THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD (FEAST)

This celebrates the event when Mary and Joseph presented Jesus in the Temple in Jerusalem, fulfilling the
Mosaic Law’s requirement to consecrate their firstborn son to God. The feast is also known as Candlemas because of the custom of blessing candles, symbolizing Christ as the light of the world. The presentation also commemorates Mary’s ritual purification, which was required 40 days after the birth of a child, according to the Mosaic Law. Candlemas marks the end of the liturgical season of Christmas.

Your merciful love, O God, we have received in the midst of your temple. Your praise, O God, like your name, reaches the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with saving justice.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

May the offering made with exultation by your Church be pleasing to you, O Lord, we pray, for you willed that your Only Begotten Son be offered to you for the life of the world as the Lamb without blemish. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Prayer after Communion
By these holy gifts which we have received, O Lord, bring your grace to perfection within us, and, as you fulfilled Simeon’s expectation that he would not see death until he had been privileged to welcome the Christ, so may we, going forth to meet the Lord, obtain the gift of eternal life. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
“Mary and Joseph took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” The prophet Malachi spoke of the coming of the Lord. This prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus, and his presentation in the Temple was his first public appearance. Through Mary and Joseph, God presented his son Jesus to the Israelites and he also presents him to us. Over the ages, he has offered Jesus to us through his written Word and the teaching and witness of the Church. How do we receive him? Are we prepared to welcome him in our lives? Simeon and Anna are examples of people who were ready to receive Jesus. They had been living holy lives and expecting the Messiah, and when they saw him, they welcomed him with joy. Let us similarly embrace Jesus through a sincere profession of faith, obedience to his Word, and a life of witness to his name. Let us allow him to refine us like gold and purify us, in the words of Malachi, so that our lives may become a sacrifice pleasing and acceptable to him. It is only through him that we, like Simeon and Anna, can attain the fulfilment that we all seek in life.

PRESENTATION DU SEIGNEUR AU TEMPLE, JOURNEE INTERNATIONALE DE LA VIE CONSACREE

Pour accomplir la loi juive, Marie et Joseph viennent au Temple avec Jésus, car celui-ci, étant un premier-né, doit y être présenté. Luc relate cet événement pour mettre en relief le chemin par lequel Jésus passera pour accomplir sa mission de Sauveur universel. En effet, au moment où la Sainte Famille pénètre dans le Temple, l’Esprit Saint fait parler un vieillard qui reconnaît en Jésus le Serviteur annoncé par le livre d’Isaïe. Comme ce Serviteur, le fils de Marie souffrira la contradiction. C’est sous les traits d’un Messie souffrant qu’il réalisera les promesses faites à son peuple, représenté par deux vieillards, Syméon et Anne.

Première lecture : Malachie 3, 1-4

Le messager de l’Alliance que vous désirez, le voici qui vient – dit le Seigneur de l’univers. Qui pourra soutenir le jour de sa venue ? Qui pourra rester debout lorsqu’il se montrera ? Il s’installera pour fondre et purifier : il purifiera les fils de Lévi, il les affinera comme l’or et l’argent ; ainsi pourront-ils, aux yeux du Seigneur, présenter l’offrande en toute justice. Deuxième lecture : He 2, 14-18
Puisque les enfants des hommes ont en commun le sang et la chair, Jésus a partagé, lui aussi, pareille condition : ainsi, par sa mort, il a pu réduire à l’impuissance celui qui possédait le pouvoir de la mort, c’est-à-dire le diable et il a rendu libres tous ceux qui, par crainte de la mort, passaient toute leur vie dans une situation d’esclaves. Car ceux qu’il prend en charge, ce ne sont pas les anges, c’est la descendance d’Abraham. Il lui fallait donc se rendre en tout semblable à ses frères, pour devenir un grand prêtre miséricordieux et digne de foi pour les relations avec Dieu, afin d’enlever les péchés du peuple. Et parce qu’il a souffert jusqu’au bout l’épreuve de sa Passion, il est capable de porter secours à ceux qui subissent une épreuve.

Évangile : Luc 2, 22-40
Quand fut accompli le temps prescrit par la loi de Moïse pour la purification, les parents de Jésus l’amenèrent à Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur, selon ce qui est écrit dans la Loi : Tout premier-né de sexe masculin sera consacré au Seigneur. Ils venaient aussi offrir le sacrifice prescrit par la loi du Seigneur : un couple de tourterelles ou deux petites colombes. Or, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme appelé Syméon. C’était un homme juste et religieux, qui attendait la Consolation d’Israël, et l’Esprit Saint était sur lui. Il avait reçu de l’Esprit Saint l’annonce qu’il ne verrait pas la mort avant d’avoir vu le Christ, le Messie du Seigneur. Sous l’action de l’Esprit, Syméon vint au Temple. Au moment où les parents présentaient l’enfant Jésus pour se conformer au rite de la Loi qui le concernait, Syméon reçut l’enfant dans ses bras, et il bénit Dieu en disant : « Maintenant, ô Maître souverain, tu peux laisser ton serviteur s’en aller en paix, selon ta parole. Car mes yeux ont vu le salut que tu préparais à la face des peuples : lumière qui se révèle aux nations et donne gloire à ton peuple Israël. » Le père et la mère de l’enfant s’étonnaient de ce qui était dit de lui. Syméon les bénit, puis il dit à Marie sa mère : « Voici que cet enfant provoquera la chute et le relèvement de beaucoup en Israël. Il sera un signe de contradiction — et toi, ton âme sera traversée d’un glaive — : ainsi seront dévoilées les pensées qui viennent du cœur d’un grand nombre. » Il y avait aussi une femme prophète, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser. Elle était très avancée en âge ; après sept ans de mariage, demeurée veuve, elle était arrivée à l’âge de 84 ans. Elle ne s’éloignait pas du Temple, servant Dieu jour et nuit dans le jeûne et la prière. Survenant à cette heure même, elle proclamait les louanges de Dieu et parlait de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendaient la délivrance de Jérusalem. Lorsqu’ils eurent achevé tout ce que prescrivait la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, dans leur ville de Nazareth. L’enfant, lui, grandissait et se fortifiait, rempli de sagesse, et la grâce de Dieu était sur lui.
Prière sur les offrandes
Accueille, Seigneur, avec bonté les dons de ton Église en fête : elle te les présente pour le sacrifice de ton Fils unique, puisque tu as voulu qu’il s’offre à toi comme l’Agneau sans tâche pour le salut du monde. Lui qui règne avec toi pour les siècles des siècles.

Nos yeux, Seigneur, ont vu ton salut, que tu as préparé à la face de tous les peuples.
Prière après la communion
Par cette communion, Seigneur, prolonge en nous l’œuvre de ta grâce, toi qui as répondu à l’espérance de Syméon : tu n’as pas voulu qu’il meure avant d’avoir accueilli le Messie ; puissions-nous aussi obtenir la vie éternelle, en allant à la rencontre du Christ. Lui qui règne avec toi pour les siècles des siècles.
Méditation
La fête de la présentation du Seigneur est une opportunité pour les parents de revoir leurs attitudes à la naissance de leurs progénitures. Combien sont-ils qui trouvent utiles de présenter leurs nouveaux nés au Seigneur? Ce geste qui semble banal est, en réalité, un signe de reconnaissance à Dieu pour le don de l’enfant et, une occasion de lui demander de protéger celui ou celle qu’il nous a donné. Aucun parent ne pourrait par lui-même protéger un enfant. Dieu seul en est capable. Pour cela, il faut faire pour ces tout-petits, ce qu’ils ne peuvent pas faire par eux-même.

Meditation
“Happy are you.” Just as Moses went up to Mount Sinai and brought down the Law of the Old Covenant, Jesus goes up the mountain and gives the Law of the New Covenant to the people. This Law is a recipe for happiness; Jesus tells us that if we follow it we will find happiness in this life. We shall find happiness if we are spiritually poor, that is, if we acknowledge our nothingness and total dependence on God despite our material wealth or worldly positions. We shall find happiness if we unite our difficulties and challenges to the sufferings of Christ and turn to him for comfort. We shall find happiness if we are gentle and loving to those we encounter, and if we promote justice and fairness in society. We shall find happiness if we show mercy to those we meet, if we are advocates of peace and unity, and if we purify our intentions such that our words and actions are inspired by God’s Word. We shall find happiness if we remain faithful to God even when we are persecuted. To be a Christian is to be happy, and through the Beatitudes we shall attain happiness, in this world and in the next.

J’aurais beau parler toutes les langues des hommes et des Frères, vous qui avez été appelés par Dieu, regardez bien : parmi vous, il n’y a pas beaucoup de sages aux yeux des hommes, ni de gens puissants ou de haute naissance. Au contraire, ce qu’il y a de fou dans le monde, voilà ce que Dieu a choisi, pour couvrir de confusion les sages; ce qu’il y a de faible dans le monde, voilà ce que Dieu a choisi, pour couvrir de confusion ce qui est fort ; ce qui est d’origine modeste, méprisé dans le monde, ce qui n’est pas, voilà ce que Dieu a choisi, pour réduire à rien ce qui est ; ainsi aucun être de chair ne pourra s’enorgueillir devant Dieu. C’est grâce à Dieu, en effet, que vous êtes dans le Christ Jésus, lui qui est devenu pour nous sagesse venant de Dieu, justice, sanctification, rédemption. Ainsi, comme il est écrit : Celui qui veut être fier, qu’il mette sa fierté dans le Seigneur.

Méditation
En ce quatrième dimanche du temps ordinaire, le Christ dans l’évangile de Matthieu met en évidence les béatitudes assortis chacune d’une promesse. Ce bonheur parfait, il nous invite à le vivre sur la terre en vue du Royaume des cieux où ils sont éternels. La question que chacun devrait se poser en ce jour pour répondre à cette invitation est celle de savoir si, parmi les béatitudes citées, on retrouve une, voir plusieurs qui correspondent à ses habitus sociales.

He was born in Piedmont of a peasant family, and he was brought up by his widowed mother. He became a priest, and his particular concern was for the young. He settled in Turin, where, as in so many cities in the 19th century, the industrial revolution was bringing enormous movements of population and consequent social problems, especially for the young men who came there to work. John Bosco devoted himself to the care of the young, first of all by means of evening classes, to which hundreds came, and then by setting up a boarding-house for apprentices, and then workshops for their training and education.

David grew very angry with that man and said to him: “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this merits death! He shall restore the ewe lamb fourfold because he has done this and has had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David: “You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah to be your wife.’ Thus says the Lord: ‘I will bring evil upon you out of your own house. Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan answered David: “The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die. But since you have utterly spurned the Lord by this deed, the child born to you must surely die.” Then Nathan returned to his house. The Lord struck the child that the wife of Uriah had borne to David, and it became desperately ill. David besought God for the child. He kept a fast, retiring for the night to lie on the ground clothed in sackcloth. “Create a clean heart in me, O Lord.” Jesus, by calming the storm, demonstrated his power over the forces of nature. He also showed that he is greater than the devil, because for the Jews the sea was a symbol of the forces of evil and darkness. If Jesus is greater than the devil, it means he is greater than sin, which we commit because of the devil’s temptation. He is greater than our weakness, and there is no sin that he cannot forgive. David had desired another man’s wife, committed adultery with her, and had her husband killed in order to have her. God in his justice condemned him, but when he acknowledged his sin, God in his mercy pardoned him. God is always ready to forgive us and give us another chance, if and only if we repent and turn back to him. May we always be aware of sin, and may we never hesitate to implore God’s mercy. His love and mercy are larger than our sinfulness; he will always grant us his forgiveness if we sincerely ask for it.

Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: Désormais, l’épée ne s’écartera plus jamais de ta maison, parce que tu m’as méprisé et que tu as pris la femme d’Ourias le Hittite pour qu’elle devienne ta femme. Ainsi parle le Seigneur: De ta propre maison, je ferai surgir contre toi le malheur. Je t’enlèverai tes femmes sous tes yeux et je les donnerai à l’un de tes proches, qui les prendra sous les yeux du soleil. Toi, tu as agi en cachette, mais moi, j’agirai à la face de tout Israël, et à la face du soleil!» David dit à Nathan: «J’ai péché contre le Seigneur!» Nathan lui répondit : « Le Seigneur a passé sur ton péché, tu ne mourras pas. Cependant, parce que tu as bafoué le Seigneur, le fils que tu viens d’avoir mourra.» Et Nathan retourna chez lui. Le Seigneur frappa l’enfant que la femme d’Ourias avait donné à David, et il tomba gravement malade. David implora Dieu pour le petit enfant: il jeûna strictement, et, quand il rentrait chez lui, il passait la nuit couché par terre. Les anciens de sa maison insistaient auprès de lui pour qu’il se relève, mais il refusa, et ne prit avec eux aucune nourriture.

Les disciples le réveillent et lui disent: «Maître, nous sommes perdus; cela ne te fait rien?» Réveillé, il menaça le vent et dit à la mer: « Silence, tais-toi!» Le vent tomba, et il se fit un grand calme. Jésus leur dit: « Pourquoi êtes-vous si craintifs? N’avez-vous pas encore la foi?» Saisis d’une grande crainte, ils se disaient entre eux: « Qui est-il donc, celui-ci, pour que même le vent et la mer lui obéissent ? »
Prière sur les offrandes :
Accepte, Seigneur, le sacrifice que ton peuple consacré t’offre aujourd’hui en l’honneur de saint Jean Bosco ; que notre participation à ce mystère fasse de nous les témoins de ta charité. Par Jésus.

Méditation :
« Maître, nous sommes perdus ; cela ne te fais rien ? » La peur de la mort étreint les disciples et leur cri ressemble plus à un reproche qu’à une prière confiante. On dirait qu’ils croient que Jésus pourrait les laisser périr dans les flots. Ils n’ont pas encore vraiment compris qu’ils ont avec eux dans la barque celui dont parlent les Ecritures : « Si je traverse les ravins de la mort, je ne crains aucun mal, car tu es avec moi. En toi nos pères espéraient et tu les délivrais. Dans ta tendresse, tu ne les as pas abandonnés à la mort, car tu les aimais. » Parfois, il peut nous sembler que le Seigneur est indifférent à notre détresse. Qu’il nous donne alors le courage de continuer de crier vers lui et la confiance en sa promesse : « Je serai avec vous tous les jours jusqu’à la fin du monde ».

SAINTE MARTINE, VIERGE ET MARTYRE

Considérée comme la patronne de Rome sa vie est une légende, sans fondement historique concret, mais elle est néanmoins très vénérée. Sainte Martine est dite avoir été une noble romaine qui s’est convertie au christianisme et a distribué ses richesses aux pauvres. Elle a été arrêtée et torturée pour sa foi, finalement décapitée sous l’empereur Alexandre Sévère.

1ère lecture : 2 S 11, 1-4a.5-10a. 13-17
Au retour du printemps, à l’époque où les rois se mettent en campagne, David envoya Joab en expédition, avec ses officiers et toute l’armée d’Israël ; ils massacrèrent les fils d’Ammone et mirent le siège devant Rabba. David était resté à Jérusalem. Un soir, il se leva de sa couche pour se promener sur la terrasse du palais. De là, il aperçut une femme en train de se baigner. Cette femme était très belle. David fit demander qui elle était, et on lui répondit : « Mais c’est Bethsabée, fille d’Éliam, la femme d’Ourias le Hittite ! » Alors David envoya des gens la chercher. Elle vint chez lui ; il coucha avec elle. La femme devint enceinte, et elle fit savoir à David : « Je suis enceinte ! » Alors David expédia ce message à Joab : « Envoie-moi Ourias le Hittite. » Et Joab l’envoya à David. Lorsque Ourias fut arrivé auprès de lui, David lui demanda comment allaient Joab, et l’armée, et la guerre. Puis il lui dit : « Descends chez toi, prends du repos. » Ourias sortit du palais, et l’on portait derrière lui une portion de la table du roi. Mais Ourias se coucha à l’entrée du palais avec les serviteurs de son maître ; il ne descendit pas chez lui. On annonça à David : « Ourias n’est pas descendu chez lui . » Le lendemain, David l’invita à manger et à boire à sa table, et il l’enivra. Le soir, Ourias sortit et alla se coucher à nouveau avec les serviteurs de son maître ; mais il ne descendit pas chez lui. Le matin suivant, David écrivit une lettre pour Joab, et la fit porter par Ourias. Il disait dans cette lettre : « Mettez Ourias en première ligne, au plus fort de la mêlée, puis repliez-vous derrière lui ; qu’il soit frappé et qu’il meure ! » Joab, qui assiégeait la ville, plaça Ourias à un endroit où il savait que les ennemis étaient en force. Les assiégés firent une sortie contre Joab. Il y eut des tués dans l’armée, parmi les serviteurs de David, et Ourias le Hittite mourut aussi.

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait aux foules : « Il en est du règne de Dieu comme d’un homme qui jette en terre la semence : nuit et jour, qu’il dorme ou qu’il se lève, la semence germe et grandit, il ne sait comment. D’elle-même, la terre produit d’abord l’herbe, puis l’épi, enfin du blé plein l’épi. Et dès que le blé est mûr, il y met la faucille, puisque le temps de la moisson est arrivé. » Il disait encore : « À quoi allons-nous comparer le règne de Dieu ? Par quelle parabole pouvons-nous le représenter ? Il est comme une graine de moutarde : quand on la sème en terre, elle est la plus petite de toutes les semences. Mais quand on l’a semée, elle grandit et dépasse toutes les plantes potagères ; et elle étend de longues branches, si bien que les oiseaux du ciel peuvent faire leur nid à son ombre. » Par de nombreuses paraboles semblables, Jésus leur annonçait la Parole, dans la mesure où ils étaient capables de l’entendre. Il ne leur disait rien sans parabole, mais il expliquait tout à ses disciples en particulier.

Dans ta bonté, Seigneur, accepte notre offrande: Qu’elle soit sanctifiée et serve ainsi à notre salut. Par Jésus.

Méditation :
Cette parabole se prête à de multiples lectures. Le personnage principal de l’histoire, c’est le temps ? C’est lui qui oblige l’homme à se mettre à son pas, qui commande successivement la patience et la décision. Et la leçon que Jésus veut donner est, avant tout, qu’il en va ainsi dans le Règne de Dieu, comme l’expérience la plus constante et la plus banale des hommes. Prendre le rythme d’un autre est une des choses les plus coûteuses qui soient. Il faut savoir que Dieu a, lui aussi, son rythme personnel, et que c’est à nous à bien vouloir nous y ajuster. Vouloir cueillir le fruit avant qu’il ne s’y prête ne mène qu’à compromettre sa maturation, quelquefois fatalement. De tous les discernements, celui des temps est le plus nécessaire ; ce qu’il y a à faire est généralement assez facile à reconnaître. Mais à quel moment il faut le faire, c’est le plus souvent ce qui ne peut être perçu que dans une écoute intérieure très fine de l’Esprit, et c’est aussi de quoi dépendent, pour les trois quarts, les chances de la moisson.

She lived in Rome during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus, under his persecution, she was arrested and ordered to worship pagan idols. She was known for her charitable nature and unwavering faith. She was tortured and beheaded for refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods, according to tradition.

First reading: 2 Samuel 11:1-4a, 5-10a, 13-17
At the turn of the year, when kings go out on campaign, David sent out Joab along with his officers and the army of Israel, and they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. David, however, remained in Jerusalem. One evening David rose from his siesta and strolled about on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing, who was very beautiful. David had inquiries made about the woman and was told, “She is Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam, and wife of Joab’s armor bearer Uriah the Hittite.” Then David sent messengers and took her. When she came to him, he had relations with her. She then returned to her house. But the woman had conceived, and sent the information to David, “I am with child.” David therefore sent a message to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David. When he came, David questioned him about Joab, the soldiers, and how the war was going, and Uriah answered that all was well. David then said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and bathe your feet.” Uriah left the palace, and a portion was sent out after him from the king’s table. But Uriah slept at the entrance of the royal palace with the other officers of his lord, and did not go down to his own house. David was told that Uriah had not gone home. On the day following, David summoned him, and he ate and drank with David, who made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his bed among his lord’s servants, and did not go down to his home. The next morning David wrote a letter to Joab which he sent by Uriah. In it he directed: “Place Uriah up front, where the fighting is fierce. Then pull back and leave him to be struck down dead.” So while Joab was besieging the city, he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew the defenders were strong. When the men of the city made a sortie against Joab, some officers of David’s army fell, and among them Uriah the Hittite died.

Meditation
“The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed.” A mustard seed is very tiny, but when it is planted, it grows slowly and steadily over the years to become a big tree that provides shelter for birds. Similarly, our faith in God is usually manifested in small and seemingly insignificant things: going to mass regularly on Sundays, praying every morning and evening, offering a kind word or a smile to someone, giving a helping hand to a person in need, telling the truth when one could have lied, and trying to do one’s work well or to study with diligence. We may not notice it, but if we persevere in these little acts, over time we shall be slowly but surely transformed. Our belief in God will grow stronger and stronger, and we will become more and more like Christ. The obstacle to this process of transformation is sin, and we are all vulnerable to it. David, the righteous king, fell into temptation; we too sin against God every day. But like the Psalmist, let us never hesitate to return to God for forgiveness; in this way, despite our weaknesses, we will continue to be transformed in the image of Christ.

He was a 6th-century British monk, historian, and saint, known for his work “De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae” (“On the Ruin and Conquest of Britain”). He was born around 500 in the Clyde Valley, educated in Wales, and later established a monastery at Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys in Brittany. He’s considered the first British historian and is known for his writings critical of the moral decline of his time.

Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, receiving the grace by which you bring us to new life, we may always glory in your gift. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
“To the one who has, more will be given.” What do we have? We have life, health, loving families, friends, the chance to receive an education, talents and skills. In short, we have all the blessings that God has given to us. We will receive more blessings from God if we remain in communion with him and work hard to exploit the gifts he has given us. But we will lose the gifts we have if we stray away from God and do not exploit what we have received from him. David had received kingship, wealth and glory from God, and God promised him through the prophet Nathan to bless him and his family forever. Upon receiving this promise, he did not rest on his laurels; rather, he went to God in prayer to thank him and implore him to keep his promise by maintaining his favour on his household. That is how we receive more blessings from God; by always returning to him in prayer and continuously striving to be hardworking and virtuous in our daily dealings. May we hunger and thirst for more and more of God’s blessings.

SAINT GILDAS
(Psautier III –Vert )
Saint Gildas, dit « le sage », est né dans l’île de Bretagne ; il a reçu son éducation dans le Sud-est du pays de Galles actuel. Il s’établit sur le continent y fonda avec quelques compagnons l’abbaye de Rhuys, où il mourut en 570. L’abbaye de Rhuys a conservé son tombeau et développé son culte… Saint Gildas est connu sous les formes bretonnes de Sant Veltas ou Saint Gueltas.

Chantez au Seigneur un chant nouveau, chantez au Seigneur, terre entière: La splendeur et l’éclat, la puissance et la beauté brillent dans son Temple saint!
Prière d’ouverture :
Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, dirige notre vie selon ton amour, Afin qu’au nom de ton Fils bien-aimé, nous portions des fruits en abondance. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : 2 S 7, 18-19.24-29
Lorsque le prophète Nathan eut transmis à David les promesses de Dieu, le roi David vint s’asseoir en présence du Seigneur. Il dit: « Qui suis-je donc, Seigneur, et qu’est-ce que ma maison, pour que tu m’aies conduit jusqu’ici ? Mais cela ne te paraît pas encore suffisant, Seigneur, et tu adresses une parole à la maison de ton serviteur pour un avenir lointain. Est-ce là, Seigneur Dieu, la destiné de l’homme ? Pour toi, tu as établi à jamais ton peuple Israël, et toi, Seigneur, tu es devenu son Dieu. Maintenant donc, Seigneur Dieu, la parole que tu as dite au sujet de ton serviteur et de sa maison, tiens-la pour toujours, et agis selon ce que tu as dit. Que ton nom soit exalté pour toujours! Que l’on dise: “Le Seigneur de l’univers est le Dieu d’Israël”, et la maison de ton serviteur David sera stable en ta présence. Oui, c’est toi, Seigneur de l’univers, Dieu d’Israël, qui as fait cette révélation à ton serviteur: “Je te bâtirai une maison.” C’est pourquoi ton serviteur ose t’adresser cette prière : Seigneur, c’est toi qui es Dieu, tes paroles sont vérité, et tu as fait cette magnifique promesse à ton serviteur. Daigne bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu’elle soit pour toujours en ta présence. Car toi, Seigneur Dieu, tu as parlé, et par ta bénédiction la maison de ton serviteur sera bénie pour toujours. »

R/ Le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David, son père. (Lc 1, 32)
- Souviens-toi, Seigneur, de David et de sa grande soumission quand il fit au Seigneur un serment, une promesse au Puissant de Jacob :
- « Jamais je n’entrerai sous ma tente, j’interdirai tout sommeil à mes yeux avant d’avoir trouvé un lieu pour le Seigneur, une demeure pour le Puissant de Jacob. »
- Le Seigneur l’a juré à David, et jamais il ne reprendra sa parole : « C’est un homme issu de toi que je placerai sur ton trône.
- « Si tes fils gardent mon alliance, les volontés que je leur fais connaître, leurs fils, eux aussi, à tout jamais, siégeront sur le trône dressé pour toi. »
- Car le Seigneur a fait choix de Sion; elle est le séjour qu’il désire: « Voilà mon repos à tout jamais, c’est le séjour que j’avais désiré. »
Acclamation :
Alléluia, alléluia! Ta parole est la lumière de mes pas, la lampe de ma route. Alléluia. (Ps 118, 105)
Évangile : Mc 4, 21-25
En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à la foule: « Est-ce que la lampe est apportée pour être mise sous le boisseau ou sous le lit ? N’est-ce pas pour être mise sur le lampadaire ? Car rien n’est caché, sinon pour être manifesté ; rien n’a été gardé secret, sinon pour venir à la clarté. Si quelqu’un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende ! » Il leur disait encore : « Faites attention à ce que vous entendez ! La mesure que vous utilisez sera utilisée aussi pour vous, et il vous sera donné encore plus. Car celui qui a, on lui donnera ; celui qui n’a pas, on lui enlèvera même ce qu’il a. »
Prière sur les offrandes :
Dans ta bonté, Seigneur, accepte notre offrande: Qu’elle soit sanctifiée et serve ainsi à notre salut. Par Jésus.

Ensemble, approchez du Seigneur: resplendissez de sa lumière et sur votre visage il n’y aura plus d’ombre.
Prière après la communion :
Permets, nous t’en prions, Dieu tout-puissant, Qu’ayant reçu de toi la grâce d’une nouvelle vie, nous puissions nous en émerveiller toujours. Par Jésus.
Méditation :
Les apôtres ne sont guère accordés spontanément aux paroles de Jésus puisqu’il doit sans cesse leur poser des questions comme ferait un bon enseignant. Saint Marc vient nous proposer un temps d’arrêt, comme une pause, une attente secrète : « Rien n’est caché, sinon pour être manifesté. » « Faites attention à ce que vous entendez.» L’annonce du Royaume, lumière en nos nuits d’angoisse, ne peut se confondre avec les tapages médiatiques, éblouissants pour un instant, mais que nous oublions aussitôt. La lumière promise nous conduit et nous comble. L’Evangile nous propose d’ouvrir les yeux de notre cœur et les oreilles de notre intelligence pour que cette Parole lumineuse, qui est la vérité de Jésus-Christ, vienne résonner en nous.
