace and fruits of His Spirit. When we are with God and when we pray and rest, we are refuelling our “spiritual tanks” to care for the crowd described by the evangelist as “sheep without a shepherd”.

2ème lecture : Ep 2, 13-18
Frères, maintenant, dans le Christ Jésus, vous qui autrefois étiez loin, vous êtes devenus proches par le sang du Christ. C’est lui, le Christ, qui est notre paix : des deux, le Juif et le païen, il a fait une seule réalité ; par sa chair crucifiée, il a détruit ce qui les séparait, le mur de la haine ; il a supprimé les prescriptions juridiques de la loi de Moïse. Ainsi, à partir des deux, le Juif et le païen, il a voulu créer en lui un seul Homme nouveau en faisant la paix, et réconcilier avec Dieu les uns et les autres en un seul corps par le moyen de la croix ; en sa personne, il a tué la haine. Il est venu annoncer la bonne nouvelle de la paix, la paix pour vous qui étiez loin, la paix pour ceux qui étaient proches. Par lui, en effet, les uns et les autres, nous avons, dans un seul Esprit, accès auprès du Père.

En ce temps-là, les Apôtres se réunirent auprès de Jésus, et lui annoncèrent tout ce qu’ils avaient fait et enseigné. Il leur dit : « Venez à l’écart dans un endroit désert, et reposez-vous un peu. » De fait, ceux qui arrivaient et ceux qui partaient étaient nombreux, et l’on n’avait même pas le temps de manger. Alors, ils partirent en barque pour un endroit désert, à l’écart. Les gens les virent s’éloigner, et beaucoup comprirent leur intention. Alors, à pied, de toutes les villes, ils coururent là-bas et arrivèrent avant eux. En débarquant, Jésus vit une grande foule. Il fut saisi de compassion envers eux, parce qu’ils étaient comme des brebis sans berger. Alors, il se mit à les enseigner longuement.

Méditation
L’évangile de ce dimanche nous met en présence de la première visite ad limina que réalisent les apôtres, responsables de l’Eglise. Ils viennent de différents lieux d’évangélisation pour annoncer à Jésus ce qu’ils ont fait et enseigné. Certainement Jésus les écoute, mais il ne veut pas que ses disciples tombent dans le triomphalisme ; c’est pourquoi il les invite à l’écart dans un endroit désert pour se reposer un peu. Tous, nous sommes utiles à l’évangélisation, mais nul n’est indispensable, car c’est Dieu qui est à l’œuvre. Pour être efficace dans la mission du Seigneur, au milieu d’une multitude de choses à faire, il faut toujours trouver un endroit désert pour se ressourcer. Nous sommes plus forts par notre vie de prière que par la somme de nos activités. Telle est la qualité de notre vie et de notre relation avec Dieu, telle est la qualité de notre témoignage chrétien. Ce n’est que forts de ceci que nous pouvons accompagner la grande foule des enfants de Dieu qui nous attend en débarquant.

This was to create one single New Man in himself out of the two of them and by restoring peace through the cross, to unite them both in a single Body and reconcile them with God: in his own person he killed the hostility. Meditation
In today’s world, so many “workaholics” refuse to rest. Jesus teaches us today the importance of taking some time to rest. When we rest, our mind is at peace. Our soul can have no rest until it rests in Christ and God becomes our peace. How does God become our peace? Prayer is certainly one way because prayer unites us with the Blessed Trinity. In prayer, we go to the Father through Jesus and speak to the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. This intense and powerful union with the Holy Trinity is achieved through the action of the Holy Spirit each time we pray and disposes us to receive an abundance of the divine grace. Which in turn enriches everything we do. The dynamic is this: Prayer keeps our soul in frequent contact and union with God and allows God to fill us with His peace and fruits of His Spirit. When we are with God and when we pray and rest, we are refuelling our “spiritual tanks” to care for the crowd described by the evangelist as “sheep without a shepherd”.

Meditation
Jesus, the all-powerful Son of God, withdraws from the district because of the Pharisees who, instead of accepting him and being saved, are plotting to kill him. He goes around, preaching and healing the sick and driving out devils. Here, we see that unlike the Pharisees, the outcasts – the so-called sinners – who knew that they needed Jesus accept him and listen to him and so they receive graces and fovours. Jesus withdraws because he came, not to destroy but to save. He came, not to dominate but to be a humble, “suffering servant” as Isaiah spoke of him. Through suffering and death, he would save fallen humankind. He will only strengthen the weak and will never discourage them. He will lift up the fallen ones. Yes, Jesus came for you and me who are weary and brokenhearted; in him we shall always have hope and strength.

1ère lecture : Mi 2, 1-5
Malheur à ceux qui préparent leur mauvais coup et, du fond de leur lit, élaborent le mal ! Au point du jour, ils l’exécutent car c’est en leur pouvoir. S’ils convoitent des champs, ils s’en emparent ; des maisons, ils les prennent ; ils saisissent le maître et sa maison, l’homme et son héritage. Pourquoi, Seigneur, es-tu si loin? Pourquoi te cacher aux jours d’angoisse ? L’impie, dans son orgueil, poursuit les malheureux: ils se font prendre aux ruses qu’il invente.
L’impie se glorifie du désir de son âme, l’arrogant blasphème, il brave le Seigneur; plein de suffisance, l’impie ne cherche plus : « Dieu n’est rien», voilà toute sa ruse.
Sa bouche qui maudit n’est que fraude et violence, sa langue, mensonge et blessure. Il se tient à l’affût près des villages, il se cache pour tuer l’innocent.
Mais tu as vu : tu regardes le mal et la souffrance, tu les prends dans ta main ; sur toi repose le faible, c’est toi qui viens en aide à l’orphelin.

Alléluia. Alléluia ! Dans le Christ, Dieu réconciliait le monde avec lui : il a mis dans notre bouche la parole de la réconciliation. Alléluia ! (cf. 2 Co 5, 19)

En ce temps- là, une fois sortis de la synagogue, les pharisiens se réunirent en conseil contre Jésus pour voir comment le faire périr. Jésus, l’ayant appris, se retira de là ; beaucoup de gens le suivirent, et il les guérit tous. Mais il leur défendit vivement de parler de lui. Ainsi devait s’accomplir la parole prononcée par le prophète Isaïe : Voici mon serviteur que j’ai choisi, mon bien- aimé en qui je trouve mon bonheur. Je ferai reposer sur lui mon Esprit, aux nations il fera connaître le jugement. Il ne cherchera pas querelle, il ne criera pas, on n’entendra pas sa voix sur les places publiques. Il n’écrasera pas le roseau froissé, il n’éteindra pas la mèche qui faiblit, jusqu’à ce qu’il ait fait triompher le jugement. Les nations mettront en son nom leur espérance.

Méditation
Les pharisiens, c’est-à-dire les docteurs de la Loi, s’acharnent contre Jésus parce qu’il a guéri un malade le jour du sabbat. On ne pouvait pas venir en aide à l’homme le jour du sabbat, mais on pouvait venir en aide à un animal ce jour. Dans cette logique, l’homme aurait été créé pour le sabbat, pour sanctifier ce jour. Jésus s’oppose à une telle logique, pour lui, le premier c’est l’homme et nom un jour, aussi saint soit-il. Parce que Jésus défend la vie humaine, les hommes décident de l’éliminer, de tuer Dieu. Dieu est alors obligé de se retirer de là, et, il continue son œuvre tout en interdisant aux bénéficiaires de parler de lui. Oui, il y a des moments dans la vie où il faut faire profil bas, faire le bien sans qu’on ne sache qui est à l’origine de telles merveilles. C’est donc un appel à la prudence, mais pas à la peur. Nous devons continuer de faire le bien, mais sans faire de bruit.

Je vais ajouter quinze années à ta vie. Je te délivrerai, toi et cette ville, de la main du roi d’Assour, je protégerai cette ville. » Puis Isaïe dit : « Qu’on apporte un gâteau de figues ; qu’on l’applique sur l’ulcère, et le roi vivra. » Ézékias dit : « À quel signe reconnaîtrai-je que je pourrai monter à la maison du Seigneur ? – Voici le signe que le Seigneur te donne pour montrer qu’il accomplira sa promesse: Je vais faire reculer de dix degrés l’ombre qui est déjà descendue sur le cadran solaire d’Acaz. » Et le soleil remonta sur le cadran les dix degrés qu’il avait déjà descendus.

“Je veux la miséricorde et non les sacrifices”. La religion doit être libératrice pour l’homme ; mais les scribes et les pharisiens en avaient fait asservissante au nom de Dieu et de la Loi. Le repos du sabbat était au début une loi humanitaire au service de l’homme ; mais les scribes l’ont converti en une institution sacrée pour être servie par l’homme. Face à un tel renversement, le Christ ne pouvait que les affronter ouvertement. Le repos du sabbat, ainsi que tout ce qui relève de la lecture humaine, n’est pas un absolu. Il a des limites dues à la nécessité humaine qui est au-dessus de la loi du samedi. Le choc avec les pharisiens donne l’occasion à Jésus d’affirmer son identité : il est le Fils de l’homme, le Messie, maître du sabbat. Oui, l’homme est au-dessus de toutes instituions humaines quand se jouent sa liberté et sa dignité. Il n’est pas question ici d’humanitarisme, mais de la volonté de Dieu.

Meditation The Sabbath was one of the main identity markers for the Jews that set them apart from the Gentiles. Sabbath observance was considered as an expression of covenant loyalty to the God of Israel. The Pharisees considered the picking the heads of grain and eating them by the disciples of Jesus as violation of the Sabbath. Jesus disagrees with them and he calls the disciples as “innocent men.” In defending the action of the disciples he gives two examples: David and his men eating the consecrated bread that could be eaten only by priests and the priests serving in the temple on the Sabbath day. In both cases their actions were considered as innocent. Sabbath is a divine institution (Gen 2:3) and as God’s Son he has authority over how the Sabbath law is to be observed. He is the Lord of the Sabbath.

Prière d’ouverture
Dieu qui montres aux égarés la lumière de ta vérité pour qu’ils puissent reprendre le bon chemin, donne à tous ceux qui se déclarent chrétiens de rejeter ce qui est indigne de ce nom, et de rechercher ce qui lui fait honneur. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Is 26, 7-9.12.16-19
Il est droit, le chemin du juste ; toi qui es droit, tu aplanis le sentier du juste. Oui, sur le chemin de tes jugements, Seigneur, nous t’espérons. Dire ton nom, faire mémoire de toi, c’est le désir de l’âme. Mon âme, la nuit, te désire, et mon esprit, au fond de moi, te guette dès l’aurore. Quand s’exercent tes jugements sur la terre, les habitants du monde apprennent la justice. Seigneur, tu nous assures la paix : dans toutes nos œuvres, toi-même agis pour nous. Seigneur, dans la détresse on a recours à toi ; quand tu envoies un châtiment, on s’efforce de le conjurer. Nous étions devant toi, Seigneur, comme la femme enceinte sur le point d’enfanter, qui se tord et crie dans les douleurs. Nous avons conçu, nous avons été dans les douleurs, mais nous n’avons enfanté que du vent: nous n’apportons pas le salut à la terre, nul habitant du monde ne vient à la vie. Tes morts revivront, leurs cadavres se lèveront. Ils se réveilleront, crieront de joie, ceux qui demeurent dans la poussière, car ta rosée, Seigneur, est rosée de lumière, et le pays des ombres redonnera la vie.
Psaume : 101 (102), 13-15, 16-18, 19-21
R/Du ciel, le Seigneur regarde la terre.
Toi, Seigneur, tu es là pour toujours; d’âge en âge on fera mémoire de toi. Toi, tu montreras ta tendresse pour Sion ; il est temps de la prendre en pitié : l’heure est venue. Tes serviteurs ont pitié de ses ruines, ils aiment jusqu’à sa poussière.
Les nations craindront le nom du Seigneur, et tous les rois de la terre, sa gloire : quand le Seigneur rebâtira Sion, quand il apparaîtra dans sa gloire, il se tournera vers la prière du spolié, il n’aura pas méprisé sa prière.
Que cela soit écrit pour l’âge à venir, et le peuple à nouveau créé chantera son Dieu : « Des hauteurs, son sanctuaire, le Seigneur s’est penché ; du ciel, il regarde la terre pour entendre la plainte des captifs et libérer ceux qui devaient mourir. »

En ce temps-là, Jésus prit la parole et dit : « Venez à moi, vous tous qui peinez sous le poids du fardeau, et moi, je vous procurerai le repos. Prenez sur vous mon joug, devenez mes disciples, car je suis doux et humble de cœur, et vous trouverez le repos pour votre âme. Oui, mon joug est facile à porter, et mon fardeau, léger. »

Nourris de ton eucharistie, nous te supplions, Seigneur : Chaque fois que nous célébrons ce mystère, fais grandir en nous ton œuvre de salut. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Saint Matthieu met en parallèle le joug de la Loi de Moïse qui était très dur dans son application et le joug du Christ beaucoup plus léger, puisqu’il est un élan d’amour du cœur de Dieu. Oui, il nous faut la loi, mais comme un enfant a besoin d’un pédagogue pour former son cœur afin de le débarrasser des bourgeonnements qui peuvent lui être néfastes à l’âge adulte. Notre pédagogue, Jésus-Christ, nous dit qu’il est doux et humble de cœur. Jésus nous libère de toutes formes d’esclavage physique et spirituel afin que nous soyons des défenseurs de la liberté.
