Saint Norbert, eveque

He was born in Xanten, Germany.. After a period of worldly life, at the age of 35 he had a narrow escape from death and his life changed. He became a priest. He founded a religious Order after the rule of St. Augustine. He died in 1134.

Prière d’ouverture
Seigneur, pour nous ouvrir la vie éternelle, tu as exalté ton lumière; fais qu’en participant a une telle grâce, nous soyons plus dévoués à te servir et obtenions une plus grande foi. Par Jésus Christ.
1ère lecture : Acte des Apôtres 25, 13-21
En ces jours-là, le roi Agrippa et Bérénice vinrent à Césarée saluer le gouverneur Festus. Comme ils passaient là plusieurs jours, Festus exposa au roi la situation de Paul en disant : « Il y a ici un homme que mon prédécesseur Félix a laissé en prison. Quand je me suis trouvé à Jérusalem, les grands prêtres et les anciens des Juifs ont exposé leurs griefs contre lui en réclamant sa condamnation. J’ai répondu que les Romains n’ont pas coutume de faire la faveur de livrer qui que ce soit lorsqu’il est accusé, avant qu’il soit confronté avec ses accusateurs et puisse se défendre du chef d’accusation. Ils se sont donc retrouvés ici, et sans aucun délai, le lendemain même, j’ai siégé au tribunal et j’ai donné l’ordre d’amener cet homme. Quand ils se levèrent, les accusateurs n’ont mis à sa charge aucun des méfaits que, pour ma part, j’aurais supposés. Ils avaient seulement avec lui certains débats au sujet de leur propre religion, et au sujet d’un certain Jésus qui est mort, mais que Paul affirmait être en vie. Quant à moi, embarrassé devant la suite à donner à l’instruction, j’ai demandé à Paul s’il voulait aller à Jérusalem pour y être jugé sur cette affaire. Mais Paul a fait appel pour être gardé en prison jusqu’à la décision impériale. J’ai donc ordonné de le garder en prison jusqu’au renvoi de sa cause devant l’empereur. »

Jésus se manifesta encore aux disciples sur le bord de la mer de Tibériade. Quand ils eurent mangé, Jésus dit à Simon-Pierre : « Simon, fils de Jean, m’aimes-tu vraiment, plus que ceux-ci ? » Il lui répond: « Oui, Seigneur ! Toi, tu le sais: je t’aime. » Jésus lui dit : « Sois le berger de mes agneaux. » Il lui dit une deuxième fois : « Simon, fils de Jean, m’aimes-tu vraiment ? » Il lui répond : « Oui, Seigneur ! Toi, tu le sais : je t’aime. » Jésus lui dit : « Sois le pasteur de mes brebis. » Il lui dit, pour la troisième fois: « Simon, fils de Jean, m’aimes-tu ? » Pierre fut peiné parce que, la troisième fois, Jésus lui demandait: « M’aimes-tu ? » Il lui répond : «Seigneur, toi, tu sais tout : tu sais bien que je t’aime. » Jésus lui dit : «Sois le berger de mes brebis. Amen, amen, je te le dis : quand tu étais jeune, tu mettais ta ceinture toi-même pour aller là où tu voulais ; quand tu seras vieux, tu étendras les mains, et c’est un autre qui te mettra ta ceinture, pour t’emmener là où tu ne voudrais pas aller. » Jésus disait cela pour signifier par quel genre de mort Pierre rendrait gloire à Dieu. Sur ces mots, il lui dit : « Suis-moi. »
Prière sur les offrandes
Regarde avec bonté, Seigneur, le sacrifice offert par ton peuple: et pour que tu puisses l’accueillir, envoie-nous l’Esprit Saint qui purifiera nos cœurs. Par Jésus.

« Quand viendra l’Esprit de vérité, dit Jésus, il vous guidera vers la vérité tout entière », alléluia.
Prière après la communion
Dieu qui nous purifies et soutiens nos forces dans le sacrement de l’eucharistie, fais-nous trouver la vie éternelle à cette table ou tu nous invites. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Dans la suite du Christ, le martyre est une donnée ineluctable. Celui qui accepte le Christ et lui affirme son amour impartial doit s’attendre aux contrariétés qui pour Christ ne vise pas la perte de ce dernier mais son salut. Il est donc necessaire pour chacun de s’attendre chaque jours à etre bousculé dans sa foi tout en sachant qu’à la fin une couronne d’or attend tout ceux qui auront tenu bon.

Saint Boniface (675- 754)
Psalter: Week III

Born in England about 680, St. Boniface became a Benedictine monk. He was appointed the first bishop of Germany by Pope Gregory II. Together with thirty companions, he died a martyrs dead in 754.

This Saint went as far as death, handing over his life to destruction for the work of Christ, alleluia.

May the Martyr Saint Boniface be our advocate, O Lord, that we may firmly hold the faith he taught with his lips and sealed in his blood and confidently profess it by our deeds. First reading : Acts 22:30,23:6-11
Since the tribune wanted to know what precise charge the Jews were bringing, he freed Paul and gave orders for a meeting of the chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin; then he brought Paul down and stood him in front of them. Now Paul was well aware that one section was made up of Sadducees and the other of Pharisees, so he called out in the Sanhedrin, ‘Brothers, I am a Pharisee and the son of Pharisees. It is for our hope in the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.’ As soon as he said this a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was split between the two parties. For the Sadducees say there is neither resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, while the Pharisees accept all three. The shouting grew louder, and some of the Scribes from the Pharisees’ party stood up and protested strongly, ‘We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel?’ Feeling was running high, and the tribune, afraid that they would tear Paul to pieces, ordered his troops to go down and haul him out and bring him into the fortress. Next night, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘Courage! You have borne witness for me in Jerusalem, now you must do the same in Rome.’

Prayer over the Offerings
As we commemorate the martyrdom of blessed N., O Lord, we make our offerings at your altar, praying that we, who celebrate the mysteries of our Lord’s Passion, may imitate what we now do. Through Christ our Lord.

As we celebrate the heavenly banquet, we beseech you, Lord, that, in following such a great example of faith, we may be encouraged by the remembrance of the blessed Martyr N. and led on by his (her) gracious intercession. Through Christ our Lord.
Meditation
As the Easter season, drawing to a close, revolves around the resurrection, which is the foundation of our Christian faith, we, as Christians, affirm our belief in Christ’s resurrection from the dead, and anticipate our own life after death. In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul states that if Jesus has not risen from the dead, then our faith is vain (1Cor 15:14). In today’s First Reading, he reveals that his imprisonment is a consequence of proclaiming the reality of the resurrection. This theme resonates in today’s Psalm, where the Psalmist expresses confidence in God saying, “For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay.” This indicates that centuries before Christ’s birth, the Holy Spirit had already revealed to the Psalmist the truth of the resurrection. Belief in the resurrection is an act of faith in Jesus that leads us to seek communion with Him, because it is only by believing in Him and obeying His will that we can hope to share in His victory over death. The closer we grow to Jesus, the easier it will be for us to attain the union with him and the heavenly Father that He prays to in today’s Gospel. May Jesus strengthen our belief in the resurrection, and may this belief unite us more strongly to Him and to one another.

Saint Boniface (675- 754)

Apôtre de la Germanie et moine bénédictin anglais du nom de Winfrid. D’abord avec saint Willibord, puis seul, il parcourt la Germanie où il fonde des monastères, notamment à Fulda. Grégoire II le sacre évêque et lui donne le nom de Boniface. Devenu archevêque de Mayence, il garde le même souci d’annoncer l’Evangile ; à 84 ans, il part en Frise et y est massacré le jour de la Pentecôte.
Antienne d’ouverture : cf Ps 118, 85.46
Saint Boniface est vraiment un martyr, car il a versé son sang pour le nom du Christ ; il n’a pas craint les menaces, et il est parvenu au Royaume du ciel.
Prière d’ouverture
Permets, Seigneur, qu’a l’intercession de saint Boniface, nous puissions tenir sans défaillance et proclamer par toute notre vie la foi qu’il a lui-même enseignée, et dont il sut témoigner dans le martyre. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Act: 22, 30; 23, 6-11
En ces jours-là, Paul avait été arrêté à Jérusalem. Le lendemain, le commandant voulut savoir avec certitude de quoi les Juifs l’accusaient. Il lui fit enlever ses liens; puis il convoqua les grands prêtres et tout le Conseil suprême, et il fit descendre Paul pour l’amener devant eux. Sachant que le Conseil suprêmes répartissait entre sadducéens et pharisiens, Paul s’écria devant eux: « Frères, moi, je suis pharisien, fils de pharisiens. C’est à cause de notre espérance, la résurrection des morts, que je passe en jugement. » À peine avait-il dit cela, qu’il y eut un affrontement entre pharisiens et sadducéens, et l’assemblée se divisa. En effet, les sadducéens disent qu’il n’y a pas de résurrection, pas plus que d’ange ni d’esprit, tandis que les pharisiens professent tout cela. Il se fit alors un grand vacarme. Quelques scribes du côté des pharisiens se levèrent et protestèrent vigoureusement: «Nous ne trouvons rien de mal chez cet homme. Et si c’était un esprit qui lui avait parlé, ou un ange?» L’affrontement devint très violent, et le commandant craignit que Paul ne se fasse écharper. Il ordonna à la troupe de descendre pour l’arracher à la mêlée et le ramener dans la forteresse. La nuit suivante, le Seigneur vint auprès de Paul et lui dit : « Courage! Le témoignage que tu m’as rendu à Jérusalem, il faut que tu le rendes aussi à Rome. ».

Accepte, Seigneur, les offrandes que nous apportons en la fête de saint Boniface, qu’elles soient précieuses à tes yeux, comme le fut le sang de ton martyr. Par Jésus.

Méditation
le salut est un don fait au monde entier par Dieu. c’est un don dont la foi est la clef; la foi en Christ mort et ressucité qui siege à la droite du pere et qui reviendra pour juger les vivants et les morts. Tout homme y est appelé. mais cet appel necessite une reponse favorable qui est l’acceptation d’entrée dans l’unité savifique du Christ à travers la foi vécue, célébré et professée.

Saint clotilde

Déjà chrétienne quand elle épousa le roi païen des Francs, Clovis, a princesse burgonde Clotilde (474-545) sut gagner le respect de son mari et, par son influence, prépara sa conversion. Veuve et privée de ses enfants, victimes de luttes fratricides, elle se retira à Tours où elle mourut ; on l’ensevelit à Paris près de Clovis et de sainte Geneviève.

Prière d’ouverture
Dieu d’infinie bonté, nous t’en prions: accorde à ton Eglise rassemblée par l’Esprit Saint de se dévouer de tout cœur à ton service, et d’être unie dans l’accomplissement de ta volonté. Par Jésus.
1ère lecture : Act, 20, 28-38
En ces jours-là, Paul faisait ses adieux aux Anciens de l’Église d’Éphèse. Il leur disait : « Veillez sur vous-mêmes, et sur tout le troupeau dont l’Esprit Saint vous a établis responsables, pour être les pasteurs de l’Église de Dieu, qu’il s’est acquise par son propre sang. Moi, je sais qu’après mon départ, des loups redoutables s’introduiront chez vous et n’épargneront pas le troupeau. Même du milieu de vous surgiront des hommes qui tiendront des discours pervers pour entraîner les disciples à leur suite. Soyez donc vigilants, et souvenez-vous que, durant trois ans, nuit et jour, je n’ai cessé, dans les larmes, de reprendre chacun d’entre vous. Et maintenant, je vous confie à Dieu et à la parole de sa grâce, lui qui a le pouvoir de construire l’édifice et de donner à chacun l’héritage en compagnie de tous ceux qui ont été sanctifiés. Je n’ai convoité ni l’argent ni l’or ni le vêtement de puis surnommé Justus, et Matthias. Ensuite, on fit cette prière : « Toi, Seigneur, qui connais tous les cœurs, désigne lequel des deux tu as choisi pour qu’il prenne, dans le ministère apostolique, la place que Judas a désertée en allant à la place qui est désormais la sienne. » On tira au sort entre eux, et le sort tomba sur Matthias, qui fut donc associé par suffrage aux onze Apôtres.

J’ai veillé sur eux, et aucun ne s’est perdu, sauf celui qui s’en va à sa perte de sorte que l’Écriture soit accomplie.
Et maintenant que je viens à toi, je parle ainsi, dans le monde, pour qu’ils aient en eux ma joie, et qu’ils en soient comblés. Moi, je leur ai donné ta parole, et le monde les a pris en haine parce qu’ils n’appartiennent pas au monde, de même que moi je n’appartiens pas au monde. Je ne prie pas pour que tu les retires du monde, mais pour que tu les gardes du Mauvais. Ils n’appartiennent pas au monde, de même que moi, je n’appartiens pas au monde. Sanctifie-les dans la vérité : ta parole est vérité.
De même que tu m’as envoyé dans le monde, moi aussi, je les ai envoyés dans le monde. Et pour eux je me sanctifie moi-même, afin qu’ils soient, eux aussi, sanctifiés dans la vérité. »

Que l’Esprit Saint qui vient de toi, Seigneur, et qui est lui-même le pardon des péchés, prépare nos cœurs à tes sacrements. Par Jésus.

Méditation
Tendant vers le crépuscule de sa vie, le Christ conscient des difficultés auxquelles ses disciples auront à faire face prends le soin de les confier au Père afin que ceux-ci ne soient en aucun cas dérouté par les discours captieux du monde. Cela est un signe de son amour pour eux et une volonté de leur témoigner de sa proximité. Ainsi, tout disciple du Christ doit toujours se sentir soutenu dans sa mission quels que soient les difficultés et les contradictions du monde et surtout garder vivante sa foi.

First reading: Acts 20:28-38
Paul addressed these words to the elders of the church of Ephesus: ‘Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you the overseers, to feed the Church of God which he bought with his own blood. I know quite well that when I have gone fierce wolves will invade you and will have no mercy on the flock. Even from your own ranks there will be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips to induce the disciples to follow them. So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never failed to keep you right, shedding tears over each one of you. Meditation
Both Paul and Jesus prayed for the leaders of the Church. Paul commended the leaders of the church in Ephesus to the grace of God, while Jesus prayed to His Father to keep His disciples, who were to assume leadership roles in His Church, safe from the evil one, and asked for their consecration in the truth. The role of a spiritual leader is not an easy one as he has to set an example for others to follow, providing instruction to his sheep in the faith, feeding them with true and sound doctrine. Additionally, he must support his followers through prayer and encouragement, helping them to navigate trials and difficulties while remaining faithful to the Gospel. Both Jesus and Paul knew how difficult this task was, and so they invoked God’s assistance for the church leaders. In the same vein, let us also pray for our spiritual leaders: the Pope, bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and catechists. Furthermore, let us extend our prayers to all parents, recognising them as leaders of the domestic church, which is the family. Whether we are parents or not, let us commend them all to the grace of God.

Les vingt-deux premiers martyrs de l’Afrique noire, canonisés en 1964, périrent, pour la plupart, le 3 juin 1886 à Namugongo, qui est devenu un haut-lieu de l’Eglise en Ouganda. Victimes d’un roitelet dépravé, ils furent livrés à d’atroces supplices pour avoir refusé de renier leur foi ; certains, dont Charles Lwanga, le chef des pages, avaient dû défendre leur pureté contre les sollicitations du roi.

Sur terre, les martyrs ont versé leur sang pour le Christ ; aussi ont-il reçu leur récompense dans le ciel.

Méditation
L’accomplissement de tout œuvre est toujours ponctué par une évaluation du cheminement adopté afin de percevoir le résultat obtenu. Pour Dieu cela n’en fait pas exception. Le Christ tout comme saint Paul après lui a tenu à rendre compte au Père de la mission qui lui a été confié. Dans cet élan nous sommes invité en tant que chrétien a évaluer constament nos actes dans la prière afin de percevoir ce que Dieu pense des fruits obtenus.

Saints Charles Lwanga and his companions became the first martyrs of black Africa under Ugandan king Mwanga. They were executed for being Christians, for rebuking the king for his debauchery and for murdering an Anglican missionary and for “praying from a book,” . They died between 1885 and 1887.

As gold in the furnace, the Lord put his chosen to the test; as sacrificial offerings, he took them to himself; and in due time they will be honoured, and grace and peace will be with the elect of God, alleluia.

Meditation
Paul had come to the end of his mission in Ephesus, and could reflect with satisfaction on his accomplishments. When addressing the leaders of the church of that town, he affirmed his unwavering commitment to the Gospel, both in word and actions, and he could leave Ephesus with a clear conscience. Similarly, at the end of His earthly ministry, Jesus could look back at a job well done. In His prayer to His Father, He asserted that He had completed the work His Father entrusted to Him on earth. As each day draws to a close, we should examine our consciences and ask ourselves if, in the day, we remained faithful to our Christian calling. Were our thoughts, words, and actions pleasing to God? Did our way of life serve as an inspiration to others? Have we faithfully fulfilled our mission of bearing witness to the Good News of God’s grace? Let us strive to live our lives in a manner that allows us to consistently stand before our God with a clear conscience.

First reading : Acts 19:1-8
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul made his way overland as far as Ephesus, where he found a number of disciples. When he asked, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?’ they answered, ‘No, we were never even told there was such a thing as a Holy Spirit.’ ‘Then how were you baptised?’ he asked. ‘With John’s baptism’ they replied. ‘John’s baptism’ said Paul ‘was a baptism of repentance; but he insisted that the people should believe in the one who was to come after him – in other words, Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the moment Paul had laid hands on them the Holy Spirit came down on them, and they began to speak with tongues and to prophesy. There were about twelve of these men. He began by going to the synagogue, where he spoke out boldly and argued persuasively about the kingdom of God. He did this for three months.

Meditation
“In the world, you will have trouble.” Jesus is honest with us, making it clear that being a Christian is not an easy ride. We live in a world where Christianity is not in fashion. Christian values such as justice, honesty, love, and patience can attract us more enemies than friends. People may hate and reject us because we speak the truth and stand for justice, while others might take advantage of our meekness and love. However, Jesus assures us that we shall never be alone in these difficulties. The Holy Spirit, whom we received during baptism, will empower us to remain steadfast to Christ even when the world opposes us. By his death and resurrection, Jesus conquered the world, and by staying faithful to Him, we can share in His triumph. Come, Holy Spirit, and fill us with the strength to remain rooted in Christ despite the hostility we encounter in the world.

1ère lecture : Act. 19, 1-8

Méditation
Le baptême est le sacrement qui imprime en celui qui le reçoit la marque inaltérable de son appartenance au Christ. C’est la marque par laquelle tout disciple du Christ est reconnu dans le monde. Coiffé de ce sacrement, le disciple est appelé à devenir « témoin messager de la joie de l’Evangile » ; témoignage qui ne va pas sans heurt, ni souffrance, raison pour laquelle le christ rassure ses disciples de sa présence permanente.

Meditation
Today, Christianity finds itself fragmented into numerous churches and denominations, with each holding distinct views on various theological matters, such as: Mary, the sacraments, the role of the Church, and the clergy. Observing this divergence, one might question the common ground among these self-proclaimed Christians. Perhaps, it is precisely because Jesus anticipated this sad spectacle that He prayed, extending an invitation for us to join Him in praying for the unity of Christians. The disunity is not from God, for God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, embodies communion. Jesus, in His prayers, sought unity among his followers in much the same way as there is unity between Him and His Father. We Christians should learn to go beyond our differences and concentrate on what unites us: that is, our faith in Jesus Christ. He is the only begotten Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, died for our sins, obtained salvation for us through His resurrection, and ascension into heaven where He is now seated at God’s right hand, from where he will come again to judge us according to our deeds. After this judgement, He shall give eternal life to those who have remained faithful to His Word. It was on account of this faith that Stephen was prepared to die. May this same faith empower us to build bridges between all those who identify themselves as Christian.
