1ère lecture : 1 R 18, 20-39
En ces jours-là, le roi Acab convoqua tout Israël et réunit les prophètes de Baal sur le mont Carmel. Élie se présenta devant la foule et dit : « Combien de temps allez-vous danser pour l’un et pour l’autre ? Si c’est le Seigneur qui est Dieu, suivez le Seigneur ; si c’est Baal, suivez Baal.» Et la foule ne répondit mot. Élie continua: « Moi, je suis le seul qui reste des prophètes du Seigneur, tandis que les prophètes de Baal sont quatre cent cinquante. Amenez-nous deux jeunes taureaux ; qu’ils en choisissent un, qu’ils le dépècent et le placent sur le bûcher, mais qu’ils n’y mettent pas le feu. Moi, je préparerai l’autre taureau, je le placerai sur le bûcher, mais je n’y mettrai pas le feu. Vous invoquerez le nom de votre dieu, et moi, j’invoquerai le nom du Seigneur: le dieu qui répondra par le feu, c’est lui qui est Dieu. » La foule répondit : « C’est d’accord. » Élie dit alors aux prophètes de Baal : Choisissez votre taureau et commencez, car vous êtes les plus nombreux. Invoquez le nom de votre dieu, mais ne mettez pas le feu. » Ils prirent le taureau et le préparèrent, et ils invoquèrent le nom de Baal depuis le matin jusqu’au milieu du jour, en disant: « ô Baal, réponds-nous ! » Mais il n’y eut ni voix ni réponse ; et ils dansaient devant l’autel qu’ils avaient dressé. Au milieu du jour, Élie se moqua d’eux en disant : « Criez plus fort, puisque c’est un dieu : il a des soucis ou des affaires, ou bien il est en voyage ; il dort peut-être, mais il va se réveiller ! » Ils crièrent donc plus fort et, selon leur coutume, ils se tailladèrent jusqu’au sang avec des épées et des lances. Dans l’après-midi, ils se livrèrent à des transes prophétiques jusqu’à l’heure du sacrifice du soir, mais il n’y eut ni voix, ni réponse, ni le moindre signe. Alors Élie dit à la foule : « Approchez. » Et toute la foule s’approcha de lui. Il releva l’autel du Seigneur, qui avait été démoli. Il prit douze pierres, selon le nombre des tribus des fils de Jacob à qui le Seigneur avait dit : « Ton nom sera Israël. » Avec ces pierres il érigea un autel au Seigneur. Il creusa autour de l’autel une rigole d’une capacité d’environ trente litres. Il disposa le bois, dépeça le taureau et le plaça sur le bûcher. Puis il dit : « Emplissez d’eau quatre cruches, et versez-les sur la victime et sur le bois.» Et l’on fit ainsi. Il dit : « Une deuxième fois ! » Et l’on recommença. Il dit : « Une troisième fois ! » Et l’on recommença encore. L’eau ruissela autour de l’autel, et la rigole elle-même fut remplie d’eau. À l’heure du sacrifice du soir, Élie le prophète s’avança et dit : « Seigneur, Dieu d’Abraham, d’Isaac et d’Israël, on saura aujourd’hui que tu es Dieu en Israël, que je suis ton serviteur, et que j’ai accompli toutes ces choses sur ton ordre. Réponds-moi, Seigneur, réponds-moi, pour que tout ce peuple sache que c’est toi, Seigneur, qui es Dieu, et qui as retourné leur cœur ! » Alors le feu du Seigneur tomba, il dévora la victime et le bois, les pierres et la poussière, et l’eau qui était dans la rigole. Tout le peuple en fut témoin; les gens tombèrent face contre terre et dirent : « C’est le Seigneur qui est Dieu ! C’est le Seigneur qui est Dieu ! »

Évangile : Mt 5, 17-19
En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Ne pensez pas que je sois venu abolir la Loi ou les Prophètes : je ne suis pas venu abolir, mais accomplir. Amen, je vous le dis : Avant que le ciel et la terre disparaissent, pas un seul iota, pas un seul trait ne disparaîtra de la Loi jusqu’à ce que tout se réalise. Donc, celui qui rejettera un seul de ces plus petits commandements, et qui enseignera aux hommes à faire ainsi, sera déclaré le plus petit dans le royaume des Cieux. Mais celui qui les observera et les enseignera, celui-là sera déclaré grand dans le royaume des Cieux. »
Prière sur les offrandes
Seigneur notre Dieu, nous voulons te servir ; regarde notre offrande : qu’elle soit agréable à tes yeux, et nous obtienne un accroissement de charité. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Toute la loi et les prophètes se résument dans le ‘’nouveau commandement’’, aimer Dieu et le prochain comme soi-même. Cette Loi d’amour s’applique jusqu’aux confins de la terre et jusqu’à la fin des temps. Nul ne saurait échapper aux exigences de cette Loi et, dès lors qu’on la respecte, toutes les autres s’appliquent d’elles-mêmes. Les Pharisiens étaient souvent en colère contre Jésus parce selon eux, il enfreignait la Loi : les jours de Sabbat, il arrachait des épis de blé ; il guérissait les malades ; il touchait des lépreux. Il est donc clair pour nous que lorsque Jésus parle de la Loi, c’est sous un aspect transformé, tel que défini dans le contexte de son enseignement : ‘’Aimer Dieu et aimer son prochain comme soi-même’’. Ne pas respecter un de ces commandements est assez mal ; apprendre à quelqu’un d’autre à le faire est terrible. Proclamons-nous un tel enseignement ou, suivant nos propres opinions, nous nous opposons à cette loi ?

Onuphrius lived as a hermit in the desert for seventy years. In the desert he suffered much from privation of food and drink, and also from many temptations. He spent his life praying and working until his death at the age of ninety. It was about the year 400.

First reading : 1 Kings 18:20-39
Ahab called all Israel together and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. Elijah stepped out in front of all the people. ‘How long’ he said ‘do you mean to hobble first on one leg then on the other? If the Lord is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him.’ But the people never said a word. Elijah then said to them, ‘I, I alone, am left as a prophet of the Lord, while the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty. Let two bulls be given us; let them choose one for themselves, dismember it and lay it on the wood, but not set fire to it. I in my turn will prepare the other bull, but not set fire to it. You must call on the name of your god, and I shall call on the name of mine; the god who answers with fire, is God indeed.’ The people all answered, ‘Agreed!’ Elijah then said to the prophets of Baal, ‘Choose one bull and begin, for there are more of you. Then Elijah said to all the people, ‘Come closer to me’, and all the people came closer to him. He repaired the altar of the Lord which had been broken down. Elijah took twelve stones, corresponding to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of the Lord had come, ‘Israel shall be your name’, and built an altar in the name of the Lord. Round the altar he dug a trench of a size to hold two measures of seed. He then arranged the wood, dismembered the bull, and laid it on the wood. Meditation
Today, we are presented with the affirmation of Christ to the law and the prophets. Jesus was against the attitude of the Pharisees and their holier-than-thou attitude. They create multiple laws that they do not follow. Jesus’s basic attitude toward the Jewish inheritance was positive and sympathetic, even though it included criticism of some development he judged harmful. The teaching of Jesus Christ about the law is that, even the smallest matters of the law are important and must not be relaxed.

Le titre d’Apôtre ne signifie pas que Joseph, surnommé Barnabé (c’est-à-dire ‘’fils d’encouragement’’), ait été l’un des Douze, mais qu’il joua un rôle capital dans la diffusion de l’Evangile. En entrant dans la communauté chrétienne, cet homme de foi a mis tous ses biens à la disposition des Apôtres.
Antienne d’ouverture : Ac 11, 24
Heureux, saint Barnabé, qui fut digne d’être compté parmi les apôtres : c’était un homme de bien, rempli de l’Esprit Saint et de foi.
Prière d’ouverture
Dieu qui as dit de mettre à part saint Barnabé, cet homme plein de foi et de l’Esprit Saint, pour qu’il porte aux païens le message du salut ; fais que l’Évangile du Christ, dont saint Barnabé fut l’Apôtre courageux, soit encore annoncé fidèlement en paroles et en actes. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Ac 11, 21b-26 ; 13, 1-3
En ces jours-là, à Antioche, un grand nombre de gens devinrent croyants et se tournèrent vers le Seigneur. La nouvelle parvint aux oreilles de l’Église de Jérusalem, et l’on envoya Barnabé jusqu’à Antioche. À son arrivée, voyant la grâce de Dieu à l’œuvre, il fut dans la joie. Il les exhortait tous à rester d’un cœur ferme attachés au Seigneur. C’était en effet un homme de bien, rempli d’Esprit Saint et de foi. Une foule considérable s’attacha au Seigneur. Barnabé partit alors à Tarse chercher Saul. L’ayant trouvé, il l’amena à Antioche. Pendant toute une année, ils participèrent aux assemblées de l’Église,
ils instruisirent une foule considérable. Et c’est à Antioche que, pour la première fois, les disciples reçurent le nom de « chrétiens ». Or il y avait dans l’Église qui était à Antioche des prophètes et des hommes chargés d’enseigner : Barnabé, Syméon appelé Le Noir, Lucius de Cyrène, Manahène, compagnon d’enfance d’Hérode le Tétrarque, et Saul. Un jour qu’ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur et qu’ils jeûnaient, l’Esprit Saint leur dit :
« Mettez à part pour moi Barnabé et Saul en vue de l’œuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés. » Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, et leur avoir imposé les mains, ils les laissèrent partir.

Par ta bénédiction, Seigneur, sanctifie nos offrandes: qu’elles nous obtiennent de ta grâce cet ardent amour qui portait saint Barnabé à transmettre aux nations païennes la lumière de l’Évangile. Par Jésus.

Après avoir reçu de toi, Seigneur, le gage de la vie éternelle, nous te supplions humblement : fais que nous saisissions un jour en plénitude le mystère que nous célébrons dans ces rites en mémoire de l’Apôtre saint Barnabé. Par Jésus.
Méditation
L’Evangile du jour met en exerge l’intégrité attendue des disciples de Jésus en tant qu’individus et en tant que membres des institutions. La société (le Royaume) que Jésus propose est construite sur la confiance qui n’a nullement besoin de recourir aux serments pour croire les uns aux autres. Lorsque nous essayons de faire attention à la façon dont nous communiquons, nous nous rendons compte que nous devons demander à Dieu de travailler sur ce qui se passe dans notre cœur. Éviter le langage qui est offensant ou nuisible est une chose, être sincère et voir ce qui se passe dans mon cœur en est une autre. Comment suis-je fidèle à la vérité avant d’être fidèle à moi-même devant Dieu?

Saint Barnabas was born in Cyprus. He accompanied Paul on his first missionary journey and later went to Cyprus with his cousin John Mark (Mark the evangelist) to preach the gospel there. He was probably martyred at Salamis in Cyprus, some time before the year 61.
Entrance Antiphon : Cf. Acts 11: 24
Blessed is this holy man, who was worthy to be numbered among the Apostles, for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith.

O God, who decreed that Saint Barnabas, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, should be set apart to convert the nations, grant that the Gospel of Christ, which he strenuously preached, may be faithfully proclaimed by word and by deed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading : Acts 11:21-26,13:1-3
A great number believed and were converted to the Lord. The Church in Jerusalem heard about this and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. There he could see for himself that God had given grace, and this pleased him, and he urged them all to remain faithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion; for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people were won over to the Lord. Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. As things turned out they were to live together in that Church a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called ‘Christians.’ In the Church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, ‘I want Barnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have called them.’ So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

Sanctify with your blessing, we pray, O Lord, the offerings presented here, so that by your grace they may set us on fire with the flame of your love, by which Saint Barnabas brought the light of the Gospel to the nations. Through Christ our Lord.

As we receive the pledge of eternal life, we humbly implore you, Lord, that what we celebrate in sacramental signs on the Memorial of the blessed Apostle Barnabas we may one day behold unveiled. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Again, Jesus presents us with the path to true worship and authentic righteousness. Swearing by anything negates God’s sanctity because everything in creation is from God and depends on God. Jesus Christ is God’s permanent yes, and we need to model our life to oppose hypocrisy and embrace ideal simplicity. The Ten Commandments say, “Do not take the name of God in vain or bear false witness”. This enjoins us to always speak the truth in important matters. We pray that God’s grace will lead us to speak the truth always, which will set us free.

En ces jours-là, sur l’ordre du prophète Élie, au bout d’un certain temps, il ne tombait plus une goutte de pluie dans tout le pays, et le torrent où buvait le prophète finit par être à sec. Alors la parole du Seigneur lui fut adressée : « Lève-toi, va à Sarepta, dans le pays de Sidon ;
tu y habiteras ; il y a là une veuve que j’ai chargée de te nourrir. » Le prophète Élie partit pour Sarepta, et il parvint à l’entrée de la ville. Une veuve ramassait du bois ; il l’appela et lui dit : « Veux-tu me puiser, avec ta cruche, un peu d’eau pour que je boive ? » Elle alla en puiser. Il lui dit encore : « Apporte-moi aussi un morceau de pain. » Elle répondit : « Je le jure par la vie du Seigneur ton Dieu : je n’ai pas de pain. J’ai seulement, dans une jarre, une poignée de farine, et un peu d’huile dans un vase. Je ramasse deux morceaux de bois, je rentre préparer pour moi et pour mon fils ce qui nous reste. Nous le mangerons, et puis nous mourrons. » Élie lui dit alors : « N’aie pas peur, va, fais ce que tu as dit Mais d’abord cuis-moi une petite galette et apporte-la moi, ensuite tu en feras pour toi et ton fils. Car ainsi parle le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël:
Jarre de farine point ne s’épuisera, vase d’huile point ne se videra, jusqu’au jour où le Seigneur donnera la pluie pour arroser la terre. » La femme alla faire ce qu’Élie lui avait demandé, et pendant longtemps, le prophète, elle-même et son fils eurent à manger. Méditation
Les Béatitudes sont une fenêtre ouverte sur l’esprit et sur le cœur de Dieu. Elles nous montrent ce qui est dans le Coeur de Jésus, ce qu’il considérait comme signes du Royaume de Dieu. Le royaume de Dieu, tel que Jésus le décrit, renverse radicalement notre façon habituelle de voir, juger et agir dans le monde avec ce qu’il renferme. C’est la capacité de regarder la vie d’une manière entièrement neuve et dans une perspective complètement inédite. Chacune de ces «béatitudes» est un idéal de vie chrétienne et une voie pour trouver Dieu proche de nous. Passer en revue notre vie en rapport aux béatituses nous aiderait à nous situer dans notre relation avec Dieu et le prochain et ainsi voir si elles ont leur place. Dieu est proche de nous dans ces moments évoqués dans les béatitudes. Que la grâce de vivre selon cette vision de la vie, qui était à la base de la vie de Jésus soit la lumière de nos pas en ce monde.

In today’s world, people pursue clichés like ‘self-love’, ‘self-expression’, and ‘licentiousness’ as keys to happiness, yet end up with mental health issues, fears, insecurities, anxieties, and unhappiness. Why not try Jesus’ advice – «You are told, “You cannot be happy unless you are rich?” Jesus says, “Happy are the poor in spirit.” “Revenge is sweet?” No, Jesus says, “Happy are the patient.” To those who say: «If nature gave you carnal instincts, you ought to give them free expression; otherwise, you will become frustrated,» He says, “Happy are the clean of heart.” To those who say, “Seek to be popular and well known,” He says, “Happy are you when men revile you and persecute you and speak all manner of evil against you falsely because of Me.” To those who say, «In time of peace, prepare for war,» He says, “Happy are the peacemakers.”

1ère lecture : Genèse 3, 9-15

Des profondeurs je crie vers toi, Seigneur, Seigneur, écoute ma voix ! O que vos oreilles soient attentives à la voix de ma supplication.
Si vous, Seigneur, marquez notre culpabilité, Seigneur, qui survivra? Mais auprès de vous se trouve le pardon : pour cela nous vous vénérons.
Mon âme attend le Seigneur. Je compte sur sa parole. Mon âme désire le Seigneur plus qu’un guetteur pour le lever du jour. (Que la sentinelle compte sur le lever du jour et Israël sur le Seigneur.)
Parce qu’avec le Seigneur il y a miséricorde et plénitude de rédemption, il rachètera en effet Israël de toute son iniquité.
2ème lecture : 2 Corinthiens 4, 13-5, 1
Frères, l’Écriture dit : J’ai cru, c’est pourquoi j’ai parlé. Et nous aussi, qui avons le même esprit de foi, nous croyons, et c’est pourquoi nous parlons. Car, nous le savons, celui qui a ressuscité le Seigneur Jésus nous ressuscitera, nous aussi, avec Jésus, et il nous placera près de lui avec vous. Et tout cela, c’est pour vous, afin que la grâce, plus largement répandue
dans un plus grand nombre, fasse abonder l’action de grâce pour la gloire de Dieu. Les gens de chez lui, l’apprenant, vinrent pour se saisir de lui, car ils affirmaient : « Il a perdu la tête. » Les scribes, qui étaient descendus de Jérusalem, disaient : « Il est possédé par Béelzéboul ; c’est par le chef des démons qu’il expulse les démons. » Les appelant près de lui, Jésus leur dit en parabole : « Comment Satan peut-il expulser Satan ? Si un royaume est divisé contre lui-même, ce royaume ne peut pas tenir. Si les gens d’une même maison se divisent entre eux, ces gens ne pourront pas tenir. Si Satan s’est dressé contre lui-même, s’il est divisé, il ne peut pas tenir; c’en est fini de lui. Restant au-dehors, ils le font appeler. Une foule était assise autour de lui ; et on lui dit :« Voici que ta mère et tes frères sont là dehors : ils te cherchent. » Mais il leur répond : « Qui est ma mère ? qui sont mes frères ? » Et parcourant du regard ceux qui étaient assis en cercle autour de lui, il dit : « Voici ma mère et mes frères. Méditation
La finale de l’Evangile de ce dimanche s’inscrit à l’opposé des privilèges que nous nous octroyons comme humain par des liens de sang. Nul ne peut se prévaloir d’une intimité de droit naturel avec le Seigneur. L’appartenance à la religion chrétienne ou à une race privilégiée comme l’est celle des Juifs ne confère rien. Après l’intervention des proches du Seigneur, sa mère elle-même entre en scène pour appeler Jésus. Les sentiments naturels d’une mère sont si forts que, passant outre à toute convenance vis-à-vis de ce fils dont elle connaissait l’origine, Marie cherche à faire valoir ses droits. C’est alors l’occasion pour le Seigneur de dire ce que doit être une relation vitale avec lui. Il est en train de fonder une nouvelle communauté basée non sur des liens de sang ni sur la sensibilité de la vie du village. La relation selon la naissance était dorénavant terminée, vu le rejet que les chefs du peuple lui avaient signifié. La seule relation pouvant être établie, et que le Seigneur reconnaît est celle basée sur l’écoute de la Parole et l’obéissance à la volonté de Dieu.

As we have the same spirit of faith that is mentioned in scripture – I believed, and therefore I spoke – we too believe and therefore we too speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us. You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people, the more thanksgiving there will be, to the glory of God. That is why there is no weakening on our part, and instead, though this outer man of ours may be falling into decay, the inner man is renewed day by day. Yes, the troubles which are soon over, though they weigh little, train us for the carrying of a weight of eternal glory which is out of all proportion to them. And so we have no eyes for things that are visible, but only for things that are invisible; for visible things last only for a time, and the invisible things are eternal. For we know that when the tent that we live in on earth is folded up, there is a house built by God for us, an everlasting home not made by human hands, in the heavens.

Jesus went home with his disciples, and such a crowd collected that they could not even have a meal. The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, ‘Beelzebul is in him’ and, ‘It is through the prince of devils that he casts devils out.’ So he called them to him and spoke to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never stand. Now if Satan has rebelled against himself and is divided, he cannot stand either – it is the end of him. But no one can make his way into a strong man’s house and burgle his property unless he has tied up the strong man first. Only then can he burgle his house. ‘I tell you solemnly, all men’s sins will be forgiven, and all their blasphemies; but let anyone blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and he will never have forgiveness: he is guilty of an eternal sin.’ This was because they were saying, ‘An unclean spirit is in him.’ His mother and brothers now arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him. Meditation
Jesus cautions the Scribes to beware of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, saying it is unforgivable. God’s mercy is limitless, and all sins are forgiven through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus breathed on his disciples, saying: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit; whoever’s sins you forgive, they are forgiven.’ The Spirit nudges us toward penance and delivers God’s mercy and forgiveness. To blaspheme against the Spirit is to deliberately refuse to acknowledge and accept the mercy of God, to reject the prompting of the Holy Spirit towards repentance and the offer of salvation, to believe that one is irredeemable by one’s self-conviction, to be impenitent till the end of time. «God never tires of forgiving us; let us never tire of asking God’s forgiveness.»

The Immaculate Heart of Mary
White
Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary began as early as the twelfth century. During the seventeenth century in France, St John Eudes popularised this devotion along with that to the Sacred Heart. St Luke’s Gospel twice mentions that Mary ‘kept all these things in her heart’, pondering the word of God. Mary shows us how to listen to the words the Holy Spirit speaks to us in the depths of our hearts, and how to respond in faith.

My heart will rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, who has been bountiful with me.

O God, who prepared a fit dwelling place for the Holy Spirit in the Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, graciously grant that through her intercession we may be a worthy temple of your glory. First reading: 2 Timothy 4:1-8
Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be judge of the living and the dead, I put this duty to you, in the name of his Appearing and of his kingdom: proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct error, call to obedience – but do all with patience and with the intention of teaching. The time is sure to come when, far from being content with sound teaching, people will be avid for the latest novelty and collect themselves a whole series of teachers according to their own tastes; and then, instead of listening to the truth, they will turn to myths. Be careful always to choose the right course; be brave under trials; make the preaching of the Good News your life’s work, in thoroughgoing service. Gospel: Luke 2:41-51
Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, ‘My child, why have, you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’ ‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied. ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant. He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority. His mother stored up all these things in her heart.

Imagine how Mary felt when she realised that Jesus was missing and nowhere to be found! What will she say to God when asked: «Where is my son?» As Simeon prophesied, Mary’s heart must have felt a sword pierce through it. This act must have been a prelude to the profound experience many years later at the foot of the cross. Mary’s heart is pierced even deeper. The Immaculate Heart of Mary understands how it feels to lose Jesus and to experience the human pain of not ‘hoarding’ Jesus but letting him go for a greater purpose of salvation for all. Let us invoke the Immaculate Heart for all who experience the emptiness of life without Christ and all who share in some ways the stigmata and excruciating pain associated with the mission of taking Christ to the world

Dans la Bible, le cœur symbolise la vie personnelle de l’homme en sa source profonde, le centre d’où jaillissent les pensées, autant que les désirs et la liberté. Dieu seul connaît les cœurs, ces cœurs qu’il a créés pour les combler de sa présence et leur communiquer sa vie. Il a trouvé en Marie un cœur pur de tout égoïsme, toujours attentif à sa parole, totalement livré à son Esprit ; il a pu lui révéler son dessein de salut et lui donner d’y coopérer à titre de mère du Sauveur. La fête dont saint Jean Eudes fut le promoteur au 17e siècle, fut étendue à toute l’Eglise par Pie XII en 1942..

Le Seigneur Dieu t’a bénie, Vierge Marie, plus que toutes les femmes de la terre : il a glorifié ton nom de telle manière que ta louange sera toujours sur toutes les lèvres.
Prière d’ouverture
Accorde-nous, Seigneur, d’imiter la bienheureuse Vierge marie dans sa coopération à l’œuvre du salut de ton Fils, de telle sorte que, sous la conduite du Saint Esprit, nous progressions dans la foi, l’espérance et la charité et que nous puissions travailler au salut de tous les hommes. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : 2 Timothée 4, 1-8
Bien-aimé, devant Dieu, et devant le Christ Jésus qui va juger les vivants et les morts, je t’en conjure, au nom de sa Manifestation et de son Règne:proclame la Parole, interviens à temps et à contretemps, dénonce le mal, fais des reproches, encourage, toujours avec patience et souci d’instruire. Un temps viendra où les gens ne supporteront plus l’enseignement de la saine doctrine ; mais, au gré de leurs caprices, ils iront se chercher une foule de maîtres pour calmer leur démangeaison d’entendre du nouveau. Ils refuseront d’entendre la vérité pour se tourner vers des récits mythologiques. Mais toi, en toute chose garde la mesure, supporte la souffrance, fais ton travail d’évangélisateur, accomplis jusqu’au bout ton ministère. Moi, en effet, je suis déjà offert en sacrifice, le moment de mon départ est venu. J’ai mené le bon combat, j’ai achevé ma course, j’ai gardé la foi. Je n’ai plus qu’à recevoir la couronne de la justice :
le Seigneur, le juste juge, me la r mettra en ce jour-là, et non seulement à moi, mais aussi à tous ceux qui auront désiré avec amour sa Manifestation glorieuse.
Psaume : 70(71), 8-9,14-17,22
R/ Ma bouche annonce ton salut, Seigneur. (cf. Ps 70, 15ab)
Je n’avais que ta louange à la bouche, tout le jour, ta splendeur.Ne me rejette pas maintenant que j’ai vieilli ; alors que décline ma vigueur, ne m’abandonne pas.
Et moi qui ne cesse d’espérer, j’ajoute encore à ta louange. Ma bouche annonce tout le jour tes actes de justice et de salut.
Je revivrai les exploits du Seigneur en rappelant que ta justice est la seule. Mon Dieu, tu m’as instruit dès ma jeunesse, jusqu’à présent, j’ai proclamé tes merveilles.
Et moi, je te rendrai grâce sur la harpe pour ta vérité, ô mon Dieu ! Je jouerai pour toi de ma cithare, Saint d’Israël !

Evangile : Luc 2, 41-51
Chaque année, les parents de Jésus se rendaient à Jérusalem pour la fête de la Pâque. Quand il eut douze ans,
ils montèrent en pèlerinage suivant la coutume. À la fin de la fête, comme ils s’en retournaient, le jeune Jésus resta à Jérusalem à l’insu de ses parents. Pensant qu’il était dans le convoi des pèlerins, ils firent une journée de chemin avant de le chercher parmi leurs parents et connaissances. Ne le trouvant pas, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem, en continuant à le chercher. C’est au bout de trois jours qu’ils le trouvèrent dans le Temple, assis au milieu des docteurs de la Loi : il les écoutait et leur posait des questions, et tous ceux qui l’entendaient s’extasiaient sur son intelligence et sur ses réponses. En le voyant, ses parents furent frappés d’étonnement, et sa mère lui dit : « Mon enfant, pourquoi nous as-tu fait cela ? Vois comme ton père et moi,
nous avons souffert en te cherchant!»
Il leur dit : « Comment se fait-il que vous m’ayez cherché ? Ne saviez-vous pas qu’il me faut être chez mon Père ? » Mais ils ne comprirent pas ce qu’il leur disait. Il descendit avec eux pour se rendre à Nazareth,
et il leur était soumis. Sa mère gardait dans son cœur tous ces événements.
Prière sur les offrandes
Nous déposons ces offrandes sur ton autel, Seigneur, en célébrant la mémoire de la bienheureuse Vierge Marie qui a offert ton Fils au pied de la croix ; accorde-nous, dans ta bonté, d’agréer l’offrande de notre vie. Qu’elle te soit toujours agréable. Par Jésus, le Christ.
Antienne de la communion
Tous les âges me diront bienheureuse, parce que Dieu a regardé son humble servante.
Prière après la communion
Seigneur notre Dieu, que le pain céleste, reçu par nous en vénérant la Vierge Marie Immaculée, nous aide à coopérer à sa fonction maternelle par la mission apostolique. Par Jésus, le Christ.
Méditation
Le chemin de vie que nous présente le Seigneur Jésus est un chemin de don total, d’offrande de tout ce qu’il nous a donné, y compris de ce qui nous paraît important et nécessaire pour survivre. Quand il nous présente l’exemple de la pauvre veuve qui a donné tout ce qu’elle possédait, il nous semble impossible de tout laisser, comme si Jésus nous défiait de nous passer de l’indispensable. L’image qu’il nous donne dans l’évangile n’est pas facile à comprendre, car la comparaison avec les riches qui donnent quantitativement beaucoup plus que la veuve ne pourrait se comprendre hors de la perspective du total abandon, de la pleine confiance. De fait, tout au long de la Bible et de l’enseignement même de Jésus, on observe d’innombrables occasions au cours desquelles il nous invite à vivre dans la confiance en lui seul, à rechercher le Royaume, à chercher à être les derniers et non les premiers. C’est la Bonne Nouvelle : laisser le projet de Dieu se manifester totalement, en mettant de côté tout ce qui fait obstacle à la présence explicite du Ressuscité dans nos vies.
