He was born in Scotland and became a Jesuit in 1608 and returned to Scotland in disguise, saying Masses in secret. He was arrested in Glasgow in 1614, tortured, paraded through the streets, and hanged on 10 March 1615.

Meditation
Contrary to prevailing Jewish thought at the time, judgement will not be based on such ethnic affiliations as being Christian or Jewish. Instead, it will be determined by our concern for our brethren, guided by moral and spiritual principles. This verdict is based on the judge’s response to the needs of the needy around us – whether hunger, thirst, lack of clothing, sickness, among other issues addressed or neglected. Christ identifies Himself with those in need, and ultimate judgement of ‘Come’ or ‘Go away’ depends on whether we satisfy those needs or not. Lent offers us an opportunity for us to earnestly consider our relationship with Christ concerning the needy and the marginalised of our society. It urges us to transform our temporal actions into lasting contributions by addressing the needs of the poor and outcasts of our society.

En effet, si de ta bouche, tu affirmes que Jésus est Seigneur, si, dans ton cœur, tu crois que Dieu l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts, alors tu seras sauvé. Méditation
Le Carême s’ouvre avec le récit des tentations de Jésus. Placées au seuil de son ministère public, elles annoncent les nombreuses contradictions que Jésus devra subir, jusqu’à la violence ultime de la mort. En elles se révèle l’authenticité de l’humanité du Christ qui, pleinement solidaire de l’homme, subit toutes les tentations par lesquelles l’Ennemi cherche à l’arracher de sa pleine soumission au Père. « Le Christ a été tenté par le démon ! Mais dans le Christ, c’est toi qui es tenté « (Saint Augustin). Le récit des tentations annonce également la victoire finale du Christ, dans la Résurrection. Le Christ inaugure un chemin où personne ne pourra empêcher que le dessein de Dieu se manifeste à chaque homme : sa volonté de le racheter, de rendre à l’homme la souveraineté de sa propre vie, dans une libre reconnaissance de sa dépendance de Dieu. C’est dans l’obéissance à Dieu que l’homme trouve sa liberté.

Meditation
Temptation, by itself, is not a sin; rather, it serves as an invitation to fall into sin. It is an integral part of our daily lives. It is one that we cannot entirely eliminate, as we are constantly surrounded and confronted with it daily. Even Jesus, as depicted in the Gospel, did not escape temptation. In his role as Master, He leads His disciples by demonstrating how to recognise and, more importantly, how to deal with temptations. The devil uses three types of temptations to sever our connection to God: the allure of material possessions (represented by bread), the temptation of power (worshipping the devil for dominion over the world’s kingdoms), and the lure of prestige (throwing oneself down with the belief in the protective power of the angels). These three temptations fail to provide genuine satisfaction and only create the false impression that everything depends on us. This misconception may lead us to make others dependent for even the smallest mattes. Jesus overcame these temptations, and this Gospel passage encourages us to follow suit,
He was born to a poor but devout family in Portugal in 1495. After serving as a soldier, he founded a hospital in Granada and a circle of disciples formed round him, which later became the Order of Hospitallers.

Meditation
Is there anyone who does not need conversion? One of the tragic aspects of humanity in the 21st century, as stated in the Desiderata, is that “…there will always be greater and lesser persons than us.” Consequently, there are some who may question, ‘why should I undergo conversion when I believe I’m better than everyone else?’ Reflecting on the example of Jesus calling Levi, we see a profound transformation. Levi leaves everything – his job, changes his way of seeing things, stops judging others, and undergoes a radical shift in lifestyle. True conversion necessitates a refusal to compromise our Christian values and half-formed ideas; it requires a deep introspection. Those who believe that others need more conversion than themselves are in need of serious conversion themselves.

À travers elle, nous le contemplons offrant à tous le remède de son salut qui guérit et sauve tous ceux qui se reconnaissent pécheurs, et non pas ceux qui se considèrent comme justes. En effet, Jésus guérit les pécheurs par sa Passion. Il est le bon pasteur qui, en donnant sa vie pour ses brebis, guérit celle qui est blessée et réconforte celle qui est malade. Sa sollicitude ne connaît pas de limite, il sort chercher la brebis perdue jusqu’à ce qu’il la retrouve et il la porte sur ses épaules. Cette tâche rédemptrice est confirmée par Jésus lui-même qui, en s’appropriant les paroles d’Isaïe 61, 1-2 (dans Luc 4,16-21), affirme qu’il est venu guérir ceux qui ont le cœur brisé. Pour cela, le Seigneur nous invite à reconnaître avec humilité et simplicité notre faiblesse, il nous invite à croire en son amour de Père infiniment miséricordieux qui nous pardonne et nous guérit en Jésus et par Jésus.
La noble Perpétue venait d’être mère ; Félicité l’esclave, allait enfanter en prison. Toutes deux étaient chrétiennes. Tandis que Félicité gémissait dans les douleurs de l’enfantement, son geôlier lui dit : ‘’Si tu te plains déjà maintenant, que sera-ce quand tu seras exposée aux bêtes ? Il eût donc bien mieux valu sacrifier aux dieux !’’ Félicité rétorqua : ‘’Aujourd’hui, c’est moi qui souffre ; demain, un Autre en moi souffrira pour moi, parce que je souffrirai pour Lui.’’

1ère lecture : Is 58, 1-9a
Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu: Crie à pleine gorge ! Ne te retiens pas! Que s’élève ta voix comme le cor! Dénonce à mon peuple sa révolte, à la maison de Jacob ses péchés. Ils viennent me consulter jour après jour, ils veulent connaître mes chemins. Comme une nation qui pratiquerait la justice et n’abandonnerait pas le droit de son Dieu, ils me demandent des ordonnances justes, ils voudraient que Dieu soit proche: « Quand nous jeûnons, pourquoi ne le vois-tu pas? Quand nous faisons pénitence, pourquoi ne le sais-tu pas ? » Oui, mais le jour où vous jeûnez, vous savez bien faire vos affaires, et vous traitez durement ceux qui peinent pour vous. Votre jeûne se passe en disputes et querelles, en coups de poing sauvages. Ce n’est pas en jeûnant comme vous le faites aujourd’hui que vous ferez entendre là-haut votre voix. Est-ce là le jeûne qui me plaît, un jour où l’homme se rabaisse? S’agit-il de courber la tête comme un roseau, de coucher sur le sac et la cendre? Appelles-tu cela un jeûne, un jour agréable au Seigneur? Le jeûne qui me plaît, n’est-ce pas ceci: faire tomber les chaînes injustes, délier les attaches du joug, rendre la liberté aux opprimés, briser tous les jougs? N’est-ce pas partager ton pain avec celui qui a faim, accueillir chez toi les pauvres sans abri, couvrir celui que tu verras sans vêtement, ne pas te dérober à ton semblable? Alors ta lumière jaillira comme l’aurore, et tes forces reviendront vite. Devant toi marchera ta justice, et la gloire du Seigneur fermera la marche. Alors, si tu appelles, le Seigneur répondra; si tu cries, il dira : « Me voici. »

Méditation
Le Seigneur situe le jeûne dans le contexte du banquet des temps messianiques lorsque le fiancé est enlevé. Ces images tournent autour du thème central de l’Alliance, qui symbolise le mariage entre Yahvé et Israël : Tu es mon peuple et je suis ton Dieu (Ezéchiel 36, 28). Le Seigneur, à travers les prophètes, appelle son Épouse à la conversion et à la pénitence, mû par l’amour, la miséricorde, la justice et la connaissance de Dieu, pour renouveler la communion perdue qui se rétablira dans les temps messianiques pour une Alliance éternelle. L’étape pénitentielle du Carême et l’ascèse chrétienne manifestent l’absence du fiancé et nous préparent, par le biais de la conversion, au rétablissement de la Nouvelle Alliance dans la célébration de la Pâque, jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit définitivement scellée, par les noces de l’Agneau, dans la Pâque éternelle de la Jérusalem céleste (Apocalypse 21).

Meditation
The Church encourages us to fast, an exercise designed to help us recognise our dependence on God for our lives and sustenance. Through acts of fasting, which involves abstaining notably from excessive eating, drinking, and other festivities, we open ourselves to God, acknowledging our inherent weakness and dependence on Him. Fasting prompts us to realise that our sustenance is not solely reliant on temporary nourishment but ultimately on the Creator of food, who provides eternal sustenance. This practice of fasting serves as a reminder that we are not yet fully united with Christ, whom we love. While Jesus is present among us, we have not fully embraced Him, as His complete glory is yet to be revealed. Fasting becomes a tangible expression of our will and eagerness to be with Him in His fullness.

Meditation
We have a tendency to want to bear someone else’s cross, often assuming it is lighter than ours. Our own cross, the one we must carry, is heavy and inflicts wounds in uncomfortable areas. This cross is not a choice we would willingly make; it does not sit comfortably or is not properly adjusted on our shoulders. It causes considerable pain and is something we would rather not face. This discomfort, the burdensome nature of it, and the reluctance to confront it head-on define the cross we are called upon to bear. Take a moment to reflect on what causes pain in life, those situations where we feel helpless. This passage clearly states that no one can escape the cross because it is an integral part of our lives that we cannot evade.

Heureux est l’homme qui n’entre pas au conseil des méchants, qui ne suit pas le chemin des pécheurs, ne siège pas avec ceux qui ricanent, mais se plaît dans la loi du Seigneur et murmure sa loi jour et nuit !
Il est comme un arbre planté près d’un ruisseau, qui donne du fruit en son temps, et jamais son feuillage ne meurt; tout ce qu’il entreprend réussira. Tel n’est pas le sort des méchants.
Mais ils sont comme la paille balayée par le vent. Le Seigneur connaît le chemin des justes, mais le chemin des méchants se perdra.

Méditation
Ce passage peut nous aider à comprendre la Rédemption de Jésus comme étant le don même de la vie qu’il nous offre en nous donnant sa propre vie. En effet, si le Fils de l’homme doit souffrir beaucoup, être rejeté par les anciens, les grands prêtres et les scribes, être tué et, le troisième jour, ressusciter (Luc 9, 22), c’est pour donner sa vie en rançon pour la multitude (Marc 10.45). Ce passage nous montre également l’aspect fondamental de notre condition de chrétien. Parce que, si par le baptême nous sommes revêtus du Christ (Galates 3, 27), en participant à sa mort et à sa Résurrection, tout notre travail de chrétien, dans le Christ, par lui et en lui, doit être une offrande de Pâque continuelle de nous-mêmes au Père, en tant que victimes vivantes, saintes et agréables à Dieu, en versant notre sang, c’est à dire en « perdant » notre vie pour lui et pour nos frères. À ceci nous avons connu l’Amour : Celui-là a donné sa vie pour nous. Et nous devons, nous aussi donner notre vie pour nos frères (1Jean 3, 16).
à l’occasion de la visite canonique du Supérieur Majeur qui va du 4-10 mars 2025, le Très Révérend Père Jude Thaddeus Langeh Basebang, CMF, à la communauté de Buea dont la Paroisse St. Dominic de Munyenge fait partie, et où ladite visite a commencée (du 4-6 mars), le P. Gaston Mary Muh Njiche, CMF – Curé de ladite Paroisse – a été reconnu et honoré par le Chef traditionnel de Lykoko-Native pour les œuvres humanitaires et de développement qu’il a réalisé depuis son affectation ici, il y a 4 ans environs. Son témoignage de vie et son intégration dans la communauté constituent largement le testament des missionnaires Clarétains dans cette mission plutôt difficile.
Désormais, le Père Gaston porte le titre de MOLA, avec tous les droits, honneurs et responsabilités que cela implique. Félicitations, Mola Fr. Gaston, CMF. Et merci d’avoir fait la fierté de tes frères là où Dieu fait briller sa grâce alors que les hommes ne voient que ténèbres et désespoir. Que le Seigneur continue de t’utiliser comme son instrument préféré comme il veut et où il veut.
C’était aussi l’occasion de présenter au Supérieur Majeur les œuvres et les projets en cours, surtout celui de la construction de l’Eglise. Sur place, et avec l’appuie et les encouragements du Père Jude Thaddeus Langeh, CMF., les fidèles ont pu promettre et faire des gestes vers la réalisation de 12 des 18 poteaux que la chapelle en construction est sensé avoir.
Cette visite du Supérieur Majeur connaitra sa deuxième phase dans la Paroisse Notre Dame des douleurs de Buea du 7 au 10 Mars
