Que ta grâce, Seigneur notre Père, se répande en nos coeurs : Par le message de l’ange, tu nous as fait connaître l’incarnation de ton Fils bien-aimé, conduis-nous par sa passion et par sa croix jusqu’à la gloire de la résurrection. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : 2 S 7, 1-5.8b-12.14a.16
Le roi David habitait enfin dans sa maison. Le Seigneur lui avait accordé la tranquillité en le délivrant de tous les ennemis qui l’entouraient. Le roi dit alors au prophète Nathan : « Regarde ! J’habite dans une maison de cèdre, et l’arche de Dieu habite sous un abri de toile ! » Nathan répondit au roi : « Tout ce que tu as l’intention de faire, fais-le, car le Seigneur est avec toi. » Mais, cette nuit-là, la parole du Seigneur fut adressée à Nathan : « Va dire à mon serviteur David : Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Est-ce toi qui me bâtiras une maison pour que j’y habite ? C’est moi qui t’ai pris au pâturage, derrière le troupeau, pour que tu sois le chef de mon peuple Israël. J’ai été avec toi partout où tu es allé, j’ai abattu devant toi tous tes ennemis. Je t’ai fait un nom aussi grand que celui des plus grands de la terre. Je fixerai en ce lieu mon peuple Israël, je l’y planterai, il s’y établira et ne tremblera plus, et les méchants ne viendront plus l’humilier, comme ils l’ont fait autrefois, depuis le jour où j’ai institué des juges pour conduire mon peuple Israël. Oui, je t’ai accordé la tranquillité en te délivrant de tous tes ennemis. Le Seigneur t’annonce qu’il te fera lui-même une maison. Quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu reposeras auprès de tes pères, je te susciterai dans ta descendance un successeur, qui naîtra de toi, et je rendrai stable sa royauté. Moi, je serai pour lui un père ; et lui sera pour moi un fils.
Ta maison et ta royauté subsisteront toujours devant moi, ton trône sera stable pour toujours. »

Frères, à Celui qui peut vous rendre forts selon mon Évangile qui proclame Jésus Christ : révélation d’un mystère gardé depuis toujours dans le silence, mystère maintenant manifesté au moyen des écrits prophétiques, selon l’ordre du Dieu éternel, mystère porté à la connaissance de toutes les nations pour les amener à l’obéissance de la foi, à Celui qui est le seul sage, Dieu, par Jésus Christ, à lui la gloire pour les siècles. Or voici que, dans sa vieillesse, Élisabeth, ta parente, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils et en est à son sixième mois, alors qu’on l’appelait la femme stérile. Car rien n’est impossible à Dieu. » Marie dit alors : « Voici la servante du Seigneur ; que tout m’advienne selon ta parole. » Alors l’ange la quitta.
Prière sur les offrandes
Que ton Esprit, Seigneur notre Dieu, dont la puissance a fécondé le sein de la Vierge Marie, consacre les offrandes posées sur cet autel. Par Jésus.

Nous avons reçu dans ton sacrement, Seigneur, le gage de la rédemption éternelle; Accorde-nous une ferveur qui grandisse à l’approche de Noël, pour bien fêter la naissance de ton Fils. Lui qui.
Méditation Offrir à Dieu une « maison » serait une pensée ou une idée réfléchie et noble. Cependant, c’est Dieu qui, à travers Nathan, le prophète promet à David de lui en donner une. Le véritable Temple, c’est Jésus, le Messie. Tout comme David, nous devons comprendre qu’il nous faut rester toujours petit devant Dieu. Ce n’est pas nous qui donnons à Dieu, c’est plutôt Lui qui nous donne. Il vient pour se donner à nous. A travers le corps de Marie, il nous fait devenir sa propre demeure, la demeure de Sa Présence sacrée.

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. First reading: 2 Samuel 7:1-5,8-12,14,16
Once David had settled into his house and the Lord had given him rest from all the enemies surrounding him, the king said to the prophet Nathan, “Look, I am living in a house of cedar while the ark of God dwells in a tent.” Nathan said to the king, “Go and do all that is in your mind, for the Lord is with you.” But that very night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus the Lord speaks: Are you the man to build me a house to dwell in? Second reading: Romans 16:25-27

The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. The Lord is with you.” She was deeply disturbed by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean, but the angel said to her, “Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God’s favour. Listen! Prayer after Communion
Having received this pledge of eternal redemption, we pray, almighty God, that, as the feast day of our salvation draws ever nearer, so we may press forward all the more eagerly to the worthy celebration of the mystery of your Son’s Nativity. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Meditation
At the annunciation, God came to visit a single person in particular, Mary. The Lord will hence live in her home, with her and in her. God makes his home among men in our own humanity, in each of us. Like the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are called to welcome the Lord and let him dwell among us. The dwelling of the Lord amongst men first depends on the heart of each Christian who says yes to God at baptism and is open to the action of the Holy Spirit in them. Saint Paul tells us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Through the sacraments of Christian Initiation: we make of ourselves the dwelling place of God. We sometimes have the tendency of forgetting this mystery which is being renewed daily in us. Let us be conscious of every moment of the glorious presence of Jesus in our lives, in us, in our hearts and in all we do.

Prière d’ouverture
Dieu éternel et tout-puissant, nous allons bientôt célébrer la naissance de ton Fils ; il a voulu prendre chair de la Vierge Marie, il s’est lié pour toujours à notre humanité : fais qu’il montre ta miséricorde aux pauvres serviteurs que nous sommes. Lui qui règne.
1ère lecture : Ml 3, 1-4.23-24
Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu : Voici que j’envoie mon messager pour qu’il prépare le chemin devant moi ; et soudain viendra dans son Temple le Seigneur que vous cherchez. Le messager de l’Alliance que vous désirez, le voici qui vient, – dit le Seigneur de l’univers. Qui pourra soutenir le jour de sa venue ? Qui pourra rester debout lorsqu’il se montrera? Car il est pareil au feu du fondeur, pareil à la lessive des blanchisseurs. Il s’installera pour fondre et purifier : il purifiera les fils de Lévi, il les affinera comme l’or et l’argent ; ainsi pourront-ils, aux yeux du Seigneur, présenter l’offrande en toute justice. Seigneur, enseigne-moi tes voies, fais-moi connaître ta route. Dirige-moi par ta vérité, enseigne-moi, car tu es le Dieu qui me sauve.
Il est droit, il est bon, le Seigneur, lui qui montre aux pécheurs le chemin. Sa justice dirige les humbles, il enseigne aux humbles son chemin.
Les voies du Seigneur sont amour et vérité pour qui veille à son alliance et à ses lois. Le secret du Seigneur est pour ceux qui le craignent ; à ceux-là, il fait connaître son alliance.

Évangile : Lc 1, 57-66
Quand fut accompli le temps où Élisabeth devait enfanter, elle mit au monde un fils. Ses voisins et sa famille apprirent que le Seigneur lui avait montré la grandeur de sa miséricorde, et ils se réjouissaient avec elle. Le huitième jour, ils vinrent pour la circoncision de l’enfant. Ils voulaient l’appeler Zacharie, du nom de son père. Mais sa mère prit la parole et déclara : « Non, il s’appellera Jean. » On lui dit : « Personne dans ta famille ne porte ce nom-là ! » On demandait par signes au père comment il voulait l’appeler. Il se fit donner une tablette sur laquelle il écrivit : « Jean est son nom. » Et tout le monde en fut étonné. À l’instant même, sa bouche s’ouvrit, sa langue se délia : il parlait et il bénissait Dieu. La crainte saisit alors tous les gens du voisinage et, dans toute la région montagneuse de Judée, on racontait tous ces événements. Tous ceux qui les apprenaient les conservaient dans leur cœur et disaient : « Que sera donc cet enfant ? » En effet, la main du Seigneur était avec lui.

Méditation
Dieu par le prophète Isaïe avait annoncé la venue d’un messager, précurseur du Seigneur, qui devrait préparer son chemin : il ramènera le cœurs des pères vers leurs fils, et le cœur des fils vers leurs pères, pour que je ne vienne pas frapper d’anathème le pays ». Jean est le messager de Dieu a envoyé au-devant, c’est l’Elie qui va annoncer la proximité du Royaume de Dieu et la conversion à travers le baptême dans l’Esprit Saint que Jésus viendra Lui-même administrer. Avec Jean le Seigneur fait grâce, en Jésus le Seigneur sauve : la grâce de Dieu c’est de sauver son peuple. Le jour du Seigneur, c’est leur œuvre, l’un annonce, l’autre le réalise.

SAINT John of Kęty
O Emmanuel !
He was born in Kety in the diocese of Kraków in 1390. He became a priest and for many years taught at the University of Kraków; later he became parish priest of Olkusz. He taught and researched in both physics and theology and excelled in holiness and in charity towards his neighbour, in which he was an example to his colleagues and pupils. He died in 1473.

A child shall be born for us, and he will be called God, the Almighty; every tribe of the earth shall be blest in him.
Collect
Almighty ever-living God, as we see how the Nativity of your Son according to the flesh draws near, we pray that to us, your unworthy servants, mercy may flow from your Word, who chose to become flesh of the Virgin Mary and establish among us his dwelling, Jesus Christ our Lord. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: Malachi 3:1-4,23-24
The Lord God says this: “Look, I am going to send my messenger to prepare a way before me. Gospel: Luke 1: 57-66
The time came for Elizabeth to have her child, and she gave birth to a son; and when her neighbours and relations heard that the Lord had shown her so great a kindness, they shared her joy. Now on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother spoke up. “No,” she said, “he is to be called John.” They said to her, “But no one in your family has that name”, and made signs to his father to find out what he wanted him called. The father asked for a writing-tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all astonished. At that instant his power of speech returned and he spoke and praised God. All their neighbours were filled with awe and the whole affair was talked about throughout the hill country of Judaea. All those who heard of it treasured it in their hearts. “What will this child turn out to be?” they wondered. And indeed the hand of the Lord was with him.

Meditation
The Gospel reading of today recalls a ceremony well known in our cultures and in the Church: the child-naming ceremony. A name is a life program, it is a way of being and of relate to others. Many wanted to name the newborn after his father, Zachariah, but they were astonished when Zachariah who had been dumb wrote on a tablet: “his name is John”. The meaning of this name is stated in a meditation from Saint Bede the Venerable, Doctor of the Church. It means “the Grace of God (…and) this name announces the economy of the Gospel…” John the Baptist, by his prophetic name will become him of whom today’s first reading speaks: “Look I am going to send my messenger to prepare a way before me”. The Christian names we receive at baptism introduce us to a new way of being. May the Holy Spirit help us to live out our Christian identity today.

Prière d’ouverture
Tu n’as pas supporté, Seigneur, que l’homme soit abandonné à la mort, mais tu as voulu le racheter en lui envoyant ton Fils unique ; accorde, nous t’en prions, à ceux qui s’inclineront devant l’enfant de Bethléem, de communier à la vie d’un tel Rédempteur. Lui qui règne.
1ère lecture : 1 S 1, 24-28; 2, 1a
En ces jours-là, lorsque Samuel eut été sevré, Anne, sa mère, le conduisit à la maison du Seigneur, à Silo ; elle avait pris avec elle un taureau de trois ans, un sac de farine et une outre de vin. On offrit le taureau en sacrifice, et on présenta l’enfant au prêtre Elie. Anne lui dit alors : « Écoute-moi, mon seigneur, je t’en prie ! Aussi vrai que tu es vivant, je suis cette femme qui se tenait ici près de toi en priant le Seigneur. C’est pour obtenir cet enfant que je priais, et le Seigneur me l’a donné en réponse à ma demande. L’arc des forts est brisé, mais le faible se revêt de vigueur. Les plus comblés s’embauchent pour du pain, et les affamés se reposent.
Le Seigneur fait mourir et vivre; il fait descendre à l’abîme et en ramène. Le Seigneur rend pauvre et riche ; il abaisse et il élève.
De la poussière il relève le faible, il retire le pauvre de la cendre pour qu’il siège parmi les princes et reçoive un trône de gloire.

Alléluia. Alléluia. Viens, Roi de l’univers, pierre angulaire de l’Église ! À l’homme que tu as pétri de la terre viens apporter le salut. Alléluia.
Évangile : Lc 1, 46-56
Marie dit alors : « Mon âme exalte le Seigneur, mon esprit exulte en Dieu mon Sauveur. Il s’est penché sur son humble servante ; désormais tous les âges me diront bienheureuse. Le Puissant fit pour moi des merveilles ; Saint est son nom ! Son amour s’étend d’âge en âge sur ceux qui le craignent. Déployant la force de son bras, il disperse les superbes. Il renverse les puissants de leurs trônes, il élève les humbles. Il comble de bien les affamés, renvoie les riches les mains vides. Il relève Israël son serviteur, il se souvient de son amour, de la promesse faite à nos pères, en faveur d’Abraham et de sa race à jamais ». Marie demeura avec Élisabeth environ trois mois, puis elle s’en retourna chez elle.
Prière sur les offrandes
Confiants dans ton amour, Seigneur, nous venons à ton autel avec nos offrandes : puissions-nous, par un effet de ta grâce, être purifiés dans l’eucharistie que nous célébrons. Par Jésus.

Dans cette communion, Seigneur, donne-nous le courage d’aller au-devant de notre Sauveur en faisant ce qui est bon pour obtenir le bonheur sans limite. Par Jésus.
Méditation
« Mon âme exalte le Seigneur, mon esprit exulte en Dieu mon Sauveur », dit Marie. Quel climat intérieur habite notre cœur pour une faveur que Dieu nous fait ? Jésus est le grand Bien que Dieu nous fait, nous qui sommes pauvres et malheureux. C’est le don que le Seigneur manifeste à Marie et à toute l’humanité. Comme don, Jésus nous donne l’occasion de nous tenir à nouveau avec Lui à la face de Dieu le Père. Par son action de grâce, Marie nous invite à exalter le Seigneur pour ses merveilles, ses bienfaits. Lorsque Dieu donne, il est bon que nous sachions nous donner en retour pour Dieu. Pour cela il faut la vertu de l’humilité, nécessaire pour servir Dieu comme Marie. Elle reste une valeur qui respecte la vérité de notre condition de créature. C’est par l’humilité que l’humanité se réalise et se perfectionne. Heureux les humbles de cœur car le royaume des cieux est à eux.

SAINT Chaeromon
O Rex Gentium !
Bishop of Nilopolis, in Egypt. When the persecution was instituted by Emperor Trajanus Decius, St. Chaeromon was quite elderly. He and several companions fled into the Arabian desert and were never seen again. The bishop and his companions are listed as martyrs.

O God, who, seeing the human race fallen into death, willed to redeem it by the coming of your Only Begotten Son, grant, we pray, that those who confess his Incarnation with humble fervour may merit his company as their Redeemer. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: 1 Samuel 1: 24-28
When Hannah had weaned the infant Samuel, she took him up with her together with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and she brought him to the temple of the Lord at Shiloh; and the child was with them. They slaughtered the bull and the child’s mother came to Eli. She said, “If you please, my lord. As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. It is the Lord who gives life and death, he brings men to the grave and back; it is the Lord who gives poverty and riches. He brings men low and raises them on high.

Gospel: Luke 1: 46-56
Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my saviour; because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid. Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name, and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him. He has shown the power of his arm, he has routed the proud of heart. He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away. He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy – according to the promise he made to our ancestors – of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.” Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back home.
Prayer over the Offerings
Trusting in your compassion, O Lord, we come eagerly with our offerings to your sacred altar, that, through the purifying action of your grace, we may be cleansed by the very mysteries we serve. Through Christ our Lord.

Prayer after Communion
May reception of your Sacrament strengthen us, O Lord, so that we may go out to meet our Saviour with worthy deeds when he comes and merit the rewards of the blessed. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
Hannah in today’s first can be likened to Elizabeth the mother of John the Baptist. But worthy of note is the fact that her life reflects many articles in the Magnificat of the Virgin Mary. The power of God is made manifest in the lives his humble servants. It is in this light that we live our spiritual poverty, submitting ourselves to the mercy of God. In so doing, we let God continue his salvific mission in us, the salvation which he promised to our fathers in favour of Abraham and to his descendants forever. May the spiritual poverty of Hannah, she who suffered humiliations but always kept her faith in God, animate our lives today and always.

Priest, Doctor
O Oriens !
He was born in Holland in 1521. He studied at Cologne and joined the Society of Jesus: he was ordained priest in 1546. He worked hard to defend and strengthen the Catholic faith both by writing and by preaching. He wrote many books, of which The Catechism is particularly noteworthy. He died at Fribourg in Switzerland on 21 November 1597.

The Lord and Ruler will be coming soon, and his name will be called Emmanuel, because he will be called God-with-us.

Hear in kindness, O Lord, the prayers of your people, that those who rejoice at the coming of your Only Begotten Son in our flesh may, when at last he comes in glory, gain the reward of eternal life. Gospel: Luke 1:39-45
Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’

Be pleased, O Lord, to accept the offerings of your Church, for in your mercy you have given them to be offered and by your power you transform them into the mystery of our salvation. Through Christ our Lord.

Meditation
Today, the Church invites us to meditate on an aspect of Elizabeth’s life; her openness to the will of God. We are told that during Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greetings, the child in her womb leapt for joy and, filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth cried out to Mary: you are blessed among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb…” In welcoming the grace of God, Elizabeth remained opened to the Holy Spirit, an openness which let her to discover the wonders God had accomplished in the lives of others like Mary. What is our attitude when we discover the grace of God working in our lives and those of others? Do we bless others who have received the grace of God or are we envious of them? Do we become proud and egoistic or humble and open to sharing with others?

SAINT Pierre Canisius,
Prêtre et Docteur de l’Eglise
O Oriens !
Pierre Kanijs, dont le nom fut latinisé en Canisius (1521-1597), naquit à Nimègue. Jésuite, prêtre en 1546, il créa de nombreux collèges et travailla, par sa prédication et ses écrits de controverse, à répandre la foi catholique et à rétablir l’unité dans l’Église. On l’a appelé ‘’le nouveau Boniface’’. Il composa des catéchismes, si adaptés à leur but qu’en Allemagne on désignait un catéchisme par le mot ‘’ Canisius’’.

Voici venir le Seigneur Souverain : il aura pour nom Emmanuel car il sera : « Dieu avec nous ».
Prière d’ouverture
Écoute avec bonté, Seigneur, la prière de ton peuple qui se réjouit de la venue de ton Fils en notre chair ; puissions-nous obtenir le bonheur de la vie éternelle quand il viendra dans sa gloire. Lui qui règne.
1ère lecture: Cantique des Cantiques 2, 8-14
La voix de mon bien-aimé ! C’est lui, il vient… Il bondit sur les montagnes, il court sur les collines, mon bien- aimé, pareil à la gazelle, au faon de la biche. Le voici, c’est lui qui se tient derrière notre mur: il regarde aux fenêtres, guette par le treillage. Il parle, mon bien-aimé, il me dit : Lève- toi, mon amie, ma toute belle, et viens…Vois, l’hiver s’en est allé, les pluies ont cessé, elles se sont enfuies. Sur la terre apparaissent les fleurs, le temps des chansons est venu et la voix de la tourterelle s’entend sur notre terre. Le figuier a formé ses premiers fruits, la vigne fleurie exhale sa bonne odeur. Lève- toi, mon amie, ma toute belle, et viens… Ma colombe, dans les fentes du rocher, dans les retraites escarpées, que je voie ton visage, que j’entende ta voix ! Ta voix est douce et ton visage, charmant.

Rendez grâce au Seigneur sur la cithare, jouez pour lui sur la harpe à dix cordes. Chantez-lui le cantique nouveau, de tout votre art soutenez l’ovation.
Le plan du Seigneur demeure pour toujours, les projets de son cœur subsistent d’âge en âge. Heureux le peuple dont le Seigneur est le Dieu, heureuse la nation qu’il s’est choisie pour domaine !
Nous attendons notre vie du Seigneur : il est pour nous un appui, un bouclier. La joie de notre cœur vient de lui, notre confiance est dans son nom très saint.

En ces jours- là, Marie se mit en route et se rendit avec empressement vers la région montagneuse, dans une ville de Judée. Elle entra dans la maison de Zacharie et salua Élisabeth. Or, quand Élisabeth entendit la salutation de Marie, l’enfant tressaillit en elle. Alors, Élisabeth fut remplie d’Esprit Saint, et s’écria d’une voix forte : « Tu es bénie entre toutes les femmes, et le fruit de tes entrailles est béni. D’où m’est- il donné que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne jusqu’à moi ? Car, lorsque tes paroles de salutation sont parvenues à mes oreilles, l’enfant a tressailli d’allégresse en moi. Heureuse celle qui a cru à l’accomplissement des paroles qui lui furent dites de la part du Seigneur. »

Seigneur, tu as donné ces présents à ton Eglise pour quelle puisse te les offrir : daigne les accueillir favorablement ; qu’ils deviennent, par ta puissance, le sacrement de notre salut. Par Jésus.

Méditation
La visitation de la Vierge Marie à sa cousine Elisabeth est aussi la rencontre du nouveau avec l’ancien, en Jésus Dieu fait toute chose nouvelle. Marie se rendit en hâte vers la maison de Zacharie pour rencontrer sa sœur. Toutes les deux sont dans l’attente. Le temps de l’Avent est le temps de l’attente, attente d’une rencontre entre deux mondes, entre deux générations. Dieu qui se rend présent et se donne, et l’homme qui a la nostalgie du vrai amour et accueille cette présence, cet amour dont l’absence rend tout stérile, mais que la présence inaugure un printemps de vie. En ce sens, le livre de Cantique des cantiques présente Dieu justement comme le « bien-aimé » qui va à la rencontre de sa « bien-aimée ». Oui, quelles distances Dieu a dû franchir, pour venir jusqu’à nous. Pas seulement des « montagnes et des collines », mais la distance infinie de la divinité à l’humanité. Aucun obstacle n’arrête Dieu dans son plan salutaire pour l’homme. Il bondit, il vient. Dieu aime et désire l’humanité. Nous avons, nous aussi le devoir d’aimer ce que Dieu aime : la vie humaine, chef-d’œuvre de son Intelligence et de son Amour.

Gospel: Luke 1:26-38
The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. The Lord is with you.” She was deeply disturbed by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean, but the angel said to her, “Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God’s favour. Listen! You are to conceive and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David; he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have no end.” Mary said to the angel, “But how can this come about, since I am a virgin?” “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” the angel answered, “and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God. Meditation
The Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most emblematic figures of the Advent season. Today’s Gospel nourishes us with information on her personality. But much about her is found in her response to the angel Gabriel: “I am the handmaid of the Lord, let what you have said be done to me”. All of Israel was expecting the Messiah, but what did they think if him? Many in Israel, even Jesus’ disciples thought of the Messiah in their own conception of liberty and salvation, and not in accordance with God’s redemptive plan. Just few of them were expecting the Messiah in the attitude of true children and servants of God amongst whom was Mary. She highlights for us how we should behave while expecting the grace of God. But seeing man’s disobedience today, would it be that the servants of God are now those who order God to become faithful to their own human and egoistic desires?

Tu as voulu, Seigneur, qu’à l’annonce de l’ange la Vierge accueille ton Verbe éternel, qu’elle soit remplie de la lumière de l’Esprit Saint et devienne le temple du Très-Haut ; aide-nous à devenir assez humbles pour faire comme elle ta volonté. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Isaïe 7, 10-14
En ces jours- là, le Seigneur parla ainsi au roi Acaz : « Demande pour toi un signe de la part du Seigneur ton Dieu, au fond du séjour des morts ou sur les sommets, là- haut.» Acaz répondit: « Non, je n’en demanderai pas, je ne mettrai pas le Seigneur à l’épreuve. » Isaïe dit alors : « Écoutez, maison de David ! Au Seigneur, le monde et sa richesse, la terre et tous ses habitants ! C’est lui qui l’a fondée sur les mers et la garde inébranlable sur les flots.
Qui peut gravir la montagne du Seigneur et se tenir dans le lieu saint ? L’homme au cœur pur, aux mains innocentes, qui ne livre pas son âme aux idoles.
Il obtient, du Seigneur, la bénédiction, et de Dieu son Sauveur, la justice. Voici le peuple de ceux qui le cherchent ! Voici Jacob qui recherche ta face !

Évangile : Luc 1, 26-38
Au sixième mois d’Élisabeth, l’ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée, appelée Nazareth, à une jeune fille vierge, accordée en mariage à un homme de la maison de David, appelé Joseph ; et le nom de la jeune fille était Marie. Or voici que, dans sa vieillesse, Élisabeth, ta parente, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils et en est à son sixième mois, alors qu’on l’appelait la femme stérile. Car rien n’est impossible à Dieu. » Marie dit alors : « Voici la servante du Seigneur ; que tout m’advienne selon ta parole. »
Alors l’ange la quitta.

Accepte, Seigneur, nous t’en prions, le seul sacrifice que nous puissions t’offrir, et, par notre communion à ce sacrement, donne-nous les biens que la foi propose à notre attente. Par Jésus.

Garde, seigneur, en ta divine protection ceux que tu nourris de l’eucharistie : qu’ils trouvent dans tes sacrements les sources de la paix véritable. Par Jésus.
Méditation
La vérité de l’Incarnation est un évènement extraordinaire, Dieu qui accepte devenir un homme : Jésus Christ. Jésus vient assumer notre nature, toute la nature humaine excepté le péché. Le Fils du Très haut va s’abaisser et prendre la condition de serviteur et meurt sur la croix. Il le fait dans le but d’élever tous ceux et celles qui l’accueillent. Par l’Incarnation du Verbe de Dieu, Jésus devient homme, l’homme devient Dieu. Et c’est ici qu’on comprend bien ces paroles : « qu’est donc le mort, que tu t’en souviennes, le fils d’Adam, que tu le veuilles visiter ? A peine le fis-tu moindre qu’un dieu ; tu le couronnes de gloire et de beauté pour qu’il domine sur l’œuvre de tes mains » (Ps 8, 4-7). L’Enfant donné à Noël vient instaurer le règne de Dieu. Il est le signe de Dieu dans notre quotidien et déploie son règne dans la vérité et dans l’amour. Tout disciple de Jésus est appelé à accueillir le règne de vérité, de justice et d’amour. Dieu est avec nous, soyons aussi avec Lui.
