Blessed Jordan of Saxony, OP
Born at Burgberg, Westphalia, around the year 1185. While studying in Paris he was attracted to the Dominican Order by Blessed Reginald and received the habit from him in 1220. For fifteen years he ministered to his brothers and sisters by his preaching, his letters, his edition of the Constitutions, his frequent visitations and the example of his life.. His love for Mary, the Mother of God, expressed itself by his decree that the Salve Regina was to be sung after compline. Blessed Jordan was shipwrecked and drowned on February 13, 1237.

First reading: Genesis 4: 1-15, 25
The man had intercourse with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. “I have acquired a man with the help of the Lord”, she said. She gave birth to a second child, Abel, the brother of Cain. Now Abel became a shepherd and kept flocks, while Cain tilled the soil. Time passed and Cain brought some of the produce of the soil as an offering for the Lord, while Abel for his part brought the first-born of his flock and some of their fat as well. The Lord looked with favour on Abel and his offering. But he did not look with favour on Cain and his offering, and Cain was very angry and downcast. The Lord asked Cain, “Why are you angry and downcast? If you are well disposed, ought you not to lift up your head? But if you are ill disposed, is not sin at the door like a crouching beast hungering for you, which you must master?” Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go out”. and while they were in the open country, Cain set on his brother Abel and killed him. The Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I do not know”, he replied. “Am I my brother’s guardian?” “What have you done?” the Lord asked. “Listen to the sound of your brother’s blood, crying out to me from the ground. Now be accursed and driven from the ground that has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood at your hands. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield you any of its produce. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer over the earth.” Then Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. See! Today you drive me from this ground. I must hide from you, and be a fugitive and a wanderer over the earth. Why, whoever comes across me will kill me!” “Very well, then,” the Lord replied. “If anyone kills Cain, sevenfold vengeance shall be taken for him.” So the Lord put a mark on Cain, to prevent whoever might come across him from striking him down. Adam had intercourse with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she named Seth, “because God has granted me other offspring”, she said, “in place of Abel, since Cain has killed him.”

Meditation
Jesus responds to the Pharisees’ quest for a sign from heaven with a sigh straight from the heart. Religious people sometimes look for signs, seeking the extraordinary and unusual. Jesus invites us to see signs of God’s presence in ordinary things: this sower goes out to sow his field, the woman with her lost coin, the care given to a stranger on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, the man who finds the unexpected treasure, and so on. Do we need extraordinary signs of Christ’s omnipotence and goodness towards us before we can believe in him? He gives them to us in abundance, according to his goodwill. But unfortunately, we often lack the heart’s eyes to discern them. The signs or miracles of the Lord can and must arouse our faith, that is, our trust and adherence to him. But they must not be the condition sine qua non for faith! Let not our faith be satisfied with miracles or signs, at the risk of falling into miracle seeking and magic. Jesus Christ is the sign of God’s presence and action among us. Believe in him!

1ère lecture : Sir 15, 15-20
Si tu le veux, tu peux observer les commandements, il dépend de ton choix de rester fidèle. Le Seigneur a mis devant toi l’eau et le feu : étends la main vers ce que tu préfères. La vie et la mort sont proposées aux hommes, l’une ou l’autre leur est donnée selon leur choix. Car la sagesse du Seigneur est grande, fort est son pouvoir, et il voit tout. Ses regards sont tournés vers ceux qui le craignent, il connaît toutes les actions des hommes. Il n’a commandé à personne d’être impie, il n’a donné à personne la permission de pécher

2ème lecture : 1 Co 2, 6-10
Frères, c’est bien de sagesse quenous parlons devant ceux qui sont adultes dans la foi, mais ce n’est pas la sagesse de ce monde, la sagesse de ceux qui dirigent ce monde et qui vont à leur destruction. Au contraire, ce dont nous parlons, c’est de la sagesse du mystère de Dieu, sagesse tenue cachée, établie par lui dès avant les siècles, pour nous donner la gloire. Aucun de ceux qui dirigent ce monde ne l’a connue, car, s’ils l’avaient connue, ils n’auraient jamais crucifié le Seigneur de
gloire. Mais ce que nous proclamons, c’est, comme dit l’Écriture : ce que l’œil n’a pas vu, ce que l’oreille n’a pas entendu, ce qui n’est pas venu à l’esprit de l’homme, ce que
Dieu a préparé pour ceux dont il est aimé. Et c’est à nous que Dieu, par l’Esprit, en a fait la révélation. Car l’Esprit scrute le fond de toutes choses, même les profondeurs de Dieu.

Alléluia, alléluia ! Tu es béni, Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, tu as révélé aux tout-petits les mystères du Royaume ! Alléluia. (cf. Mt 11, 25)
Évangile : Mt 5, 17-37
En ce temps-là, Jésus disait à ses disciples : « Je vous le dis : Si votre justice ne surpasse pas celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n’entrerez pas dans le royaume des Cieux. Vous avez appris qu’il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne commettras pas de meurtre, et si quelqu’un commet un meurtre, il devra passer en jugement. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis : Tout homme qui se met en colère contre son frère devra passer en jugement. Vous avez appris qu’il a été dit : Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis : Tout homme qui regarde une femme avec convoitise a déjà commis l’adultère avec elle dans son cœur. Vous avez encore appris qu’il a été dit aux anciens : Tu ne manqueras pas à tes serments, mais tu t’acquitteras de tes serments envers le Seigneur. Eh bien ! moi, je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout. Que votre parole soit ‘oui’, si c’est ‘oui’, ‘non’, si c’est ‘non’. Ce qui est en plus vient du Mauvais.
Prière sur les offrandes
Seigneur notre Dieu, tu as voulu choisir dans ta création le pain et le vin qui refont chaque jour nos forces: Fais qu’ils deviennent aussi pour nous le sacrement de la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.

Proclamons l’amour du Seigneur, ses merveilles pour les hommes: Il a rassasié ceux qui avaient faim, et désaltéré ceux qui avaient soif.

Tu as voulu, Seigneur, que nous partagions un même pain et que nous buvions à la même coupe : Accorde-nous de vivre tellement unis dans le Christ que nous portions du fruit pour le salut du monde. Par Jésus.
Méditation Pour nous donner la justice nouvelle et parfaite qui nous fera avoir part au Royaume, Jésus nous apprend à lutter contre le mal en détruisant le péché à la racine, c’est-à-dire dans nos cœurs, où il germe comme intentions et désirs mauvais. Ainsi dit-il qu’il vaudrait mieux déjà ne pas garder la colère en nous. Il vaudrait mieux déjà ne même pas convoiter dans son cœur une femme qui n’est pas sienne, de peur de se retrouver un jour en train de commettre avec elle un adultère. Il vaudrait mieux encore ne pas jurer du tout que de se retrouver en train de manquer à son serment. Le péché ayant ses racines profondes dans les pensées et les désirs de nos cœurs, les appétits de nos sens et les fantasmes de notre imagination, c’est donc à l’intérieur de nous qu’il faut combattre et vaincre le mal. Ainsi le péché qui n’en est que la matérialisation effective n’aura pas lieu. Dieu nous y aide en purifiant nos cœurs, par un effet de sa grâce venant au secours de notre faible nature.

Second reading: 1 Corinthians 2: 6-10
We have a wisdom to offer those who have reached maturity: not a philosophy of our age, it is true, still less of the masters of our age, which are coming to their end. The hidden wisdom of God which we teach in our mysteries is the wisdom that God predestined to be for our glory before the ages began. It is a wisdom that none of the masters of this age have ever known, or they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory; we teach what scripture calls: the things that no eye has seen and no ear has heard, things beyond the mind of man, all that God has prepared for those who love him. These are the very things that God has revealed to us through the Spirit, for the Spirit reaches the depths of everything, even the depths of God.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved. Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven; but the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, if your virtue goes no deeper than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. You have learnt how it was said to our ancestors: You must not kill; and if anyone does kill, he must answer for it before the court. But I say this to you: anyone who is angry with his brother will answer for it before the court; if a man calls his brother ‘Fool’ he will answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and if a man calls him ‘Renegade’ he will answer for it in hell fire. So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then come back and present your offering. Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are still on the way to the court with him, or he may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison. I tell you solemnly, you will not get out till you have paid the last penny. You have learnt how it was said: You must not commit adultery. But I say this to you: if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye should cause you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of you than to have your whole body thrown into hell. And if your right hand should cause you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of you than to have your whole body go to hell. It has also been said: Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal. But I say this to you: everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of fornication, makes her an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Again, you have learnt how it was said to our ancestors: You must not break your oath, but must fulfil your oaths to the Lord. But I say this to you: do not swear at all, either by heaven, since that is God’s throne; or by the earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great king. Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black. All you need say is “Yes” if you mean yes, “No” if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the evil one.”

Meditation
Taking from Sirach’s words, God presents to us two options in our First Reading, “life and death.” In other words, God gives us the freedom to choose. God created us out of his love, and whatever choice we make has its consequences. As Christians, we should choose to have a good relationship with God and our brothers and sisters, as expressed in the Gospel; “Love God and Love Your Neighbour.” Jesus teaches about our relationship to the Torah and its demand for love. Many believe that “becoming great” in God’s kingdom means attending Church regularly; however, more is required. The Neighbour whom Jesus talks about is anybody around us; the people in our street, Neighbourhood, city, village, county, municipality, or parish… Show them some love.

Notre Dame de Lourdes
Le message de Lourdes, qui est appel à la conversion et à la prière, fait écho à celui de Jésus dans l’Evangile. A la fin de ses apparitions à Bernadette (1858), Marie se nomme ‘’l’Immaculée Conception’’, pour souligner que tout, en elle, est un don de l’Amour qui l’a gratuitement choisi. Par la voix de l’humble bergère, elle nous invite à prier avec une confiance inlassable, afin de nous ouvrir comme elle à l’Amour qui veut nous sauver.

Venez, inclinez-vous, prosternez-vous: adorons le Seigneur qui nous a faits: oui, il est notre Dieu.
Prière d’ouverture

1ère lecture : Gn 3, 9-24
Quand l’homme eut désobéi à Dieu, le Seigneur Dieu l’appela et lui dit : « Où es-tu donc ? » Il répondit : « J’ai entendu ta voix dans le jardin, j’ai pris peur parce que je suis nu, et je me suis caché. » Le Seigneur reprit : « Qui donc t’a dit que tu étais nu ? Aurais-tu mangé de l’arbre dont je t’avais interdit de manger ? » L’homme répondit : « La femme que tu m’as donnée, c’est elle qui m’a donné du fruit de l’arbre, et j’en ai mangé. » Le Seigneur Dieu dit à la femme : « Qu’as-tu fait là ? » La femme répondit : « Le serpent m’a trompée, et j’ai mangé. » Alors le Seigneur Dieu dit au serpent : « Parce que tu as fait cela, tu seras maudit parmi tous les animaux et toutes les bêtes des champs. Tu ramperas sur le ventre et tu mangeras de la poussière tous les jours de ta vie. Je mettrai une hostilité entre toi et la femme, entre ta descendance et sa descendance : celle-ci te meurtrira la tête, et toi, tu lui meurtriras le talon. » Le Seigneur Dieu dit ensuite à la femme : « Je multiplierai la peine de tes grossesses ; c’est dans la peine que tu enfanteras des fils. Ton désir te portera vers ton mari, et celui-ci dominera sur toi. » Il dit enfin à l’homme : « Parce que tu as écouté la voix de ta femme, et que tu as mangé le fruit de l’arbre que je t’avais interdit de manger: maudit soit le sol à cause de toi ! C’est dans la peine que tu en tireras ta nourriture, tous les jours de ta vie. De lui -même, il te donnera épines et chardons, mais tu auras ta nourriture en cultivant les champs. C’est à la sueur de ton visage que tu gagneras ton pain, jusqu’à ce que tu retournes à la terre dont tu proviens ; car tu es poussière, et à la poussière tu retourneras. » L’homme appela sa femme Ève (c’est-à-dire : la vivante), parce qu’elle fut la mère de tous les vivants. Le Seigneur Dieu fit à l’homme et à sa femme des tuniques de peau et les en revêtit. Puis le Seigneur Dieu déclara : « Voilà que l’homme est devenu comme l’un de nous par la connaissance du bien et du mal ! Maintenant, ne permettons pas qu’il avance la main, qu’il cueille aussi le fruit de l’arbre de vie, qu’il en mange et vive éternellement ! » Alors le Seigneur Dieu le renvoya du jardin d’Éden, pour qu’il travaille la terre d’où il avait été tiré. Il expulsa l’homme, et il posta, à l’orient du jardin d’Éden, les Kéroubim, armés d’un glaive fulgurant, pour garder l’accès de l’arbre de vie.

R/ D’âge en âge, Seigneur, tu as été notre refuge.
Avant que naissent les montagnes, que tu enfantes la terre et le monde, de toujours à toujours, toi, tu es Dieu.
Tu fais retourner l’homme à la poussière; tu as dit : « Retournez, fils d’Adam ! » À tes yeux, mille ans sont comme hier, c’est un jour qui s’en va, une heure dans la nuit.
Tu les as balayés : ce n’est qu’un songe ; dès le matin, c’est une herbe changeante : elle fleurit le matin, elle change ; le soir, elle est fanée, desséchée.
Apprends-nous la vraie mesure de nos jours: que nos cœurs pénètrent la sagesse. Reviens, Seigneur, pourquoi tarder ? Ravise-toi par égard pour tes serviteurs.

Alléluia, alléluia ! L’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu Alléluia. (Mt 4, 4b)
Évangile : Mc 8, 1-10
En ces jours-là, comme il y avait une grande foule, et que les gens n’avaient rien à manger, Jésus appelle à lui ses disciples et leur dit : « J’ai de la compassion pour cette foule, car depuis trois jours déjà ils restent auprès de moi, et n’ont rien à manger. Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils vont défaillir en chemin, et certains d’entre eux sont venus de loin. » Ses disciples lui répondirent : « Où donc pourra- t-on trouver du pain pour les rassasier ici, dans le désert ? » Il leur demanda : « Combien de pains avez-vous ?» Ils lui dirent: « Sept. » Alors il ordonna à la foule de s’asseoir par terre. Puis, prenant les sept pains et rendant grâce, il les rompit, et il les donnait à ses disciples pour que ceux-ci les distribuent ; et ils les distribuèrent à la foule. Ils avaient aussi quelques petits poissons, que Jésus bénit et fit aussi distribuer. Les gens mangèrent et furent rassasiés. On ramassa les morceaux qui restaient: cela faisait sept corbeilles. Or, ils étaient environ quatre mille. Puis Jésus les renvoya. Aussitôt, montant dans la barque avec ses disciples, il alla dans la région de Dalmanoutha.

Méditation
Le péché fait qu’on se rejette mutuellement les torts et se sépare, au lieu de s’organiser solidairement, pour faire face ensemble aux aspérités de la condition humaine. Que l’irresponsabilité d’Adam et Ève ne nous habite pas. À l’initiative de Jésus qui entreprend de nourrir la foule affamée, ses disciples collaborent en donnant le peu dont ils disposent. Oui, même le peu que nous avons peut aider ceux qui n’en ont pas. La charité envers doit pouvoir mettre notre rationalité économique au défi du partage. Le Seigneur, qui se manifeste dans ces gestes de partage, saura le trouver assez suffisant pour le multiplier et en donner à chacun. Et puisqu’il bénit ainsi le pain de nos partages, nous nous trouverons dans l’abondance, comme les disciples avec un reste de sept corbeilles de pains. Il faut le croire et le faire : c’est une question de foi.

Our Lady of Lourdes
In 1858 the Immaculate Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, near Lourdes in France, in the cavern called “de Massabielle.” Through her, Mary calls on sinners to change their lives.

Meditation
The words of Jesus: “I feel sorry for all these people”, is a reminder that God is a God of Love who wants our health and wholeness. God wants the best for us. In Jesus is revealed a loving God who has pity on us and desires us to be nourished and cared for. Jesus provides bread in abundance for the hungry crowd who seek him. He does not care where they come from. He portrays a fatherly and shepherding heart for the harassed and dejected sheep without a shepherd. In effect, God gives us more abundantly than we deserve, than we can ask for or even imagine.

SAINTE Scholastique, Vierge
Sœur de S. Benoît, Scholastique (vers 480-547) se consacra à Dieu comme son frère, en devenant moniale. Saint Grégoire le Grand a raconté le dernier entretien de ces deux contemplatifs, entretien qu’un orage, obtenu par la prière de Scholastique, força Benoît à prolonger toute la nuit. ‘’Plus grande était sa puissance, dit S. Grégoire, parce que son amour était plus grand’’.

1ère lecture : Gn 3, 1-8
Le serpent était le plus rusé de tous les animaux des champs que le Seigneur Dieu avait faits.
Il dit à la femme : « Alors, Dieu vous a vraiment dit : “Vous ne mangerez d’aucun arbre du jardin” » La femme répondit au serpent : « Nous mangeons les fruits des arbres du jardin. Mais, pour le fruit de l’arbre qui est au milieu du jardin, Dieu a dit : “Vous n’en mangerez pas, vous n’y toucherez pas, sinon vous mourrez.” » Le serpent dit à la femme : « Pas du tout! Vous ne mourrez pas ! Elle prit de son fruit, et en mangea. Elle en donna aussi à son mari, et il en mangea. Alors leurs yeux à tous deux s’ouvrirent et ils se rendirent compte qu’ils étaient nus. Ils attachèrent les unes aux autres des feuilles de figuier, et ils s’en firent des pagnes. Ils entendirent la voix du Seigneur Dieu qui se promenait dans le jardin à la brise du jour. L’homme et sa femme allèrent se cacher aux regards du Seigneur Dieu parmi les arbres du jardin.

En ce temps-là, Jésus quitta le territoire de Tyr ; passant par Sidon, il prit la direction de la mer de Galilée et alla en plein territoire de la Décapole. Des gens lui amènent un sourd qui avait aussi de la difficulté à parler, et supplient Jésus de poser la main sur lui. Jésus l’emmena à l’écart, loin de la foule, lui mit les doigts dans les oreilles, et, avec sa salive, lui toucha la langue. Puis, les yeux levés au ciel, il soupira et lui dit : « Effata ! », c’est-à-dire : « Ouvre-toi ! » Ses oreilles s’ouvrirent ; sa langue se délia, et il parlait correctement. Alors Jésus leur ordonna de n’en rien dire à personne ; mais plus il leur donnait cet ordre, plus ceux-ci le proclamaient. Extrêmement frappés, ils disaient : « Il a bien fait toutes choses : il fait entendre les sourds et parler les muets.

Méditation
Tout comme les autres déficiences avec lesquels l’homme peut naître, la surdité et le mutisme dont est frappé cet homme qu’on amène à Jésus dans l’évangile sont des désordres que le péché de l’homme a fait advenir, en corrompant la nature faite originellement bonne par Dieu. Comme on le voit avec Adam et Ève, le péché fait se dérober avec honte de Dieu, et de son semblable, tout comme il crée la disharmonie et rompt les liens entre : Dieu et l’homme ; l’homme et son semblable ; l’homme et la nature. Il naît quand on écoute les suggestions de désobéissance à l’ordre établi par Dieu que fait le Tentateur dans nos cœurs, mauvais et rusé tel un serpent. Seules, la parole de Jésus et l’action de sa grâce peuvent nous libérer du péché et de ses effets néfastes. Effata ! Ouvre-toi! Ouvrons-nous donc à sa parole et à l’action en nous de sa grâce, pour en être délivrés. C’est bien lui qui nous recréera, sous le mode de la grâce.

She was born in Nursia in about 480, the twin sister of St Benedict. She was dedicated to God from an early age and followed her brother to Cassino, where she died in about 547.

As we celebrate anew the Memorial of the Virgin St. Scholastica, we pray, O Lord, that, following her example, we may serve you with pure love and happily receive what comes from loving you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
First reading: Genesis 3: 1-8
The serpent was the most subtle of all the wild beasts that the Lord God had made. It asked the woman, “Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?” The woman answered the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “No! You will not die! God knows in fact that on the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.” The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was desirable for the knowledge that it could give. Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, “Ephphatha”, that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, and the ligament of his tongue was loosened and he spoke clearly. Meditation
Adam and Eve allowed themselves to be lured by the half-truths of Satan, to gain knowledge that exposed their nakedness and made them afraid of God. They try to hide from God, losing paradise with the certainty of dying. But Jesus brings a paradise gained. The man cured of deafness and dumbness tosses embarrassment to the wind. He goes dancing, singing, leaping, shouting and proclaiming the Good News. In Adam and Eve, we lose paradise and our will, but here comes someone who does all things right and makes us hopefully re-enter the paradise once lost. So while we are encouraged to have a sense of gratitude to God, the source of all our good, we are also reminded that the word of Jesus and the action of his grace can free us from sin and its harmful effects. Ephphata! Open up! Let us open ourselves to his word and his grace.

Lecture du livre de la Genèse Le Seigneur Dieu dit : « Il n’est pas bon que l’homme soit seul. Je vais lui faire une aide qui lui correspondra. » Avec de la terre, le Seigneur Dieu modela toutes les bêtes des champs et tous les oiseaux du ciel, et il les amena vers l’homme pour voir quels noms il leur donnerait. C’étaient des êtres vivants, et l’homme donna un nom à chacun. L’homme donna donc leurs noms à tous les animaux, aux oiseaux du ciel et à toutes les bêtes des champs. Mais il ne trouva aucune aide qui lui corresponde. Alors le Seigneur Dieu fit tomber sur lui un sommeil mystérieux, et l’homme s’endormit. L’homme dit alors: « Cette fois-ci, voilà l’os de mes os et la chair de ma chair! On l’appellera femme – Ishsha –, elle qui fut tirée de l’homme – Ish. » À cause de cela, l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, il s’attachera à sa femme, et tous deux ne feront plus qu’un. Tous les deux, l’homme et sa femme, étaient nus, et ils n’en éprouvaient aucune honte l’un devant l’autre.

Cette femme était païenne, syro-phénicienne de naissance, et elle lui demandait d’expulser le démon hors de sa fille. Il lui disait: « Laisse d’abord les enfants se rassasier, car il n’est pas bien de prendre le pain des enfants et de le jeter aux petits chiens. » Mais elle lui répliqua : « Seigneur, les petits chiens, sous la table, mangent bien les miettes des petits enfants ! » Alors il lui dit: « À cause de cette parole, va : le démon est sorti de ta fille. » Elle rentra à la maison, et elle trouva l’enfant étendue sur le lit : le démon était sorti d’elle.

De la côte de l’homme, Dieu a créé la femme bonne, de la même nature humaine que lui, afin que de son côté et à ses côtés comme alliée et vis-à-vis, elle soit sa côte ou son soutien. D’ailleurs la femme sait souvent faire montre d’une grande foi en le Seigneur, comme en fît montre cette femme païenne dont Jésus accède à la demande de délivrance pour sa fille. Sa foi, c’est-à-dire sa confiance inébranlable en la bonté du Seigneur, et plus encore sa très grande humilité, avaient fait céder le Christ. Elle se savait aussi indigne que le Seigneur lui fasse grâce. Mais elle était convaincue que toujours le Seigneur fait grâce, d’une manière ou d’une autre, comme on fait grâce aux petits chiens des miettes de pain. Puissions-nous prier et supplier le Seigneur avec les mêmes sentiments.

See the mother pleading with Jesus! Great faith of a Greek woman – a total pagan and stranger to the ways and customs of those around her. But because of her faith, Jesus paid heed to her needs. The demons depart from her daughter, and the latter is well again… Faith! Yes, faith! Convincing and unwavering, unintimidated and unashamed. She is belittled, but she knows in whom she has put her trust. Jesus praises the woman for her persistent faith and affectionate love. No one whoever sought Jesus with confidence, whether Jew or Gentile, was denied his help. Your story will not be different, so come to Him and be satisfied.

Lorsque le Seigneur Dieu fit la terre et le ciel, aucun buisson n’était encore sur la terre, aucune herbe n’avait poussé, parce que le Seigneur Dieu n’avait pas encore fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n’y avait pas d’homme pour travailler le sol. Mais une source montait de la terre et irriguait toute la surface du sol. Alors le Seigneur Dieu modela l’homme avec la poussière tirée du sol ; il insuffla dans ses narines le souffle de vie, et l’homme devint un être vivant. Le Seigneur Dieu planta un jardin en Éden, à l’orient, et y plaça l’homme qu’il avait modelé. Le Seigneur Dieu fit pousser du sol toutes sortes d’arbres à l’aspect désirable et aux fruits savoureux ; il y avait aussi l’arbre de vie au milieu du jardin, et l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal. Le Seigneur Dieu prit l’homme et le conduisit dans le jardin d’Éden pour qu’il le travaille et le garde. Tous, ils comptent sur toi pour recevoir leur nourriture au temps voulu. Tu donnes : eux, ils ramassent ; tu ouvres la main: ils sont comblés.
Tu reprends leur souffle, ils expirent et retournent à leur poussière. Tu envoies ton souffle : ils sont créés; tu renouvelles la face de la terre.

Évangile : Marc 7, 14-23
En ce temps-là, appelant de nouveau la foule, Jésus lui disait : « Écoutez-moi tous, et comprenez bien. Rien de ce qui est extérieur à l’homme et qui entre en lui ne peut le rendre impur. Mais ce qui sort de l’homme, voilà ce qui rend l’homme impur. » Quand il eut quitté la foule pour rentrer à la maison, ses disciples l’interrogeaient sur cette parabole. Alors il leur dit : « Êtes-vous donc sans intelligence, vous aussi ? Ne comprenez-vous pas que tout ce qui entre dans l’homme, en venant du dehors, ne peut pas le rendre impur, parce que cela n’entre pas dans son cœur, mais dans son ventre, pour être éliminé? » C’est ainsi que Jésus déclarait purs tous les aliments. Il leur dit encore : « Ce qui sort de l’homme, c’est cela qui le rend impur. Car c’est du dedans, du cœur de l’homme, que sortent les pensées perverses : inconduites, vols, meurtres, adultères, cupidités, méchancetés, fraude, débauche, envie, diffamation, orgueil et démesure. Tout ce mal vient du dedans, et rend l’homme impur. »

Seigneur notre Dieu, tu as voulu choisir dans ta création le pain et le vin qui refont chaque jour nos forces: Fais qu’ils deviennent aussi pour nous le sacrement de la vie éternelle. Par Jésus.

Proclamons l’amour du Seigneur, ses merveilles pour les hommes : Il a rassasié ceux qui avaient faim, et désaltéré ceux qui avaient soif.
Prière après la communion
Tu as voulu, Seigneur, que nous partagions un même pain et que nous buvions à la même coupe: Accorde-nous de vivre tellement unis dans le Christ que nous portions du fruit pour le salut du monde. Par Jésus.
Méditation
Le Seigneur Dieu nous a créés libres et nous recommande de ne faire que du bien, afin de jouir des fruits de sa Création qu’il nous appelle à travailler et à garder avec une certaine conscience écologique. Tout ce que Dieu a fait (créé) était très bon. Le mal qu’il n’a pas créé mais dont il a voulu nous mettre en garde, dans l’exercice de notre liberté, advient seulement lorsque nous décidons dans notre cœur de faire ce qui est mauvais. Ainsi ce mal qui rend l’homme impur n’est pas dans ce qui est extérieur et qui rentre en lui, mais plutôt il est à l’intérieur de lui, dans ce qui sort de son cœur. Ce cœur auquel le malin, celui-là même qui incarne le mal radical, fait de mauvaises suggestions. La lutte contre le mal et le péché est donc dans le cœur de chacun, lieu où il doit résister à ses mauvais penchants, instincts et pulsions.
