Also known as St John the Hesychast he was a Christian saint known for living alone for seventy-six years. He was given the surname because he loved recollection and silence.

First reading : Acts 19:1-8
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul made his way overland as far as Ephesus, where he found a number of disciples. When he asked, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?’ they answered, ‘No, we were never even told there was such a thing as a Holy Spirit.’ ‘Then how were you baptised?’ he asked. ‘With John’s baptism’ they replied. ‘John’s baptism’ said Paul ‘was a baptism of repentance; but he insisted that the people should believe in the one who was to come after him – in other words, Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the moment Paul had laid hands on them the Holy Spirit came down on them, and they began to speak with tongues and to prophesy. There were about twelve of these men. He began by going to the synagogue, where he spoke out boldly and argued persuasively about the kingdom of God. He did this for three months.

Meditation
One of the greatest handicaps of the Christian life is fear. In scripture, Jesus reminded us often not to be afraid, but many of us are still scared. We fear our enemies, we fear the future, we fear to lose our jobs, we fear to fall ill, we fear poverty and above all, we fear death. These fears prevent us from practising our faith in a manner worthy of our calling. Jesus gives us reason to cast off all fear today in the Gospel text when he says: ‘be brave, I have conquered the world’. Being brave must therefore be the mark of all Christians. We must be brave in our faith. Let us pray for the grace to cast off all fear and face the world without fear.

1ère lecture : Act. 19, 1-8
Pendant qu’Apollos était à Corinthe, Paul traversait le haut pays; il arriva à Éphèse, où il trouva quelques disciples. Il leur demanda : « Lorsque vous êtes devenus croyants, avez-vous reçu l’Esprit Saint ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Nous n’avons même pas entendu dire qu’il y a un Esprit Saint. » Paul reprit : « Quel baptême avez-vous donc reçu ? » Ils répondirent: « Celui de Jean le Baptiste.» Paul dit alors : « Jean donnait un baptême de conversion :il disait au peuple de croire en celui qui devait venir après lui, c’est-à-dire en Jésus.» Après l’avoir entendu, ils se firent baptiser au nom du Seigneur Jésus. Méditation
La vie du disciple, disait un saint, consiste en une vie d’obéissance parfaite au Christ et ipso facto à Dieu le père. Toutefois il convient de se le rappeler soi-même que suivre le Christ c’est accepter les contrariétés, les calomnies, les persécutions. C’est le salaire des amis du Seigneur, parfaits ennemis du monde cependant. La promesse de la victoire du Christ tout de même reste pour le chrétien la seule consolation. O Seigneur tu es mon espérance et mon salut garde moi de ne jamais me détourner de toi. Amen !

Meditation
Today’s Gospel is the beginning of the great Eucharistic prayer of Jesus, in which he asks the Father to maintain the Church in unity and keep her safe from the evil one. As Jesus points out in his prayer, the Church is in the world but is not of the world; she is exposed to the world’s hatred because she condemns the world’s ways. The role of the Church is to be the light that shines in the darkness of the world. She is meant to provoke consciences by speaking uncomfortable truths, denouncing the world’s vices and defending the values of peace, love, justice and mercy. She can only accomplish this mission if her members are united in love, just as Jesus and the Father are one. Let us pray for our Mother, the Church, that God may teach us to show genuine love for one another, support each other in our faith, and defend with courage the message of the Gospel.

L’extrait de la grande prière de Jésus que l’Église nous propose aujourd’hui, indique des traits qui définissent le vrai disciple. D’abord, la fidélité au nom du Père, qui implique que nous nous reconnaissions comme fils. Ensuite, un cadeau reçu : le don de la Parole de Dieu. Par ailleurs, le rapport avec le monde a ceci de spécial que le disciple y évolue, mais sans en être. Le disciple est un consacré (plus littéralement, sanctifié dans la vérité): dans la langue de Jésus, l’expression implique une séparation, une mise à part. Enfin, le vrai disciple ne fonctionne pas en vase clos, comme replié sur lui-même et sur sa communauté d’appartenance immédiate ; il est l’envoyé dans le monde. Somme toute, le disciple fait partie d’un peuple élu et contribue efficacement à sa construction, pourvu qu’il veille à ne pas déserter et se perdre, à l’exemple de Judas, l’un des Douze.
Après avoir entendu les enseignements de saint Eutrope (3e siècle), elle demanda le baptême. Parce qu’elle refusait tous les prétendants et qu’elle s’obstinait dans sa foi, son père la fit mettre à mort dans les arènes des Saintes, sa région natale. Elle fut choisie par les évêques de La Rochelle et Saintes comme patronne de la jeunesse chrétienne.

1ère lecture : Act. 18, 23-28
Après avoir passé quelque temps à Antioche, Paul partit. Il parcourut successivement le pays galate et la Phrygie, en affermissant tous les disciples. Or, un Juif nommé Apollos, originaire d’Alexandrie, venait d’arriver à Éphèse. C’était un homme éloquent, versé dans les Écritures. Il avait été instruit du Chemin du Seigneur ; dans la ferveur de l’Esprit, il parlait et enseignait avec précision ce qui concerne Jésus, mais, comme baptême, il ne connaissait que celui de Jean le Baptiste. Il se mit donc à parler avec assurance à la synagogue. Quand Priscille et Aquila l’entendirent, ils le prirent à part et lui exposèrent avec plus de précision le Chemin de Dieu. Comme Apollos voulait se rendre en Grèce, les frères l’y encouragèrent, et écrivirent aux disciples de lui faire bon accueil. Quand il fut arrivé, il rendit de grands services à ceux qui étaient devenus croyants par la grâce de Dieu. En effet, avec vigueur il réfutait publiquement les Juifs, en démontrant par les Écritures que le Christ, c’est Jésus.

La récompense pour le serviteur qui se garde fidèle est l’amour de Dieu le père. Comme disciple du maitre, Fils de Dieu, Jésus ouvre à ses serviteurs une plus grande connaissance du visage de Dieu le père lequel se fait particulièrement proche des bien-aimés de son divin Fils. Ainsi chaque fidèle du Christ est appelé à s’examiner soi-même afin de découvrir de quel amour il se fait proche du Fils, amour traduit par la reconnaissance de Jésus-Christ comme Fils unique du Père venu dans le monde pour sauver l’humanité. En toi Seigneur repose ma confiance. Amen !

Paul came down to Antioch, where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and then through Phrygia, encouraging all the followers. An Alexandrian Jew named Apollos now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a sound knowledge of the scriptures, and yet, though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual earnestness and was accurate in all the details he taught about Jesus, he had only experienced the baptism of John. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him speak boldly in the synagogue, they took an interest in him and gave him further instruction about the Way. When Apollos thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God’s grace to help the believers considerably by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public and demonstrated from the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

Meditation
Jesus makes an exciting promise to the Apostles in today’s Gospel text. He gave them an open check. If someone were to openly tell us that anything we ask for, we shall receive, only heaven knows the kind of things we shall be asking for. But when Jesus specifies that anything we ask for in his name means far more than the eye can see. It means the thing must conform to God’s will because the name of Jesus cannot be used for something contrary to his will. Left to us, our demands are as unlimited as the skies, but God alone knows the things that we need. He alone knows the needs that are not harmful to us, and he will give us only that which is good for us at a particular time. There is a strong temptation to think that our prayers are not answered when we do not receive directly the things we pray for since Jesus made this promise, but the promise is only reasonable when situated in the context of the will of God. Let us, therefore, pray for the grace to know our basic needs and ask only for them when we pray.
Du 1er avril au 09 mai 2024, le TRP Henry Omonisaye, cmf a effectué une visite canonique au Cameroun. Après avoir visité toutes nos communautés et notre mission, parlé avec chaque membre de la délégation et dialogué avec certains évêques, le 6 mai 2024 a été une journée très spéciale pour notre délégation. Ce fut une journée de trois réunions très importantes
1. Rencontre avec les Supérieurs locaux et les membres du Conseil élargi
La rencontre a commencé à 8h30 par l’Adoration Eucharistique. Par la suite, le TRP Henry Omonisaye, cmf a fait écho de sa visite dans la Délégation. En passant par les trois processus de transformation, il a exposé les semences de vie et les mauvaises herbes dans la délégation. Il a remercié les frères pour leur vocation et pour les signes visibles de croissance de notre Délégation. Il les a tous encouragé à continuer à servir Dieu dans leurs différentes communautés et missions. Il a félicité la Délégation pour la croissance significative depuis la dernière visite canonique qui a eu lieu en 2017. Enfin, il a insisté sur la nécessité de réorganiser nos différentes communautés et de promouvoir « Ut Unum Sint » au sein de la Délégation.
2. Rencontre avec la Préfecture de Bible et Communication, les Cybermissionnaires, le Secrétaire et le Conseil
En sa qualité de Préfet Général de la Bible et de la Communication, le Père Henry a eu une formation avec les membres de cette préfecture. Il a expliqué les différentes composantes de la préfecture. Il a également encouragé la délégation à poursuivre toutes les grandes initiatives dans le ministère et les publications bibliques. Sur cette note, il a prié pour que les initiatives telles que les Semaines bibliques, les quiz bibliques, les festivals bibliques et la copie de la Bible « Scriptura » se poursuivent. Il a encouragé l’équipe à continuer à servir au renforcement du ministère de la pastorale biblique dans les diocèses, comme l’ont demandé certains évêques. Le Père Henry a également remercié les membres pour les services de traduction.
3. Rencontre avec le Conseil
La dernière réunion de la journée était avec les membres du conseil. Après avoir fait un aperçu général de la visite, le Père Henry a remercié les membres pour avoir si bien organisé la visite et a insisté sur la nécessité du travail en équipe et de la confidentialité entre les membres.
La visite à la Délégation a été vraiment un moment d’animation. Le visiteur a encouragé les membres à garder la fraternité et la fidélité comme mots d’ordre. Dans une messe d’action de grâce pour clôturer officiellement la visite, le 8 mai 2024, le Supérieur Majeur a remercié et félicité le Père Henry d’avoir cheminé avec la Délégation et visité même les périphéries les plus difficiles. Pendant les prières d’intercession, le P. Henry a officiellement clôturé la visite. A la fin de la messe, il a encore remercié la Délégation pour la croissance significative et a prié pour tous les membres.
Nous remercions le Père Général d’avoir envoyé le Père Henry à notre Délégation pour la Visite Canonique.
After visiting all our communities and mission, talking to each member of the Delegation and dialogues with some Bishops, May 06 was a very special day for our Delegation. It was a day of three very important meetings.
1. Meeting with local Superiors and members of the enlarged Council
The meeting began at 8.30am with Eucharistic Adoration. Afterwards, VRF Henry Omonisaye, cmf made an echo of his visit in the Delegation. Going through the three processes of transformation, he expounded on the seeds of life and weeds in the Delegation. He thanked the brothers for their vocation and for the visible signs of growth in our Delegation. He encouraged all to continue serving God in their various communities and missions. He praised the Delegation for the significant growth from the last canonical visit that took place in 2017. Finally he insisted on the need of reorganising of our different communities and promoting the “Ut Unum Sint” in the Delegation.
2. Meeting with the Préfecture or Bible and Communications, Cybermissionaries, Secretary, and Council
In his capacity as General Prefect of Bible and Communication, Fr Henry had a formation with members of this prefecture. He explained the various components of the prefecture. He equally encouraged the Delegation to continue all the great initiatives in the Bible ministry and publications. On this note, he prayed that initiatives like Bible Weeks, Bible Quizzes, Bible Festivals, and Scriptura Bible Copying should continue. He encouraged the team to continue serving to strengthen the Biblical Pastoral Ministry in Dioceses as requested by some Bishops. Father Henry also thanked the members for the services in translations.
3. Meeting with the Council
The last meeting of the day was with the council members. After making a general overview of the visit, Fr Henry thanked the members for organising the visit so well and insisted on the need for teamwork and confidentiality among the members.
The visit to the Delegation was really a time of animation. The visitor encouraged the members to keep fraternity and fidelity as watchwords. In a Thanksgiving mass to officially close the visit, the Major Superior, on May 8, 2024, for journeying with the Delegation and visiting even the most challenging peripheries. During the intercessory prayers, Fr. Henry officially closed the visit. At the end of the mass, he again thanked the Delegation for the significant growth and prayed for all the members.
We thank Father General for sending Father Henry to our Delegation for the Canonical Visitation.

I have so many people on my side in this city that no one will even attempt to hurt you.’ So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months. But, while Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal. ‘We accuse this man’ they said ‘of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.’ Before Paul could open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, ‘Listen, you Jews. If this were a misdemeanour or a crime, I would not hesitate to attend to you; but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with it yourselves-I have no intention of making legal decisions about things like that.’ Then he sent them out of the court, and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of the court house. Gallio refused to take any notice at all. After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.

Meditation
The adage goes that nothing good comes easy and life experience has taught us that there no sweet without sweat. The Gospel of today amplifies this adage in a very practical way when Jesus promises the apostles a very difficult road to glory. He tells the apostles «I tell you solemnly, you will be weeping and wailing while the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy». In this way he described the road that the apostles were to follow to glory. There is no easy match to glory. But our greatest challenge is that we have a new breed of Christians who avoid any form of sacrifice, pain or discomfort. They want to have heaven in a platter of gold: fasting is too hard for them, prayers are too long, kneeling to pray is uncomfortable, mass is boring etc. Such Christians need to review their intentions else they may be on the wide road to perdition.

1ère lecture : Ac 18, 9-18
À Corinthe, une nuit, le Seigneur dit à Paul dans une vision : « Sois sans crainte : parle, ne garde pas le silence. Je suis avec toi, et personne ne s’en prendra à toi pour te maltraiter, car dans cette ville j’ai pour moi un peuple nombreux. » Paul y séjourna un an et demi et il enseignait parmi les Corinthiens la parole de Dieu. Sous le proconsulat de Gallion en Grèce, les Juifs, unanimes, se dressèrent contre Paul et l’amenèrent devant le tribunal, en disant : « La manière dont cet individu incite les gens à adorer le Dieu unique est contraire à la loi. » Au moment où Paul allait ouvrir la bouche, Gallion déclara aux Juifs : « S’il s’agissait d’un délit ou d’un méfait grave, je recevrais votre plainte à vous, Juifs, comme il se doit. Mais s’il s’agit de débats sur des mots, sur des noms et sur la Loi qui vous est propre, cela vous regarde. Être juge en ces affaires, moi je m’y refuse. » Et il les chassa du tribunal. Tous alors se saisirent de Sosthène, chef de synagogue, et se mirent à le frapper devant le tribunal, tandis que Gallion restait complètement indifférent. Paul demeura encore assez longtemps à Corinthe. Puis il fit ses adieux aux frères et s’embarqua pour la Syrie, accompagné de Priscille et d’Aquila. À Cencrées, il s’était fait raser la tête, car le vœu qui le liait avait pris fin.

Méditation
La séparation d’avec un être cher est toujours cause d’émoi de tristesse, voire source d’effondrement. Tout compte fait celle du maître d’avec ses apôtres s’annonce chargée d’émotion. C’est tout l’intérêt du Christ à ses disciples dans la mission qu’Il leur laisse de les réconforter autant que rassurer de sa divine présence si tant est vrai que tout ne sera plus comme avant. Aussi ce message d’espoir est adressé à chacun de nous chrétien de ne pas faiblir dans notre marche à la suite du Christ et de continuer à œuvrer à la moisson du Seigneur pour sa plus grande gloire. Avec ta servante Ste Solange, que rien ne nous empêche Seigneur de nous unir à toi. Amen !!!
