Prière d’ouverture
Dieu qui veux habiter les cœurs droits et sincères, donne-nous de vivre selon ta grâce, alors tu pourras venir en nous pour y faire ta demeure. Par Jésus Christ.
Première lecture : Si 15, 15-20
Si tu le veux, tu peux observer les commandements, il dépend de ton choix de rester fidèle. Le Seigneur a mis devant toi l’eau et le feu : étends la main vers ce que tu préfères. La vie et la mort sont proposées aux hommes, l’une ou l’autre leur est donnée selon leur choix. Car la sagesse du Seigneur est grande, fort est son pouvoir, et il voit tout. Ses regards sont tournés vers ceux qui le craignent, il connaît toutes les actions des hommes. Il n’a commandé à personne d’être impie, il n’a donné à personne la permission de pécher.
Psaume : 118 (119), 1-2, 4-5, 17-18, 33-34
R/ Heureux ceux qui marchent suivant la loi du Seigneur ! (cf. Ps 118, 1)
- Heureux les hommes intègres dans leurs voies qui marchent suivant la loi du Seigneur ! Heureux ceux qui gardent ses exigences, ils le cherchent de tout cœur !
- Toi, tu promulgues des préceptes à observer entièrement. Puissent mes voies s’affermir à observer tes commandements !
- Sois bon pour ton serviteur, et je vivrai, j’observerai ta parole. Ouvre mes yeux, que je contemple les merveilles de ta loi. Enseigne-moi, Seigneur, le chemin de tes ordres ; à les garder, j’aurai ma récompense. Montre-moi comment garder ta loi, que je l’observe de tout cœur.
Deuxième lecture : 1 Co 2, 6-10
Lecture de la première lettre de saint Paul apôtre aux Corinthiens
Frères, c’est bien de sagesse que nous parlons devant ceux qui sont adultes dans la foi, mais ce n’est pas la sagesse de ce monde, la sagesse de ceux qui dirigent ce monde et qui vont à leur destruction. Au contraire, ce dont nous parlons, c’est de la sagesse du mystère de Dieu, sagesse tenue cachée, établie par lui dès avant les siècles, pour nous donner la gloire. Aucun de ceux qui dirigent ce monde ne l’a connue, car, s’ils l’avaient connue, ils n’auraient jamais crucifié le Seigneur de gloire. Mais ce que nous proclamons, c’est, comme dit l’Écriture : ce que l’œil n’a pas vu, ce que l’oreille n’a pas entendu, ce qui n’est pas venu à l’esprit de l’homme, ce que Dieu a préparé pour ceux dont il est aimé. Et c’est à nous que Dieu, par l’Esprit, en a fait la révélation. Car l’Esprit scrute le fond de toutes choses, même les profondeurs de Dieu.

Alléluia. Alléluia. Tu es béni, Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, tu as révélé aux tout-petits les mystères du Royaume ! Alléluia. (cf. Mt 11, 25)

En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Je vous le dis: Si votre justice ne surpasse pas celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n’entrerez pas dans le royaume des Cieux. Vous avez appris qu’il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne commettras pas de meurtre, et si quelqu’un commet un meurtre, il devra passer en jugement. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis : Tout homme qui se met en colère contre son frère devra passer en jugement. Vous avez appris qu’il a été dit : Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis : Tout homme qui regarde une femme avec convoitise a déjà commis l’adultère avec elle dans son cœur. Vous avez encore appris qu’il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne manqueras pas à tes serments, mais tu t’acquitteras de tes serments envers le Seigneur. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout. Que votre parole soit ‘oui’, si c’est ‘oui’, ‘non’, si c’est ‘non’. Ce qui est en plus vient du Mauvais. – Acclamons la Parole de Dieu.
Prière sur les offrandes
Seigneur notre Dieu, tu as voulu choisir dans ta création le pain et le vin qui refont chaque jour nos forces: Fais qu’ils deviennent aussi pour nous le sacrement de la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.
Antienne de communion : Ps 106, 8-9
Proclamons l’amour du Seigneur, ses merveilles pour les hommes: Il a rassasié ceux qui avaient faim, et désaltéré ceux qui avaient soif.
Prière après la communion
Tu as voulu, Seigneur, que nous partagions un même pain et que nous buvions à la même coupe: Accorde-nous de vivre tellement unis dans le Christ que nous portions du fruit pour le salut du monde. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Chers fidèles du Christ, la suite de notre Seigneur est une question de choix et non d’obligation. Le Christ se propose à chaque homme afin qu’il le suive s’il le veut. Pour cette raison, il n’a pas besoin que le Chrétien fasse du prosélytisme. En tant que source de tout bien, chacun de ceux qui le désire doit pouvoir le découvrir à travers la sagesse qu’il donne pour ainsi parvenir librement à l’expression d’une foi vécue et assumée. Comme tel, l’on sera porté à pratiquer le bien sans se sentir obliger.

First reading: Sirach 15:15-20

Meditation
“Blessed are they who follow the Law of the Lord.” Psalm 118(119) underlines the importance of loving the commandments of God and keeping them. Sirach, in the First Reading, points out an important element in our understanding of the Law of God; it has to be obeyed out of choice rather than a sense of obligation. God has given us the choice between good and evil; he wants us to choose to obey him and not follow him because we feel forced to do so. It is only when we follow God out of conviction that our righteousness can surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, as Jesus demands. The scribes and Pharisees saw the Law of God as a set of rules that were imposed on people; Jesus invites us to see God’s commandments rather as instruments meant to purify our hearts and make us love another. For instance, it is not enough to abstain from killing; I have to keep my heart off anger and envy so that I don’t hate my neighbour. When we understand the spirit of God’s Law, we learn to obey it out of conviction and not in order to conform to social or religious norms.

SAINT CYRILLE, MOINE, SAINT METHODE, EVEQUE

Natifs de Thessalonique, Méthode, un ancien fonctionnaire impérial, et son jeune frère Constantin, le futur Cyrille, s’étaient faits moines avant d’être envoyés par Byzance auprès des peuples slaves. Pour ceux-ci, ils traduisirent en slavon la Bible et les livres liturgiques, et inventèrent à cet effet l’alphabet dit “cyrillique”, encore en usage aujourd’hui. Ils se heurtèrent à l’opposition de missionnaires de rite latin qui les dénoncèrent au pape à cause de leur emploi de la langue vivante.

Fêtons les amis de Dieu, saint Cyrille et saint Méthode : la gloire des deux frères fut de proclamer la vérité reçue du Seigneur.
Prière d’ouverture
Dieu qui as conduit les peuples slaves à la lumière, grâce aux deux frères saints Cyrille et Méthode, ouvre nos cœurs à l’intelligence de ta Parole : fais de nous un peuple de croyants uni dans la vraie foi et dans un témoignage authentique. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : 1 R 12, 26-32 ; 13, 33-34
En ces jours-là, devenu roi des dix tribus d’Israël, Jéroboam se dit: « Maintenant, le royaume risque fort de se rallier de nouveau à la maison de David. Si le peuple continue de monter à Jérusalem pour offrir des sacrifices dans la maison du Seigneur, le cœur de ce peuple reviendra vers son souverain, Roboam, roi de Juda, et l’on me tuera. » Après avoir tenu conseil, Jéroboam fit fabriquer deux veaux en or, et il déclara au peuple: « Voilà trop longtemps que vous montez à Jérusalem! Israël, voici tes dieux, qui t’ont fait monter du pays d’Égypte.» Il plaça l’un des deux veaux à Béthel, l’autre à Dane, et ce fut un grand péché. Le peuple conduisit en procession celui qui allait à Dane. Jéroboam y établit un temple à la manière des lieux sacrés. Il institua des prêtres pris n’importe où, et qui n’étaient pas des descendants de Lévi. Jéroboam célébra la fête le quinzième jour du huitième mois, fête pareille à celle que l’on célébrait en Juda, et il monta à l’autel. Il fit de même à Béthel en offrant des sacrifices aux veaux qu’il avait fabriqués; il établit à Béthel les prêtres des lieux sacrés qu’il avait institués. Jéroboam persévéra dans sa mauvaise conduite; il continua d’instituer n’importe qui comme prêtres des lieux sacrés: il donnait l’investiture à tous ceux qui le désiraient, pour en faire des prêtres des lieux sacrés. Tout cela fit tomber dans le péché la maison de Jéroboam, entraîna sa ruine et provoqua sa disparition de la surface de la terre.
Psaume : 105 (106), 6-7ab, 19-20, 21-22
R/ Souviens-toi de nous, Seigneur, dans ta bienveillance pour ton peuple.
- Avec nos pères, nous avons péché, nous avons failli et renié. En Égypte, nos pères ont méconnu tes miracles, oublié l’abondance de tes grâces.
- À l’Horeb ils fabriquent un veau, ils adorent un objet en métal: ils échangeaient ce qui était leur gloire pour l’image d’un taureau, d’un ruminant.
- Ils oublient le Dieu qui les sauve, qui a fait des prodiges en Égypte, des miracles au pays de Cham, des actions terrifiantes sur la mer Rouge.
Acclamation
Alléluia. Alléluia. L’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu. Alléluia. (Mt 4, 4b)

En ces jours-là, comme il y avait de nouveau une grande foule, et que les gens n’avaient rien à manger, Jésus appelle à lui ses disciples et leur dit: « J’ai de la compassion pour cette foule, car depuis trois jours déjà ils restent auprès de moi, et n’ont rien à manger. Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils vont défaillir en chemin, et certains d’entre eux sont venus de loin. » Ses disciples lui répondirent : « Où donc pourra-t-on trouver du pain pour les rassasier ici, dans le désert ? » Il leur demanda: « Combien de pains avez-vous ? » Ils lui dirent: « Sept. » Alors il ordonna à la foule de s’asseoir par terre. Puis, prenant les sept pains et rendant grâce, il les rompit, et il les donnait à ses disciples pour que ceux-ci les distribuent ; et ils les distribuèrent à la foule. Ils avaient aussi quelques petits poissons, que Jésus bénit et fit aussi distribuer. Les gens mangèrent et furent rassasiés. On ramassa les morceaux qui restaient : cela faisait sept corbeilles. Or, ils étaient environ quatre mille. Puis Jésus les renvoya. Aussitôt, montant dans la barque avec ses disciples, il alla dans la région de Dalmanoutha.

Méditation
L’idolatrie ne consiste pas seulement à se prosterner devant les statuts ou des divinités imaginaires tel que le démontre la première lecture. Nous sommes idolâtre chaque fois que nous faisons passer une passion avant Dieu (Football, série télévisé…). Il en est de même lorsque nous nous replions sur nos difficultés. Le Christ en ce jour, à travers le miracle de la multiplication des pains voudrait nous faire comprendre que rien ne lui est impossible.

They are known as the “Apostles of the Slavs” for their efforts in spreading Christianity throughout Eastern Europe. Their most significant contribution was the creation of the Glagolitic alphabet, which became the foundation for Old Church Slavonic and later the Cyrillic alphabet.
Entrance Antiphon
These are holy men who became friends of God, glorious heralds of divine truth.
Collect
O God, who enlightened the Slavic peoples through the brothers Saints Cyril and Methodius, grant that our hearts may grasp the words of your teaching, and perfect us as a people of one accord in true faith and right confession. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
First reading: 1 Kings 12:26-32; 13:33-34
Jeroboam thought to himself: “The kingdom will return to David’s house. If now this people go up to offer sacrifices in the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, the hearts of this people will return to their master, Rehoboam, king of Judah, and they will kill me.” After taking counsel, the king made two calves of gold and said to the people: “You have been going up to Jerusalem long enough. Here is your God, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” And he put one in Bethel, the other in Dan. This led to sin, because the people frequented those calves in Bethel and in Dan. He also built temples on the high places and made priests from among the people who were not Levites. Jeroboam established a feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month to duplicate in Bethel the pilgrimage feast of Judah, with sacrifices to the calves he had made; and he stationed in Bethel priests of the high places he had built. Jeroboam did not give up his evil ways after this, but again made priests for the high places from among the common people. Whoever desired it was consecrated and became a priest of the high places. This was a sin on the part of the house of Jeroboam for which it was to be cut off and destroyed from the earth.

Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute, and they distributed them to the crowd. They also had a few fish. He said the blessing over them and ordered them distributed also. They ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over-seven baskets. There were about four thousand people. He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciples and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

The disciples went forth and preached the Gospel, while the Lord worked with them, confirming the word through accompanying signs.

O God, Father of all nations, who make us sharers in the one Bread and the one Spirit and heirs of the eternal banquet, grant in your kindness on this feast day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, that the multitude of your children, persevering in the same faith, may be united in building up the Kingdom of justice and peace. Meditation
“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd.” Today’s readings present us two types of leaders: in the First Reading, we see a leader who leads his people into sin, and in the Gospel, we see a leader who caters for his people. Jeroboam, in his desire to consolidate his power and keep his people loyal to him, led them into idolatry; he made them abandon the Lord and worship idols, and he desecrated the priesthood. Jesus, for his part, nourished the crowd that followed him spiritually and physically; he instructed the crowd on God’s Word for three days, and then fed the crowd before sending it away. We are leaders at various levels and in various capacities; you may be a priest, a parent, a teacher, the president of a social group, or a director at your workplace. What type of leader are you? Are you the type who oppresses people, bosses them around, and allows or even encourages them to do evil? Or do you show concern for their needs, try to make life easy for them, and exhort them to do what is right by word and example? Is your model Jeroboam or Jesus?

Pour accomplir la loi juive, Marie et Joseph viennent au Temple avec Jésus, car celui-ci, étant un premier-né, doit y être présenté. Luc relate cet événement pour mettre en relief le chemin par lequel Jésus passera pour accomplir sa mission de Sauveur universel. En effet, au moment où la Sainte Famille pénètre dans le Temple, l’Esprit Saint fait parler un vieillard qui reconnaît en Jésus le Serviteur annoncé par le livre d’Isaïe. Comme ce Serviteur, le fils de Marie souffrira la contradiction. C’est sous les traits d’un Messie souffrant qu’il réalisera les promesses faites à son peuple, représenté par deux vieillards, Syméon et Anne.

1ère lecture : 1 R 11, 29-32 ; 2018, 19
Salomon avait fait de Jéroboam un inspecteur des corvées. Un jour que Jéroboam était sorti de Jérusalem, il fut arrêté en chemin par le prophète Ahias de Silo; celui-ci portait un manteau neuf, et tous deux étaient seuls dans la campagne. Ahias prit le manteau neuf qu’il portait et le déchira en douze morceaux. Puis il dit à Jéroboam: «Prends pour toi dix morceaux, car ainsi parle le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël: Voici que je vais déchirer le royaume en l’arrachant à Salomon, et je te donnerai dix tribus. Il lui restera une tribu, à cause de mon serviteur David, et de Jérusalem, la ville que je me suis choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël. » Les dix tribus d’Israël rejetèrent la maison de David, et cette situation dure encore aujourd’hui où ceci est écrit.

Évangile : Mc 7, 31-37
En ce temps-là, Jésus quitta le territoire de Tyr; passant par Sidon, il prit la direction de la mer de Galilée et alla en plein territoire de la Décapole. Des gens lui amènent un sourd qui avait aussi de la difficulté à parler, et supplient Jésus de poser la main sur lui. Jésus l’emmena à l’écart, loin de la foule, lui mit les doigts dans les oreilles, et, avec sa salive, lui toucha la langue. Puis, les yeux levés au ciel, il soupira et lui dit: « Effata ! », c’est-à-dire : « Ouvre-toi ! » Ses oreilles s’ouvrirent; sa langue se délia, et il parlait correctement. Alors Jésus leur ordonna de n’en rien dire à personne; mais plus il leur donnait cet ordre, plus ceux-ci le proclamaient. Extrêmement frappés, ils disaient: «Il a bien fait toutes choses: il fait entendre les sourds et parler les muets.»
Prière sur les offrandes
Seigneur notre Dieu, tu as voulu choisir dans ta création le pain et le vin qui refont chaque jour nos forces: Fais qu’ils deviennent aussi pour nous le sacrement de la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.
Antienne de communion
Proclamons l’amour du Seigneur, ses merveilles pour les hommes: Il a rassasié ceux qui avaient faim, et désaltéré ceux qui avaient soif.
Prière après la communion
Tu as voulu, Seigneur, que nous partagions un même pain et que nous buvions à la même coupe: Accorde-nous de vivre tellement unis dans le Christ que nous portions du fruit pour le salut du monde. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Les œuvres du Christ ne sont pas des publicités qu’il fait de lui-même. Le Christ dans ses agirs ne cherche pas à tirer sa gloire des hommes. Le fait qu’il prenne ce sourd-muet à l’écart pour le soigner est un exemple qu’il nous donne de ce que doivent être nos œuvres de charité. Ni pompeux ni vantard.
