She was born in County Limerick, at a place now called Killeedy after her. She was known for her sanctity and for her gift of prophecy and was held in veneration by a large number of saints, both men and women.

First reading : 1 Samuel 15:16-23
Samuel said to Saul, ‘Stop! Let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night.’ Saul said, ‘Tell me.’ Samuel continued, ‘Small as you may be in your own eyes, are you not head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord has anointed you king over Israel. The Lord sent you on a mission and said to you, “Go, put these sinners, the Amalekites, under the ban and make war on them until they are exterminated.” Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you fall on the booty and do what is displeasing to the Lord?’ Saul replied to Samuel, ‘But I did obey the voice of the Lord. I went on the mission which the Lord gave me; I brought back Agag king of the Amalekites; I put the Amalekites under the ban. Rebellion is a sin of sorcery, presumption a crime of teraphim. ‘Since you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.’

One day when John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, some people came to Jesus and said to him, ‘Why is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of fasting while the bridegroom is still with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they could not think of fasting. But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then, on that day, they will fast. No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak; if he does, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse. And nobody puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins too. No! New wine, fresh skins!’

Meditation
Why did Jesus and his disciples not fast like John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees? The question of fasting brought about contention between him and the religious authorities. He showed that a new age had dawned with his coming. He compared his message and ministry to the merriment and happiness of a wedding feast. The good news of salvation should bring joy, not gloom. The new Christian faith cannot just be patched onto the old Jewish rituals or our traditional religions. Jesus has identified himself as the Bridegroom, the Saviour, the Anointed one of Israel. His incarnation, life, ministry, death and resurrection have given birth to a new humanity. A new creation filled and moved by the Holy Spirit

Le baptême du roi des Francs et de son armée par Remi (496) est à l’origine du rôle que joua la France dans l’histoire de l’Église et qui la fit appeler ‘’la fille aînée de l’Église’’.

Dans le butin, le peuple a choisi le meilleur de ce qui était voué à l’anathème, petit et gros bétail, pour l’offrir en sacrifice au Seigneur ton Dieu, à Guilgal.» Samuel répliqua: «Le Seigneur aime-t-il les holocaustes et les sacrifices autant que l’obéissance à sa parole? Oui, l’obéissance vaut mieux que le sacrifice, la docilité vaut mieux que la graisse des béliers. La révolte est un péché comme la divination; la rébellion est une faute comme la consultation des idoles. Parce que tu as rejeté la parole du Seigneur, lui aussi t’a rejeté: tu ne seras plus roi!»

En ce temps-là, comme les disciples de Jean le Baptiste et les pharisiens jeûnaient, on vint demander à Jésus : « Pourquoi, alors que les disciples de Jean et les disciples des Pharisiens jeûnent, tes disciples ne jeûnent-ils pas ? » Jésus leur dit : « Les invités de la noce pourraient-ils jeûner, pendant que l’Époux est avec eux ? Tant qu’ils ont l’Époux avec eux, ils ne peuvent pas jeûner. Mais des jours viendront où l’Époux leur sera enlevé ; alors, ce jour-là, ils jeûneront. Personne ne raccommode un vieux vêtement avec une pièce d’étoffe neuve; autrement le morceau neuf ajouté tire sur le vieux tissu et la déchirure s’agrandit. Ou encore, personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres ; car alors, le vin fera éclater les outres, et l’on perd à la fois le vin et les outres. À vin nouveau, outres neuves. »

Méditation
Le roi Saül ! Il n’a pas pu être fidèle à s’ajuster durablement sur la volonté de Dieu. Cette inconstance nous est tous caractéristique aussi. Conscients de notre faible enracinement dans le Christ, le jeûne du péché pourrait bien nous être utile. En effet, le bien-fondé du jeûne se trouve là, dans la recherche de la consistance et de la solidité de notre relation avec Dieu. Il consiste aussi à nous débarrasser du vieilli, qui a perdu de son actualité et de son intérêt, pour nous installer dans la vie nouvelle dont Jésus-Christ est le ferment.

1ère lecture : 1 Samuel 3, 3-10,19
En ces jours-là, le jeune Samuel était couché dans le temple du Seigneur à Silo,où se trouvait l’arche de Dieu. Le Seigneur appela Samuel, qui répondit : « Me voici ! » Il courut vers le prêtre Éli, et il dit : « Tu m’as appelé, me voici. » Éli répondit: « Je n’ai pas appelé. Retourne te coucher. » L’enfant alla se coucher. De nouveau, le Seigneur appela Samuel. Et Samuel se leva. Il alla auprès d’Éli, et il dit : « Tu m’as appelé, me voici. » Éli répondit : « Je n’ai pas appelé, mon fils. Retourne te coucher. » Samuel ne connaissait pas encore le Seigneur, et la parole du Seigneur ne lui avait pas encore été révélée. De nouveau, le Seigneur appela Samuel. Celui-ci se leva. Il alla auprès d’Éli, et il dit: « Tu m’as appelé, me voici. »Alors Éli comprit que c’était le Seigneur qui appelait l’enfant, et il lui dit : « Va te recoucher, et s’il t’appelle, tu diras : “Parle, Seigneur, ton serviteur écoute.”» Samuel alla se recoucher à sa place habituelle. Le Seigneur vint, il se tenait là et il appela comme les autres fois : « Samuel! Samuel ! » Et Samuel répondit: « Parle, ton serviteur écoute. » Samuel grandit. Le Seigneur était avec lui, et il ne laissa aucune de ses paroles sans effet.

D’un grand espoir, j’espérais le Seigneur : il s’est penché vers moi. En ma bouche il a mis un chant nouveau, une louange à notre Dieu.

2ème lecture : 1 Co 6, 13-15,17-20
Frères, le corps n’est pas pour la débauche, il est pour le Seigneur, et le Seigneur est pour le corps ; et Dieu, par sa puissance, a ressuscité le Seigneur et nous ressuscitera nous aussi. Ne le savez-vous pas? Vos corps sont les membres du Christ. Celui qui s’unit au Seigneur ne fait avec lui qu’un seul esprit. Fuyez la débauche. Tous les péchés que l’homme peut commettre sont extérieurs à son corps ; mais l’homme qui se livre à la débauche commet un péché contre son propre corps. Ne le savez-vous pas ? Votre corps est un sanctuaire de l’Esprit Saint, lui qui est en vous et que vous avez reçu de Dieu; vous ne vous appartenez plus à vous-mêmes, car vous avez été achetés à grand prix.Rendez donc gloire à Dieu dans votre corps.

En ce temps-là, Jean le Baptiste se trouvait avec deux de ses disciples.
Posant son regard sur Jésus qui allait et venait, il dit : « Voici l’Agneau de Dieu. » Les deux disciples entendirent ce qu’il disait, et ils suivirent Jésus. Se retournant, Jésus vit qu’ils le suivaient, et leur dit : « Que cherchez-vous ? » Ils lui répondirent : « Rabbi – ce qui veut dire : Maître –, où demeures-tu ? » Il leur dit : « Venez, et vous verrez. »
Ils allèrent donc, ils virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là. C’était vers la dixième heure (environ quatre heures de l’après-midi). André, le frère de Simon-Pierre, était l’un des deux disciples qui avaient entendu la parole de Jean et qui avaient suivi Jésus. Il trouve d’abord Simon, son propre frère, et lui dit : « Nous avons trouvé le Messie » – ce qui veut dire: Christ. André amena son frère à Jésus. Jésus posa son regard sur lui et dit : « Tu es Simon, fils de Jean ; tu t’appelleras Kèphas » – ce qui veut dire : Pierre.

Méditation
Les disciples ont fait confiance à Jean le Baptiste. Et sur un mot de lui, ils suivent Jésus, celui qui est désigné comme l’Agneau de Dieu. Leur rencontre avec le Christ commence par cette question : Où demeures-tu ? Mais, aussitôt après, les disciples s’abandonnent au mystère. Jésus répond alors : Venez et voyez. Cette invitation à partager en toutes choses la vie de Jésus persuade les disciples que celui-ci est le Messie attendu. La rencontre avec Jésus Christ n’est pas un événement sans conséquences : c’est, tout d’abord, se sentir compris et aimé ; c’est changer de nom et, par-delà son nom, c’est changer complètement sa manière d’être : Tu es Simon… tu t’appelleras Kephas. Trouver Jésus, ou plutôt être trouvés par Jésus, ne change pas simplement notre existence, mais nous investit d’une mission : nous sommes alors appelés à annoncer le Salut, le cœur débordant de joie, en nous engageant nous aussi à partager avec les autres cette vie nouvelle, révélée dans le Christ.

évêque et docteur de l’Église

Né au début du 4e siècle , c’est en 350 qu’il devient évêque de Poitiers. Il combat de toutes ses forces l’arianisme et fut envoyé en exil par l’empereur Constantin . Il meurt en 367 et déclaré Docteur de l’Eglise en 1851 par Pie IX. Ses oeuvres ont contribué à consolider la foi de l’Eglise.

Portons notre regard vers l’homme à qui le ciel est donné pour trône; la foule des anges l’adore en chantant d’une seule voix : « Voici Celui dont le pouvoir subsiste pour les siècles ».

Aux appels de ton peuple en prière, réponds, Seigneur, en ta bonté : Donne à chacun la claire vision de ce qu’il doit faire et la force de l’accomplir. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : 1 S 9, 1-4.10c.17-19 ; 10
Il y avait dans la tribu de Benjamin un homme appelé Kish. C’était un homme de valeur. Il avait un fils appelé Saül, qui était jeune et beau. Aucun fils d’Israël n’était plus beau que lui, et il dépassait tout le monde de plus d’une tête. Les ânesses appartenant à Kish, père de Saül, s’étaient égarées. Kish dit à son fils Saül : « Prends donc avec toi l’un des serviteurs, et pars à la recherche des ânesses. » Ils traversèrent la montagne d’Éphraïm, ils traversèrent le pays de Shalisha sans les trouver; ils traversèrent le pays de Shaalim: elles n’y étaient pas ; ils traversèrent le pays de Benjamin sans les trouver. Alors ils allèrent à la ville où se trouvait l’homme de Dieu. Quand Samuel aperçut Saül, le Seigneur l’avertit: « Voilà l’homme dont je t’ai parlé; c’est lui qui exercera le pouvoir sur mon peuple. » Saül aborda Samuel à l’entrée de la ville et lui dit : « Indique-moi, je t’en prie, où est la maison du voyant. » Samuel répondit à Saül : « C’est moi le voyant. Monte devant moi au lieu sacré. Vous mangerez aujourd’hui avec moi. Demain matin, je te laisserai partir et je te renseignerai sur tout ce qui te préoccupe. » Le lendemain, Samuel prit la fiole d’huile et la répandit sur la tête de Saül ; puis il l’embrassa et lui dit: « N’est-ce pas le Seigneur qui te donne l’onction comme chef sur son héritage ? »

R/ Seigneur, le roi se réjouit de ta force.
Seigneur, le roi se réjouit de ta force; quelle allégresse lui donne ta victoire ! Tu as répondu au désir de son cœur, tu n’as pas rejeté le souhait de ses lèvres.
Tu lui destines bénédictions et bienfaits, tu mets sur sa tête une couronne d’or. La vie qu’il t’a demandée, tu la lui donnes, de longs jours, des années sans fin.
Par ta victoire, grandit son éclat : tu le revêts de splendeur et de gloire. Tu mets en lui ta bénédiction pour toujours : ta présence l’emplit de joie !

Évangile : Mc 2, 13-17
En ce temps-là, Jésus sortit de nouveau le long de la mer; toute la foule venait à lui, et il les enseignait. En passant, il aperçut Lévi, fils d’Alphée, assis au bureau des impôts. Il lui dit: « Suis-moi. » L’homme se leva et le suivit. Comme Jésus était à table dans la maison de Lévi, beaucoup de publicains (c’est-à-dire des collecteurs d’impôts) et beaucoup de pécheurs vinrent prendre place avec Jésus et ses disciples, car ils étaient nombreux à le suivre. Les scribes du groupe des pharisiens, voyant qu’il mangeait avec les pécheurs et les publicains, disaient à ses disciples: « Comment ! Il mange avec les publicains et les pécheurs!» Jésus, qui avait entendu, leur déclara : « Ce ne sont pas les gens bien portants qui ont besoin du médecin, mais les malades. Je ne suis pas venu appeler des justes, mais des pécheurs. »

Daigne accepter, Seigneur, l’offrande de ton peuple : Qu’elle contribue à le sanctifier, et lui obtienne ce qu’il demande avec confiance. Par Jésus.

Méditation
La qualité pastorale (aller à la recherche des ânesses égarées de son père) était déjà en Saül. Dieu le choisit pour justement conduire son peuple en tant que son premier roi humain. Ce choix, à la lumière de l’Évangile du jour et au fait que le Christ grand Pasteur vit en nous, nous éclaire sur notre vocation chrétienne : Dieu attend, par l’assomption de notre être chrétien dans un témoignage de vie conséquent, que nous ramenions à lui nos frères et soeurs qui se sont éconduits de son chemin d’amour et de vie.

Second reading: 1 Corinthians 6:13-15,17-20
The body is not meant for fornication: it is for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. God, who raised the Lord from the dead, will by his power raise us up too. You know, surely, that your bodies are members making up the body of Christ; do you think I can take parts of Christ’s body and join them to the body of a prostitute? Never! But anyone who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. Keep away from fornication. All the other sins are committed outside the body; but to fornicate is to sin against your own body. Your body, you know, is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you since you received him from God. You are not your own property; you have been bought and paid for. That is why you should use your body for the glory of God.

Meditation
Sociologists agree that the environment shapes a person’s behaviour. It is challenging for a person to stay in a place of chaos and a lot of evil and have a good character. On the other hand, a family built on the foundations of prayer and holiness is good soil for raising a child in good divine and human values. Today we are invited to reflect on God’s call to us. God calls us to stay with God, learn from God and finally send us to reveal God’s love to all people. God prepares the environment for each of us in a different way to be God’s instrument to spread God’s Gospel. The Gospel shows us the calling of the first followers of Christ. The Gospel narrative shows us that they were followers of John the Baptist, and he is the one who identifies Christ, saying: “ Look, there is the lamb of God “. Here we see the first characteristic of calling in the role of those who help us hear the voice of God’s calling. John the Baptist recognised Christ and accepted to point others to Christ. He gave Christ the right opportunity to do his redemptive work in the souls of all humanity.

évêque et docteur de l’Église

Né au début du 4e siècle , c’est en 350 qu’il devient évêque de Poitiers. Il combat de toutes ses forces l’arianisme et fut envoyé en exil par l’empereur Constantin . Il meurt en 367 et déclaré Docteur de l’Eglise en 1851 par Pie IX. Ses oeuvres ont contribué à consolider la foi de l’Eglise.

Il y avait dans la tribu de Benjamin un homme appelé Kish. C’était un homme de valeur. Il avait un fils appelé Saül, qui était jeune et beau. Aucun fils d’Israël n’était plus beau que lui, et il dépassait tout le monde de plus d’une tête. Les ânesses appartenant à Kish, père de Saül, s’étaient égarées. Kish dit à son fils Saül : « Prends donc avec toi l’un des serviteurs, et pars à la recherche des ânesses. » Ils traversèrent la montagne d’Éphraïm, ils traversèrent le pays de Shalisha sans les trouver; ils traversèrent le pays de Shaalim: elles n’y étaient pas ; ils traversèrent le pays de Benjamin sans les trouver. Alors ils allèrent à la ville où se trouvait l’homme de Dieu. Quand Samuel aperçut Saül, le Seigneur l’avertit: « Voilà l’homme dont je t’ai parlé; c’est lui qui exercera le pouvoir sur mon peuple. » Saül aborda Samuel à l’entrée de la ville et lui dit : « Indique-moi, je t’en prie, où est la maison du voyant. » Samuel répondit à Saül : « C’est moi le voyant. Monte devant moi au lieu sacré. Vous mangerez aujourd’hui avec moi. Demain matin, je te laisserai partir et je te renseignerai sur tout ce qui te préoccupe. » Le lendemain, Samuel prit la fiole d’huile et la répandit sur la tête de Saül ; puis il l’embrassa et lui dit: « N’est-ce pas le Seigneur qui te donne l’onction comme chef sur son héritage ? »

Seigneur, le roi se réjouit de ta force; quelle allégresse lui donne ta victoire ! Tu as répondu au désir de son cœur, tu n’as pas rejeté le souhait de ses lèvres.

Il lui dit: « Suis-moi. » L’homme se leva et le suivit. Comme Jésus était à table dans la maison de Lévi, beaucoup de publicains (c’est-à-dire des collecteurs d’impôts) et beaucoup de pécheurs vinrent prendre place avec Jésus et ses disciples, car ils étaient nombreux à le suivre. Les scribes du groupe des pharisiens, voyant qu’il mangeait avec les pécheurs et les publicains, disaient à ses disciples: « Comment ! Il mange avec les publicains et les pécheurs!» Jésus, qui avait entendu, leur déclara : « Ce ne sont pas les gens bien portants qui ont besoin du médecin, mais les malades. Je ne suis pas venu appeler des justes, mais des pécheurs. »

Méditation
La qualité pastorale (aller à la recherche des ânesses égarées de son père) était déjà en Saül. Dieu le choisit pour justement conduire son peuple en tant que son premier roi humain. Ce choix, à la lumière de l’Évangile du jour et au fait que le Christ grand Pasteur vit en nous, nous éclaire sur notre vocation chrétienne : Dieu attend, par l’assomption de notre être chrétien dans un témoignage de vie conséquent, que nous ramenions à lui nos frères et soeurs qui se sont éconduits de son chemin d’amour et de vie.

Meditation
In the 1st Reading and the Gospel, we see two men chosen by God. From all indications, Saul was the darling of the people of Israel and appeared to be a young man quite obedient to his father. Mathew (Levi), the tax collector, was hated by his people for being a tax collector – for tax collectors were seen as collaborators of the invading/occupying Roman powers. Saul was anointed as the king of Israel to govern and protect the lives and property of the people of Israel. Mathew was chosen to be an apostle – a companion of Jesus. Yet before that, he was a man in search of redemption, hated and rejected by his own people. All that changed when Jesus came calling – “Follow me!” That was all he needed to hear. He left everything and followed Jesus. He left a well-paying job but got a more decent living even if he was going to be poorer by human standards! He left everything but not his clerical skills symbolised by the pen. From him, the world received the written account of the life and words of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Les meilleurs de vos champs, de vos vignes et de vos oliveraies, il les prendra pour les donner à ses serviteurs. Sur vos cultures et vos vignes il prélèvera la dîme, pour la donner à ses dignitaires et à ses serviteurs. Quelques jours après la guérison d’un lépreux, Jésus revint à Capharnaüm, et l’on apprit qu’il était à la maison. Tant de monde s’y rassembla qu’il n’y avait plus de place, pas même devant la porte, et il leur annonçait la Parole. Arrivent des gens qui lui amènent un paralysé, porté par quatre hommes. Comme ils ne peuvent l’approcher à cause de la foule, ils découvrent le toit au-dessus de lui, ils font une ouverture, et descendent le brancard sur lequel était couché le paralysé. Voyant leur foi, Jésus dit au paralysé: « Mon enfant, tes péchés sont pardonnés.» Or, il y avait quelques scribes, assis là, qui raisonnaient en eux-mêmes: « Pourquoi celui-là parle-t-il ainsi? Il blasphème. Qui donc peut pardonner les péchés, sinon Dieu seul ? » Percevant aussitôt dans son esprit les raisonnements qu’ils se faisaient, Jésus leur dit : « Pourquoi tenez-vous de tels raisonnements? Qu’est-ce qui est le plus facile? Dire à ce paralysé: “Tes péchés sont pardonnés”, ou bien lui dire: “Lève-toi, prends ton brancard et marche” ? Eh bien ! Pour que vous sachiez que le Fils de l’homme a autorité pour pardonner les péchés sur la terre…– Jésus s’adressa au paralysé – je te le dis, lève-toi, prends ton brancard, et rentre dans ta maison. » Il se leva, prit aussitôt son brancard, et sortit devant tout le monde. Tous étaient frappés de stupeur et rendaient gloire à Dieu, en disant : « Nous n’avons jamais rien vu de pareil. »

Méditation Faire et être comme les autres, voilà une tentation de corruption et de compromission qui guette les chrétiens que nous sommes à tout instant, malgré tout ce que cela peut nous coûter. Contre ces faiblesses et fragilités, l’Evangile nous recommande le chemin d’une foi audacieuse, déterminée et inébranlable pour que nos voeux les plus nobles soient exaucés : la guérison spirituelle et physique dont Dieu seul est le gage et l’assurance.

Born in Troyes in France, she went to Canada at the age of 33, where she taught and devoted herself to works of corporal mercy and founded the Congregation of Notre-Dame de Montréal. She died on 12 January 1700.

He is blaspheming. Who can forgive sins but God?’ Jesus, inwardly aware that this was what they were thinking, said to them, ‘Why do you have these thoughts in your hearts? Which of these is easier: to say to the paralytic, “Your sins are forgiven” or to say, “Get up, pick up your stretcher and walk”? Meditation
The proliferation of “new generational” churches, with their promise of healing, miracles and riches, can indicate the misplaced belief that our greatest needs are physical. The healing and recovery of the paralytic by Jesus go beyond treating him of physical paralysis. Jesus forgives his sins and so heals him spiritually. This is utterly scandalous and offensive to his audience, who knew that only God could forgive sins. Jesus is thus identifying himself with God. When he tells us in confession, “I absolve you from your sins” he answers our greatest need.

It was he who struck down Egypt with every kind of plague! But take courage and be men, Philistines, or you will become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been slaves to you. Be men and fight.’ So the Philistines joined battle and Israel was defeated, each man fleeing to his tent. The slaughter was great indeed, and there fell of the Israelites thirty thousand foot soldiers. The ark of God was captured too, and the two sons of Eli died, Hophni and Phinehas.

Gospel : Mark 1:40-45
A leper came to Jesus and pleaded on his knees: ‘If you want to’ he said ‘you can cure me.’ Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. ‘Of course I want to!’ he said. ‘Be cured!’ And the leprosy left him at once and he was cured. Jesus immediately sent him away and sternly ordered him, ‘Mind you say nothing to anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for your healing prescribed by Moses as evidence of your recovery.’ The man went away, but then started talking about it freely and telling the story everywhere, so that Jesus could no longer go openly into any town, but had to stay outside in places where nobody lived. Even so, people from all around would come to him.

Meditation
Jesus carefully listens to the pleading voice of his afflicted people and attends to them. ‘Of course, I want to!’ He is eager to heal his people, free them from their afflictions, and cleanse them from their conditions. By touching and curing a leper, an outcast according to the law of Moses, Jesus makes himself an outcast. Jesus shows us by this action that we, too, must reach out to those on the margins of society. When we open our hearts to those whom society marginalises, we genuinely testify to the power of the Gospel to transform society.

Portons notre regard vers l’homme à qui le ciel est donné pour trône; la foule des anges l’adore en chantant d’une seule voix : « Voici Celui dont le pouvoir subsiste pour les siècles ».
Prière d’ouverture
Aux appels de ton peuple en prière, réponds, Seigneur, en ta bonté : Donne à chacun la claire vision de ce qu’il doit faire et la force de l’accomplir. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : 1 S 4, 1-11
En ces jours-là, Israël sortit pour aller combattre les Philistins. Israël campa près d’Ébène-Ézèr, tandis que les Philistins étaient campés à Apheq. Les Philistins se déployèrent contre Israël, et le combat s’engagea. Dans cette bataille rangée en rase campagne, Israël fut battu par les Philistins, qui tuèrent environ quatre mille hommes, et le peuple revint au camp. Les anciens d’Israël dirent alors : « Pourquoi le Seigneur nous a-t-il fait battre aujourd’hui par les Philistins ? Allons prendre à Silo l’arche de l’Alliance du Seigneur; qu’elle vienne au milieu de nous, et qu’elle nous sauve de la main de nos ennemis. » Le peuple envoya des gens à Silo ; ils en rapportèrent l’arche de l’Alliance du Seigneur des armées qui siège sur les Kéroubim. Les deux fils du prêtre Éli, Hofni et Pinhas, étaient là auprès de l’arche de Dieu. Quand l’Arche arriva au camp, tout Israël poussa une grande ovation qui fit résonner la terre. Les Philistins entendirent le bruit et dirent : « Que signifie cette grande ovation dans le camp des Hébreux ? » Ils comprirent alors que l’arche du Seigneur était arrivée dans le camp. Alors ils eurent peur, car ils se disaient: « Dieu est arrivé au camp des Hébreux. » Puis ils dirent: « Malheur à nous! Les choses ont bien changé depuis hier. Malheur à nous ! Qui nous délivrera de la main de ces dieux puissants? Ce sont eux qui ont frappé les Égyptiens de toutes sortes de calamités dans le désert. Soyez forts, Philistins, soyez des hommes courageux, pour ne pas être asservis aux Hébreux comme ils vous ont été asservis : soyez courageux et combattez!» Les Philistins livrèrent bataille, Israël fut battu et chacun s’enfuit à ses tentes. Ce fut un très grand désastre : en Israël trente mille soldats tombèrent. L’arche de Dieu fut prise, et les deux fils d’Éli, Hofni et Pinhas, moururent.

R/Sauve-nous, Seigneur, par ton amour.
Maintenant, tu nous humilies, tu nous rejettes, tu ne sors plus avec nos armées. Tu nous fais plier devant l’adversaire, et nos ennemis emportent le butin.
Tu nous exposes aux sarcasmes des voisins, aux rires, aux moqueries de l’entourage. Tu fais de nous la fable des nations; les étrangers haussent les épaules.
Réveille-toi ! Pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur ? Lève-toi ! Ne nous rejette pas pour toujours. Pourquoi détourner ta face, oublier notre malheur, notre misère ?
Acclamation
Alléluia, alléluia! Jésus proclamait l’Évangile du Royaume et guérissait toute infirmité dans le peuple. Alléluia. (cf. Mt 4, 23)
Évangile : Mc 1, 40-45
En ce temps-là, un lépreux vint auprès de Jésus; il le supplia et, tombant à ses genoux, lui dit: «Si tu le veux, tu peux me purifier.» Saisi de compassion, Jésus étendit la main, le toucha et lui dit: « Je le veux, sois purifié.» À l’instant même, la lèpre le quitta et il fut purifié. Avec fermeté, Jésus le renvoya aussitôt en lui disant: « Attention, ne dis rien à personne, mais va te montrer au prêtre, et donne pour ta purification ce que Moïse a prescrit dans la Loi: cela sera pour les gens un témoignage.» Une fois parti, cet homme se mit à proclamer et à répandre la nouvelle, de sorte que Jésus ne pouvait plus entrer ouvertement dans une ville, mais restait à l’écart, dans des endroits déserts. De partout cependant on venait à lui.
Prière sur les offrandes
Daigne accepter, Seigneur, l’offrande de ton peuple: Qu’elle contribue à le sanctifier, et lui obtienne ce qu’il demande avec confiance. Par Jésus.

Nous t’en supplions, Dieu tout-puissant: Toi qui refais nos forces par tes sacrements, donne-nous aussi de pouvoir te servir par une vie qui te plaise. Par Jésus.
Méditation
« Pourquoi le Seigneur nous a fait battre… ? » C’est là une question trouble que tous, à un moment donné de la vie, nous avons adressée au Seigneur. Au prisme de la Parole de ce jour, elle nous invite à un examen de conscience pour savoir si notre relation avec Dieu est au beau-fixe, si elle est intime. Si c’est pas le cas, en Jésus, Dieu est tout disposé à nous purifier des lèpres qui nous inscrivent en marge de son amour et qui nous rendent vulnérables au pouvoir du Mauvais.
