Saint Etienne de Hongrie
Etienne (vers 970-1038) fut le premier roi chrétien de Hongrie. Il fit appel aux moines de Cluny pour évangéliser son royaume. En l’an 1000, il reçut du pape Sylvestre II ‘’la sainte couronne’’, qui devint le symbole de l’unité magyare. Grâce ses dons de chef, il donna à son pays une solide organisation civile et religieuse.

Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Observez le droit, pratiquez la justice, car mon salut approche, il vient, et ma justice va se révéler. Les étrangers qui se sont attachés au Seigneur pour l’honorer, pour aimer son nom, pour devenir ses serviteurs, tous ceux qui observent le sabbat sans le profaner et tiennent ferme à mon alliance, je les conduirai à ma montagne sainte, je les comblerai de joie dans ma maison de prière, leurs holocaustes et leurs sacrifices seront agréés sur mon autel, car ma maison s’appellera « Maison de prière pour tous les peuples. » – Parole du Seigneur.

Deuxième lecture (Rm 11, 13-15.29-32)
Frères, je vous le dis à vous, qui venez des nations païennes : dans la mesure où je suis moi-même apôtre des nations, j’honore mon ministère, mais dans l’espoir de rendre jaloux mes frères selon la chair, et d’en sauver quelques-uns. Si en effet le monde a été réconcilié avec Dieu quand ils ont été mis à l’écart, qu’arrivera-t-il quand ils seront réintégrés ? Ce sera la vie pour ceux qui étaient morts ! Les dons gratuits de Dieu et son appel sont sans repentance. Jadis, en effet, vous avez refusé de croire en Dieu, et maintenant, par suite de leur refus de croire, vous avez obtenu miséricorde ; de même, maintenant, ce sont eux qui ont refusé de croire, par suite de la miséricorde que vous avez obtenue, mais c’est pour qu’ils obtiennent miséricorde, eux aussi. Voici qu’une Cananéenne, venue de ces territoires, disait en criant : « Prends pitié de moi, Seigneur, fils de David ! Ma fille est tourmentée par un démon. » Mais il ne lui répondit pas un mot. Les disciples s’approchèrent pour lui demander : « Renvoie-la, car elle nous poursuit de ses cris ! » Jésus répondit : « Je n’ai été envoyé qu’aux brebis perdues de la maison d’Israël. » Mais elle vint se prosterner devant lui en disant : « Seigneur, viens à mon secours ! » Il répondit : « Il n’est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants et de le jeter aux petits chiens. » Elle reprit : « Oui, Seigneur ; mais justement, les petits chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres. » Jésus répondit : « Femme, grande est ta foi, que tout se passe pour toi comme tu le veux ! » Et, à l’heure même, sa fille fut guérie. – Acclamons la Parole de Dieu.

Saint Maximilien Kolbe
Arrêté en février 1941, il est déporté au camp d’Auschwitz au mois de mai. A la suite d’une évasion, dix prisonniers sont condamnés à mourir de faim, enfermés dans un bunker. Il ya parmi eux un père de famille. Maximilien Kolbe demande à mourir à sa place. Il sera le dernier à mourir dans le bunker après avoir aidé ses compagnons dans la patience, la paix et le réconfort.

Dès le commencement, le Créateur les fit homme et femme ? et dit : “À cause de cela, l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, il s’attachera à sa femme, et tous deux deviendront une seule chair.” Ainsi, ils ne sont plus deux, mais une seule chair. Donc, ce que Dieu a uni, que l’homme ne le sépare pas ! » Les pharisiens lui répliquent : « Pourquoi donc Moïse a-t-il prescrit la remise d’un acte de divorce avant la répudiation ? » Jésus leur répond : « C’est en raison de la dureté de votre cœur que Moïse vous a permis de renvoyer vos femmes. Mais au commencement, il n’en était pas ainsi. Or je vous le dis : si quelqu’un renvoie sa femme – sauf en cas d’union illégitime – et qu’il en épouse une autre, il est adultère. » Ses disciples lui disent : « Si telle est la situation de l’homme par rapport à sa femme, mieux vaut ne pas se marier. » Il leur répondit : « Tous ne comprennent pas cette parole, mais seulement ceux à qui cela est donné. Il y a des gens qui ne se marient pas car, de naissance, ils en sont incapables ; il y en a qui ne peuvent pas se marier car ils ont été mutilés par les hommes ; il y en a qui ont choisi de ne pas se marier à cause du royaume des Cieux. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The commemoration of the death of the Blessed Virgin is known as the Assumption because of the tradition that her body did not decay but that she was raised up, body and soul, into heaven.

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: Apocalypse 11:19,12:1-6,10
The sanctuary of God in heaven opened and the ark of the covenant could be seen inside it. Then came flashes of lightning, peals of thunder and an earthquake, and violent hail. Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown. She was pregnant, and in labour, crying aloud in the pangs of childbirth. Then a second sign appeared in the sky, a huge red dragon which had seven heads and ten horns, and each of the seven heads crowned with a coronet. Its tail dragged a third of the stars from the sky and dropped them to the earth, and the dragon stopped in front of the woman as she was having the child, so that he could eat it as soon as it was born from its mother. Gospel: Luke 1:39-56
Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’ And Mary said: ‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my saviour; because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid. Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name, and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him. He has shown the power of his arm, he has routed the proud of heart. He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away. He has come to the help of Israel his servant mindful of his mercy – according to the promise he made to our ancestors – of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’ Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back home.

Prayer after Communion
Having received the Sacrament of salvation, we ask you to grant, O Lord, that, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom you assumed into heaven, we may be brought to the glory of the resurrection. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
We celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in body and soul to Heaven. St. Bernard says of the Virgin Mary: «What a beautiful present the earth is today sending to heaven! With this wonderful gesture of friendship —such as giving and receiving— the human and the divine, the earthly and the heavenly, the humble and the sublime, merged into one…». Mary gives us her joy made music, in the Magnificat: «My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit exults in God my saviour…» (Lk 1:46-47). What a beautiful gift the heaven sends back to us with Mary’s song, made word of God. In this song of praise, we see how the human and the divine, the earthly and the celestial are knitted together, while being able to react, as She does, to the gift God presents us with, in the person of his Son, through his Saintly Mother. We are also called to share this gift of her maternity, keeping the word in her heart and pondering them, so that this word made flesh (Jesus Christ) may also take possession of our hearts.

Assomption de la Vierge Marie
La Vierge qui, dès sa conception, avait été comblée de grâce par le Père, communie maintenant en plénitude à la gloire de son Fils. Aujourd’hui, l’Eglise commémore dans la joie la glorification de Marie à l’heure où sa vie terrestre s’est achevée. Cette glorification est le fruit de la fidélité parfaite de la Vierge et de sa communion plénière au sacrifice de son Fils. Dans ce mystère, nous contemplons, réalisé déjà en la personne de Marie, le don que le Christ veut faire à son Eglise à la fin des temps, quand le nombre des élus sera complet. Alors ces élus seront pleinement transformés par l’Esprit, comme l’est déjà leur Mère.
En 1922, Pie XI a mis la France sous le patronage de Notre dame de l’Assomption et, en 1950, Pie XII a proclamé, par définition dogmatique, la foi de l’Église en ce mystère de l’Assomption.

Première lecture (1 Ch 15, 3-4.15-16 ; 16, 1-2)
En ces jours-là, David rassembla tout Israël à Jérusalem pour faire monter l’arche du Seigneur jusqu’à l’emplacement préparé pour elle. Il réunit les fils d’Aaron et les Lévites. Les Lévites transportèrent l’arche de Dieu, au moyen de barres placées sur leurs épaules, comme l’avait ordonné Moïse, selon la parole du Seigneur. David dit aux chefs des Lévites de mettre en place leurs frères, les chantres, avec leurs instruments, harpes, cithares, cymbales, pour les faire retentir avec force en signe de joie. Ils amenèrent donc l’arche de Dieu et l’installèrent au milieu de la tente que David avait dressée pour elle. Puis on présenta devant Dieu des holocaustes et des sacrifices de paix. Quand David eut achevé d’offrir les holocaustes et les sacrifices de paix, il bénit le peuple au nom du Seigneur. – Parole du Seigneur.

Frères, quand cet être mortel aura revêtu l’immortalité, alors se réalisera la parole de l’Écriture : La mort a été engloutie dans la victoire. Ô Mort, où est ta victoire ? Ô Mort, où est-il, ton aiguillon ? L’aiguillon de la mort, c’est le péché ; ce qui donne force au péché, c’est la Loi. Rendons grâce à Dieu qui nous donne la victoire par notre Seigneur Jésus Christ. – Parole du Seigneur.

Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, toi qui as fait monter jusqu’à la gloire du ciel, avec son âme et son corps, Marie, la Vierge immaculée, mère de ton Fils: Fais que nous demeurions attentifs aux choses d’en haut pour obtenir de partager sa gloire. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture (Ap 11, 19a ; 12, 1-6a.10ab)
Le sanctuaire de Dieu, qui est dans le ciel, s’ouvrit, et l’arche de son Alliance apparut dans le Sanctuaire. Un grand signe apparut dans le ciel : une Femme, ayant le soleil pour manteau, la lune sous les pieds, et sur la tête une couronne de douze étoiles. Elle est enceinte, elle crie, dans les douleurs et la torture d’un enfantement. Un autre signe apparut dans le ciel : un grand dragon, rouge feu, avec sept têtes et dix cornes, et, sur chacune des sept têtes, un diadème. Sa queue, entraînant le tiers des étoiles du ciel, les précipita sur la terre. Le Dragon vint se poster devant la femme qui allait enfanter, afin de dévorer l’enfant dès sa naissance. Or, elle mit au monde un fils, un enfant mâle, celui qui sera le berger de toutes les nations, les conduisant avec un sceptre de fer. L’enfant fut enlevé jusqu’auprès de Dieu et de son Trône, et la Femme s’enfuit au désert, où Dieu lui a préparé une place. Alors j’entendis dans le ciel une voix forte, qui proclamait : « Maintenant voici le salut, la puissance et le règne de notre Dieu, voici le pouvoir de son Christ ! » – Parole du Seigneur.

Il est ton Seigneur : prosterne-toi devant lui. Alors, les plus riches du peuple, chargés de présents, quêteront ton sourire.
Fille de roi, elle est là, dans sa gloire, vêtue d’étoffes d’or ; on la conduit, toute parée, vers le roi.
Des jeunes filles, ses compagnes, lui font cortège ; on les conduit parmi les chants de fête : elles entrent au palais du roi.
Deuxième lecture (1 Co 15, 20-27a)
Frères, le Christ est ressuscité d’entre les morts, lui, premier ressuscité parmi ceux qui se sont endormis. Car, la mort étant venue par un homme, c’est par un homme aussi que vient la résurrection des morts. En effet, de même que tous les hommes meurent en Adam, de même c’est dans le Christ que tous recevront la vie, mais chacun à son rang : en premier, le Christ, et ensuite, lors du retour du Christ, ceux qui lui appartiennent. Alors, tout sera achevé, quand le Christ remettra le pouvoir royal à Dieu son Père, après avoir anéanti, parmi les êtres célestes, toute Principauté, toute Souveraineté et Puissance. Car c’est lui qui doit régner jusqu’au jour où Dieu aura mis sous ses pieds tous ses ennemis. Et le dernier ennemi qui sera anéanti, c’est la mort, car il a tout mis sous ses pieds. – Parole du Seigneur.

En ces jours-là, Marie se mit en route et se rendit avec empressement vers la région montagneuse, dans une ville de Judée. Elle entra dans la maison de Zacharie et salua Élisabeth. Or, quand Élisabeth entendit la salutation de Marie, l’enfant tressaillit en elle. Alors, Élisabeth fut remplie d’Esprit Saint, et s’écria d’une voix forte : « Tu es bénie entre toutes les femmes, et le fruit de tes entrailles est béni. D’où m’est-il donné que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne jusqu’à moi ? Car, lorsque tes paroles de salutation sont parvenues à mes oreilles, l’enfant a tressailli d’allégresse en moi. Heureuse celle qui a cru à l’accomplissement des paroles qui lui furent dites de la part du Seigneur. » Marie dit alors : « Mon âme exalte le Seigneur, exulte mon esprit en Dieu, mon Sauveur ! Il s’est penché sur son humble servante ; désormais tous les âges me diront bienheureuse. Le Puissant fit pour moi des merveilles ; Saint est son nom ! Sa miséricorde s’étend d’âge en âge sur ceux qui le craignent. Déployant la force de son bras, il disperse les superbes. Il renverse les puissants de leurs trônes, il élève les humbles. Il comble de biens les affamés, renvoie les riches les mains vides. St Maximilian Kolbe (1894 – 1941)
He was born on 8 January 1894 in occupied Poland: he joined the Franciscans in Lwów in 1910. In 1941 he was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. A prisoner escaped, and in reprisal the authorities were choosing ten people to die by starvation. One of the men had a family, and Maximilian Kolbe offered to take his place. He died in the man’s place.

Meditation
The first reading is compared to an adult on the run. But we also know that God is always willing to forgive and welcome us whenever we run away, whenever we go astray. But this must be on the condition that we return, as to show remorse for our misdeeds and faults. But let us equally think how we handle problems when we face them, especially family issues which sounds frustrating? Do we leave them to remedy themselves or do we try to find solutions to these issues that affect us and even those around us? In the gospel Jesus also urges us to cherish our relationships with our spouses and be ready to do everything possible to keep them, for God himself does not abandon us, but cherishes the bond that exists between Himself and us. Spouses must seek to be one as the Father and the Son are one.

He is patron saint of the diocese of Ross, of which he was probably the first bishop. He established the monastic school of Ross, at what is now Rosscarbery, in county Cork, one of the most famous schools of Ireland, which flourished for three hundred years.

Meditation
Each one of us also has his/her little fault and idiosyncrasies that Bother, the other; so, what do we do then when these faults appear before us? Jesus answers with the lesson of patience. In fact, the difference between the two servants is actually patience, and this is where our forgiveness comes in. just as God is patient with us whenever we fall into sin. He waits for us to return and even then, he receives us with open hands. If God, who is not our equal, can forgive us uncountable times, why can we, who are equal, not forgive one another? The Psalms remind us: «If you O Lord should mark our guilt, who would survive? But you are willing to forgive, so that you might be honoured» (Ps 130:4).

Saints Pontien, pape, et Hippolyte, prêtre, martyrs
Hippolyte est le type du théologien intransigeant qui, se voulant plus fidèle à la tradition que le pape lui-même, finit par sortir de l’Eglise. Fort de sa science théologique, il attaquait violemment tous les hérétiques ou tous ceux qu’il croyait tels. C’est ainsi qu’il s’en prit au pape Zéphyrin auquel il reprochait une trop grande indulgence, et surtout à son secrétaire Calliste. Lorsqu’en 217 celui-ci fut élu évêque de Rome, Hippolyte fit schisme et devint ‘’le premier antipape’’. La persécution de 235 apaisa le conflit. Voulant décapiter l’Eglise, les persécuteurs exilèrent le pape Pontien, successeur légitime de Calliste, et son adversaire Hippolyte. Pontien démissionna ; Hippolyte l’imita et exhorta ses partisans à réintégrer la grande Eglise. Déportés ensemble en Sardaigne, Pontien et Hippolyte furent réunis dans le martyre et dans le culte de l’Eglise.

R/N’oubliez pas les exploits du Seigneur !
- Nos pères ont tenté le Dieu Très-Haut, ils refusaient d’observer ses lois ; ils déviaient comme leurs pères, ils désertaient, trahissaient comme un arc infidèle.
- Leurs hauts lieux le provoquaient, leurs idoles excitaient sa jalousie. Dieu a entendu, il s’emporte, il écarte tout à fait Israël.
- Il laisse capturer sa gloire, et sa puissance par des mains ennemies. Il livre son peuple à l’épée, contre son héritage, il s’emporte.

Evangile : Mt 18, 21 – 19, 1
En ce temps-là, Pierre s’approcha de Jésus pour lui demander : « Seigneur, lorsque mon frère commettra des fautes contre moi, combien de fois dois-je lui pardonner ? Jusqu’à sept fois ? » Jésus lui répondit : « Je ne te dis pas jusqu’à sept fois, mais jusqu’à 70 fois sept fois. Ainsi, le royaume des Cieux est comparable à un roi qui voulut régler ses comptes avec ses serviteurs. Il commençait, quand on lui amena quelqu’un qui lui devait dix mille talents (c’est-à-dire soixante millions de pièces d’argent). Comme cet homme n’avait pas de quoi rembourser, le maître ordonna de le vendre, avec sa femme, ses enfants et tous ses biens, en remboursement de sa dette. Alors, tombant à ses pieds, le serviteur demeurait prosterné et disait : “Prends patience envers moi, et je te rembourserai tout.” Saisi de compassion, le maître de ce serviteur le laissa partir et lui remit sa dette. Mais, en sortant, ce serviteur trouva un de ses compagnons qui lui devait cent pièces d’argent. Il se jeta sur lui pour l’étrangler, en disant : “Rembourse ta dette !” Alors, tombant à ses pieds, son compagnon le suppliait : “Prends patience envers moi, et je te rembourserai.” Mais l’autre refusa et le fit jeter en prison jusqu’à ce qu’il ait remboursé ce qu’il devait. Ses compagnons, voyant cela, furent profondément attristés et allèrent raconter à leur maître tout ce qui s’était passé. Alors celui-ci le fit appeler et lui dit : “Serviteur mauvais ! je t’avais remis toute cette dette parce que tu m’avais supplié. Ne devais-tu pas, à ton tour, avoir pitié de ton compagnon, comme moi-même j’avais eu pitié de toi ?” Dans sa colère, son maître le livra aux bourreaux jusqu’à ce qu’il eût remboursé tout ce qu’il devait. C’est ainsi que mon Père du ciel vous traitera, si chacun de vous ne pardonne pas à son frère du fond du cœur. » Lorsque Jésus eut terminé ce discours, il s’éloigna de la Galilée et se rendit dans le territoire de la Judée, au-delà du Jourdain.

St Jane Frances de Chantal (1572 – 1641)
She was born in Dijon, in France, in 1572. She married a nobleman called de Chantal, by whom she had six children whom she brought up in the faith. She founded the Order of the Visitation and guided it wisely. She died in 1641.

The glory of the Lord came out from the Temple threshold and paused over the cherubs. The cherubs spread their wings and rose from the ground to leave, and as I watched the wheels rose with them. They paused at the entrance to the east gate of the Temple of the Lord, and the glory of the God of Israel hovered over them. This was the creature that I had seen supporting the God of Israel beside the river Chebar, and I was now certain that these were cherubs. Each had four faces and four wings and what seemed to be human hands under their wings. Their faces were just as I had seen them beside the river Chebar. Each moved straight forward.

Meditation
We cannot live without disagreements as humans. But if we have any squabbles with anyone, these practical steps may help us. The first thing we can do is Understanding and advice for the friend or colleague. To point out in a very discreet and private way, his faulty attitude so that he can change for the better, for every human deserves his dignity and must be treated as such. If this does not work out, we could employ a second method which is to get a friend’s collaboration. There could be a third step should this fail, especially when it gets to the level of a public scandal, we may take him to higher and appropriate authorities. If we don’t shun evil, then «the same punishment awaits evildoers than the complacent who tolerate them» (St. Bernard).

Bienheureux Isidore Bakanja
Béatifié le 24 avril 1994 pendant le premier Synode des évêques pour l’Afrique, Isidore Bakanja était catéchumène chez les pères Trappistes, à Mbandaka, au Zaïre, actuel Congo démocratique. Répugnant sa dévotion profonde au Christ le patron dont il était le domestique le fit battre à mort. Agé de 29 ans, il rendit l’âme le 12 août 1909.

Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, toi que nous pouvons déjà appeler notre Père, Fais grandir en nos coeurs l’esprit filial, afin que nous soyons capables d’entrer un jour dans l’héritage qui nous est promis. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture (Ez 9 : 1-7 ; 10 : 18-22)
J’entendis le Seigneur Dieu me crier d’une voix forte : « Ils sont tout proches, les châtiments de Jérusalem, et chacun tient à la main son arme de mort. » Alors six hommes s’avancèrent, venant de la porte supérieure, celle qui est du côté nord. Chacun tenait à la main son arme de destruction. Au milieu d’eux, un homme, vêtu de lin, portant à la ceinture une écritoire de scribe. Ils s’avancèrent, et s’arrêtèrent près de l’autel de bronze. La gloire du Dieu d’Israël s’éleva au-d essus des Kéroubim où elle reposait, et se dirigea vers le seuil de la maison du Seigneur. Alors le Seigneur appela l’homme vêtu de lin, portant à la ceinture une écritoire de scribe. Il lui dit : « Passe à travers la ville, à travers Jérusalem, et marque d’une croix au front ceux qui gémissent et qui se lamentent sur toutes les abominations qu’on y commet. »
Puis j’entendis le Seigneur dire aux autres : « Passez derrière lui à travers la ville, et frappez. N’ayez pas un regard de pitié, n’épargnez personne : vieillards et jeunes gens, jeunes filles, enfants, femmes, tuez- les, exterminez- les. Mais tous ceux qui sont marqués au front, ne les touchez pas. Commencez l’extermination par mon sanctuaire. » Ils commencèrent donc par les vieillards qui adoraient les idoles à l’entrée de la maison du Seigneur. Le Seigneur ajouta : « Rendez impure cette Maison, emplissez les cours de cadavres, puis sortez ! » Ils sortirent donc et frappèrent à travers la ville. La gloire du Seigneur quitta le seuil de la Maison et s’arrêta au- dessus des Kéroubim. Ceux- ci déployèrent leurs ailes ; je les vis partir en s’élevant de terre, et les roues avec eux. Ils s’arrêtèrent à l’entrée de la porte orientale de la maison du Seigneur ; la gloire du Dieu d’Israël était au- dessus d’eux. C’étaient les Vivants que j’avais vus au- dessous du Dieu d’Israël, près du fleuve Kebar, et je reconnus que c’étaient des Kéroubim. Chacun avait quatre faces et quatre ailes, et une forme de mains humaines sous ses ailes. Leurs faces étaient semblables aux faces que j’avais vues près du fleuve Kebar ; tel était leur aspect. Chacun allait droit devant lui.

Louez, serviteurs du Seigneur, louez le nom du Seigneur ! Béni soit le nom du Seigneur, maintenant et pour les siècles des siècles !
Du levant au couchant du soleil, loué soit le nom du Seigneur ! Le Seigneur domine tous les peuples, sa gloire domine les cieux.
Qui est semblable au Seigneur notre Dieu ? Lui, il siège là- haut. Mais il abaisse son regard vers le ciel et vers la terre.
Acclamation :
Alléluia. Alléluia. Dans le Christ, Dieu réconciliait le monde avec lui : il a mis dans notre bouche la parole de la réconciliation. Alléluia.
Évangile (Mt 18 : 15-20)
En ce temps- là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Si ton frère a commis un péché contre toi, va lui faire des reproches seul à seul. S’il t’écoute, tu as gagné ton frère. S’il ne t’écoute pas, prends en plus avec toi une ou deux personnes afin que toute l’affaire soit réglée sur la parole de deux ou trois témoins. S’il refuse de les écouter, dis- le à l’assemblée de l’Église ; s’il refuse encore d’écouter l’Église, considère- le comme un païen et un publicain. Amen, je vous le dis : tout ce que vous aurez lié sur la terre sera lié dans le ciel, et tout ce que vous aurez délié sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel. Et pareillement, amen, je vous le dis, si deux d’entre vous sur la terre se mettent d’accord pour demander quoi que ce soit, ils l’obtiendront de mon Père qui est aux cieux. En effet, quand deux ou trois sont réunis en mon nom, je suis là, au milieu d’eux. »
Prière sur les offrandes :
Seigneur, tu as donné ces présents à ton Église pour qu’elle puisse te les offrir. Daigne les accueillir favorablement, qu’ils deviennent, par ta puissance, le sacrement de notre salut. Par Jésus.

Glorifie le Seigneur, Jérusalem, il te nourrit de la fleur du froment.

St Clare, Virgin (1193/4 – 1253)
St Philomena, Virgin and Martyr
Clare was born at Assisi and came under the influence of Saint Francis. She left home at the age of 18 and, under Francis’s guidance, began a community that grew to become the order of the Poor Clares. Clare was a noted contemplative and a caring mother to her nuns. She died at Assisi in 1253.

O God, who in your mercy led Saint Clare to a love of poverty, grant, through her intercession, that, following Christ in poverty of spirit, we may merit to contemplate you

Gospel: Matthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14
The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, ‘I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. ‘See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven. ‘Tell me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray? I tell you solemnly, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at all. Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.’

As we proclaim your wonders, O Lord, in the commemoration of the holy Virgin Saint Clare we bring you these offerings and prayers; grant, we ask, that, as her merits are pleasing to you, so, too, our dutiful service may find favour in your sight. Through Christ our Lord.

The bridegroom has come, and the virgins who were ready have gone with him into the wedding feast.
Prayer after Communion
May the mysteries we have received, O Lord, on this feast day of the Virgin Saint Clare constantly bestir and enlighten us, we pray, so that we may stand ready for the coming of your Son and be admitted to his wedding feast on high. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Children are a perfect symbol of humility. Children are just themselves. Jesus prays that we should change our attitude in conformity to that of children. They do not aspire for greatness as we do. We already knew that the Father has a preference for the small children, but today we can recognize another wish of the Father that becomes imperative: «I assure you that unless you change and become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven» (Mt 18:3). Those with this childlike attitude are those to whom the kingdom of heaven belongs. What is important is for us to be as lowly (humble)as children; for he who is low has no fear of fall.
