sAINT Hyacinthe
Prêtre en Pologne à Cracovie, il entre dans l’Ordre des Dominicains après avoir rencontré saint Dominique à Rome. Canonisé en 1594, on lui doit beaucoup de couvents en Pologne, en Prusse, en Lituanie et en Russie.

1ère lecture : Jos 3, 7-10a.11.13-17
En ces jours-là, le Seigneur dit à Josué: « Aujourd’hui, je vais commencer à te grandir devant tout Israël, pour qu’il sache que je suis avec toi comme j’ai été avec Moïse. Toi, tu donneras cet ordre aux prêtres qui portent l’arche d’Alliance : “Lorsque vous serez arrivés au bord du Jourdain, vous vous arrêterez dans le lit du fleuve.” » Josué dit ensuite aux fils d’Israël : « Approchez, écoutez les paroles du Seigneur votre Dieu. À ceci, vous reconnaîtrez que le Dieu vivant est au milieu de vous, et qu’il vous mettra en possession du pays des Cananéens, voici que l’arche de l’Alliance du Seigneur de toute la terre va passer le Jourdain devant vous. Aussitôt que les prêtres qui portent l’arche du Seigneur de toute la terre auront posé la plante de leurs pieds dans les eaux du Jourdain, les eaux qui sont en amont seront coupées, et elles s’arrêteront en formant une seule masse.» Quand le peuple leva le camp pour passer le Jourdain, les prêtres portaient l’arche d’Alliance en tête du peuple. Or, le Jourdain coule à pleins bords pendant toute la saison des moissons. Dès que les prêtres qui portaient l’arche furent arrivés au Jourdain, et que leurs pieds touchèrent l’eau, les eaux s’arrêtèrent en amont et se dressèrent comme une seule masse sur une grande distance, à partir d’Adame, ville voisine de Sartane ; et en aval, les eaux achevèrent de s’écouler vers la mer de la Araba, la mer Morte. Le peuple traversa à la hauteur de Jéricho. Les prêtres qui portaient l’arche de l’Alliance du Seigneur restèrent immobiles, sur la terre sèche, au milieu du Jourdain. Alors tout Israël traversa à pied sec, jusqu’à ce que toute la nation eût fini de passer le Jourdain.

Quand Israël sortit d’Égypte, et Jacob, de chez un peuple étranger, Juda fut pour Dieu un sanctuaire, Israël devint son domaine.

Évangile : Mt 18, 21 – 19, 1
En ce temps-là, Pierre s’approcha de Jésus pour lui demander : « Seigneur, lorsque mon frère commettra des fautes contre moi, combien de fois dois-je lui pardonner ? Jusqu’à sept fois ? » Jésus lui répondit : « Je ne te dis pas jusqu’à sept fois, mais jusqu’à 70 fois sept fois. Ainsi, le royaume des Cieux est comparable à un roi qui voulut régler ses comptes avec ses serviteurs. Il commençait, quand on lui amena quelqu’un qui lui devait dix mille talents (c’est-à-dire soixante millions de pièces d’argent). Comme cet homme n’avait pas de quoi rembourser, le maître ordonna de le vendre, avec sa femme, ses enfants et tous ses biens, en remboursement de sa dette. Alors, tombant à ses pieds, le serviteur demeurait prosterné et disait: “Prends patience envers moi, et je te rembourserai tout.” Saisi de compassion, le maître de ce serviteur le laissa partir et lui remit sa dette. Mais, en sortant, ce serviteur trouva un de ses compagnons qui lui devait cent pièces d’argent. Il se jeta sur lui pour l’étrangler, en disant : “Rembourse ta dette !” Alors, tombant à ses pieds, son compagnon le suppliait : “Prends patience envers moi, et je te rembourserai.” Mais l’autre refusa et le fit jeter en prison jusqu’à ce qu’il ait remboursé ce qu’il devait. Ses compagnons, voyant cela, furent profondément attristés et allèrent raconter à leur maître tout ce qui s’était passé. Alors celui-ci le fit appeler et lui dit : “Serviteur mauvais! je t’avais remis toute cette dette parce que tu m’avais supplié. Ne devais-tu pas, à ton tour, avoir pitié de ton compagnon, comme moi-même j’avais eu pitié de toi ?” Dans sa colère, son maître le livra aux bourreaux jusqu’à ce qu’il eût remboursé tout ce qu’il devait. C’est ainsi que mon Père du ciel vous traitera, si chacun de vous ne pardonne pas à son frère du fond du cœur. » Lorsque Jésus eut terminé ce discours, il s’éloigna de la Galilée et se rendit dans le territoire de la Judée, au-delà du Jourdain.
Prière sur les offrandes
Seigneur, tu as donné ces présents à ton Église pour qu’elle puisse te les offrir. Daigne les accueillir favorablement, qu’ils deviennent, par ta puissance, le sacrement de notre salut. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Le pardon est toujours un processus compliqué qui demande du temps et de la réflexion. Pourtant, c’est une obligation que Jésus considère essentielle pour ses disciples, et il ne manque jamais une occasion de souligner son importance. Ici, il dit à Pierre, et à nous aussi, qu’il n’y a pas de limite au nombre de fois que nous devons pardonner. Il nous rappelle que nous ne pouvons recevoir le pardon que si nous sommes capables de le donner nous-mêmes aux autres. Le cœur qui raisonne uniquement en termes de bien et de mal et sourd aux appels de la miséricorde est un cœur qui ne comprend pas le pardon lorsqu’il est offert. Puissions-nous disposer nos cœurs à recevoir et à accorder le pardon !

Saint Clare of Montefalco
Saint Clare of Montefalco (1268 – 1308), also called Saint Clare of the Cross, was an Augustinian nun and abbess. Before becoming a nun, St. Clare was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis (Secular).She was canonized by Pope Leo XIII on December 8, 1881.

As for you, give this order to the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant: ‘When you have reached the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you are to stand still in the Jordan itself’.” Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come closer and hear the words of the Lord your God.” Joshua said, “By this you shall know that a living God is with you and without a doubt will expel the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite and the Jebusite. As soon as the priests with the ark of the Lord, the Lord of the whole earth, have set their feet in the waters of the Jordan, the upper waters of the Jordan flowing down will be stopped in their course and stand still in one mass.” Accordingly, when the people struck camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant in front of the people. As soon as the bearers of the ark reached the Jordan and the feet of the priests who carried it touched the waters (the Jordan overflows the whole length of its banks throughout the harvest season) the upper waters stood still and made one heap over a wide space – from Adam to the fortress of Zarethan – while those flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah, that is, the Salt Sea, stopped running altogether. The people crossed opposite Jericho. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood still on dry ground in mid-Jordan, and all Israel continued to cross dry-shod till the whole nation had finished its crossing of the river.

Meditation
Forgiveness is always a complicated process that requires time and reflection. Yet it is an obligation that Jesus considers essential for his disciples, and he never misses an opportunity to stress its importance. Here, he tells Peter, and us, that there is no limit to the number of times we must forgive. He reminds us that we can only receive forgiveness if we are able to give it to others. The heart that thinks only in terms of right and wrong, deaf to the calls of mercy, is a heart that does not understand forgiveness when it is offered. May we be able to dispose our hearts both to give and to receive forgiveness.

SAINT Stephen of Hungary
He was the son of a pagan father and a Christian mother. He worked hard for the conversion of his country to Christianity, setting up both episcopal sees and monasteries. He was crowned the first King of Hungary in 1001.

Meditation
Correcting others when they are wrong is never easy, and in these days of relativism and individualism, we tend to see this practice as obsolete or counterproductive. Even in the days when the gospels were written, it was considered a complex operation that had to be carried out with care and love in order to achieve its objectives. Yet we need to remember that we are responsible for each other. If we are called to correct others, let us never forget to preserve their dignity.

SAINT Etienne de Hongrie
Étienne (vers 970-1038) fut le premier roi chrétien de Hongrie. Il fit appel aux moines de Cluny pour évangéliser son royaume. En l’an 1000, il reçut du pape Sylvestre II ‘’la sainte couronne’’, qui devint le symbole de l’unité magyare. Grâce ses dons de chef, il donna à son pays une solide organisation civile et religieuse.

En ces jours-là, Moïse monta des steppes de Moab au mont Nébo, sur un sommet qui est en face de Jéricho. Le Seigneur lui fit voir tout le pays : Galaad jusqu’à Dane, tout Nephtali, le pays d’Éphraïm et de Manassé, tout le pays de Juda jusqu’à la Méditerranée, le Néguev, la région du Jourdain, la vallée de Jéricho ville des Palmiers, jusqu’à Soar. Le Seigneur lui dit: « Ce pays que tu vois, j’ai juré à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob de le donner à leur descendance. Je te le fais voir, mais tu n’y entreras pas. » Moïse, le serviteur du Seigneur, mourut là, au pays de Moab, selon la parole du Seigneur. On l’enterra dans la vallée qui est en face de Beth-Péor, au pays de Moab. Mais aujourd’hui encore, personne ne sait où se trouve son tombeau. Moïse avait cent vingt ans quand il mourut; sa vue n’avait pas baissé, sa vitalité n’avait pas diminué. Les fils d’Israël pleurèrent Moïse dans les steppes de Moab, pendant trente jours. C’est alors que s’achevèrent les jours du deuil de Moïse. Josué, fils de Noun, était rempli de l’esprit de sagesse, parce que Moïse lui avait imposé les mains. Les fils d’Israël lui obéirent, ils firent ce que le Seigneur avait prescrit à Moïse. Il ne s’est plus levé en Israël un prophète comme Moïse, lui que le Seigneur rencontrait face à face. Que de signes et de prodiges le Seigneur l’avait envoyé accomplir en Égypte, devant Pharaon, tous ses serviteurs et tout son pays! Avec quelle main puissante, quel pouvoir redoutable, Moïse avait agi aux yeux de tout Israël !

S’il refuse de les écouter, dis-le à l’assemblée de l’Église ; s’il refuse encore d’écouter l’Église, considère-le comme un païen et un publicain. Amen, je vous le dis: tout ce que vous aurez lié sur la terre sera lié dans le ciel, et tout ce que vous aurez délié sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel. Méditation
Corriger les autres lorsqu’ils se trompent n’est jamais facile et, en ces temps de relativisme et d’individualisme, nous avons tendance à considérer cette pratique comme obsolète, voire contre-productive. Même à l’époque où les évangiles ont été écrits, cette entreprise était considérée comme une opération complexe qui devait être menée avec soin et amour pour atteindre ses objectifs. Pourtant, il est nécessaire de nous rappeler que nous sommes responsables les uns des autres. Si nous sommes appelés à corriger les autres n’oublions jamais de préserver leur dignité.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Solemnity
The commemoration of the death of the Blessed Virgin is known as the Assumption because of the tradition that her body did not decay but that she was raised up, body and soul, into heaven.

First reading: Apocalypse 11:19, 12:1-6, 10
The sanctuary of God in heaven opened and the ark of the covenant could be seen inside it. Then came flashes of lightning, peals of thunder and an earthquake, and violent hail. Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown. She was pregnant, and in labour, crying aloud in the pangs of childbirth. Then a second sign appeared in the sky, a huge red dragon which had seven heads and ten horns, and each of the seven heads crowned with a coronet. Its tail dragged a third of the stars from the sky and dropped them to the earth, and the dragon stopped in front of the woman as she was having the child, so that he could eat it as soon as it was born from its mother. The woman brought a male child into the world, the son who was to rule all the nations with an iron sceptre, and the child was taken straight up to God and to his throne, while the woman escaped into the desert, where God had made a place of safety ready, for her to be looked after in the twelve hundred and sixty days. Then I heard a voice shout from heaven, “Victory and power and empire for ever have been won by our God, and all authority for his Christ, now that the persecutor, who accused our brothers day and night before our God, has been brought down.”

Second reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26
Christ has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep. Death came through one man and in the same way the resurrection of the dead has come through one man. Just as all men die in Adam, so all men will be brought to life in Christ; but all of them in their proper order: Christ as the first-fruits and then, after the coming of Christ, those who belong to him. After that will come the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, having done away with every sovereignty, authority and power. Gospel: Luke 1:39-56
Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, “Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.” And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my saviour; because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid. Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name, and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him. He has shown the power of his arm, he has routed the proud of heart. He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away. He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy – according to the promise he made to our ancestors – of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.” Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back home.

Meditation
Today, on the Feast of the Assumption, we join Mary in thanking God for the many wonders he has done in her and for us. We sing the Magnificat with her and share her joy as she looks on her life as the Lord’s humble servant. So let us also examine our lives and the beauty of God’s faithful presence; let us also remember that we will share Mary’s destiny if and only if, like Mary, we submit ourselves with docility to God’s will.

Assomption de la Vierge Marie
Solennite
La Vierge qui, dès sa conception, avait été comblée de grâce par le Père, communie maintenant en plénitude à la gloire de son Fils. L’Église commémore la glorification de Marie à l’heure où sa vie terrestre s’est achevée. Cette glorification est le fruit de la fidélité parfaite de la Vierge et de sa communion plénière au sacrifice de son Fils.

1ère lecture : Ap 11, 19a ; 12, 1-6a.10ab
Le sanctuaire de Dieu, qui est dans le ciel, s’ouvrit, et l’arche de son Alliance apparut dans le Sanctuaire. Un grand signe apparut dans le ciel : une Femme, ayant le soleil pour manteau, la lune sous les pieds, et sur la tête une couronne de douze étoiles. Elle est enceinte, elle crie, dans les douleurs et la torture d’un enfantement. Un autre signe apparut dans le ciel : un grand dragon, rouge feu, avec sept têtes et dix cornes, et, sur chacune des sept têtes, un diadème. Sa queue, entraînant le tiers des étoiles du ciel, les précipita sur la terre. Le Dragon vint se poster devant la femme qui allait enfanter, afin de dévorer l’enfant dès sa naissance. Or, elle mit au monde un fils, un enfant mâle, celui qui sera le berger de toutes les nations, les conduisant avec un sceptre de fer. L’enfant fut enlevé jusqu’auprès de Dieu et de son Trône, et la Femme s’enfuit au désert, où Dieu lui a préparé une place. Alors j’entendis dans le ciel une voix forte, qui proclamait : « Maintenant voici le salut, la puissance et le règne de notre Dieu, voici le pouvoir de son Christ ! »

R/ Debout, à la droite du Seigneur, se tient la reine, toute parée d’or.
Écoute, ma fille, regarde et tends l’oreille ; oublie ton peuple et la maison de ton père : le roi sera séduit par ta beauté.
Il est ton Seigneur : prosterne-toi devant lui. Alors, les plus riches du peuple, chargés de présents, quêteront ton sourire.

2ème lecture : 1 Co 15, 20-27a
Frères, le Christ est ressuscité d’entre les morts, lui, premier ressuscité parmi ceux qui se sont endormis. Car, la mort étant venue par un homme, c’est par un homme aussi que vient la résurrection des morts. En effet, de même que tous les hommes meurent en Adam, de même c’est dans le Christ que tous recevront la vie, mais chacun à son rang : en premier, le Christ, et ensuite, lors du retour du Christ, ceux qui lui appartiennent. Alors, tout sera achevé, quand le Christ remettra le pouvoir royal à Dieu son Père, après avoir anéanti, parmi les êtres célestes, toute Principauté, toute Souveraineté et Puissance. Car c’est lui qui doit régner jusqu’au jour où Dieu aura mis sous ses pieds tous ses ennemis. Et le dernier ennemi qui sera anéanti, c’est la mort, car il a tout mis sous ses pieds.

Alléluia. Alléluia. Aujourd’hui s’est ouverte la porte du paradis : Marie est entrée dans la gloire de Dieu ; exultez dans le ciel, tous les anges ! Alléluia.
Évangile: Lc 1, 39-56
En ces jours-là, Marie se mit en route et se rendit avec empressement vers la région montagneuse, dans une ville de Judée. Elle entra dans la maison de Zacharie et salua Élisabeth. Or, quand Élisabeth entendit la salutation de Marie, l’enfant tressaillit en elle. Alors, Élisabeth fut remplie d’Esprit Saint, et s’écria d’une voix forte : « Tu es bénie entre toutes les femmes, et le fruit de tes entrailles est béni. D’où m’est-il donné que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne jusqu’à moi ? Car, lorsque tes paroles de salutation sont parvenues à mes oreilles, l’enfant a tressailli d’allégresse en moi. Heureuse celle qui a cru à l’accomplissement des paroles qui lui furent dites de la part du Seigneur. » Marie dit alors : « Mon âme exalte le Seigneur, exulte mon esprit en Dieu, mon Sauveur ! Il s’est penché sur son humble servante ; désormais tous les âges me diront bienheureuse. Le Puissant fit pour moi des merveilles; Saint est son nom ! Sa miséricorde s’étend d’âge en âge sur ceux qui le craignent. Déployant la force de son bras, il disperse les superbes. Il renverse les puissants de leurs trônes, il élève les humbles. Il comble de biens les affamés, renvoie les riches les mains vides. Il relève Israël son serviteur, il se souvient de son amour, de la promesse faite à nos pères, en faveur d’Abraham et sa descendance à jamais. » Marie resta avec Élisabeth environ trois mois, puis elle s’en retourna chez elle.

Que s’élève jusqu’à toi, Seigneur, notre fervent sacrifice. Et tandis qu’intercède pour nous la Très Sainte Vierge Marie, emportée au ciel, que nos cœurs, brûlants de charité, aspirent toujours à monter vers toi. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Aujourd’hui, à l’occasion de la fête de l’Assomption, nous nous joignions à Marie pour remercier Dieu des nombreuses merveilles qu’il a faites en elle et pour nous. Nous chantons le Magnificat avec elle et partageons sa joie alors qu’elle fait un retour sur sa vie comme humble servante du Seigneur. Examinons donc aussi nos vies et la beauté en elles de la présence fidèle de Dieu ; rappelons aussi que nous ne partagerons le destin de Marie que si et seulement si, comme Elle, nous nous soumettons avec docilité à la volonté de Dieu.

SAINT Maximilian Kolbe
He was born on 8 January 1894 in occupied Poland: he joined the Franciscans in Lwów in 1910. In 1941 he was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. A prisoner escaped, and in reprisal the authorities were choosing ten people to die by starvation. One of the men had a family, and Maximilian Kolbe offered to take his place. He died in the man’s place.

The disciples could not cope with the second announcement of Jesus” passion and death. Suffering also disturbs us. We can only fully understand this announcement if we stay close to Jesus, otherwise we will be lost. Jesus gives meaning to suffering; meaning that we cannot grasp except through faith. There can be

SAINT MAXIMILIEN KOLBE
Arrêté en février 1941, il est déporté au camp d’Auschwitz au mois de mai. A la suite d’une évasion, dix prisonniers sont condamnés à mourir de faim, enfermés dans un bunker. Il ya parmi eux un père de famille. Maximilien Kolbe demande à mourir à sa place. Il sera le dernier à mourir dans le bunker après avoir aidé ses compagnons dans la patience, la paix et le réconfort

Méditation
Les disciples étaient incapables de faire face à la deuxième annonce de la passion et de la mort de Jésus. Souffrir nous perturbe aussi. Nous ne pouvons comprendre pleinement, cette annonce que si nous restons près de Jésus, sinon nous serons perdus. Jésus donne un sens à la souffrance que nous ne pouvons saisir que dans la foi. Il ne peut avoir de dimanche de Pâques que si et seulement si il existe le vendredi saint.

Psalm 84(85):9-14
R/ Let us see, O Lord, your mercy, and give us your saving help.
I will hear what the Lord God has to say, a voice that speaks of peace. His help is near for those who fear him and his glory will dwell in our land.
Mercy and faithfulness have met; justice and peace have embraced. Faithfulness shall spring from the earth and justice look down from heaven.
The Lord will make us prosper and our earth shall yield its fruit. Justice shall march before him and peace shall follow his steps.
Second reading: Romans 9:1-5
What I want to say now is no pretence; I say it in union with Christ – it is the truth – my conscience in union with the Holy Spirit assures me of it too. What I want to say is this: my sorrow is so great, my mental anguish so endless, I would willingly be condemned and be cut off from Christ if it could help my brothers of Israel, my own flesh and blood. They were adopted as sons, they were given the glory and the covenants; the Law and the ritual were drawn up for them, and the promises were made to them. They are descended from the patriarchs and from their flesh and blood came Christ who is above all, God for ever blessed! Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33
Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. “It is a ghost”, they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, “Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.” It was Peter who answered. “Lord,” he said, “if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.” “Come”, said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. “Lord! Save me!” he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. “Man of little faith,” he said. “Why did you doubt?” And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”

Meditation
This is a startling revelation of how God cares for us in difficult situations. Jesus spends a lot of time alone in prayer, and he surely mentions you by name. He knows where you are, what is happening to you, and when you need help, so he comes to you and says, “Trust me, don’t be afraid.” Can you hear him, despite the gusts of wind? Or are you obsessed by the waves that are breaking over your boat? In the coming trials, it is important that we remember how Jesus reached out and caught Peter as he was about to drown, how he got into their boat, and how he overcame the wind. Jesus does the same thing for us, but in a less dramatic way.

Béatifié le 24 avril 1994 pendant le premier Synode des évêques pour l’Afrique, Isidore Bakanja était catéchumène chez les pères Trappistes, à Mbandaka, au Zaïre, actuel Congo démocratique. Répugnant sa dévotion profonde au Christ le patron dont il était le domestique le fit battre à mort. Âgé de 29 ans, il rendit l’âme le 12 août 1909.

Le Seigneur dit : « Sors et tiens-toi sur la montagne devant le Seigneur, car il va passer.» À l’approche du Seigneur, il y eut un ouragan, si fort et si violent qu’il fendait les montagnes et brisait les rochers, mais le Seigneur n’était pas dans l’ouragan ; et après l’ouragan, il y eut un tremblement de terre, mais le Seigneur n’était pas dans le tremblement de terre ; et après ce tremblement de terre, un feu, mais le Seigneur n’était pas dans ce feu; et après ce feu, le murmure d’une brise légère. Aussitôt qu’il l’entendit, Élie se couvrit le visage avec son manteau, il sortit et se tint à l’entrée de la caverne.

R/ Fais-nous voir, Seigneur, ton amour, et donne-nous ton salut.
J’écoute : Que dira le Seigneur Dieu ? Ce qu’il dit, c’est la paix pour son peuple et ses fidèles. Son salut est proche de ceux qui le craignent, et la gloire habitera notre terre.
Amour et vérité se rencontrent, justice et paix s’embrassent ; la vérité germera de la terre et du ciel se penchera la justice.
Le Seigneur donnera ses bienfaits, et notre terre donnera son fruit. La justice marchera devant lui, et ses pas traceront le chemin.
2èrme lecture : Rm 9, 1-5
Frères, c’est la vérité que je dis dans le Christ, je ne mens pas, ma conscience m’en rend témoignage dans l’Esprit Saint : j’ai dans le cœur une grande tristesse, une douleur incessante. Moi-même, pour les Juifs, mes frères de race, je souhaiterais être anathème, séparé du Christ : ils sont en effet Israélites, ils ont l’adoption, la gloire, les alliances, la législation, le culte, les promesses de Dieu ; ils ont les patriarches, et c’est de leur race que le Christ est né, lui qui est au-dessus de tout, Dieu béni pour les siècles. Amen.

Évangile : Mt 14, 22-33
Aussitôt après avoir nourri la foule dans le désert, Jésus obligea les disciples à monter dans la barque et à le précéder sur l’autre rive, pendant qu’il renverrait les foules. Quand il les eut renvoyées, il gravit la montagne, à l’écart, pour prier. Le soir venu, il était là, seul. La barque était déjà à une bonne distance de la terre, elle était battue par les vagues, car le vent était contraire. Vers la fin de la nuit, Jésus vint vers eux en marchant sur la mer. En le voyant marcher sur la mer, les disciples furent bouleversés. Ils dirent : « C’est un fantôme. » Pris de peur, ils se mirent à crier. Mais aussitôt Jésus leur parla : « Confiance ! c’est moi ; n’ayez plus peur ! » Pierre prit alors la parole : « Seigneur, si c’est bien toi, ordonne-moi de venir vers toi sur les eaux. » Jésus lui dit : « Viens ! » Pierre descendit de la barque et marcha sur les eaux pour aller vers Jésus. Mais, voyant la force du vent, il eut peur et, comme il commençait à enfoncer, il cria : « Seigneur, sauve-moi ! » Aussitôt, Jésus étendit la main, le saisit et lui dit : « Homme de peu de foi, pourquoi as-tu douté ? » Et quand ils furent montés dans la barque, le vent tomba. Alors ceux qui étaient dans la barque se prosternèrent devant lui, et ils lui dirent : « Vraiment, tu es le Fils de Dieu ! »

Seigneur, tu as donné ces présents à ton Église pour qu’elle puisse te les offrir ; Daigne les accueillir favorablement : qu’ils deviennent, par ta puissance, le sacrement de notre salut. Par Jésus.

Que cette communion à ton sacrement, Seigneur, soit notre délivrance et nous enracine dans ta vérité. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Voilà une révélation saisissante de la manière dont Dieu prend soin de nous dans les situations difficiles. Jésus passe beaucoup de temps à prier seul. Cependant il vous connaît par votre nom, Il sait où vous êtes, ce qui vous arrive et les moments où vous avez besoin d’aide : alors, il s’approche de vous et il vous dit : « Confiance ! c’est moi ; n’ayez plus peur ! ». L’entendez-vous, malgré les bourrasques du vent ? Ou bien, êtes-vous obsédés par les vagues qui déferlent sur votre barque ? Dans les épreuves à venir, il est important que nous nous souvenons comment Jésus tendit la main et rattrapa Pierre qui allait se noyer, comment il est monté dans leur barque, et comment il a eu raison du vent. Jésus fait la même chose pour nous, mais de manière moins spectaculaire.
