SAINT TURIBIUS OF MONGROVEJO
He was born in Spain in about 1538 and studied law at the University of Salamanca. He was named bishop of Lima in 1580. He was full of apostolic zeal. He died in Lima on 23 March 1606.

Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face.

We invoke your mercy in humble prayer, O Lord, that you may cause us, your servants, corrected by penance and schooled by good works, to persevere sincerely in your commands and come safely to the paschal festivities. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: Exodus 32: 7-14
The Lord spoke to Moses, “Go down now, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have apostatised. They have been quick to leave the way I marked out for them; they have made themselves a calf of molten metal and have worshipped it and offered it sacrifice. “Here is your God, Israel,” they have cried, “who brought you up from the land of Egypt!” The Lord said to Moses, “I can see how headstrong these people are! Leave me, now, my wrath shall blaze out against them and devour them; of you, however, I will make a great nation.” But Moses pleaded with the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your wrath blaze out against this people of yours whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with arm outstretched and mighty hand? They fashioned a calf at Horeb and worshipped an image of metal, exchanging the God who was their glory for the image of a bull that eats grass.

You sent messengers to John, and he gave his testimony to the truth: not that I depend on human testimony; no, it is for your salvation that I speak of this. John was a lamp alight and shining and for a time you were content to enjoy the light that he gave. But my testimony is greater than John’s: the works my Father has given me to carry out, these same works of mine testify that the Father has sent me. Besides, the Father who sent me bears witness to me himself. You have never heard his voice, you have never seen his shape, and his word finds no home in you because you do not believe in the one he has sent. “You study the Scriptures, believing that in them you have eternal life; now these same Scriptures testify to me, and yet you refuse to come to me for life! As for human approval, this means nothing to me. Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you. Meditation
Jesus rebukes us on this day for our hardness to believe. John the Baptist testified to Jesus not only by acknowledging that the latter was greater than he was, but also by presenting him as the lamb of God. But the people did not understand and did not believe. Jesus acts with power and authority by performing great signs that testify to the coming of the kingdom, yet people do not believe. They do not recognize in Him the liberator and the envoy of God. They claim to follow the law of Moses, but in reality they do not practice it. And it is because they do not practice the law of Moses that he will be their own judge. For he who truly follows Moses should also follow Jesus. Let us open our hearts to the word of the Lord and recognize Jesus as our true saviour.

May your heavenly gifts, O Lord, we pray, which you bestow as a heavenly remedy on your people, not bring judgement to those who receive them. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Jesus came into the world to do the will of God. This will of God is that men should have life. And for us to have life, we must listen to and believe in Jesus. But in the Gospel, we see this closure of the Jews to Jesus’ message. They oppose Him and do not want to recognize that He is the Son of God. By refusing to listen to and believe in Him, they are rejecting God’s salvation. Jesus tells us something fundamental today, life is given to us and we have the choice to accept it or not. Indeed, the Gospel is a proposal of this salvation offered to all. It is up to us to make the right choice; it is up to us to take the path of life. Each one of us is this dead person to whom Jesus grants resurrection and life if we believe in his word of love and put it into practice.

Evangile : Jn 5, 1-16
À l’occasion d’une fête juive, Jésus monta à Jérusalem. Or, à Jérusalem, près de la porte des Brebis, il existe une piscine qu’on appelle en hébreu Bethzatha. Elle a cinq colonnades, sous lesquelles étaient couchés une foule de malades, aveugles, boiteux et impotents. Il y avait là un homme qui était malade depuis trente-huit ans. Jésus, le voyant couché là, et apprenant qu’il était dans cet état depuis longtemps, lui dit : « Veux- tu être guéri ? » Le malade lui répondit : « Seigneur, je n’ai personne pour me plonger dans la piscine au moment où l’eau bouillonne; et pendant que j’y vais, un autre descend avant moi. » Jésus lui dit: « Lève- toi, prends ton brancard, et marche. » Et aussitôt l’homme fut guéri. Il prit son brancard: il marchait! Or, ce jour-là était un jour de sabbat. Les Juifs dirent donc à cet homme que Jésus avait remis sur pied: « C’est le sabbat ! Il ne t’est pas permis de porter ton brancard. » Il leur répliqua: « Celui qui m’a guéri, c’est lui qui m’a dit : “Prends ton brancard, et marche !” » Ils l’interrogèrent : « Quel est l’homme qui t’a dit: “Prends ton brancard, et marche” ? » Mais celui qui avait été rétabli ne savait pas qui c’était; en effet, Jésus s’était éloigné, car il y avait foule à cet endroit. Plus tard, Jésus le retrouve dans le Temple et lui dit : « Te voilà guéri. Ne pèche plus, il pourrait t’arriver quelque chose de pire. » L’homme partit annoncer aux Juifs que c’était Jésus qui l’avait guéri. Et ceux-ci persécutaient Jésus parce qu’il avait fait cela le jour du sabbat.

Nous te présentons, Seigneur, des biens que toi-même nous as donnés : qu’ils te disent notre reconnaissance devant tout ce que ta création nous propose pour assurer notre vie sur la terre ; qu’ils deviennent aussi le remède qui nous guérira et nous fera vivre éternellement. Par Jésus.

Mon berger, c’est le Seigneur : je ne manque de rien ; sur de frais pâturages, il me laisse reposer. Il me mène auprès des eaux tranquilles et me fait revivre.

Purifie nos esprits, Seigneur : que tes mystères les renouvellent ; fais que même nos corps y trouvent des forces pour aujourd’hui et pour l’éternité. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Chers frères, une fois de plus en ce jour, Jésus se heurte à la dureté de ces juifs fondamentalistes et ritualistes qui ne comprennent pas l’esprit de la loi. Ils sont mécontents parce que Jésus libère un paralytique le jour du sabbat. Pour eux, le plus important, c’est l’observance du jour du sabbat et non le salut des âmes. En opérant cette guérison, le jour du sabbat, Jésus veut, sans doute, recadrer les choses et rétablir l’échelle des valeurs. Pour Jésus, le sabbat est fait pour l’homme et non l’homme pour le sabbat. Autrement dit, toutes les lois que nous avons doivent concourir au bien de l’homme et non le contraire. C’est donc une mise au point que Jésus fait à ces juifs et à nous aussi. Prions le Seigneur afin qu’il nous accorde cette conscience vive de rechercher en tout la libération de l’homme en disant non à toute loi oppressante.

Saint Joseph, époux de la Vierge Marie
Solennite
Quand Marie devint Mère de Dieu, elle était déjà accordée en mariage à Joseph. Cet homme a donc une place à part dans l’histoire du salut ; à titre d’époux et de père, il va jouer un rôle providentiel auprès de la Vierge et de Jésus. Joseph est descendant de David, et saint Matthieu affirme qu’il est un homme juste ; cela signifie qu’il veut se conformer pleinement à la parole de Dieu, qu’il écoute avec foi et accomplit en silence.
Antienne d’ouverture
Célébrons dans la joie la fête de saint Joseph, le serviteur fidèle et avisé que le Seigneur a établi sur sa famille.
Prière d’ouverture
Dieu tout-puissant, à l’aube des temps nouveaux tu as confié à saint Joseph la garde des mystères du salut; accorde maintenant à ton Eglise, toujours soutenue par sa prière, de veiller sur leur achèvement. Par Jésus.

Frères, ce n’est pas en vertu de la Loi que la promesse de recevoir le monde en héritage a été faite à Abraham et à sa descendance, mais en vertu de la justice obtenue par la foi. Voilà pourquoi on devient héritier par la foi: c’est une grâce, et la promesse demeure ferme pour tous les descendants d’Abraham, non pour ceux qui se rattachent à la Loi seulement, mais pour ceux qui se rattachent aussi à la foi d’Abraham, lui qui est notre père à tous. C’est bien ce qui est écrit: J’ai fait de toi le père d’un grand nombre de nations. Il est notre père devant Dieu en qui il a cru, Dieu qui donne la vie aux morts et qui appelle à l’existence ce qui n’existe pas. Espérant contre toute espérance, il a cru ; ainsi est-il devenu le père d’un grand nombre de nations, selon cette parole : Telle sera la descendance que tu auras! Et voilà pourquoi il lui fut accordé d’être juste.

Evangile : Mt 1, 16.18-21.24a
Jacob engendra Joseph, l’époux de Marie, de laquelle fut engendré Jésus, que l’on appelle Christ. Or, voici comment fut engendré Jésus Christ : Marie, sa mère, avait été accordée en mariage à Joseph ; avant qu’ils aient habité ensemble, elle fut enceinte par l’action de l’Esprit Saint. Joseph, son époux, qui était un homme juste, et ne voulait pas la dénoncer publiquement, décida de la renvoyer en secret. Comme il avait formé ce projet, voici que l’ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe et lui dit: « Joseph, fils de David, ne crains pas de prendre chez toi Marie, ton épouse, puisque l’enfant qui est engendré en elle vient de l’Esprit Saint; elle enfantera un fils, et tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus (c’est-à-dire : Le-Seigneur-sauve), car c’est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. » Quand Joseph se réveilla, il fit ce que l’ange du Seigneur lui avait prescrit.

Fais que nous puissions, Seigneur, nous présenter au service de ton autel, avec un cœur sans partage, à l’exemple de saint Joseph qui s’est consacré tout entier à servir ton propre Fils né de la Vierge Marie. Lui qui règne.

« Bon serviteur, dans les petites choses, tu t’es montré fidèle, je t’en confierai de plus grandes, dit le Seigneur entre dans la joie de ton maître. »

Par cette nourriture reçue à ton autel, Seigneur, tu as rassasié ta famille, heureuse de fêter saint Joseph ; garde-la toujours sous ta protection et veille sur les dons que tu lui as faits. Par Jésus.
Méditation
En ce jour, l’Eglise nous donne de méditer sur la figure de Saint Joseph, époux de Marie et père adoptif de Jésus. De l’évangile de ce jour, Joseph nous est présenté comme un homme juste, un homme d’écoute, un homme qui se soumet à la volonté de Dieu. Joseph a, non seulement accepté de prendre Marie pour femme malgré que celle-ci fut enceinte, mais aussi d’assumer la paternité d’un enfant qui n’était pas le fruit de ses entrailles. Il a, par cet acte, accepté d’ajuster sa volonté à celle de Dieu par une attitude intérieure de réflexion, de méditation profonde et d’accueil. La vie de Joseph nous apprend que nous devons toujours être à l’écoute de notre voix intérieure pour ne pas prendre de mauvaise décision dans la vie. C’est cette écoute de la voix de Dieu en lui qui lui a permis d’être un bon époux et un vrai père. Que son exemple nous stimule.

He was a carpenter. He accepted the will of God and supported Mary and brought up Jesus. He is widely venerated as a patron of artisans and of workers in general.

Grant, we pray, almighty God, that by Saint Joseph’s intercession, your Church may constantly watch over the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation, whose beginnings you entrusted to his faithful care. The promise of inheriting the world was not made to Abraham and his descendants on account of any law but on account of the righteousness which consists in faith. That is why what fulfils the promise depends on faith, so that it may be a free gift and be available to all of Abraham’s descendants, not only those who belong to the Law but also those who belong to the faith of Abraham who is the father of all of us. As Scripture says: I have made you the ancestor of many nations – Abraham is our father in the eyes of God, in whom he put his faith, and who brings the dead to life and calls into being what does not exist. Though it seemed Abraham’s hope could not be fulfilled, he hoped and he believed, and through doing so he did become the father of many nations exactly as he had been promised: Your descendants will be as many as the stars. This is the faith that was ‘considered as justifying him.’

Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary; of her was born Jesus who is called Christ. This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph; being a man of honour and wanting to spare her publicity, decided to divorce her informally. He had made up his mind to do this when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins.” When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do.

Meditation
Today, the Church invites us to meditate on the figure of Saint Joseph, husband of Mary and adoptive father of Jesus. From today’s Gospel, Joseph is presented to us as a just man, a man of listening, a man who submits to the will of God. Joseph not only accepted to take Mary as his wife, even though she was pregnant, but also to take upon himself the paternity of a child that was not his own. By this act, he agreed to adjust his will to that of God through an interior attitude of reflection, deep meditation and acceptance. Joseph’s life teaches us to listen to our inner voice in order avoid making bad decisions in life. It was this listening to the voice of God within him that helped him to be a good husband and a true father. May his example stimulate us.

L’Esprit du Seigneur s’empara de David à partir de ce jour-là.

Ne prenez aucune part aux activités des ténèbres, elles ne produisent rien de bon ; démasquez-les plutôt. Ce que ces gens-là font en cachette, on a honte même d’en parler. En ce temps-là, en sortant du Temple, Jésus vit sur son passage un homme aveugle de naissance. Il cracha à terre et, avec la salive, il fit de la boue ; puis il appliqua la boue sur les yeux de l’aveugle, et lui dit : « Va te laver à la piscine de Siloé » – ce nom se traduit: Envoyé. L’aveugle y alla donc, et il se lava ; quand il revint, il voyait. Ses voisins, et ceux qui l’avaient observé auparavant – car il était mendiant – dirent alors : « N’est-ce pas celui qui se tenait là pour mendier ? » Les uns disaient : « C’est lui. » Les autres disaient : « Pas du tout, c’est quelqu’un qui lui ressemble. » Mais lui disait : « C’est bien moi. » On l’amène aux pharisiens, lui, l’ancien aveugle. Or, c’était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue et lui avait ouvert les yeux. À leur tour, les pharisiens lui demandaient comment il pouvait voir. Il leur répondit : « Il m’a mis de la boue sur les yeux, je me suis lavé, et je vois. » Parmi les pharisiens, certains disaient : « Cet homme-là n’est pas de Dieu, puisqu’il n’observe pas le repos du sabbat. » D’autres disaient : « Comment un homme pécheur peut-il accomplir des signes pareils ? » Ainsi donc ils étaient divisés. Alors ils s’adressent de nouveau à l’aveugle : « Et toi, que dis-tu de lui, puisqu’il t’a ouvert les yeux ? » Il dit: « C’est un prophète. » Ils répliquèrent: « Tu es tout entier dans le péché depuis ta naissance, et tu nous fais la leçon ? » Et ils le jetèrent dehors. Jésus apprit qu’ils l’avaient jeté dehors. Il le retrouva et lui dit: « Crois-tu au Fils de l’homme ? » Il répondit: « Et qui est-il, Seigneur, pour que je croie en lui ? » Jésus lui dit : « Tu le vois, et c’est lui qui te parle. » Il dit : « Je crois, Seigneur ! » Et il se prosterna devant lui.

Méditation
L’évangile de ce quatrième dimanche de carême nous présente Jésus comme le « fils de l’homme », celui-là qui est venu dans le monde pour dissiper les ténèbres et guérir toutes nos cécités, aussi bien physiques que spirituelles. Mais la guérison qu’il opère sur un aveugle-né n’enchante pas tout le monde et crée même des polémiques autour de sa personne. Certains sont mécontents de son action parce qu’ils aiment se réjouir du malheur des autres. Ils aiment voir leurs frères croupir dans la souffrance. Cela prouve à quel point dans notre monde et dans nos sociétés certaines personnes œuvrent pour l’enchainement et le malheur de leurs frères. Puisse le Seigneur nous préserver d’un tel aveuglement qui nous empêcherait non seulement de voir en Jésus le prophète de Dieu, mais aussi de nous réjouir du bonheur des autres.

First reading: 1 Samuel 16:1,6-7,10-13
The Lord said to Samuel, “Fill your horn with oil and go. It was about the sixth hour. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Give me a drink.’ His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘What? You are a Jew and you ask me, a Samaritan, for a drink?’ – Jews, in fact, do not associate with Samaritans. Jesus replied: ‘If you only knew what God is offering and who it is that is saying to you: Give me a drink, you would have been the one to ask, and he would have given you living water.’ ‘You have no bucket, sir,’ she answered ‘and the well is deep: how could you get this living water? God is spirit, and those who worship must worship in spirit and truth.’ The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah – that is, Christ – is coming; and when he comes he will tell us everything.’ ‘I who am speaking to you,’ said Jesus ‘I am he.’ Many Samaritans of that town had believed in him on the strength of the woman’s testimony when she said, ‘He told me all I have ever done’, so, when the Samaritans came up to him, they begged him to stay with them. O God, who enlighten everyone who comes into this world, illuminate our hearts, we pray, with the splendour of your grace, that we may always ponder what is worthy and pleasing to your majesty and love you in all sincerity. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
The Gospel of this fourth Sunday of Lent presents Jesus as the “son of man”, the one who came into the world to dispel the darkness and heal all our blindness, both physical and spiritual. But the healing that he performs on a man born blind does not delight everyone; it even creates controversy around his person. Some are unhappy with his action because they like to rejoice in the misfortune of others. They like to see others languish in suffering. This proves to what extent some people work for the shackling and the misfortune of others in our societies. May the Lord preserve us from such a blindness that would prevent us not only from seeing in Jesus the prophet of God, but also from rejoicing in the happiness of others.

Saint Cyrille de Jérusalem,
Evêque et Docteur de l’Eglise
C’est un spécialiste de la catéchèse des adultes qui, vers 350, devint évêque de Jérusalem, sa ville natale. Cyrille (313-386) avait préparé les candidats au baptême en leur expliquant, d’une manière directe et très simple, les mystères de la foi et les sacrements de l’initiation chrétienne. Ses Catéchèses, qui sont parvenues jusqu’à nous, sont le vivant écho de sa parole.
Antienne d’ouverture : Lc 18, 13
Le publicain se tenait à distance, se frappait la poitrine en priant : « Mon Dieu, prends pitié du pécheur que je suis ».
Prière d’ouverture
En célébrant avec joie la liturgie de ce Carême, nous te supplions, Seigneur ; nous vivons déjà du mystère de Pâques, accorde-nous le bonheur d’en goûter pleinement les fruits. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Osée 6, 1-6
Venez, retournons vers le Seigneur ! il a blessé, mais il nous guérira ; il a frappé, mais il nous soignera. Après deux jours, il nous rendra la vie ; il nous relèvera le troisième jour : alors, nous vivrons devant sa face. Efforçons-nous de connaître le Seigneur : son lever est aussi sûr que l’aurore; il nous viendra comme la pluie, l’ondée qui arrose la terre. – Que ferai- je de toi, Éphraïm ? En ce temps- là, à l’adresse de certains qui étaient convaincus d’être justes et qui méprisaient les autres, Jésus dit la parabole que voici : « Deux hommes montèrent au Temple pour prier. L’un était pharisien, et l’autre, publicain (c’est- à- dire un collecteur d’impôts). Le pharisien se tenait debout et priait en lui- même: “Mon Dieu, je te rends grâce parce que je ne suis pas comme les autres hommes – ils sont voleurs, injustes, adultères –, ou encore comme ce publicain. Je jeûne deux fois par semaine et je verse le dixième de tout ce que je gagne.” Le publicain, lui, se tenait à distance et n’osait même pas lever les yeux vers le ciel ; mais il se frappait la poitrine, en disant : “Mon Dieu, montre- toi favorable au pécheur que je suis !” Je vous le déclare : quand ce dernier redescendit dans sa maison, c’est lui qui était devenu un homme juste, plutôt que l’autre. Qui s’élève sera abaissé ; qui s’abaisse sera élevé. »

Méditation
Bienaimés de Dieu, en ce jour, c’est un enseignement fort que Jésus donne à tous ceux qui se disent saints et mènent leur existence les yeux braqués sur la vie des autres au lieu de s’occuper de leur propre vie et de la destinée de celle-ci. Dieu ne nous a pas envoyé sur terre perdre notre temps à de vaines comparaisons. Vivre en nous donnant bonne conscience que nous sommes meilleurs que les autres est un chemin qui mène droit à la perdition, car, c’est une attitude qui nous éloigne de la vérité. Elle nous aveugle. Cela ne nous permet pas de voir que nous sommes, nous aussi, passibles d’erreurs, de péchés, de manquements, et que par conséquent, nous devons nous amender. Faisons donc attention de peur que l’esprit d’orgueil et de suffisance ne nous égare. Savoir reconnaitre ses limites et ses torts, nous permet d’avancer dans la vie. Cela nous justifie en Dieu.

Meditation
Beloved of God, Jesus gives a strong teaching to all those who call themselves saints and live with their eyes on the lives of others instead of looking after their own lives and their destiny. God did not send us to earth to waste our time in vain comparisons. To live with the belief that we are better than others is a path that leads straight to perdition, because it is an attitude that leads us away from the truth. It blinds us. It does not allow us to see that we too are subject to errors, sins and shortcomings, and that we must therefore make amends. So let us be careful lest the spirit of pride and self-importance lead us astray. Recognizing our limits and our faults allows us to move forward in life and justifies us in God.

Saint Patrice, Evêque
Patrice ou Patrick, natif de Grande-Bretagne (vers 385-461), est vendu comme esclave en Irlande par les pirates qui l’ont enlevé alors qu’il avait quinze ans. Sept ans après, il s’évade, va se former au monastère de Lérins et à Auxerre près de Saint Germain, et reçoit l’épiscopat. Il part alors évangéliser l’Irlande encore païenne, dont il fait cette ‘’île des saints’’ où le zèle missionnaire demeure si ardent.

Toutes les nations viendront te reconnaître, Seigneur, et rendre gloire à ton nom. Car tu es grand et tu fais des merveilles, toi qui es le seul Dieu.
Prière d’ouverture
Répands ta grâce en nos cœurs, Dieu de bonté : que nous sachions refréner nos désirs terrestres pour mieux entendre ta parole. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Osée 14, 2-10
Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Reviens, Israël, au Seigneur ton Dieu ; car tu t’es effondré par suite de tes fautes. Revenez au Seigneur en lui présentant ces paroles : « Enlève toutes les fautes, et accepte ce qui est bon. Au lieu de taureaux, nous t’offrons en sacrifice les paroles de nos lèvres. Puisque les Assyriens ne peuvent pas nous sauver, nous ne monterons plus sur des chevaux, et nous ne dirons plus à l’ouvrage de nos mains : « Tu es notre Dieu », car de toi seul l’orphelin reçoit de la tendresse. Voici la réponse du Seigneur : Je les guérirai de leur infidélité, je les aimerai d’un amour gratuit, car ma colère s’est détournée d’Israël. Je serai pour Israël comme la rosée, il fleurira comme le lis, il étendra ses racines comme les arbres du Liban. Ses jeunes pousses vont grandir, sa parure sera comme celle de l’olivier, son parfum, comme celui de la forêt du Liban. Ils reviendront s’asseoir à son ombre, ils feront revivre le froment, ils fleuriront comme la vigne, ils seront renommés comme le vin du Liban. Ephraïm ! Peux-tu me confondre avec les idoles ? C’est moi qui te réponds et qui te regarde. Je suis comme le cyprès toujours vert, c’est moi qui te donne ton fruit. Qui donc est assez sage pour comprendre ces choses, assez pénétrant pour les saisir ? Oui, les chemins du Seigneur sont droits : les justes y avancent, mais les pécheurs y trébuchent.

R/ C’est moi, le Seigneur ton Dieu, écoute ma voix.
J’entends des mots qui m’étaient inconnus : « J’ai ôté le poids qui chargeait ses épaules ; ses mains ont déposé le fardeau. Quand tu criais sous l’oppression, je t’ai sauvé.
«Je répondais, caché dans l’orage, je t’éprouvais près des eaux de Mériba. Écoute, je t’adjure, ô mon peuple ; vas-tu m’écouter, Israël ?

Évangile : Marc 12, 28b- 34
En ce temps-là, un scribe s’avança vers Jésus pour lui demander : « Quel est le premier de tous les commandements ? » Jésus lui fit cette réponse : « Voici le premier : Écoute, Israël : le Seigneur notre Dieu est l’unique Seigneur. Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme, de tout ton esprit et de toute ta force. Et voici le second: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même. Il n’y a pas de commandement plus grand que ceux-là. » Le scribe reprit : « Fort bien, Maître, tu as dit vrai : Dieu est l’Unique et il n’y en a pas d’autre que lui. L’aimer de tout son cœur, de toute son intelligence, de toute sa force, et aimer son prochain comme soi-même, vaut mieux que toute offrande d’holocaustes et de sacrifices. » Jésus, voyant qu’il avait fait une remarque judicieuse, lui dit : « Tu n’es pas loin du royaume de Dieu. » Et personne n’osait plus l’interroger.
Prière sur les offrandes
Jette un regard bienveillant, Seigneur, sur les offrandes que nous te consacrons : qu’elles deviennent l’offrande que tu aimes, et qu’elles nous apportent le salut. Par Jésus.

Aimer Dieu de tout son cœur, et son prochain comme soi-même vaut mieux que tous les sacrifices.
Prière après la communion
Que ta propre énergie, Seigneur, transforme nos esprits et nos corps ; ainsi, serons-nous sauvés tout entiers dans cette communion à ton Fils. Lui qui règne.
Méditation
Jésus nous enseigne que le plus grand commandement que nous devons observer et mettre en pratique dans nos vies, c’est celui de l’Amour. L’Amour est le fondement et le socle de tout ce qui doit régir notre vie et nos actions. Amour de Dieu, Amour de soi et Amour du prochain, tout cela va de pair. Aujourd’hui nous vivons dans un monde plein d’individualisme et d’égocentrisme, pourtant on se réclame être les amis de Dieu et de bonnes personnes. Beaucoup parmi, nous prétendons connaitre et faire la volonté de Dieu alors que nous sommes les acteurs et les promoteurs des misères que nos frères vivent, subissent ou traversent. Faisons donc attention à tous les actes dépourvus d’amour que nous posons. Agir sans amour, c’est être loin de l’essentiel de la vie, c’est être loin de la volonté de Dieu.
